The sound of "Taps" always brings tears to my eyes.
Both of my parents served in the Army during WWII. My Dad received a Purple Heart. My family has served during every war starting with the Revolutionary War. Don't mess with the USA, we will hurt you! They both had military funerals and I lived on a military fort. I hated hearing taps every evening. I would increase the volume on my TV so I wouldn't. Taps means "the end". I hate that song. Saddest song ever written IMO.
@@deborahasher176 My dad was a Marine in WW2. He got shot up at Guam in 1944 and, because of his injuries, wasn't allowed to return to combat once he healed up. He was always very proud of his service in the Marines, but would never talk about the war.
Watching this had me in tears. My husband joined the army when he was 18 years old. He was sent to Vietnam where he fought and was exposed to Agent Orange. He came home and were married in 1973. He died May 17, 2020 from Agent Orange. It slowly destroyed his internal organs finally causing heart failure. He spent his life as a police officer. He retired, was a probation officer, a city councilman, and finally mayor of Wyandotte, Michigan. He was a husband, father, and grandfather. His life was one of service to his country. Sadly he is missed by his family and all who knew him. Joseph R. Peterson gave his all for his country. I miss him. I am his wife. 😢❤️🇺🇸
Those wreaths that are laid at the tombs of each fallen are donated through collections of the citizenry and are not funded through taxes. Every year, the people honor our fallen dead. They are our fathers, our brothers and sisters, they belong to us.
The u.k. do the same each year , the poppy appeal collects donations for the royal british legion ❤❤

The beginning is a speech from Ronald Reagan. You should watch it in its entirety because it is so much more moving. It was somewhat paraphrased...I've pretty much memorized the whole thing. He wrote most of his own speeches so to hear him speak those words is powerful. I'm so proud to be an American and honored to say that my family has served and served with pride.

TAPS for me is the hardest music to listen to. My Father was a 30 year veteran that fought in 3 wars. So it was played at his funeral, along with the flag-draped coffin and 21 gun salute. I miss him every single day, and he died in 1998. I was already grown with children of my own. Thank you for reacting to this and honoring the fallen. ❤🙏🏻💔😭
I am the wife of a US Army Officer who will retire next year after 30 years of service. God blessed me with the most humble and patriotic husband. Every deployment brought the fear that he wouldn't come home. He feared losing the soldiers he was entrusted to lead. His heart aches at the loss of friends and the families they left behind. He is always mindful of God's grace in his life. Thank you to all who serve and God Bless those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Although my family hasn't personally paid that ultimate sacrifice, I still feel an ultimate debt.
All of us who live under their blanket of freedom live indebted to all our fallen servicemen and women. We must never forget the cost of our freedom. Freedom isn't free.

Americans in the last couple of decades have become jaded and gotten amnesia ( not all of us I know, but most). Thank You to all of the soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for my freedom! When I watch these types of videos it always surprises me how much respect the people in the European villages give to the cemetery’s they take care of. Unfortunately too many Americans just think it’s the start of summer. I can see it in your face how much it means to you. The schools just don’t teach history like they used to. Today is the 77th Anniversary of D Day! Thousands of brave Men stormed the Beaches of Normandy and Parachuted behind Enemy lines to Free Europe from Nazi Aggression. As I am a Disabled American Veteran who served over 20 years in the Military. I am proud to be a Vet. For all those who survived and gave the Ultimate Sacrifice I thank you from the bottom of my Heart
I spent memorial day at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chickamauga Battleground! More need to honor our fallen protectors of Freedom! Salute!!!! So many touching moments I witnessed that day. God Bless all the Families if Our Warriors!!

To my Scottish Brother in Arms, thank you for your heart felt tribute!!! This past Memorial Day hurt as I remember two men who were KIA in Iraq. Our VFW held a ceremony, and for the first time in awhile I cried like a baby. So which much respect I say Thank You!!!!!!!!

Check out "More than a Name on a Wall" a tribute to Vietnam Veterans written by Jimmy Fortune and originally performed by the Statler Brothers. Jimmy was thier High Tenor. There is also a very good version by The Petersens, a family bluegrass band from Branson, MO.
My mother lost her brother two weeks after D-day. He was a top torrent gunner flying on a mission against the German airborne over the English Channel. His body was never recovered but his remains are still there somewhere in the water where he fell. Every memorial day we would visit our towns graveyard and lay flowers at his grave. My mother would tell us stories about an uncle we would never know but grew to admire and rever. He was a young man when he died and never had the chance to marry or have a family of his own.

