Thank you so much ... it worked. Had a horrible few hours when I got down to my last ' PIN attempt ' on my main wallet ....now set up mirror wallet. HUGE relief !! Thanks again Rex
Great video, excellent information. However, anyone with enough experience with web-services and technology should be aware that the Ledger Live interface and either of these devices are just like any other services...Very likely going to be an absolute pain in the neck in 10-15 years. My Nano S sat for 6 months. I brought it out to move some coins and server error after server error, USB cable changing, USB drive changing, firmware update and several steps to verify the firmware verification codes...I finally got in. Can you honestly imagine what it would be like to store you Nano for 10-15 years and plug in in to the server THEN?? If they even use USB connections LOL and BlueTooth in the year 2036...I don't know. I have a Nano S and Nano X and after this experience they both feel like VHS players to me. Doomed to become unusable within several years. Change my mind! Update: Now that I updated my Firmware I have to re-install my apps! LOL, there's no way these are built for the future.
I have just successful mirrored my devices thanks to you! I cannot thank you enough. I am at peace knowing my passphase actually works - I was always abit paranoid if I wrote it down correctly.
QUESTION: Once a Mirrored ledger has been created and stored away, will it sync automatically with all the changes you make on the Ledger you use everyday?
You rock man! My ledger Nano S just came in. But my ledger nano x will still be one more week as it is back-ordered. I assume it is better to put everything on the ledger x first, then the s last? Or, does it matter?
thanks for the video mate. had no idea that we would be charged fees when we transfer crypto to the cold wallet! when we confirmed to transfer our exchange message said that they would be covered, so I guess Ledger charged us!
Great video. My only question is, once I've made the backup nano, how do I keep it up to date with the primary drive as crypto is bought and sold and recorded on the primary drive? Thanks
Any new crypto‘s that you add to the primary device will automatically be on the secondary device as soon as you install the app. In other words if you decide to add stellar on your primary device and create a wallet and account, if you lose your primary and pull out the back up, all you need to do is install the stellar app on the back up and it will automatically recognize the accounts. It’s also a good idea to periodically pull out the back up device and make sure it’s up-to-date with all the firmware. You could do that maybe once or twice a year.
Hi Dad, I have a ledger S. I would like to get a ledger X so I can add more crypto. Can I just get the X and set up mirroring on that? Will my crypto from the S automatically be on the X via ledger live? Thank you
Thank you Cryptodad. I learned a lot from your videos. One question is that can i use a nano s to mirror a nano x? Just happen to have a new nano s lying around. Thanks again
Very helpful video. Quick question - When trying to make an identical backup of a Ledger Nano X, do I need to install all of the ERC20 apps onto the new backup device, or do I just need to install the Ethereum app? Thanks much!

ok thanks for the video but I'm unsure what happens when my backup is at location x and I'm using my primary, how does the secondary refresh the transaction data?
The main point of emphasis I have with negative externalities is the possibility of a ledger glitch with your device. The ideas of coffee spilling and others are possible but I think a data misconfiguration is more probable. My main question is: Say the ledger device encounters some system type glitch /error and you can’t use the physical device? Say the device doesn’t turn on or part of the screen is glitched... how can you recover your coins if that occurs? 24 word recovery phrase the solution? Buy a new device and input the 24 words from the broken/glitched ledger?
The last sentence in your comment above is correct! As long as you have your original seed phrase, you can repopulate the same wallet on a new Ledger device. Theoretically, you could repopulate the wallet on any BIP39 wallet platform, which includes more wallet manufacturers than Ledger. However, I've never actually tested this myself. That's what I've read about the BIP39 protocol, which is the cryptocurrency standard that the seed phrase system is based on.
Hi Rex, Thanks smooch for all your videos... so clearly explained and practically shown. I have a question for you.. I have done exactly what you have shown.. backed up a NanoX to a NanoS.. also verified the NanoS backup with a 'receive assets" test and successfully generated a new address. However, if I try and create a new account in LedgerLIve from the NanoS it always fails.. SO, I'm guessing that you cannot have the same account (same seed) created in LedgerLive? (just have the one account that will work on both devices)? ... this caused me to think that the backup had no worked as I couldn't load the account... but when I saw you do the "receive' test it worked. Thanks again
Thanks for the detail Crypto Dad! good info. I'm thinking as you use your primary device for purchases/sells that occasionally you some how have to sync that data to your backup. Is that documented somewhere? Is there a mirroring app where you can have both plugged in as you trade/buy/sell so that the transactions get written to both? Any thoughts on that? Just curious. Thanks again!
why not just keep the second device in the package and do all the set up stuff only after you lose the first device? whaats the advantage of setting the second one up right away?
