My father is buried at Arlington. He served during WWII, Korea, and did one tour during Vietnam before he retired. It gives me comfort to know his grave will always be tended.

My father served all three wars as well. He was a West Pointer and retired as a colonel. We buried him in Arlington as well. I led the line of cars following the flag0draped casket in the horse-drawn carriage. I have it all on film. My mom, little sister, aunt and uncle (former West Pointer as well) are all bored there also.
God bless every single soldier who sacrificed their lives for freedom. Thank you for your service and R.I.P.

Hello again Scottish Guy. Please, I hope you will read my message to you and others. Don't be ashamed of the tears you shed while listening to this Hymn. I've heard it dozens of times and my eyes get misty every time. I actually counted the stones as indicated and the total is 119,244 not counting Arlington Cemetary. You may notice that with the exception of North Africa, Philipines, and Hawaii, almost all the graves cover areas of Europe. And a few VERY important quotes from smart people. At a time when politicians seem to apologize for our country's prior actions, here's a refresher on how some of our former patriots handled negative comments about our country.
JFK's Secretary of State Dean Rusk was in France in the early 60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible. Mr Rusk respnded "Does that include those who are buried here?" You could have heard a pin drop.
When in England at a fairly large conference Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by America? General Powell answered by saying "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and
women into great peril to fight for freedom beyound our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return."
You could have heard a pin drop.
The was a conference in France Where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French. During a break one of the French engineers came back into the room saying "Have you heard the latest dumb stunt America has done? They have sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intend to do, bomb them? A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people: they are nucleared powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities: they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousands gallons of fresh water per day and they carry half a dozen choppers to transport the injured to and from their fklight deck. We have eleven such ships, how many does France have? You could have heard a pin drop. To continue........Lastly I should say that you might think of emigratng to the US.

I wish I could like this a hundred times. My Dad survived both D Day and the Battle of the Bulge. I am very glad he came home and met my Mom. He was my hero. (Still is even though he died when I was 19)

I was stationed at Pearl Harbor in 1980-81. The new part of the base was incredible. But, I walk around the old part of the base,where the barracks are that the sailors of WWII lived. There's a feeling that cannot be put into words.

Among other films, he composed the scores for the Star Wars series of films, Jaws, E.T., the initial 2 Jurassic Park films, the Indiana Jones films, the initial 3 Harry Potter films, and Schindler's List. He is a respected conductor of orchestras/symphonies and composer of many classical music works. His work and accomplishments are unmatched and, again, INCOMPARABLE. He is in a class by himself.

@@Asher5250 I’m jealous. I’d love to converse with a survivor. They have much to tell, yet many don’t want to tell it. Just to sit besides one of these heroes would be humbling. My Grandfather served as a dive bomber in an A-36 Apache in the pacific. He made it out, thank god, but died before I was born. I have a picture of him in his flight suit and helmet on my windowsill. God bless those men and women.
@@MlTCH I have 2 uncles (twins) that served. One in the Pacific and one in Germany and they didn't really talk about the war until right before they passed away. I was a pharmacy technician for 20 years and was able to work at the VA for the last 5 of them and was able to speak with several of that generation. I didn't ask them to talk about the war (just chitchat in general) but some wanted to. They were the kindest and most genuine people I've met.

We as the American people are their family and they sacrificed all to keep us safe and here today. No words can do them justice. Keeping that flag up is the best we can do for them.

I wish all Americans would show respect for the flag but it is because of these individuals that they have the freedom to protest with it.
They came because their cause just. They laid down their lives for strangers in a foreign land. They rest until the last trumpet sounds, beneath the hallowed ground. A part of the unknown future the assured freedom, their cause.
Every time I watch this video it makes me feel goosebumps and cry. It’s such a reminder of the sacrifices the military has given to keep us free. More people need to watch.
My father is buried in Henry Chappel Cemetary in Belgium. It looks a lot like this, row after row of markers. He is only one of many who died defending our country.

I had the opportunity to visit the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. While our busload of American college students, old and young, were at the American cemetery our German bus driver headed to the nearby German cemetery to visit his brothers grave. Lots of tears and hugs that day. Also visited the Luxembourg American Cemetery where General George S. Patton is buried. Staggering loss of life put into perspective by the rows and rows of monuments. So honored that I was able to pay respect to the fallen heroes.

I lost my vinyl with all the moves but if you have the opportunity to listen, he wrote all the tunes on the album and tunes were about all aspects of the Vietnam soldier's life. So moving. We loved our Vietnam vets at Ft Benning Georgia.

