Just a quick correction - it looks like in the newest Mario Kart games that the Bob-Omb actually doesn't seem to hurt you if another player detonates it from behind. Good to know!
TheJWittz if you keep the blue shell in your inventory and don't use it the player in first will back out behind second to avoid it, then the player in second will realize what's going on and back out too, soon the rest of the players will catch up and all be clumped together. they shouldbe made a hot potato game mode with the thundercloud like theres 3 thunder clouds in one game and you have to run away from the cloud holders it's like shine their but the opposite
The real benefit of the POW block was making everyone drop their items ahead of you. If you were able to chain it into a Mega Mushroom or maybe triple shrooms this gives you a huge advantage.
Also the fact that if you use it while someone is taking a tricky turn they'll usually crash and lose valuable time, heck even if you time it just about right you can lead an opponent to a cliff and boom free place.
@@ariscorpiondarling4928 Good point. But then again, the NPCs (in Splatoon) don't die when you cover them in your ink, so I dunno. Guess we aren't supposed to think about it too much
Cruz yeah it's annoying . I hate it especially when I get a super horn, have it immediately stolen by boo,and then get hit by a blue shell. happens to me way to many times.
The Boo item turns you invisible, intangible, and gives you a slight speed boost (so you're unhindered by offroad). While you're invisible, the Boo seeks out a racer who haves an item, steals their item and give it to you. Shortly after receiving your item, you will go back to normal. If no one has an item when you use Boo, he will return empty handed. This item was also in Mario Kart DS (and I think another one but not entirely sure).
Actually, I consider the fake item box one of the best items in the games. Why? Just hide it directly in front of a regular box, and it's a banana that makes whoever lose the item they just got.
Or, put an item box diagonal to a banana when you pass it so the next person tries to avoid one and falls into the other. Item clusters can be deadly late in a race.
Brandon Schemers yeah, although I didn't get the thundercloud all too much, when I did get it, I sure did have a fun time panicking about who to pass it to
Lightning bolt was brutal on the N64. Everybody first got hit (no avoiding possible unless under the effect of a star), lost their item, shrunk down and slowed down, and on top of that, if the player who launched the lighting bolt drove over a shrunken down player it would be squeezed and float in the air for aboit 3 times the length of a banastrike. N64 Mario kart eas definitely the most brutal mario kart ever. I still play it. You could launch other players off the map into glitching by simply hitting them with a green or red shell. I wish they made the gameplay so brutal and vicious again. Please make skme kind of nostalgic review aboit this Jwitzz
It was most brutal in Super Mario Kart. Lasted longer than all of the other games, spun you out, made you lose everything, could drive over others, shrink time is equal for everyone, but was by far the hardest item to get in that game. When you got one, the feeling was incredible
One thing to note about the Blooper: the AI racers aren't affected much by it. They just start to zig zag along the track... but oddly enough, they can still drive through sharp turns and narrow passways.
i think the bomb is amazing. i love sniping with it, and the fact that it walks makes it even better. correct me if im mistaken, but in mario kart 8 it can block shells as well.
The POW block is a great item because you can target people on sharp corners if you actually know what you're doing and it also causes everyone to lose their item. The thundercloud doesn't just boost your speed, it also gives instant acceleration if you get hit. True, it sucks to be shrunk, but it's also strategic because it's not always the best strategy to always go for a box no matter what.
Fake item boxes should be the same aesthetically to regular ones except to the user. The user should also just go through it if they hit it which could tip off observant opponents
When I was little, I would play against my babysitter, and I drove over the tiny bridge at the end of one of the DK stages and dropped the fake item box on it. They had no choice but to hit it.
there's a chance that jwittz turned off ads for the video, or nintendo disabled monetization. the latter isn't likely, since they'd usually take monetization for themselves or take down the whole video.
I notice when talking about the Blooper's assorted downsides, you left out the fact that the AI just outright no-sells it just like any other vision-obscuring item in any Nintendo game.
i think hot potato could be a good idea for battle mode, so heres what happens, there 10 players, you spin a wheel to see who gets the thunder cloud 1st, and then all the players ride around passing the thunder cloud to eachother, the thundercloud takes a whole minute until it stikes, who ever it stikes is out, then the wheel spins again to see who is it for round 2, now with 9 players because 1 was elliminated, all the way down to 2 players, last player standing, wins
I'd argue that MK8's version of the triple banana is actually worse than the single banana. At least the single one can reliable protect you, whereas I swear that the triple banana has let in more shots than it's protected me from. But oh it's TOTALLY worth it to lay three easily avoidable mild inconveniences.