There is no place more emotionally powerful than a National cemetery. I lost my veteran husband 18 months ago. Each time I visit his grave I look around at all the precisely lined up headstones and the power of that image sticks in your head. I find peace knowing when my time comes I too will be laid to rest surrounded by these brave men that gave their lives and service when called upon. His funeral service, from the flag folding to taps played to the gun salute was so emotional but I will never forget it. Thank you for playing this video

Whenever I hear that lonely horn begin playing I have the urge to stand at attention and salute while fighting tears. I don't know why but in the first two notes my heart is ripped into by that sound.

I see your point however some people might choose to take a lighter approach to remembering their family and friends that paid the ultimate price will never return and that they will never see them or listen to their voice again, instead remember and celebrate the good joyful times and toss a few back in honor of them, hence celebration of all of these hero’s lives

@@robleonard6424 lots of people do! A friend sent me a text saying it. I started to send my reply back to share my opinion on it. I sent her an email after I could respond without coming off as though it was an unpardonable sin.

@@robleonard6424 I know for myself growing up, it was the only day we would go on a picnic. We also would go to the cemeteries to pay respect to any and all family members that had died. It was not until I grew older that I realized that we were honoring the wrong dead. I try and honor those that gave all. I also those that served, not just on Veteran's Day. In my opinion, anyone that served deserves to be honored. That there is no such thing of I only served stateside, so it does not count. I tell all veterans that I would dig a foxhole so deep that nobody could find me if I had to serve.
** New comment** I was at a job and met a WWII veteran that served on the Red Ball Express, amazing! He was shocked someone my age even knew of it. He quizzed me, and I knew what I was talking about. It is one of my favorite movies. He informed not all guys were as good-looking as the main character. I quipped, you mean you didn't look like Sidney Poitier back then, he laughed so hard. His son came back later to tell me that my excitement of meeting his dad made his dad cry with joy and proud of his service in ways that he never had before.
Don Father, I somehow think this kind of videos takes a lot out of you, more than you admit on camera. I can tell from your face that you have vivid memories of some brothers in arms. Maybe one day, you'll do us the honor of not reacting to another video, but of posting your own wherein you give a fitting tribute to those you knew who sacrificed the life they would have had for us. Till then, be sure have have a right to a place in our hearts. Keep up the great work.

It's our bright, young futures that go to war. We lose so many possible great people, Genius, Doctors, Scientist. They give us our freedom at the price of their futures.
I always greatly enjoy watching your videos since you show respect when and how it is proper. I am a US Navy veteran whose father served in the US Army in Korea. Thus I was taught how to respect our veterans. Thank you for this video and your respectful comments.

Taps: the 24 saddest notes any American will ever hear. Gets me every time. I don't cry easily, but wave the flag and sing any patriotic song and pass the nose-wipes.
My great uncle went missing in action during WW2, his plane went down over the Pacific ocean off the coast of Alaska and nothing was ever found. His name is on the hill of the missing in Arlington national cemetery and on the wall of the missing in Punchbowl stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I also feel we need to be including more people and that in the remembrance because we fought wars before the Great war and we lost people who died for our way of life. Interesting piece of trivia the number of casualties from 3 days battle at Gettysburg during the civil war matched the number of casualties from Vietnam. And they all deserve our remembrance because they all sacr.
We usually spend Memorial Day at the cemetery where my grandfather is buried. We take Navy and American flags, along with flowers to decorate his gravesite. He served in the Navy during World War 2 on the USS Wolsey DD-437 Destroyer. He passed before I was born. I miss him so much! I am so proud to be his granddaughter. I love and miss you Zady! You are always in my heart!

I am a mother of 3 amazing boys!! My oldest joined the US Army 9 months ago and my middle son just left today for basic training with the US Army. My youngest son told me he is thinking about joining also, but he still have a couple of years until he is old enough. Thank you. Today is June 6 - the anniversary of D-day, WWII. Normandy for the U.K and the USA.. Omaha Beach - never to be forgotten by Americans.
Canada had a beach there too, not just the US and the UK. Juno beach, the 2nd most defended beach after Omaha, and by the end of the first day they were further inland than any of the other beaches.

