The Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport RS, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R are regarded as three of the fastest road-legal track day tyres in the world. To find out which of these three semi slick tires reign supreme, I've borrowed a 991.2 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and have use of Michelin's tyre test facility in central France to run my own tyre testing program.
Not being satisfied with just running dry handling, I'm going to test the tyres in wet handling, dry and wet braking, and of course the all important dry handling, to find out which tyre is fastest in which conditions.
As always, any questions you have about the test, please feel free to ask in the comments, I do my best to answer everything!

@@kasakasa5719 it's not a track tyre
the hero we have but don't deserve
I'm genuinely dissapointed in people for caring so little about tyres that they'll drive around on dry rotted winter tyres in midsummer.
This channel is super important, and it provides invaluable information that I genuinely find interesting and even fun.
It is stunning that so many people don't seem to care about tyres. They just stick whatever is cheapest and forget about them. Also, the amount of cars I've that have failed their MOT because of bald tyres is shocking.
Thank you 😊
@@setra23 and new cars get 3 years before an inspection... if only uk government had common sense instead of smart ideas!
Here in Florida all tires are summer tires 😂🤣😂
It is astonishing that people have decent cars and wrecked/cheap-o tyres. When I get out of my car in a car park, I casually look at the tyres and can barely believe the things I've seen.
The feeling from your car when you fit quality new tyres is worth the premium every time. Pulling out of junctions aggressively and the traction control remaining dormant is very satisfying, not to mention safe!
I love how you characterise each tyre and explain which is suited for every desire. Brilliant!
Thank you :)
Awesome, been waiting for the Pirelli review for so long!! Thank you!!!!
I love these kinds of videos comparing tyres. It's just amazing how tyres make such a huge difference to a car yet it's the thing people don't take care of, pay attention to or know about. I love shopping for new tyres and videos like these help to compare. Awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@tyrereviews Hi , wich tyres with rim protection you gonna suggest me to get ,as I have 275 35 r21 ...and i don't know wich to get ! As I'm a taxi driver!
Thanks in advance!
Goodness, a tire nerd's wet dream. Time to settle in and start the work day right!
Awesome info. Thank you to all the parties involved in bringing this together to make it happen
Amazing how you illustrate words with corresponding video cuts. Incredible work.
As always. A brilliant and surprising review. Congrats...loved it!
Another stunning video, no question left unanswered, thanks very much.
Love it!!! Been waiting for that duel (Cup vs Trofeo) for years. Great work and awesome that you got the wet handling too. Imo its just as intresting to know your tires limits in the wet as on dry. Most of us drives the car to the track, make our laps and then go home. Rain can come fast at any time of the day so, again, great work!
I was looking forward to this! What a great test, props for organising this so well 👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
You legend. I’ve been waiting for this.
Never have I been this early. Awesome stuff as always
Crazy you had the opportunity to test that. I bet that didn't feel like work ;)
Keep those reviews coming, we love them
The Cup 2 R is there for you to go as fast as possible on a street legal tyre, whereas the Cup 2 is an all day semi slick that will be super consistent and last quite a bit longer.
It would be pleasant to use Cup 2R as street tires in Saudi Arabia😂
Goodyear f1 supersport is a fantastic tyre on my focus rs,
I see you also watch Robert Mitchel :p
I used both Cup 2 and the old PSS for both trackday and daily. The cup 2s were clearly superior on track, and even did ok on a wet track. They had half the life as a road tyre though. (2 sets of both used)
I’d imagine the cup2R and PS4 combination would be both better and more extreme in wet/longevity metrics
I don't want a fast tire, I want a fun tire; a tire that uses all the latest construction technology to give us the best steering feedback and break away characteristics, but without the focus on grip and lap times. I can't tell the difference between .95g and 1.07g, and I don't care; higher limits mean less time to enjoy the car. Make a 4S with 500 tread wear that I can enjoy on the street and not go broke.
The dry braking really shows off how good the Michelin tire is. It`s an impressive difference. Great Video!
Brilliant video mate and huge congrats on the 100K Subs 👏
Legend!
Definitely worth the wait. Thank u for this thorough review 🙌🏿
Thanks for this.
I waited 1 year super test tires :-)
Once again a great review and staying impartial throughout! Keep up the good work 👍
Much appreciated!
This is incredibly helpful and informative. I’ve been looking for a good tire for my GT4 for some track day (newbie) fun and this is certainly helpful.