I KNOW RIGHT? One time I was playing Mario Kart 8 and a red shell was coming. I thought I wouldn't get hit because I had the triple banana. However, the triple banana let me get hit and I lost the race.
The blue shell is actually useful in a race with teams, as it can be used to blast the first player when they are on the other team, so a teammate can come first and win the team more points.
Blooper in MK7 and 8 got buffed pretty good from DS and Wii to cover the screen better, not to mention the lowered traction in 8 makes it a little more annoying.
The Blue Spiny Shell isn't that bad, but its usefulness depends on the game. Say you're in last place and you get the Blue Spiny Shell for example. You'll want to play a Mario Kart where it stays low to the ground so it can hit other players.
I noticed the fake block wasn't in Mario Kart 8, more of a relief than anything. The Blooper would be better (Or.. Worse, I guess?) if the ink covered the screen in a way that makes racers have tunnel vision, making them not be able to see what's coming from other angles.
The Bob-Omb in MK8 is the best item to pull in 1st. It's godly for frontrunning because you can often take out the only two people close enough to have a chance of catching you with just one item, and as long as you time it you can block red shells with it as well.
i say the Fake item box is at least a good item... in Mario Kart DS as it looks like an item box with no question mark in it, placing it among groups of item boxes can be used as a sneaky trap (if a player isn't looking at their bottom screen of course)
What I did in Mario Kart DS, I put the fake item box right into the real one as a sneaky little trap if the other players aren't paying attention to where the fake one is at.
For me its bad and good. Good when you playing against computers. Bad if you playing against actual human beings (unless they don't pay attention) With computers they can be easily fooled since computers are naturally dumb and all. When playing with others they will notice more likely and it's just a waste of a item
In my opinion, this is what i would do if i was a developer on these games and how i could change the behaviour of the items: - Banana peel and blue shell: Just. Don't. Change. Them. I mean, they are already good and useful in the ways they are. You just get a banana peel if you are in the first places, while you get the blue shell in the last places. - Coin: When you obtain them from the item boxes, you will obtain 10 coins at the same time, and also make these not appear anymore if you have the Max number of coins :) - Thunder cloud: Better leave that object for oblivion, it's really bad. - Bob-Omb: Make appear a certain aim where you will throw your Bob-Omb. - POW block: have a more longer time for the stunning effect to go away. - Blooper: Make the ink almost completely cover the entire screen. - Super leaf: Make the tail be more larger in space. - False item block: Make the false item block be identical to the real block, just without the question sign. - Yoshi/Birdo egg: i think this item also needs to be better left behind :/
I find it funny how new Mario Kart players tell people on UA-cam comments of how they dodge a blue shell or were to place fake item boxes. when almost every single Mario Kart player knows the tricks to doing these
i tend to agree with the bob-omb being not often useful, but there was one time in Mario Kart Wii a friend and I were both behind 2 bot players, and she took one out and by some miracle, I chucked a bob-omb in front of me and perfectly nailed the other person in front of me, letting us both get 1st and 2nd place instead of 3rd and 4th. it was glorious and infuriating that we didn't record it
some of those items like the blue shell are needed to balance out the game. I think about half of the items in this list are legit horrible, but half of them are more for balancing purposes
The Blooper- or squidgie as I like to call them- are a lot more effective in 8 Deluxe due to the ink taking up more of the screen (sometimes you get lucky and get a small ink splat on you), and apparently it gives you more slippery driving physics.
I like the idea of the thunder cloud but it was implemented wrong. They should’ve given someone who was in 1st place and way ahead something negative like the thundercloud.
it doesn't if you pass it. That's what you have to do, use the speed boost and off-road immunity to catch another person. You have decent time and you get it when you're in the middle, usually where most people are. I think was a great item.
Bob Content ID from Haedox AKA Hatedox because he's a hypocrite. Because he says that Nintendo is the worst company in the industry yet he still buys their products & doesn't boycott them.