Thank you excellent explanation. Am I correct in thinking that creating a mirror image is like getting a spare set of keys cut for your house? Your coins are stored on the block chain and your keys are stored on your nano x. So by creating a "spare" set of the keys you can always get access to you coins on the block chain, correct?. This is why your accounts stay sync'd because they are on the block chain and either one of the mirrod'd nano x's can get you access to the block chain, is my analargy correct?.thanks
Thanks Rex. I was actually reviewing your vid to transfer from the Ledger Nano S to the (what was then) the new Ledger Nano X. It seems like this is easier than the transfer vid you did before. Am I right about that or is it the same process? Many thanks in advance.
And another question can you have a backup or second computer with one ledger? So look with two ledger lives on different computers to one ledger (s) for example?
Hi. Thanks for this video. I bought the backup pack from Ledger which has a Nano X and a Nano S as a backup. Is there any advantage in having another Nano X or is the Nano S I have sufficient to act as a backup device? Thanks
Depends on how many different cryptocurrencies you are managing. If it is only a few, then the Ledger Nano S is a sufficient backup. But the Ledger Nano X has more storage. If you are managing a lot of crypto currencies, then you should probably have an X for your backup also.
I bought the backup pack. Am I right in thinking that despite the Nano S only handling 3 apps at a time, if I had say BTC, ETH, BNB & LTC on the Nano X Then I'll just need to uninstall one of the 3 apps on the Nano S and install the other. ie BTC, ETH & BNB. LTC is missing, so to manage I'd uninstall BNB and then install LTC to manage it
One more excellent, crystal-clear video, thanks. One question I have is what happens if on the original ledger we had an Ada account linked and staked in yioroi ? Would the mirroring process be transparent in the use of the two h/w wallets (i.e could we subsequently access the Yioroi wallet with either ledger in an identical way)?
How does the restore work technically? How did it know all your blockchain keys? especially if the ledger never sends your keys online? How did the new device know what all your old stuff was on your old device?
I now have a Nano S and I have just ordered a Nano S Plus. I plan to use the Nano S Plus as Primary and keep the old Nano S as Backup. If done correctly I assume all the send/receive wallet addresses will remain the same for both devices.....Is this a correct assumption?
Thank you for the good video. Can you clone a Ledger Nano X and a Trezor T model together to sync your balances ? Allowing my family member to use the Trezor T model while I use Ledger Nano X.
When you first get the ledger, i saw another video saying battery 🔋 is flat, so he plugged 🔌 into computer 🖥, i noticed when you first do seed phrase etc, yours is not plugged in, so question is do we charge ledger first then unplug it to do seed and pin. 👍
Thank you! So how do you add the 'Secondary' accounts that you have for some of those cryptos? Do you just click on the 'ETH Secondary' account for example and confirm that address as you did with the Primary ETH account?
Super video. Will the backup device keep abreast of any additions/withdrawals from the main device or does one have to plug in the backup device every time a change is made to the main device.
Great video, Question, if i setup the Second ledger and have both Ledgers the same, then lock it away for years, however Ledger one i update by adding more of the same coins, will it show in the second ledger ?
@@rainerrain9689 is Trezor applicable when restoring a back up ledger nano? Or is the safer bet just buying another nano? My thought process is buying a duplicate nano. Seems more simple that, but the fact you pointed out you can have another device meaning entire different company to back up a previous nano is interesting. Cross compatibility is ergonomic.
@@austinschweppe2121 Even tho you can back up with another brand regardless if its a nano or not, me myself use duplicates of same company and same size.
Hi Rex! Thanks for your videos! Can I do this with a ledger nano x against my old ledge blue ? And will it show my old history balances and transactions ?
Hi Rex, excellent videos, I have made a backup of my X with an S model, but I have one question, my BTC address has changed, is that ok?, it shows my balance, but the account is not the same then before, thanks.