Glad I could help!
As usual, outstanding report.
Outstanding video. Well worth the years hard work to get access to the equipment and track.
Hope you are safe and well
Very interesting! People are in a war for horsepower and sometimes forget of the all important tires. The single point of contact of the car with the road or track! Subscribed!
This channel and your website is such a gym!
Awesome test! Congrats on getting this done. Big props.
Thank you very much!
Wow, thank you so much man, amazing test! Keep it up. Next one Dunlop Direzza and Yoko AE52
After watching one of your reviews, I purchased the GYF1SS for my Alfa QV and absolutely love them!
Keep doing what you're doing dude! I love it.
That's the plan!
I have a 991.2 GT2RS I have had breaking problems on the oily roads of Las Vegas. Your video helped I am buying the Perelli’s thank you!
Mate thank you for the videos - wish car reviews had this at the end
Great review, keep up the good work 👌🏽
Another brilliant test!
I love summer track capable tyres!
Great channel!
Thank you very much!
You surely had fun. Greetings from Malaysia! Fantastic video as always. I like how you put the importance of "drivability" and fun in your tyre verdict criteria. I just installed Goodyear Asymmetric 5 on my BMW, it is such a wonderful tyre. Thank you for your recommendation and keep up the hard work!
Glad you're getting on with the Asym 5 :)
You supply me with a lot of new things to think about. Thanks. Safe motoring.
Great video, the Pirelli Trofeo R is the spec tyre for the UK time attack series for most of the lower classes. Glad to hear it's good haha
Excellent video again!!
Such an underrated channel
Excellent content as always!
Much appreciated!
Cant wait to see an Cup 2 vs Trofeo R video 😁
I can't wait to do it!
word! I currently rock 295 and 325 trofeo R, but orderd cup2 to test, ran 295/335 R888 before this. I have to say the trofeo R has been amazing.
@@tyrereviews Throw in an A052 too...
Still waiting on a more "budget" compereson of: Toyo, nankang, yokohama,.... vs cup 2
This!
Nokian as well... I'm very pleased
At least here in germany the Yokohama A052 is not eh more budget concussion version. But it is still my favorite semi slick (I have those on my BMW E36 M3). Nankang and Toyo kind of are. The Nankang are supposted to be really good, but i never ever have driven those. The Toyos are not really good. It is more sensible to buy the Michelin pilot 4s, then any of the Toyo semislicks. Equal performance, with longer tyre life. Furthere more thy are lot better in the wet.
@@amduser86 i drove the Toyo R888R and they are a lot better then the PS4 :-)
Well it’s easy. The Cup 2 will absolutely smash the others out of the park
From the race track to the road! What a technology transfer! 😃
Finally, this is awesome!
I love tyres, I love this channel, I love your work. Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Thank you so much for these detailed tests. I'd like to see more truck and suv tire tests as I just got a set for my truck!
Working on truck stuff :)
Excellent review as always 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
This is the first channel that I hit the like button, before I even watch the video
Thank you :)
Top notch review. Really liked it. Thanks.
Much appreciated!
A great review. I have a set of Trofeo Rs on my track car and agree with your sentiment re: longevity.
I like to give thumbs up after learning something , and I enjoy this a lot Ty for sharing and taking time to bring good information
Awesome, thank you!
Remarkable reviews, great job👍
Glad you liked it!
The level of professionalism you exhibit in your videos is second to none, and without superficial, nonsense talk your revoews are kind of a tire gospel to me. Thank you
Thank you!
These videos satisfy my strange love of tires like nothing else. Really enjoy all these tests and the great mix of objective and subjective feedback. Huge appreciation for all the work it takes to put each of these videos together. Curious how the Michelin and Goodyear would do in a non oe application ie: would they still favor understeer and require heavy concentration?
Nothing weird about loving tyres. The balance of the non-oe tyres will be very vehicle dependant.
This was a great video to watch! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
GUN MAN great track tyre review, comes down to how soft you want your tyres, full race tyres in the DRY would be interesting cheers.
Great stuff Jon, and what a car! I know you try to keep things brief and not plumb the depths of nerdiness, but hell why worry?
PS bought some Eagle F1s last year on your recommendation- cheers loving them & amazing value vs Mich’s and Bridges.
Glad you're enjoying the tyres and the videos!