Rickitly Ricked Yeah. While I hate him it's not like I think all his videos are garbage. I like his Procube controller review and his review of Legend of Zelda Breath of the wild isn't bad. My MOST hated UA-camr is Dalas Review. The guy responsible for Fur Fun.
One thing the POW can still do for you is get rid of players items. I mean, sure, that just makes it a worse lighting, but being able to make everyone lose their precious banana shield and reserve banana can be pretty handy in the right situation
I kinda like it as well. I typically would hold on to it until I get to a stationary item box, then place it right there so that people get hit by it trying to collect an item. Bonus points if it happens to be something useless.
The Fake Item Box is not crap, a Fake Item Box is an item found in the Mario Kart series. They resemble regular Item Boxes, but they do not bestow items to karts that pass through them- instead, the kart will crash. Fake Item Boxes are generally obtained by racers near the front of the race, being used as traps similarly to Bananas; however, after Mario Kart 64, Fake Item Boxes cannot block incoming shells. Find out where I stole this from.
Blooper not only hinders your view but also destroys your handling. Turns are much harder to take and not many people know that which is surprising. It's still not a great item but it hurts you more than you think.
I only remember the thundercloud from the DS game, but there it had a completely different effect. It would shrink EVERYONE but you. Those in the back of the race would have the lowest time while those in front, of course, the highest. I LOVED to hold on to the thundercloud, race to the top 5 players, use it, and blast to victory :p (PS: Or is the item I'm thinking of 'just' the thunderbolt? Thunder.. thundercloud.. It's ben too long since I've played Mario Kart ^w^ )
tbh I just put it behind me and keep going. I don't use it even when I'm in first to protect me from shells because I'll more likely end up exploding along with it. I see the purpose of it to get people off your back or try to have good aimed but I could live without it
but... I like the cloud, its really funny when everyone is bumping with each others to see who is gonna get the thunder, especially in short tracks such as baby park.
Instead of removing some of these items, Im curious how you would improve them like increasing the boost to top speed coins give you, or having the coin give more coins?
My ideas: Spiny Shell, has an added vacuum effect where it pulls racers closer to it as it zooms, the closer, the harder it pulls Thundercloud, exclusive for Battle Mode or a Battle Mode themed around it like Hot Potato. Fake Item Box, it will look exactly the same as an Item Box, no inversion of question mark, but it only reveals itself as you get really close to it by turning red. Super Leaf, instead of manual activation, its automatic when used, blocks incoming items and hurts racers that get near it, has a duration.
@@Magicwaterz That's what the Super Leaf does. How about when you activate it, it disappears from your item slot so you can get something actually good
@@Forzamon42069 By automatic, it instantly blocks said obstacles without you having to manually press a button to use it. Also, time has passed since I posted that so take a page from the Piranha Plant where you can force it to shorten its duration by spamming the button. So, you have a choice to keep the effect as long as you can to prevent yourself from getting harmed but not get another item, or reduce its duration with a risk of getting hit too soon.
The one time blooper is good is in mario kart 7 and only on airship fortress, AND only in the bullet obstacle area, as the bottom screen doesn’t show the bullet bills
But to be honest, even though the Coin is literally a worthless item that only contributes to a small speedboost, it's still arguably better than the blooper and thundercloud
The blue shell is to make sure nobody get's too far ahead. The reason they only give it to those at the back is because they don't the person launching it to take advantage of it.
Hollow Tim I realised that, but there wasn't a way I could have said it without waiting 29 minutes, and by that time it would be irrelevant. It's the small things in life that bring the most stress.
Yeahhhhhh... well in Africa, whats most annoying is trying to find food and water so your family doesn't starve or dehydrate to death each day then having to deal with poachers trying to steal your food so they can go back in their luxury homes and hang up that animal that we could eat as a trophy, but nah, you got the real problems. Poor you gotta live through the horror that is the ''first!'' comments on UA-cam! May you find jesus and let him guide you through it. *Kappa*
Nintendo REALLY needs to let us choose what kinds of items spawn while in public lobbies, I'm sick of boos and lightning bolts ruining an otherwise fun game.
i have an idea for the coins in mario kart games, so the coins could be a currency, and you could use them to buy items which you would have a limit of 3 items bought in the store per day, and maybe to buy karts, kart parts, and characters, and you could press x any time and it would pick a random one of the items you bought.
