Nari Electric, In last, sure, but if you're 5th or up, I prefer mushrooms (3 or golden of course). You can time them perfectly and know when they stop, you can take shortcuts while the bullet can't, and you can drift while using a mushroom.
Yeah but you never know when the Lightning will strike you down and Bullet Bill protects you against that and the other items. Also Bullet Bill can hit your opponents too.

The mere mention of Bowser Shell and Chain Chomp gave the video an instant like from me. Love those items so much in Double Dash!! The latter being the Bullet Bill Prototype at least is satisfying enough to hear it on #1. Not as overpowered, but it just can't beat its catchy theme song.
My favorites are probably the mushroom and the red shell, the red shell helps me get a bit ahead (although it can be countered so it isn't overpowered.) And the mushroom because of all the cool skips you can do. (I don't count the golden mushroom).

My biggest complaint about the Bullet Bill is that sometimes, especially in online racing in MK8 is that aside from that annoying surprising Bullet Bill hit, when you get one for yourself, there's a chance of you using it to past others but too quickly to the point that it doesn't even last for about 3 or 4 seconds before you go back to normal with little time for sharp recovery. This can at times lead to unintended consequences such as hitting walls too hard losing almost all of your speed, or falling off the track for certain tracks like Rainbow Road, and having other racers retaliate with whatever they still got left on them, making your efforts futile. Believe me, this has happened me more than handful of occasions.
I always really liked the boo from Mario kart ds. It may not give a speed boost, but it still gives that all powerful invincibility. It also incentivizes you to check your opponents items to see what you can steal. It's just cool.
I'm honestly surprised the Super Horn isn't on here. It not only spins out racers nearby, but can also defend against nearly any item thrown your way, even blue shells! Sure, it's somewhat rare and it can only be used once, but it's still the best defensive item if you ask me.
When my mom gets the crazy 8 weapon, she says "Release the Kraken!" One time she made a mistake and said "Unloose the Kraken!" Took a good five minutes for us to recover after that laugh. :D

It's ironic that you can at least stop the DRIVER of a Mad Chomp with one of the crappiest items in the game: Fake Items. Yo fam if you've beaten the game best combo is either peach (her heart special is fantastic if you're in the top half and want the protection and free good items) or toad (king shroom is broken and actually can be gotten in first) and your other character should be boo/piranha (get specials all the time even if you're in first place). Best kart is either gold kart (by far best kart in the game) or do toad/peach with the birdo kart (fantastic weight coupled with solid balanced speed and accel)
3:12 VERY small nitpick the mega mushroom isn't invincible because the star can hit it. So if you ain't invincible or you have a mega mushroom or you have a boo or you are in a cannon you unless you the game you are playing is mario kart 7 or 8 you are going down.
Haha probably because I was chasing Bowser to get footage of the star hitting someone. You'd be surprised how long it takes to get some of these items to spawn for video footage! I spent a lot of sad races intentionally driving at the back waiting for some of the rarer drops.

Having played a lot of MK8D I think the best/cruelest item is now the lightning bolt, it makes you slow, tiny, and strips you of your items, as well as 3 coins, and somehow the AI in Grand Prix mode manages to use it exclusively when I'm flying over a pit, or whenever there's a Blue Shell coming and I finally have a horn to block it... Also I have had it used as many as 3 times in one race.
The blue shell can only be obtained towards the back of the race, while it only affects the front of the race. Using one usually won't help the person who used it, because they're nowhere near where the carnage, and likely won't even be able to see the damage they caused. If you somehow manage to bring the Blue Shell to the front of the race before using it, there's a good chance you'll get caught in the blast radius.
The giant Bowser shell and the giant banana peel need to come back. They're part of what made Double Dash so hilarious, and baby park is not the same without a bowser shell bouncing all over drivers.

Plus they cant protect you from lightning, you lose them when you get struck by lightning and most of the time the items you pick up while having them are normally just bananas and shells. Boo however at times can give you something really good like triple red shells or triple mushrooms plus you are invisible meaning lightning wont affect you at all giving you an opportunity to pass your opponents. Boo is pretty underrated

I think the Piranha Plant should be higher. The range on the plant is huge, so the chances of you successfully passing someone using it, and not getting knocked out by it, are very low. It's a great pressure tool, and the boost it provides is periodic, meaning you're not likely to drive off-course or off a cliff.
I don't know if it was a glitch or extreme luck or something, but one day, I got a bullet bill in THIRD PLACE. Which means that I ended with an extreme advantage at first place that no red, blue or random green shell could make me even aproach the 2nd place guy, i was unstopable. That race will always be stuck in my mind as the luckiest race of all times

IN regards to the most useful items, you're right. But the most fun item ever was the spiky giant green shell from Double Dash. Nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING comes close to the feeling of throwing one of those babies. Combine that with the high chance to get one and you're golden

Auto-drives you on the course... check! 7. Allows you to pass more racers than any other item... check! 8. That "Oh F*** Ya!" moment when you look awesome and sound like death to anyone ahead... CHECK! Yep, pretty much the most OP item ever in any game.
Green Shell is really underrated. Sure, it's top 10 in this list, but I mean in general. Nobody expects to get hit by this thing because you have to actually aim. And the game won't warn you if some player with good aim shot one directly at you, unlike the red shell. Oh and if you miss, you still have a chance to hit them on the sides, which is usually unprotected.
Crazy 8 literally activates whatever is directly in front of you when you press it. Just wait till the star comes around, hit that, THEN mash. It's not hard.
The bullet bill is powerful and makes you invincible, but it will never compete with the exhilarating chaos of being dragged behind a rampaging chain chomp!

Yep, pretty much the most OP item ever in any game.
I once had a Bullet Bill fail to make the turn on Rainbow Road and actually make me LOSE places. It was really quite annoying.
Green Shell is really underrated.
Sure, it's top 10 in this list, but I mean in general.
Nobody expects to get hit by this thing because you have to actually aim. And the game won't warn you if some player with good aim shot one directly at you, unlike the red shell.
Oh and if you miss, you still have a chance to hit them on the sides, which is usually unprotected.

My personal favorite item in MK is the Pirhana Plant. So fun.
Crazy 8 literally activates whatever is directly in front of you when you press it. Just wait till the star comes around, hit that, THEN mash. It's not hard.

#1 is not as good IMO, as it sometimes/often stops in places you don't want it to stop, like bends.
Crazy 8-hint: Use star first, THAN mash L. Or you might get hit by the bob-omb before using everything.
The bullet bill is powerful and makes you invincible, but it will never compete with the exhilarating chaos of being dragged behind a rampaging chain chomp!

I love the Peach and Daisy heart from double dash. That was the best defense ever not only that you could still use offensive items while being protected!
