Podcast clips I mean they had to shoot the podcast in the first place.
I watched.. He just put a text for 3secs mentioning the 15(even 10mins for 4k 30p) limitation. You all always complained about the 29min limitations on the dslr era.. lol.. now because you are Pana fanboy you try to defense the ridiculous 10min limitation on a 2024 mirrorless camera...
C’mon dude, you got flown to Tokyo to hang out with your homies. There’s no way your baseline wasn’t already elevated before you even went hands on with the camera. The other issue is they specifically grabbed the folks that neutral or anti- Fuji just so they could use you guys for a driveby on Fujifilm cameras. That was the weird part that would have been fine if it was like one person, but as it turns out it seems like it was a raft of FF snobs.
Like he said - it’s not that deep - it’s a camera release 😂 They also flew over people that didn’t have large followings on socials and who were their demographic
@@hanumanguy The screwed up part is had they just reviewed the camera instead trying to “hype it up” and drag down another brand out of Panasonic’s clear jealousy of Fujifilm to drown out the shortcomings of the camera none of this would have happened.
Nah man he used the term "THE TRUTH" on his title, so it must be true. Dude got flown to Japan, hung out with all his buddies, was made to feel like he's significant, literally was made the voice for the company, why would any of that not give him a bias? Regardless if what he says, them flying him there gave them the opportunity to create endless content to generate income.
@@AllCarsUnited I’m happy for him as far as making the best of the opportunity. I wouldn’t begrudge him that. There’s more shade on Panasonic. No other brand has created an event that, at the end of the day, was created to specifically to attempt to sideswipe another brand and that’s what the whole LUT discussion to distract people from the single stop toy lens, lack of mechanical shutter, lack of hot shoe etc. was about. Neither Sony nor Sigma pushed reviewers to attempt to degrade another brand almost before fully reviewing their own product with the ZVE-1 original the FP which are cameras with similar features and they marketed them as live streaming cameras…full stop.
What did I get paid for? You think them flying me to Japan is a payment? No sir. They have to fly us there for marketing. A payment is when money is exchanged for a service or product. Yall got this twisted
People are upset because they’re tired of paying more for less. If this is “entry-level” now, then necessary features are about to get even more expensive. They could just make impressive products at a reasonable price instead of heavy handed marketing and price gouging.
$1500 is expensive for stabilized open gate, 4k/60p, Anamorphic support and interchangeable lenses? Y'all are impossible. 5 years ago these specs at this price would have caused people's heads to explode. Still no camera the can do these things for this price. Where's all the hate on the Sony ZV-E1 LOL?
right! making bad 0roducts look hype doesn't make them be good, but we are experienced photographers and videographers, it's not made for us... it's made for "i only use natural light" photographers, who don't know how to focus "so f/8 and be there" ... and "for video you don't need hotshoe" vloggers...
I’ve already kinda said my thing but when I tell you guys the way we were having some FUN! We literally were running around the city, photographing everything , trading luts in the group chat and keekeeing for a week straight, Terry hit the nail on the head, like you have to try it, and use it as intended, it’s a lot of fun 🙏🏾
I work for the federal government, and [at my agency] I can’t accept any gift exceeding $25 in monetary value or total compensation. The rationale is that my decision-making would be influenced and that the optics of the exchange would undermine my credibility. I’m not one of the angry, butthurt UA-cam commenters. Do as you wish, but the negative feedback has a framework. Yes, there are lifeless commenters who should have more to do with their time. There are also people like me who are subjected to a much more rigorous ethics protocol. If we don’t appreciate the guilt-by-association groupings, we should abstain from the source that draws us into its orbit. Just my low-resting heart rate opinion.
I mean, if someone flew you around the world to visit his home and gave you raw meat and asked for your opinion, you would at most say it tastes "interesting" and maybe it's not for me.
People need to chill, you perfectly illustrated pros and cons and why you like it and others might not. That’s all anybody can ask for. I come to the same conclusion. It was great seeing you in Osaka.
100% No dog in this fight. I'm a former Nikon DSLR, but now a big time Olympus/OMDS MFT shooter. I've seen the sensor size hate online. I've seen the brand hate online. We are led around by tech obsessed idiots who only look at specs (their pictures are probably mediocre) and social media hype churn merchants. We have AMAZING camera gear today....it's been amazing for the last 5-10 years actually...and all we get is bitching and moaning when a new piece of gear comes out from a vocal bunch of fools. We have gear that folks 10-20 years ago could only dream about, but far too many of us are unhappy...like spoiled children on Christmas. Thanks for calling these people out.
Why can't we all just admit it... we are not angry because our favourite influencers go "too easy" on the S9, we are angry because we wanted this camera so much to finally be the one... except we wanted it with an EVF, mech. shutter and hot shoe. So it is basically just our personal disappointment. Instead we then get angry that our youtubers don't express our frustrations to the same degree.