Honestly, the complaint that the blue shell is not dodgeable in most mario kart games isn't true, in fact, quite the opposite is true. From what I know, in mario kart ds, double dash, wii, 7, 8, and 8 deluxe the blue shell can be dodged with a very well timed mushroom boost. It's difficult, but possible and reproducible.
I've only played Double Dash and I was so confused when you said what the number one item was. Guess they nerfed it... It used to be the most powerful and annoying item in the game so I guess it makes sense...
Thunder Cloud and Lightning Bolt are two different items! The bolt hits every other player, the cloud gives you a massive speed boost but if you don't ram into another player before it ends YOU get shrunk. Thunder Cloud wasn't in Double Dash :)
The blooper really needs a buff, I feel it's a good idea as it hits everyone but barely effects the back of the pack, but if you're in first you should have like 80% of your screen covered not the 20% it does now.
That's quite a list. And I totally agree with your #1. That item should never have been invented in the first place, and playing MKW, I always hated that item to death, and if in 1st place, I would just try to back up and just expect to bump into some opponents so they can have it instead. And yes, the Super Leaf is a bad item, and almost useless in racing when you want to target your opponents. However, even older Mario Kart games had items that were bad or useless. The (Cape) Feather from Super Mario Kart, you just go whirl in the air for about half a second and serves no purpose other than taking shortcuts or to that narrow path back to the starting line in Boo Valley 1.
They should have made the fake boxes look like the normal ones but kept the upside down question mark on it so it could actually trick people into thinking it was real. I have never seen anyone actually fall for it unless they bump into one or it being thrown by the person in front of them.
Actually, the Bob-Omb can block shells, you just have to drop it at the right time or else you’ll get caught in the explosion or it will miss and you will get hit by the shell
Just a quick correction - it looks like in the newest Mario Kart games that the Bob-Omb actually doesn't seem to hurt you if another player detonates it from behind. Good to know!

Correction: Blooper actually sucks alot more because after Mario Kart 8, it gives you more slippery physics.

Place them almost at the exact same spots as Item Boxes

Personally I dont think the idea of a coin being an item is bad. It was the execution that was bad. The problem is that it was just WAY too common.
If I were a dev, I'd make the coin item give you three coins at once.
That and it's just ONE coin! If it was like 5 coins and your about to pass the finish line with only like 3 coins, then that's something at least.
Like...remove it as a possibility if you're already maxed out on coins, like how you're never gonna get a Golden Mushroom in first place.
I think the coin item would be cooler if it could break the coin limit
Cars2RCool- I think it is 2 coins.

I noticed the fake block wasn't in Mario Kart 8, more of a relief than anything. The Blooper would be better (Or.. Worse, I guess?) if the ink covered the screen in a way that makes racers have tunnel vision, making them not be able to see what's coming from other angles.
The worst stuff when you are first in Mario Kart
1. You get all the bad stuff
2. If you miss a turn say goodbye to first place
3. BLUE SHELLS
Well u learn something new everyday. I did not realize the fake item block was gone. The coin gives me more frustration then the blooper.
Jesse Repas I agree
What I did in Mario Kart DS, I put the fake item box right into the real one as a sneaky little trap if the other players aren't paying attention to where the fake one is at.
Jesse Repas they should be exact replicas
For me its bad and good. Good when you playing against computers. Bad if you playing against actual human beings (unless they don't pay attention) With computers they can be easily fooled since computers are naturally dumb and all. When playing with others they will notice more likely and it's just a waste of a item
Let's face it, when it comes to real players, it only tricks your mom
In my opinion, this is what i would do if i was a developer on these games and how i could change the behaviour of the items:
- Banana peel and blue shell: Just. Don't. Change. Them. I mean, they are already good and useful in the ways they are. You just get a banana peel if you are in the first places, while you get the blue shell in the last places.
- Coin: When you obtain them from the item boxes, you will obtain 10 coins at the same time, and also make these not appear anymore if you have the Max number of coins :)
- Thunder cloud: Better leave that object for oblivion, it's really bad.
Fittingly, I had a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ad before this video.