John Williams is an American composer. You have probably heard his music before. He wrote the scores for all the Star Wars films, Indiana Jones films, ET, Jaws, Superman, and so many more. He even wrote the Olympic “theme song”. He’s one of a kind. It was a beautiful, thank you for sharing with us.
I don't know how many times I have played this composition as a euphonium player in concert bands. This will be the second Memorial day that we have not been able to play our Memorial Day concert, hopefully next year we will get to play this again in honor of the fallen. I am also a 24 1/2 active duty veteran of the U.S. military.
Always makes me cry. It's hard to see all those lives lost... but mad respect for the way they are honored!!! Long history of military in our family. My husband retired from the Navy after 20 years.
I followed in my families footsteps and joined the Military. Someone in my family has served in every war our country has been in, first member got to the new world in 1633. I was born into a military family, I joined in the Navy in ‘86, married an Army soldier in ‘95, become a widow Aug. 2003 and retired in Nov. ‘06. I’d say I experienced every aspect of military, the good and the bad. I honor our fallen everyday, not just on Memorial Day.
John Williams is an award winning composer and that he could put into music a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom isn't new. His music is more famous than you may be aware. I want to say God Bless all who served, who are serving and who will make the brave decision to serve in the future.

I recently buried my daddy (Vietnam) at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home/Johnson City Tn. My great grandfather (WW2) is also buried there. It's one the most beautiful places I've seen. I spend a lot of time there and have some amazing photographs... thank you for another excellent reaction.
Its humbling to see those rows and the gratitude I feel toward the countries that house our fallen in such respect is immeasurable. In another week it will be Memorial day here in the States. Already the VFW, American legion, countless veterans and cilivians are gathering those tiny flags. Soon every military grave no matter the war will have a flag planted in gratitude. All the towns are hanging banners with the faces of their service members both alive and gone. Those bronze plaques etched with the names of our warriors will suddenly mean something again for a little bit. Parades, bbq, the official launch of summer and the stars and stripes proudly flying everywhere. Tears will be shead in silence beside cold stones well others gather in loud celebration of life. All part of the beautiful duality of this country these people died for.

One of my uncles served with general Patton in world war II. He came home but so many did not. This was a beautiful and moving tribute to each of those who did not.

We went to Luxemburg when we stationed in Germany 1978,it was to see Gen Pattons grave,it was truly hallowed ground.We just stood and cried.The American cemetery was kept immaculate. Went a mile down the road and the German cemetery was terribble,they were dumped in a tomb.It was sad.
My grandpa was a purple heart recipient in ww2. He never spoke of the horrors he saw but worked hard with the DAV making sure disabled soldiers got the help they needed.

John Williams is, in my opinion, the best symphonic composer of his generation. And since he's in his 80s now - it is fair to say of this past 100 years. This video is an excellent one on it's own merit, combine it with his music, and it totally sets the mood for Memorial Day. We all must remember that Freedom is not free, and must be paid for and protected continuously.

Sir, four of the cemeteries mentioned (Aisne-Marne, Meuse-Argonne, Oise-Aisne and St. Mihiel) are from the First World War. Two WWI cemeteries not listed are 'Flanders Field, 368 (Belgium), and the 'Somme', 1844 (France). If I remember correctly General Pershing was the first Commissioner of the 'American Battlefield Monuments Commission' (ABMC) which was established in the early 1920s. It cares for 26 overseas American Military Cemeteries with approximately 150,000 interred.

John Williams is an EPIC composer. He’s composed the music to such blockbusters as; Star Wars, Jaws, all the Home Alone’s, as well as the Jurassic Park movies. He’s won 25 Grammy Awards, 7 British Academy Film Awards, 5 Academy Awards, and 4 Golden Globe Awards. With 52 Academy Award nominations, he is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney. So basically, if a movies has an amazing soundtrack....John Williams probably composed it. Sorry this is so long, but, having majored in music in college, I’m a big fan. I even studied some of his work for a paper. 😄 So glad you don’t just stick to one type of video to react to. 👌🏼
I’ve been to a few of those cemeteries in France, Belgium and D.C. Travel, if you can. There’s beauty beyond our front door and it helps us appreciate the diversity God created. It’s good to be unique!

Watching videos like this always humbles me. Whenever someone thanks me for my service. I get embarrassed because there are guys that paid a much much steeper price then I EVER did. I've heard it called "survivor's guilt."

That was incredible. Seeing so many monuments and graves in so many countries really hits home the amazing amount of soldiers, of all nations, that have fought for peace and protection. Then to see the tomb of the unknown and realize how many must have also never been found just brings me to tears. May the Lord watch over those who watch over us.

I've watched the War Cemeteries many times and it always gets to me every time. I was very moved at the reaction of Scotsman to this video, especially regarding his age. John Williams's music is so fitting and emotional. It is overwhelming. I'm glad that other people feel the same.
my great grandfather was one of the soldiers who fought in the war. he survived and is now passed on with his fellow comrades and while he was alive he'd visit their graves and tell his kids "that one there is Smitty" or "and here's John" its extremely emotional to know that he survived while his friends didn't. he also never considered himself brave for what he did, he would always tell my grandfather "i'm not the brave one, those who walked away aren't the brave ones. the braves ones are the ones six feet under, when you look at these graves, then your seeing the brave ones" and the first time my grandfather told me that i was so moved i think i cried. i am proud of my Great grandfather and honoured to be his offspring. my dream is to one day write a piece in honour of him and all the brave ones that perished so that i too can express my unending gratitude and respect towards them

John Williams wrote this song for the movie, Saving Private Ryan. He wrote the theme to Jaws and Star Wars and dozens of other films as well. He collaborated with Steven Spielberg on most of his movies.