I could have done without the mechanical shutter. Maybe even no EVF if there was a rangefinder. But no hotshoe is the last straw. That's beyond leaving features out for price reasons. That's just gimping the camera. They're targeting content creators but not giving them the tools to actually do that. Who is this for? It's a glorified point and shoot.
@@MegiddoTheImmaculatetargeting content creators but then not having a headphone jack and having a ten minute record limit just makes lumix like like they didn't know what they are doing

Unfortunately Panasonic is depreciating the M43 line. Its not from lack of interest. For instance we had a 50mp MFT Sensor available on the market since Late 2018-2019 but Panasonic stated they werent interested. You know how many wildlife photographers would KILL for a small travel MFT camera with killer telephoto and cropping capabilities, coupled with the super 7.5 stop IBIS that camera would FLY OF THE SHELVES. But Alas, Panasonic is deliberately crippling MFT to make room for Full Frame 😔 P.S. It would also enable 8k recording which wouldve been amazing for a growing number of ppl including myself. P.S.S. Its not just Panasonic, Olympus, and Blackmagic have refused to implement better M43 Sensors. Even though the Tech has existed for a half a decade
I have heard Panasonic are releasing some new compacts soon, so we can only hope that's one of them. I've also heard there's at least 1 new M43 camera coming too.
You making this video is the reason I subscribed to you originally. I enjoy your candid and frank approach to the camera space. I think two things can also be true at the same time. I know this video is not in direct response to the one Gerald made, but what I mean is that I think there is validity and value to both standpoints. And I appreciate you sharing yours. People need to hear it and realize that at the end of the day, it’s a camera. So much of our current culture seems to run on online outrage, it can definitely get tiring. Keep doing what you’re doing my man.
I am confused. If I were looking for this type of camera in this price range, why would I not look at the Sony ZV line of cameras and avoid all the shortcomings?
@@TerryWarfieldFull frame doesn't matter, especially when vlogging. (Why are we hung up on the sensor size when most vlogging is done on phones) Plus if you are going for that just get a used a7c and call it a day. P.S. I'll take a competent crop camera over this anyday i.e. Sony Zv-E10 for $599 vs Panasonic S9 for $1500. Leaves room for lenses, mics and can do livestreaming and podasting to boot
Love it. Get your hands on the camera and it will change your minds. For me it’s also the most fun I’ve had with a camera in a long time as well. Sorry we didn’t get to meet at the event but glad to see your enjoyed the trip! Cheers 👊🏼
it's not that they're saying that the camera is not for them. they're saying that the reviews on the lumix s9 are so misleading that it's building a false hype and this is the case for a whole lot of other cameras that were overhyped, which drove the prices up
nah man, people are getting sick of being endlessly sold to. It's got nothing to do with the camera, Insta 360 is going through the same crap and it's all related and connected to the influener/brand relationship.
@boxofchocolates2362 you can't seriously compare a press trip to that insta360 nonsense. If you can't discern the difference between an ad and a first impression review, I guess that's a whole different issue.
@@Gadgetsjon the rules are very clear around this. If you receive ANY kick back at all it MUST be disclosed. How new are you to this? I've been griping about this since influencers popped up on youtube. Ad rules have been very clear for decades. A $7000 round trip to Japan needs to be disclosed in the first 30 seconds of a video or "paid advertising" needs to be clicked in the youtube publish section. The insta 360 is not the exact same issue as the Lumix one, but people are getting sick of being endlessly sold to and that's NOT on the audience.
@@boxofchocolates2362 I've been doing this job for 22 years. I'm not a UA-camr, I'm a journalist and I understand the laws around advertising. The trip[ to Japan wasn't in exchange for content. It was for the purposes of briefing media and giving us an opportunity to test out the camera, some people made content of the trip, some didn't. LUMIX didn't ask us to make any content, and it wasn't a condition of the invite. Regarding your second point: "People are sick of being sold to." Who are you accusing of selling you on a product? Because I've yet to see one piece of content about the S9 that hasn't been critical of its perceived flaws.
Camera UA-cam is strange. Stop idolizing UA-camrs, take the information they give and let aid your buying decisions. If you’re not buying the camera shut up and move on. Keep doing your thing bro!
This is a weird time in the creative space, i watched Gerald undones video not so long ago, and hearing you start the video off with the opening sequence really felt like there’s tension. Honestly I’m my God Honest Opinion, and this is no offense to any UA-camrs, Can we please go back to 2016-2018 filmmaking, where everybody would stop talking about specs and who’s the camera for, and just show us dope creations with that said camera, isn’t that what it should be all about as “Creators” seeing what each individual can create with that said piece of gear, real time use and showing us, the appropriate likes and dislikes in the field. Feels like everyone’s caught up in this Internet Influence day and age
Me, too. I just finished watching Gerald Undone and it feels like Terry is getting defensive with the disclaimers and full disclosures. Let's face it: the S9 is playing catch-up (from way behind) with the Sonys and the Fuji's.