TheJKMC Me too!
And just played it too!
TheJKMC lol me to
Huh. I had a Mario Kart VII and a Super Mario Bros 2 commercial.
the thundercloud, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"
I find it funny how new Mario Kart players tell people on UA-cam comments of how they dodge a blue shell or were to place fake item boxes. when almost every single Mario Kart player knows the tricks to doing these
I "dodge" a blue shell by letting second place overtake me. Lmao.
I "Dodge" a blue shell by using a mushroom or i Drop out
MiniMario507
using a mushroom actually is dodging it
I learned how to dodge a blue shell playing Mario Kart DS when I was 6 by dropping out and letting second place overtake me.
ObjectManiacLewis 27 Same
Also worth noting the Blooper in MK8 reduces your kart's grip, making it more slippery and hard to control. This makes it considerably better IMO.
Cape Feather. It *can* be very useful, but 9 of 10 times, the track isn't built for it.
i tend to agree with the bob-omb being not often useful, but there was one time in Mario Kart Wii a friend and I were both behind 2 bot players, and she took one out and by some miracle, I chucked a bob-omb in front of me and perfectly nailed the other person in front of me, letting us both get 1st and 2nd place instead of 3rd and 4th. it was glorious and infuriating that we didn't record it
some of those items like the blue shell are needed to balance out the game.
At least #1 was only in 1 game.
TheOfficial AC98 true
I like the idea of the thunder cloud but it was implemented wrong. They should’ve given someone who was in 1st place and way ahead something negative like the thundercloud.
The thundercloud would be great if you could manually activate it
consider the coin and the blooper the Worst!
it doesn't if you pass it. That's what you have to do, use the speed boost and off-road immunity to catch another person. You have decent time and you get it when you're in the middle, usually where most people are. I think was a great item.
sinancothebest I agree I thought it was a fun item
The coin is actually good. Read the description of it
in Mario Kart 7 The Bob-omb does protect you if you hold it behind you. If a red shell hits it, the bob-omb will explode just behind your kart.
*O H H H H H H H H H B A N A N A*
Bob Content ID from Haedox AKA Hatedox because he's a hypocrite. Because he says that Nintendo is the worst company in the industry yet he still buys their products & doesn't boycott them.
Timothy Shoemaker You can hate a company and still buy and love their products.
Rickitly Ricked I know. but calling said company the worst in its industry to me seems forced.
Timothy Shoemaker Eh, he was probably asking for views.
It's sad to see the Fake Item Box on this list.
How?
It's one of my favourite items.
I kinda like it as well. I typically would hold on to it until I get to a stationary item box, then place it right there so that people get hit by it trying to collect an item. Bonus points if it happens to be something useless.
Why, it's crap
I hope the Thundercloud is high on this list.
A. A. Ran Your wish was granted. THAT item was annoying when playing with my friends. I hope it doesn't appear in Mario Kart 9
Adrian Leonce man I hate that thundercloud, when it floats over me it haunts me with its stare 😠
Adrian Leonce it should never appear again..
I only remember the thundercloud from the DS game, but there it had a completely different effect. It would shrink EVERYONE but you. Those in the back of the race would have the lowest time while those in front, of course, the highest. I LOVED to hold on to the thundercloud, race to the top 5 players, use it, and blast to victory :p
(PS: Or is the item I'm thinking of 'just' the thunderbolt? Thunder.. thundercloud.. It's ben too long since I've played Mario Kart ^w^ )
The bomb actually can stop a shell if you drop it behind you. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at least.
I don't even have to drop the bomb for it to work, but if I'm drifting, I usually get caught in the explosion.
yeah, if you are going fast enough, you will be able to dodge the bombs explosion without dropping it. I done it a few times.
tbh I just put it behind me and keep going.

They help him get money (or something, I don't understand this business). What I don't get is the folks that dislike the video before finishing it...
Instead of removing some of these items, Im curious how you would improve them
like increasing the boost to top speed coins give you, or having the coin give more coins?
My ideas:
Spiny Shell, has an added vacuum effect where it pulls racers closer to it as it zooms, the closer, the harder it pulls
Thundercloud, exclusive for Battle Mode or a Battle Mode themed around it like Hot Potato.