When I think about that, I think about the Scottish pipe tune, "The Flowers of The Forest", going back to the Battle of Flodden in 1513 fought between the Scots and the English. I also hear a similar melody "Abide With Me".
A wonderful tribute to the brave that gave their lives to end oppression. I'm proud to be an American, and I'm proud we did it. But now, I have to ask. Will anyone come to our aid if we need it?

My dad passed away in 2014 from cancer and served in the military during Vietnam. He was in the Air Force and flew reconnaissance missions out of Thailand, over Vietnam. He’s buried at a national cemetery that is only about 15 minutes from our home. We’re very lucky to have one so close to us. National cemeteries are the most beautiful, well taken care of, respectful place I’ve ever been to and I’ll be there again this coming Memorial Day weekend. Thank you so much for showing this and for your respect for our country.

All of those cemeteries in other countries are actually considered American territory. They are maintained by th US Battle Monuments Commission. Incredibly sobering visiting those places. I've been to the cemeteries at Normandy, Henri-Chappelle, and Punchbowl in Hawaii. There is solace in just how immaculate they are, they are beautiful and peaceful places.
There is also an American dedicated cemetery in Cambridge England!

I was watching one of these where a German orchestra displayed and played this piece of music; it was definitely a "hold on, what just happened?" moment. As a veteran, I appreciate and believe in the words, "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted". Glad to see this video reaction.

My Grandfather fought in Florence, was captured on a recon patrol on the way to Bologne. He was force marched across Europe to STALAG VIIA in Mooseburg Germany, upon liberation he weighed 89 pounds. He spent months recovering in Paris.
He lived a long life, was a good man, battled alcohol but beat it, he never spoke of the war till I cornered him on it, it was very hard for, you see "the greatest generation, God, guns, America and glory" but he never shot a gun again, never touched one. He told me about the fear, the resentment they held to those st home not doing their part, not believing there was a way home, it seemed impossible to survive. He was a replacement soldier, very tough, the old fogs didn't want to know your name then they didn't hv to care when you died but through combat he became one of them, another RED BULL of the 34th Inf Div the Germans called them the RED DEVILS.
When his brother died mom took him, they had military graveside rights, grandpa told mom "when I die there's to be no flag on my coffin and no guns fired over my grave".
My talking to him, he letting it out finally, the pain, the loss, it was hard but each time he was a little better, he went with mom to Washington DC, the Memorial was finished, it and the reverence paid around DC to the Veterans, the Memorials on the Mall affected him, changed his attitude, a little pride crept in.
He called me, asked if I could get his medals re-commissioned, they'd been lost in a fire, firemen stole them and a sword. He didn't care about them anyways but suddenly they mattered. It wasn't easy and as his cancer progressed we went through the VFW State Commander and our State Senator, they were fast tracked, we tried to get him the Purple Heart but he refused "it's just shrapnel, I've seen what bullets and shells do" his shrapnel was from a mortor that decapitated his best friend from training camp, Talbot, grandpa couldn't say his name nearly 60 later, that's why he refused the Purple Heart though his leg was shredded and set off airport alarms. You refuse it, you don't get it.
Bronze Star with cluster, campaign medals, POW medals, anyways they made it in time, we had had a ceremony a family member SGT Bockting, Veteran of Bosnia, Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom two tours presented him his medals.
He asked to have Military Graveside Rights and made peace with it all. He made clear when he was done discussing and told his story once more to his eldest son finishing with "I never want yo talk about it again" but he didn't cry, he didn't break down he'd finally talked it out.
When he died the family knew the story, knew of his buddy Talbot who's loss had crushed him all those years, that died right beside him....the man that presents the flag during the service graveside, he felt eyes upon him from everyone. He had policed the brass from the 21 gun salute to give to the grand kids, we thanked him when he asked "why is everyone staring at me"
"Because that name badge, your last name is Talbot"

My father is buried in Loraine cemetery at St. Avold, France. I was 18 months old when he was KIA on 7 December 1944. I made the trip in August to be the first in the family to visit his grave.
John Williams has become, for me, America's greatest composer, arranger, and conductor. He proudly joins the ranks of the greatest composers....Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and others but STILL WITH US! in our modern era! Williams was a composer conductor who made his living off of TV in the 60's. Irwin Allen hired him for shows like Lost in Space. Afterwards, he was Allen's go to guy. The same thing happened with Spielberg, Lucas, and DeLaurentis. Latter, he became the conductor for the Boston Pops.

Ive been to the war grave near Omaha beach, totally humbling,i think there's 10000 headstones there as far as the eye can see all the way round.very humbling and a beautiful respected place.🏴😢😢😢