They did for sure. I still think the good features are enough for ME to offset the bads. But if I didn’t have others cameras I’d probably feel differently. I tried my best to convey that in the video but ya know how people make narrratives regardless
Imagine if all these youtubers start using the camera they "love" so much. They will never get to the magical 20 minutes needed to monetize and make money!
This camera really addresses some real world use cases specially for travellers. Certainly not for pros but its main selling point would be people who travels who wants full frame quality in a compact size offering that allows easy integration and transfer of contents to there social media on the go. I myself just went to Japan last month with my mirrorless camera, took a lot of photos but I just couldn’t post these photos and videos at an instant during my travel. So I end up posting photos and videos taken from my mobile phone most of the time during my trip. Served its purpose. Just couldn’t do that with the images and videos taken from my mirrorless which needed a lot of time and effort just to post.
I’m amazed there is so much anger coming from some creators aimed at their subscribers. Gerald Undone is right. Camera marketing is all about payola and viewers are getting wise to it. Even the appearance of bought and paid for reviews is about to upset your applecart. Which manufacturer recently told creators it would be best if they didn’t disclose their review was sponsored? This isn’t about some stupid fucking camera, it’s about credibility. Telling folks that you took a ten thousand dollar trip, accepted some free merch but your opinions are your own strains credibility. How many folks are going to believe that? Swearing at your loyal followers ain’t going to fix what’s wrong right now.
Agreed, it's hilarious that a YT influencer is upset that consumers don't like a camera for its lack of features in 2024 lol and wants people to trust the recommendations that he is sharing. I love the ants nest that Gerald kicked over, as some viewers will start seeing these influencers for what they truly are... glorified Marketing Reps
Such an excellent review! Like so many other products, specs are specs, but how it fits your use scenario is what matters. Like other wise photographers have said; “the best camera is the one you use.” You had a great trip to Japan - I’m truly happy for you. Watched whole video. Kinda hard to watch. But after watching it I'm still not sure who is this camera for, except for Therry as his tertiary camera and some undefined tik-tockers (which prefer cellphones anyway). I'm really disappointed by S9 because what it is vs the rumors which were circulating for 2 weeks before anoucement. It was supposed to be new GM1/GM5 like camera and I was really pumped. But without mechanical shutter, lack of hot shoe and quite limited record times that price is just crazy. I guess I would prefer Sony ZV-E10 for 1/4 of the price. And looks like you can attack your subscribers, but if some attack you ... they you block them? 😅 Sounds like not the viewers are butthurt 😅😅😅
Dont worry, its for me. I mainly do livestreams and I heard there is no limit when recording externally through HDMI. This will replace my XT30. I also have a Scorp Mini so this will be light enough for that. I dont do flash, but a small Rode mic will do. Dont care much about the grip as it will be mounted most of the time. Im used to the XT30 so its not an issue for me. Im not gonna shoot weddings or long events. I just want a small full frame camera. I've had m4/3, APSC, and this s9 is affordable to me.

I just know with the group of family/friends and professionals around me, none are going to pick it up. But that's ok. The world is a big place :) great video man!
@@andersistbesser Of course there will be some shortcomings, the lack of stabilization is certainly annoying, but for the PRICE, it’s totally expected to be missing certain features. That being said, the S9 has TOO MANY shortcomings for the price. If this was $999, most wouldn’t be complaining. I was hoping this was going to be Panasonic’s “R8”. Guts of it’s bigger brother in a more limiting body. The R8 is literally an R6 Mark II in a smaller body: it has R62 sensor, 4k 60p oversampled FULL FRAME video, amazing dual pixel af, DIGITAL hotshoe, mic & HEADPHONE jacks, variangle screen, an EVF, NO recording limit , 40fps w/ a USABLE fast readout e-shutter (but still can also shoot 6fps w/ front curtain), can use a flash-all for $1200 right now. So yes, the r8 runs CIRCLES around the S9. And if you want it all: ibis, dual card slots, raw video, bigger battery, etc? You buy the r6 Mark II for $1000 more. There’s an actual GAP between the two, not a measly $300 that renders the S9 pointless.
Fun fact I am selling my Canon R8 with RF 35 f1.8 for Panasonic S9. I almost never take R8 with me as it's just not fun to shoot with. I prefer to shoot with my Fuji X-E4 due to the size and fun factor. S9 will serve me brilliantly for my needs which is travel, kids, landscape, street.
I had such a huge expectation about this camera that I was disappointed, but I think some people took it too far 😅 You’re too real and this video explains it all, that’s why I respect you and love your channel 👏🏾
Don't listen to the noise - keep doing what you're doing! I don't understand why people are so fired up either. It's a freakin' camera - if you don't like it, move on...