Worst Mario kart item is easily the Lightning cloud in wii
The Pow Block is still useful for the fact that it throws away people's items, even if they do the semi-dodge.
Hey Josh, I love both your videos and streams as well as Renae's streams I hope you both continue doing this for a long time
Thanks for the support! We both appreciate it :)
The one time blooper is good is in mario kart 7 and only on airship fortress, AND only in the bullet obstacle area, as the bottom screen doesn’t show the bullet bills
the blue shell is amazing when you're playing with siblings!!!
are you mad at your siblings? o.o;;
Honestly, I liked the thunder cloud. It added a moment of tense back and forth.
Calling Coin as number 1
But to be honest, even though the Coin is literally a worthless item that only contributes to a small speedboost, it's still arguably better than the blooper and thundercloud
I gotta disagree. At least thundercloud and Blooper do something. Coin is just something that disappears when you press the item button.
A coin can give you a couple extra coins if you aren't maxed, which is helpful if you need to unlock something.
The blue shell is to make sure nobody get's too far ahead. The reason they only give it to those at the back is because they don't the person launching it to take advantage of it.
My guesses in no particular order
Blooper
Coin
Pow Block
Thunder Cloud
Super Leaf
Bob Omb
Fake Item Box
Yep
I like the Pow block. It's just a really mild shock, and if people dodge it, they lose their item.
There's a reason i don't like being early, and that's because all the comments are about being first/early. It's annoying.
*Kappa*
Then throw a blue shell at them.
Marty Tardigrade Yeah, because that'll totally make a difference.
Marty Tardigrade what if they have a super horn?
dude, the banana is PERFECT for drags, and you can keep people from slipstreaming off of you because they'll just hit it.
1:56 Bombs do Block Red and Green shells from behind you.
I'm pretty sure it explodes though
Aw Hek it's a Snek it exploxes but if you drop it when the red shell has lined up right behind you then it blows up behind you
It explodes on impact
Nintendo REALLY needs to let us choose what kinds of items spawn while in public lobbies, I'm sick of boos and lightning bolts ruining an otherwise fun game.
i have an idea for the coins in mario kart games, so the coins could be a currency, and you could use them to buy items which you would have a limit of 3 items bought in the store per day, and maybe to buy karts, kart parts, and characters, and you could press x any time and it would pick a random one of the items you bought.
redfox productions Then micro-transactions appear to buy coins and game over
Sedew nintEAndo
Another thing about the Leaf is that you'll get it in first place most of the time.
Banana is a great defense, bombs are great snipers, you pack blues at 6 to 4, and coins at the start are great for breaking out of the pack.
They buffed the blooper
Castle Clasher sorry, but im going to make a pun :)
*BRUTALITY*
Okay, im leaving now
The blooper really needs a buff, I feel it's a good idea as it hits everyone but barely effects the back of the pack, but if you're in first you should have like 80% of your screen covered not the 20% it does now.
Do top ten best and worst pokemon abilities!
Hide the fake item box or bananna right behind a real item box then cpus always run into it and players do too you also get the item from the box.
lol one time i was in first and i made the blue shell go into the second place person by braking quick enough XD
Lake Jones that's a strategy in Mario kart 7, watch for items and when you someone has a blue shell, stop and wait for someone to pass you
John Smith it was a strat since really early
If you use the Yoshi/Birdo egg when you are very close to the one at your front can be very useful
jwittz making a video for some grocery money
I like the coin item.... When I don't already have 10, which is pretty much never. Personally my least favorite followed by the Super Leaf.
They should have made the fake boxes look like the normal ones but kept the upside down question mark on it so it could actually trick people into thinking it was real. I have never seen anyone actually fall for it unless they bump into one or it being thrown by the person in front of them.
The coins speed you up btw
Do they really?
@@Now_Its_Orange yeah they do
I hate the blue shell more because even if I'm miles away from everyone, I get blown up and everyone picks up speed
'Tons of Nintendo consoles like the wii u and the ds have a secondary map screen'
Tons of them? The wii u and ds are the only ones😂
^^
Actually, the Bob-Omb can block shells, you just have to drop it at the right time or else you’ll get caught in the explosion or it will miss and you will get hit by the shell
I don't agree with the yoshi egg
!?
I don't agree with the bob om