Hi CryptoDad, I seriously need some help! Today I restored a ledger with my trezor keyphrase - and all seems well. Balance is showing in the ledger live and everything. However when I go to make any transactions and to sign any contracts I'm getting a "connect trezor to continue" prompt, even though my ledger is plugged in with the ethereum app open. Any suggestions?
Assuming i have never made a restore. What are the chances i wrote the seed phrase down wrong? You have to confirm on your ledger the word after writing it down so i assume the chances are small? Thanks again great videos
Crypto Dad, Thank you for this video, its amazing. One question... So if I use the primary device and move additional crypto to it, how does the secondary device pick up that transaction? Is it picked up once you connect the second device and the ledger live syncs?
Crypto does not move to and from the devices. The crypto is on the blockchain. You just have two separate hardware devices that can access the same wallets on the blockchain. It’s like having a spare key to the same automobile
Thanks for the information very helpfull, what if i decide to upgrade My ledger nano S for a new ledger nano x or plus? I just enter the recovery pharse on the new device and ready? Thanks in advance
Thank you for your videos I've got two packs of ledger ,Nano X as a primary and Nano S as a backup so I went through the steps but Nano S does not has enough space to copy all currencies from the Nano X so what is the solution? Appreciate you
Once the backup is configured, the backup device will be updated automatically, if I do a new transaction with Ledger X? Or do I have to repeat the receiving operation on Ledger S (backup) every time after a new transaction done with the original Ledger X device?
I made a copy of my first Nano S and duplicated it to my second backup and it worked fine. When I decided to try my second Nano S it would not take my pin. I made three attempts without any luck. I made another attempt and instead of selecting restore I mistaking selected new. As you know, the second Nano wanted a new pin and new recovery words. Is there any way to reset the second nano or salvage the device? I enjoy your videos. Paul
Rex - thanks for another awesome video. My primary is an X and my backup will be an S (which is new in box). The Ledger video on this topic says to connect (initially) the S to the computer before the "restore" process begins. Then go through entering the 24 words, etc. I am still puzzled over how the backup S ever gets synced, or mirrored, with the primary X. Can you explain or should I just take a leap of faith and not try to understand how simply entering 24 words will created a mirrored backup? Any clarification appreciated.
this is a very good question i'd like to know also. I originally ordered 2 S models, and have recently received an X. the S ran out of memory, and i purchased 2 to use the 2nd as a backup - now with the nano x and it's extremely larger storage capacity, and the addition of the app, a strategy would be helpful, along with the best way to do it.
So if I have a company account and a personal account at my exchange when I buy BTC, can I transfer both contents to the same cold storage (say, Ledger Nano X) device... obviously I would add two separate BTC wallets on the Nano to keep them separate. Right? And what if my wife has her own account too. Can we transfer hers onto my Nano too? Thanks.

I am sure he knew better, he even mentioned in the video not to show the words to anyone.
Every time he "shows" the 24 word recovery phrase in his videos, it is just a dummy phrase. He confirmed that in another video :)

@@CryptoDad Understood, thank you kindly for responding.
Can you 'restore' from a Nano S to a Nano X? Do you need to use the same pin from the original on the restore device?
When you choose the PIN code (min 3:43) , is it the same as the old PIN code, or a new one?
He explains later in the vid, can be the same, does not have to be.
Can you have an backup with a ledger X on S or an S on X? Or should it be the same type of ledger?
Thanks for the information very helpfull, what if i decide to upgrade My ledger nano S for a new ledger nano x or plus? I just enter the recovery pharse on the new device and ready? Thanks in advance
Yes, the 24 word back up phrase will work with any of the ledger devices
Thank you for your videos
I've got two packs of ledger ,Nano X as a primary and Nano S as a backup so I went through the steps but Nano S does not has enough space to copy all currencies from the Nano X so what is the solution?
Appreciate you
you can only buy another nano X, if you want all wallets on the backup device.
Once the backup is configured, the backup device will be updated automatically, if I do a new transaction with Ledger X?
Or do I have to repeat the receiving operation on Ledger S (backup) every time after a new transaction done with the original Ledger X device?
Hi friend...good, informative video. Glad this one is in your video library. Trust all is well :)

Can I have Mirror Backup on different devices. For example - First device Ledger and second one Trezor?
Thanks.