Grate video Terry. Personally, I find It's so funny that so many ppl bashing S9 while we are seeing X100 series and GRIII series are so popular, get out of stock, and become so expensive in the used market . (Dont' forget there are many ppl saying the panasonic GM1 as their best EDC) Those cameras are far from being perfect and do have major cons as a all-arounder, but they are praised so much for doing so great in their use cases. S9 is similar - consider this like a GRIII for videographers. As a photo-enthusiast myself I'm sad to see it does not have a mechanical shutter, but it's what it is. For some ppl who are upset - No need to say any freaking bad words to content creators because you don't understand the use case of the product.
@@rayriggz16 Sigma 17mm F4, 24mm F3.5, 45mm F2.8, 90mm F2.8 would make it reasonably compact. S9 has a FF sensor, even better IBIS, and interchangable lens mount. So apple-2-apple comparison does not make much sense imo. Hopefully L mount system get a proper pancake lens like Z mount system does soon - which would make the package more appealing too. Btw, I've been using an A7C as my daily camera for around 3 years, which is already fairly compact. However, S9 will make the package even smaller and provide much better video capability, and I do see the value. If I were a short-form video shooter and already had S5II as my main camera, I would seriously take S9 into consideration as a 2nd or 3rd camera.
You just became my favorite camera UA-camr. Keep it real! So, I had a S5II, and I loved it. I just sold it because I felt I couldn’t take it with me everywhere bc of its size. I move around a lot for work. I’m a barber, and I’m always traveling. I saw this S9 releasing, so I’m curious about it bc I’m sold on the entire Lumix line. I love it. Long story short, I’m looking for a camera that is easy to travel with, a camera that is both good for haircut photos and videos, and of course a camera that’s good for social media posts. Not just any social media posts, I’m looking for a camera that can shoot content that I can use vertically in 16:9 for social media, and also for UA-cam posts, in the same shot. Hope that makes sense. Would you recommend this for me? I’m not a pro shooter at all. I’m a barber that does content. Thank you brother. Love your work.
He's confused why people are butthurt over a hybrid that can't video without overheating and can't take photos without rolling shutter / LED lighting artifacts.
Not sure calling people who watch your video names is constructive. Sounds butt hurt. Also please think a bit deeper than all this controversy being over "just a camera". It's much deeper than that, I'm sure you're not obtuse enough to think this is really just "all over a camera". The camera space on youtube is your bread and butter dude, that's a very serious topic for you so how can you even attempt to say it's "just a camera". Especially when over 7 grand was dropped on you to fly/eat/have relations with your UA-cam AGENCY friends.
Love the rant. Nothing is perfect. I enjoyed seeing all the content creators out together. It gives us a sense of community. Viewers and content creators alike we are all here as a community with the same interests. - life is what you make of it-
People really shouldn’t be upset about creators going out on these trips to review new gear… we should aspire to reach the same level of influence! Besides id prefer if people I subscribe to and trust provide me their perspective on new gear! Don’t hate the players!!! 💪💯🗣️
Well the S9 is for me. A small channel creator, makIng shorter videos. 1080p is just fine for me. My Rode shotgun mikes don't use a hot shoe and I don't shoot flash. Constant studio lights or outside ambient. And an EVF is almost useless to me because I wear glasses outside. So, while I have used a viewfinder in the past, I don't anymore. Honestly the S9 might be too small for me. With big, shaky hands I actually prefer my S1 with the battery pack for still photography. But the S5II is my go-to for video and the S9 form factor would be great for travel, using my existing glass. I think Panasonic got this right for creators. Prolly get one at some point. Thanks for the review Terry.
I don’t feel that anyone has the right to criticize your trip. This is your job. It is a work trip. Should everyone’s work trips be open for public scrutiny? Perhaps if they’re paid by tax dollars: but in free industry and capitalism, it isn’t anyone’s damn business.
Definitely appreciate the honesty Terry. This is the first review I've seen for the S9 that has felt truly honest and not influenced by Panasonic, even though I will give all the creators the benefit of the doubt that there was not some special agreement with Panasonic. To elaborate on what I mean a bit more - and I'm happy to be proven wrong here - I think it was the conflagration of hype and overly jubilant reviews that gave the air of bias and influence in favor of Panasonic, over a product that on paper feels like an elevated vlog style camera akin to the Sony ZV-E1. And to go a bit further with that, thinking back on the release of the ZV-E1 and similar cameras, there was nowhere near as much hype and adulation. For me that's why this launch felt so off. I'm definitely biased here to some extent though, as I feel that in 2024 camera companies should not be releasing compact mirrorless cameras without EVFs. It simply should not be allowed. I feel the same way about fixed or limited articulation screens. And having to rig out a tiny little compact camera to get certain basic features which should be in there by default. There are some simple design choices that I cannot support in this day and age, even without using the product, and I will stick by that belief. Again though I am very appreciative for the honesty and if everyone who has tested this camera truly does love it, then that IS awesome!!
The weird thing with those recording limits is that even in the early copies reviewers have now, some have tested back to back 4k30 recordings and got to 5x 15 minutes before overheating. That begs the question, why isn't the 4k30 limit 45 minutes? The camera appears to be able to handle it fine.