Perfect! Thank you very much for including the weight :)
No problem 😊
Nice work on this one!
Appreciate it!
Will probably never do a track day but what an awesome insight into such tyres. Excellent
You should!
@@tyrereviews Too old, sold the performance car a while back, its 4 door comfortable German saloon car driving for me nowadays but as always with top quality tyres. 👍🏼
Can I just say that apart from this being the review I've most been looking forward to ... Mich sidewalls outstanding in that finish! Amazing video mate!
If this was a sidewall test Michelin would own it
It’s good like the Pirelli’s sidewalls in F1
What a channel! New suscribed from Spain. Really good video.
Awesome, thank you!
Great review 👏 👏 👏
Great review.
Excellent review!!!!
Glad you liked it!
Best tyre review and best tyre review channel bar NONE. Love it. Keep them coming.
Wow, thanks!
@@tyrereviews what's your background if you don't mind me asking?
@@stevenross-watt8640 a long time ago I started in web development and digital marketing, it's taken 14 years working at tyres to get to this point
@@tyrereviews thanks. Interesting. What an achievement to get the point Porsche are lending you a GT3 RS and you are at the Michelin test facility. I'm sure you know but its an ideal balance of relatable technical detail and language a fellow petrolhead can absorb and understand that makes it the main channel to watch for tyres. Keep up the good work. Cheers. SRW
@@stevenross-watt8640 Thanks for the kind words, really appreciated 😁
Great comprehensive review 👌! Perfect choice if test car 😉!
Thanks! 👍
Very informative nice video
I'm a Michelin fan. Congratulations from Brazil
I would love to see a chapter about tyre pressure, for daily drive, track, winter/summer... It's probably just as important as the tyres we use.
He said to me he's working on something like that
Great review and well done for an honest review while using Michelin’s test track.
Thanks! 👍
@@tyrereviews how many miles would a set be expected to do on the road and on a track? guessing a set is around £1k?
great video - any chance to test road legal Semi slicks like Pilot Sport Cup 2 vs. Yokohamas etc..?
I would love to see an eco tire review/comparison/best eco tire video!
Ps: great video like always ;)
Due in a few weeks
Great video guys. Now we need "hpde tire test : Cup2 vs GY 3R Vs yoko A052! Thanks!
Working on it!
@@tyrereviews that is awesome. Thanks a lot!
This video is a tyre enthusiast's wet dream!
Nice review 👍Bridgestone Potenza S007 &005 next time, thanks
Great video again. Love all these reviews. Any chance of a video comparing budget track day tires in smaller sizes 15's 16's 17's. For those of us with cheap run around who would like to do the odd track day but can't stretch to the bigger name brands.
Trying my best 😊
Great Job, keep working
Haven’t been on tires like these since the late 90’s. A032R’s were my favorite back then.
Love your videos! When can we expect 16" tyre comparison?
On test this second, so maybe about 10 days from now
The fact that even when only talking about the Michelin and Goodyear he keeps coming back to the Trofeo R as as reference point, that really speaks volumes about the Trofeo.
Thanks!
1.4G braking!?!? My god these are pretty much racing slicks with tread just for decoration haha. Great video as always.
I always lauded your ability to talk through a hotlap. Glad you, too, are human in the end and found your nemesis. :D
Haha thank you, this was too much
As a long time track day/amateur racing driver, I would totally pick the Pirelli -- which really surprised me because I tend to prefer Michelin over pretty much any other manufacturer. Stability is immensely important. I'll take that over 1 lap wonders any day.
Best tyre reviewer on the web 👍
Best and only :D
Good work as always! Sadly some of us will always be relegated to choose between the CUP2 and Tropheo R 😒.
*most of us given the sizes
Great review ! I really like this facility (though I've only been on the wet test track). I bet some tyres were a bit sliced if you put them past the concrete water diffuser on the heavy grain asphalt :D
It's cool from Michelin to even let clubs do track days too ! Considering the grooves (or lack of), they perform quite well I believe, that's also how far and better (expensive tyres) have come today. Astonishing performance
I was told about track days there, very cool!
@@tyrereviews we did "drift / slide" days 3 years in a row there, the most anticipated track day of the year because it's so much fun as well as very "educational". Fwd, rwd or awd, we learn a lot. A friend of mine also kissed the guard rail on the main straight, destroying front bumper. A Marshall found the license plate between the rail and the wall. Pretty funny to explain that to the police in the village 😂😂
Thanks, great video as always, although I guess the majority of the watchers can't afford such a track toy and hence such tyres.