November 11th in the USA is called Veterans Day and it honors all veterans - not just the fallen. It dates from WW1 and Armistice Day which was 11/11/1918. Memorial Day in the USA dates from 1868 and was originally called "Decoration Day", meaning the graves of Civil War dead were decorated on the day. It was changed during WW2 to Memorial Day and honors all of those who fell in the military service of the United States of America.
What I take from everyone (I was US Navy) I know that joined the military, they didn't join to kick someone's / some other country's butt, they joined to defend what the US stood for to them, and to help those outside the US that needed it. In other words, they weren't soldiers to conquer, they were there to help. To all my brothers and sisters in USA and to all combat vets whose hearts were in the right place, you live on in our memories. As the video says, we can't repay, but we can remember.
On Memorial Day, this is happening in every town, city and every rural area in every state in the USA. Flags are out on home or yard and buildings across the nation. Cemeteries have family and friends visiting lost loved ones.
Man Taps gets me every time. Now I am no longer in the service and don't hear it hardly ever anymore but when I do so many things come rushing back at once. Thank you for the respect you show for our country.
It is reactions like this that I respect the hell out of you for! As the daughter of one brave man who was killed in Vietnam when he was only 26, and I was only 2 1/2 years old...I thank you for remembering our fallen. Taps always gets me. Being the only female out of generations of men, have served in our Armed Forces. I'm proud of my country. Doing ramp ceremonies is one of the hardest I've done when you know the soldiers being sent home one last time. This is why so many veterans don't say Happy Memorial Day. We get together with our families and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. To them I owe my freedom, to them I salute, because of them I could serve knowing my oath never expires.

My dad was 8 years old when Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japanese forces. He left school and joined the US Navy at 16 with his parents permission. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Seas during the Korean “Conflict” where he was exposed to asbestos on board the ship.
He was blessed to be able to come home, have a family and chase the American dream for 46 years before he died from asbestos related mesothelioma.
He was a proud American and flew Old Glory till the day he died. RIP Daddy…10/03/1933-2/18/2000♥️
Yup crying like a baby here too. I remember when I was a kid in the late 60's and going to the funeral of my mothers cousin who was killed in vietnam. Something I will never forget.

You show so much respect for the soldiers more than the citizens of the US do I personally show allot of support for the military and even have a USN uniform of my own (not technically in service wise uniform but just Navy JROTC program cadet uniform) I think people should support and respect the military more
When I look at the gravesites whether they were young or old and you see that they were a soldier I always say a prayer for them and say Thank You. I wonder if they had someone with them at the very end and then I remember that they were never alone because Our Lord was there holding that Soldier or Corpman or Chaplain’s hand as they took their last breath. I’m sure they knew it because they saw Him and He was telling them that it was time to “Come Home.”
Taps is the loneliest sound in the world. You never feel more alone as when you hear it played for a Friend, a Family Member or a Parent. You can be surrounded by a hundred people and you feel like that lone person by that coffin. Now, every time I here that short Beautiful tune, no matter whether I know the person or not, I always say Job Well Done and Thank You. ✝️🇺🇸

I'm 53 yrs old, my father was in WW11 and Korea. He would only talk about some things, but not eveything. He died at the age of 72 in 1997. He had the flag and taps with the 21 gun shulute.

I laid my sweet daddy to rest Sept 2019 at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City Tn. He was a Vietnam Veteran - Army DUSTOFF pilot.
My Great Grandfather is buried there. He was a WWII Navy man.
I also have friends there. My best friend's husband is there. I go often to visit and to pay my respect to all the fallen heros.
If anyone is ever in the NE Tennessee area, you should stop by. It's a beautiful place. The history there is amazing.
If you look at the headstones in Arlington Cemetery, they are all in rows, no matter which way you look; straight or diagonal.

My friend LCPL David R Hall died from an IED in Afghanistan in 2009. No idea where he’s buried. I think of him often. 😢

This really hit home and it really pisses me off that there's all these people in our country trying to change everything that all these people died for died to make this country great and keep it great these people trying to change it and turn into something horrible they won't realize what they had until they've lost it and that's really really sad

I was born May 30th, the True Memorial Day, in the past years Retail has taken it over here in the United States 🇺🇸,..so they ( retail giants) can make as much money 💰 as possible, they even changed the calendar to reflect 😔 this., most people look at it as a party time 3 day weekend,..yet there are Many of us here in the United States 🇺🇸 that haven't forgotten the True meaning of Memorial Day, and it's True date...May 30th. It's a Day to Show Honor and Respect for All American Soldiers who have payed the ultimate price for Peace, mostly Abroad.

My dad never let me forget that the day they found out mom was pregnant with me, late '66, was the same day my dad received is draft letter, he had to go and prove mom was pregnant, and they relisted his number as married with a dependent, and it never came up again. He would tell that story, and cry and thank God.