I really think it was to not bring any more attention to the negatives. What if it overheated IN ADDITION to all the things they took out lol it would be condemned 😂😂. So I think it’s them choosing the safe bet
@@TerryWarfield It is starting to look like from better reviewer testing that there's no overheating risk at 30 minutes 4k30 and possibly no need at all for a HD record time limit for 1080p30 for example. I don't think it's all about being safe with thermals.
Guessing this isn’t due to Gerald’s video! I think it’s awesome that these brands bring you on these trips Terri, you deserve the opportunities. 🔥 What camera does this replace in your camera bag?
I agree, people are so sensitive these days, it’s crazy, things that are not for some, gets criticized, even tho they probably won’t even get the product because they can’t afford it or just because they have nothing to do, I could imagine that all of those people complaining are SO GOOD at the craft that they need a “perfect” camera, so go look for that perfect camera and stop whining about it, the S9 is great, I’m so looking forward to getting it and use it as my new travel cam along side my GX85. All cameras are great in the hands of those who know how to use them.
To me, it just looks like Panasonic's attempt at the Sony a7c. Of course you'll have to make some concessions with the smaller form factor and cheaper price. You'd be hard pressed to find a new full-frame camera at that price point. But like the a7c, as much as I like it, for just a few hundred more, you could get a better overall camera in the A7IV or the s5ii.
I have no any doubts that this Panasonic reelase is not gone work for street photographer. After 40 years of doing it on daily base this ain’t gone cut it.
If this was 900 dollars with the pancake lens, it would be the best-selling camera of 2024. It still looks like a great camera but just a tad bit pricey for its limitations and I'll be looking out for it on the used market in the near future.
I think $900 is too cheap in 2024. I mean it’s a full frame sensor & dont is charging like $2000 for a similar camera (zve1). I think $1500 w/ lens would be good
@@dominicgray2187 The issue is the F8 manual focus lens is pretty worthless to most content creators and to most people and the other issue is that the S5ii is only 300 dollars more. They're too close in price.
In today's episode of weird things that little boys on the internet cant stfu about lol. As someone not invested in this camera stuff, it's so fascinating to see how emotional people get over opinions. ESPECIALLY when Terry clearly explains himself. Truly interesting behavior. Either way, keep doing your thing, my guy.
I think fun cameras are making a comeback. People seem to think the x100vi is super popular because of the specs, most people who buy them aren’t professional / semi professionals. Most people buy it because it’s fun and looks pretty. Leicas are popular and command a high price because of the user experience. What casual photographer / videographer even uses a headphone out or even an HDMI out? Some cameras have a fun factor that you can’t quantify using a resolution chart. Interestingly all the reviewers of the S9, have said it was really fun to use, while also pointing out the missing specs. The s9 reminds me of the Honda S2000 car. A deeply flawed 2 seat rear wheel drive roadster, that isn’t a practical choice for most. But really powerful and amazing fun.
And the thing with this fun tiny camera is that it will take exceptional quality pictures and videos with fantastic IBIS and Panasonic have their autofocus sorted now. I do think the price could be too high but then again the pure quality of output will beat anything else at this size.
Thank You Gerald Undone! With no dog in this fight, I've had so much fun over the last three months, watching the nuclear fallout of his video...and to think, Camera YT Videos used to be so ....well...Uncontroversial lol.
You can't say this camera is made for social media to get your audience to set lower expectations and then in the next few minutes brag how it has 6k open gate or anamorphic. Seems like you're trying to find angles to boost its appeal. Kinda odd....
I like what you can do with the camera, the creativity aspect is very interesting. Customizable LUTs is very cool and it pushes Fuji and other brands to get better.
Hi, I’ve been watching you for what I consider a long time. Stop apologizing for what you do and how you do it. You are exceptionally good at what you do and it’s rather clear nobody is going to tell you what to say and how to say it.
The bigger issue is influencers can’t read the room and intakers are sheep. It’s in the name…”influencer”. Your job is to influence people to brands or cameras. The problem comes when intakers trust an influencer and every 6 months are being told a new camera is the latest and greatest. It is also that every intaker has a case of that G.A.S and thinks everything you guys review will make them better and is a need. Every camera release doesn’t need a hype video first and a true review months later. People don’t need to buy new camera every few months. People need to quit playing each other.
Bro, yall are adults. If all it takes is for someone to drop a video for you to go run to buy the next thing then it’s not me that’s the problem it’s you. As adults we should have a certain level of discernment of whether we need to run out and buy something or not
@@TerryWarfield sure, you are right, people should not depend on the people who have access to cameras that is a large purchase for most. That would put you right out of business. Not sure if you read all that first message but I put the blame on the intakers as well. You can’t sit here, talking about yourself in the 3rd and not pretend you don’t want to sell people stuff.