Interesting to see how much Michelin and Goodyear were worn against the Pirelli, I guess the latter has less soft compound? Would be great to talk more about behavior beyond their limit (if you just want to have fun and not necessarily chase lap times). 😊
While sliding around is great fun, these really arent the tires for it. They wear too quickly. Much better to have a set of regular Cup 2 or similar.
@@Talynen the thing is, some people turn all of the electronic aids off at the track, so oversteer is inevitable anyway. Even the tidiest driver will experience some oversteer in a Corvette Z06/ZR1, Shelby GT500, and most RWD cars for that matter. For people like me, knowing how controllable the car is going to be is an important data point when it comes time to push the car to and past its limits.
@@flyingphoenix113 Yeah, that's fair. I read the original comment as asking him to just discuss which tire is better for drifting, basically. Your interpretation, from what I can gather, reads more like "please discuss the breakaway characteristics and how easy it is to regain control of the car beyond the limit," which I thought the video did sort of address already. (e.g., the sudden and rather disconcerting oversteer the Pirelli displayed in wet handling).
@J B, just a fan of the man for his driving skills and of this era when crazy boys were pushing death machines to their limits 🙂
Such an interesting tread pattern on them
That Pirelli is great. After some hot almost as quick, great wear and keeps you away from going over the limit. Nice tyre!
Hope a new test includes at least a ad08rs (of the old r) and a 595rs-pro. Would love to see you review them. Keep up the great work!
Working on it :)
@@tyrereviews Good news! Can't wait!
@@tyrereviews please add the Kumho Ecsta V70A too that test. Really want to see how much faster it is.
Great review! The only thing you missed is the heat cycles. I'm not sure about the other two, but the Cup 2 R has a limited number of heat cycles. This is why for me, I go with the Cup 2 non-R version on my 991.2 GT3RS for lapping. That and the obviously short life span which isn't worth it since I'm not racing the car.
Weather didn't allow this :(
Thanks for the video!
Brilliant to see the detail and clearly fun too.
How many people did it take to run that day and all the wheel / tyre swaps?
It’s a shame Porsche will have a fit, should you book your car into the dealer on a non N marked tyre!
3 days and about 6 or 7 people involved
Well done.
Brilliant mate, pure tyre porn!
Would love to see a test of the ar1 on a smaller car :)
Very interesting and informative. Would be great if you can have a look on the Dunlop Sport Max Race. It is also an OE tire which comes on the 991.2 RS
The Goodyear replaced it
Great review. I compete in my GT3RS and have been using the Supersport RS tyres. The biggest issue is warming up the tyres then getting a clear lap immediately to set a fast time before the grip drops off. You only have one shot at it, but there can be up to 20 cars on track. If you get held up on your first hot lap you may as well have run Cup 2’s or similar and saved a lot of money as they last much longer. Cup 2 R’s are also significantly more expensive than the Goodyear’s here in Oz, but I’ve got one set so looking forward to trying them out shortly.
You have a nice life!
Are Supersport RS tyres crazy fast only 1st lap when they are new... or it's their behaviour every heat cycle? So after cooling them ca 1 hour in box... can you make the first lap super fast again?
@@tonous83 I feel they have given their best after one session and don’t come back from that. The grip definitely drops off after a couple of fast laps for sure. I have been using the Cup 2 R’s and find they don’t drop off with the grip as quickly as the Goodyears, but again, they are always best on the first session then drop off. Unless you’re competing your definitely better off with normal Cup 2’s I believe.
Bridgestone RE-71r’s. Need to be looked at. Trust me.
The fact sanctioned race events ban them for lower class groups says a lot. I’ve got a set but haven’t had a chance to run them yet. But I’ve heard nothing but amazing things from drivers WAY better than my self.
Not available in Europe unfortunately
Karthoum what?! What a bummer. Wonder why not these tires are amazing.
I'm coming to the States and I'll try and test them
Tyre Reviews cant wait! My race class banned these due to the performance and not wanting the series to turn into a money contest. I bought them anyways and now have to run in the class 3 open class putting my 350z against GTR’s 😂
Yeah they're everywhere at top level autocross events. The Hankook RS4 is popular for more endurance.