Terry, those trips are a fringe benefit of what you guys do. I would do the same but this camera is totally overpriced. The open gate full frame sensor is thee only worthy thing about this camera but even with that stated it is still way too expensive for its target user. The record limit is a complete joke in this day and age at any level of creator. Now if they priced it at around $999.00 I would completely change my argument but at $1800 USD I could never justify someone purchasing this over an FX30 or an IPhone 15 pro for that matter. In fact an IPhone 15 pro is a far better value for that type of content creation. Anyway, I appreciate your content bro so don’t take any offense. You are a breath of fresh air in this camera space. Take care.
Terry, long time subscriber here. Please try to understand and put pride aside. We get it that you have good inentions and feel you can't be bought. But you are saying Panasonic flew you to Japan, paid for flights, food, etc. While you are under no requiremnt to say anything I think it's obvious that if you were to trash the camera you would not be invited to events in the future. Otherwise why fly UA-camrs there in the first place? Wouldn't their money be better spent elsewhere if it has no effect? This is the problem people have. So when a UA-camr presents a view that doesn't make sense to what people want they are going to naturally think that their opinion is biased. This is not an affornt to your character this is simply human nature. You've admitted in the past that you simply love tech. So to you almost all technical advances, not matter how small or how much the price it seems more positive to you because you aren't really purchasing this tech. That doesn't really translate to a great review for people who are paying for this tech and are looking more at value. The Lumix S9 is a cool camera with some cool features. However it is NOT the camera that the majority of people wanted. So its not that its a bad camera, to most its that it symbolizes they aren't making what people really want. If there were two versions of the S9 no one would complain if one version didn't have what they wanted and the other did. Sony adressed this with the A7CII/A7CR. Had they only made one version then a lot of people would've been putt off. Some people clearly wanted more resolution but not everyone wanted to pay the price. The system and the way Panasonic wants to use influences to push their products is the problem not you. You are entering into a flawed system that is soley designed to sell stuff and no matter how good your intentions are you are facilitating that flawed system. Had you of gotten the Lumix S9 a month or two from now and given the exact same review there would've been less pushback. Obviously all companies due this but its clear the push back is coming because the response of the UA-camrs is so different that their viewers. And attackin the viewers is not really a good look. I've been a supporter for a while. I know you're struggles with the viewers and agree the size of your chanel should be bigger. But you've got to find a way to look past the negatives and focus on more good content. I come here for Tight Shirt Terry not Testy Terry. Much love brotha!
So much this. Excellent comment and points. I hope Terry realizes that he can say he's passionately always going to give his honest opinion and can't be bought but them paying for the trip already compromises an opinion. It's called conflict of interest. And one has cognitive dissonance if they can't clearly see this. They're using him as part of the advertising campaign. My opinion is make your bag just transparently disclose how the video is being made for ethical reasons and to uphold your integrity. Terry did this in his video which is great, but some creators didn't....
People try and support their view by saying that ‘the majority of people’ or ‘most people’. Have you counted? What group of people? Have you done a poll? You might as well say the majority of people (in my house, and that I’ve read UA-cam comments that I agree with) For example, it looks like lots of people on UA-cam would like a rangefinder style flagship Panasonic m4/3 or S camera. But historically cameras like the GX8 haven’t sold well, so perhaps what people say on UA-cam comments and on forums isn’t what the ‘majority’ of people actually want?
Isn't funny how on one hand, Paid photographers will yell to the High Mountains how Gear Doesn't matter, then the S9 comes along and that is the only thing that Matters.
Paid Photographers actually use their cameras, so lets take it from an actual photographers/videographers perspective. 1. I do Flash Photography for Fashion and Product shoots. Can't do that with this camera. 2. I like to record long sessions and interview normal people in locales such as airshows and events to get the local perspective. Can't do that with the record limits. 3. When I travel I like to take pictures at all hours of the day, which mean there will be sun shining right on the screen when I go to line up a shot of a Unique storefront or Local Sculpture (It never fails) but since it has no EVF so I'll be stuck fighting glare. 4. I like to hike and take a rugged camera along for bird, wildlife and landscape shots. Wouldnt trust this camera because of its non ergonomic grip and no water resistance making it terrible for hiking. 5. I like to Livestream and set up podcasts for personal and client work. Can't do that with this camera with is restrictive record limits and lack of livestreaming capabilities. 6. And lastly, there is a Local Wrestling League in the greater city that I like to go to and take stellar shots of the Wrestlers and the audience. But with no Mechanical shutter and poor Sensor performance under artificial lights I would have a hard time trying to get the banding out and rolling artifacts out of my shots. Not to mention the lack of flash capability making for those impromptu night life shots to be dark or I'll have to pump the ISO up to the sky and deal wirh the obnoxious amount of grain making most shots unusable. This camera is a One Trick pony and the trick isn't even that good since $600 camera like the Sony ZV-E10 is great for vlogging. And if you want LUTS in your travel camera just use a Third Party app on your phone, some First party apps like thenones from Xiaomi and Vivo has it built in with the ability to add your own.
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Don't need a long winded list, the fact reminds that paid photographers are very same folks that cry all day that GEAR doesn't matter. So maybe they should stop crying then.
Hi Terry, important video to emphasize your personal view in that dicussion that is heating up more and more. Do you have to return the camera and afterwards buy it for your use?
It's really easy to enjoy shooting with a $1500 camera and a couple lenses when you didn't have to pay for it. Now, if he had to pay for the camera I think he'd be butt hurt and have a different opinion than "it's just a camera"
I think what people are upset about is the missed potential of the S9. People wanted Panasonic’s version of a ZVE1, and this is not that. However, in real life I’m sure the S9 is perfectly usable and maybe even preferable as a travel/vlog/ compact camera to a slightly larger S5 ii. It very well could be worth considering if you’re in the L mount ecosystem and need a little B or C cam.
So here's the thing .. me trying to budget for the S5IIX (my dream camera for what I do) is hard. My channel just isn't there yet, and I am not offering services right now (on the horizon). But I do shoot both photos and video a lot. Pretty much everyday. I just picked up a vintage film camera as well. Anyway let's discuss: The shoe - every day no big deal. I haven't used a flash gun in about 10+ years. As far as audio, yeah would be nice for a digital mic - but truthfully how often are we really caring audio on an everyday basis. If so, rode/ dji/ Sennheiser and others offer wireless that will plug into the 3.5 port. 90% of the time the environment is just to noisy to use the audio (unless your like me in the woods alot). My solution would be to attach a zoom recorder. Audio backup that is clear, plus a feed to the camera to sync later. Or if your a vlogger, rode still has some good mics that plug into the 3.5. Headphone - truthfully the only time I use headphones is when I'm editing or doing something where audio precision is necessary (band / music, interview). I've yet to run into anyone vlogging, capturing memories, etc wearing headphones. EVF - 80% of cameras dropped this feature. If you wear glasses, they can be a pain. If ytour worried about an EVF, I am sure you can find a Hoodman that'll fit. Your phone has no EVF. how often do you capture with your phone? Record limit - on fence. 90% of the time, my clips are 3 minutes (if I'm talking) or less. B-roll 8-30 seconds. This camera is not aimed to be a studio or desk setup camera. Stabilization - with the exception of my GoPro, none of my cameras have it. And so far no one has matched GoPro's level. We can work around it. Grip - well seems they partnered with smallrig, and there will be cages and grips coming out. Your phone is flat. I don't see many with grip attrachments on their phones. What I don't see in these videos: Audio meter? Would be nice to see if I am peaking or too low for whenever I do use a mic. Luts - preview or can I bake it into the video. Auto focus - was it pre the new firmware or was it the new firmware. Don't seem to see anyone mention video autofocus. With all that... The S9 would be a great upgrade to my first gen 2019 zv-1 that I totally rigged out with a cage, top handle, light, mic, monitor, etc for shooting studio work (but I kinda miss how small it used to be for my outdoor adventures). The S9 would be an everyday camera. Cause even my Nikon D3100 draws too much attention at times. If I had to choose just one for everything the S5IIX with new firmware hands down. If I had the funds - both the S9 and the S5IIX easier to color grade if both had the same profile / luts. Right now I have to edit every clip. If I don't get into client work (lot to think about right now) - I might look at the S9. One more thing about the time limit - I have a feeling that if it becomes a major sticking point, they may just have a firmware update to turn off the limit if desired. I had 2 cameras with time limits and I just kept recording and leaving the camera on for 1hr before it shutdown or stopped recording. This was true if my little Nikon contact camera I used to have.
Man working around the roadblocks and figuring out how to make the camera work for your use case is part of the fun! My A cam is a Sony a1 and I have as much or more fun shooting with the Zv-e1 because on my A1 I have the availability at the press of a button to change settings. With the zv-e1 I have to think a bit more about what I’m doing because there aren’t all of the dials and custom function buttons .
I learned about filmmaking by working around the limitations of the original Pocket Cinema Camera. This camera is a dream compared to that camera and I predict that once the ruffled feathers settle this camera will become a cinema workhorse for those who need a low-cost solution.
Seems like a great camera for a niche market. Similar to Fuji-film and even the Sony ZV-E1. The tension in the creator space right now is kinda weird. I think most people with common sense can understand first look videos at press conferences are just that. First look. Not actual reviews. The fact that creators get the opportunity to see these cameras when they’re announced, I think is awesome. However they review the camera is up to them and their opinion. Ultimately us as consumers can determine whether or not this is the right camera for us. Now, for me, this is a companion camera to my S5IIX. I love the portability, form factor and the identical image to my S5IIX. It’s like the FX3/A7SIII/ZV-E1 line up. At the end of the day, buy the camera if you like it. No UA-camr or creator should influence that.
You got it right. A miniature S5 ii for video, in the market space of the ZV E1 and E10 and the Sigma fp. It actually has more video capability right now than the S5 ii even with the latest firmware.
I agree with everything you said, Terry. I ordered the S9 on Saturday as a 2nd camera to my Canon 6D2. The 6D2 is big and only shoots 1080p vids. The S9 will be my travel cam that shoots great 4K footage. Also, I really don't shoot professionally, so I can care less about the things the S9 lacks. I could have easily bought an S5ii, but I'd have another big camera that I would not want to travel with.

Missing hot shoe makes this a led light camera for video, and photo, for people who don't use strobes anyways....it's gen z totally 😂 can't wrap our heads arround that, can we? 😂😂😂😂
For $200 more I would get the s5ii. I got my s5iix B cam for $1600. I’d get the S9 if it was closer to $1k. Was looking for a replacement for my Ricoh GRIII that let me change lenses.
Might ruffle some feathers about this. Im going to speak my peace about it and move on and get back to doing what i do best!

Did he talk about the ridiculous 15min record limit on a so called "creator" camera?
Just curious, how many videos on TikTok, Instagram on UA-cam shorts, etc. do see that would probably require clips longer than 10 minutes?

Totally off topic, but panasonic needs to make an LX100 mark3
I totally agree
Unfortunately Panasonic is depreciating the M43 line. Its not from lack of interest. For instance we had a 50mp MFT Sensor available on the market since Late 2018-2019 but Panasonic stated they werent interested. You know how many wildlife photographers would KILL for a small travel MFT camera with killer telephoto and cropping capabilities, coupled with the super 7.5 stop IBIS that camera would FLY OF THE SHELVES. But Alas, Panasonic is deliberately crippling MFT to make room for Full Frame 😔
P.S. It would also enable 8k recording which wouldve been amazing for a growing number of ppl including myself.
P.S.S. Its not just Panasonic, Olympus, and Blackmagic have refused to implement better M43 Sensors. Even though the Tech has existed for a half a decade
Micro 43rd is dead bro
Leica just did…. The D-LUX 8….
I have heard Panasonic are releasing some new compacts soon, so we can only hope that's one of them. I've also heard there's at least 1 new M43 camera coming too.

Such an excellent review! Like so many other products, specs are specs, but how it fits your use scenario is what matters. Like other wise photographers have said; “the best camera is the one you use.” You had a great trip to Japan - I’m truly happy for you. You came back and still still speak you mind and give us your camera truth - I’m truly happy for US! Much respect to you. Have a great holiday weekend. All the best to you. Your local fan, Bob
You always keep it real Terry happy to call you my friend. As always dude keep crushing brother.
Cratr Crew represent. I love how you all comment support on each others videos. Maybe you guys should disclose those relationships. Space Station was bad enough, you guys are right there behind them.
Sounds like not the viewers are butthurt 😅😅😅
Dont worry, its for me.
I mainly do livestreams and I heard there is no limit when recording externally through HDMI. This will replace my XT30. I also have a Scorp Mini so this will be light enough for that. I dont do flash, but a small Rode mic will do. Dont care much about the grip as it will be mounted most of the time. Im used to the XT30 so its not an issue for me.
Im not gonna shoot weddings or long events. I just want a small full frame camera. I've had m4/3, APSC, and this s9 is affordable to me.
4:37 this!!! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 'Nobody asked for this!' 'Nobody wants this!' People saying this expecting the millions of people with different desires and needs to be exactly like them.
This was amazing! I love how you didn't hold back haha
I still stand by a tweet I made saying that I am confused about their target audience but I hope for their sake that youre right about it flying off the shelf.
I just know with the group of family/friends and professionals around me, none are going to pick it up. But that's ok. The world is a big place :) great video man!
6:58 No, there’s the canon r8, which runs circles around this camera and it’s also $1500 (onsale now for $1200). It actually offers MORE for LESS…
World's best stabilisation vs none?
I disagree with this take but fair opinion
Haha the canon has no ibis, bad battery life, no luts , no open gate… if anything the lumix runs circles around the canon
I had such a huge expectation about this camera that I was disappointed, but I think some people took it too far 😅

@thisistomorrow3293 just say you are jealous
Great video dude. More cameras options, the better it benefits all of us
My guy 🫡🫡
X100 and gr Ricoh cameras have f2.0 and f2.8 lenses. What lens would you put on the S9 to make it as pocketable as those cameras.
He said it's "heavily flawed but it's AMAZING". LMAO
Yeah I sure did
You just became my favorite camera UA-camr.
Yeah, its honestly not a hard concept
Love the honesty in this one about what's going on in the review world on UA-cam. Great stuff

It sounds like you had a great time and this camera was a fun thing that got you to do things that you might not have without it. I like this idea.
People really shouldn’t be upset about creators going out on these trips to review new gear… we should aspire to reach the same level of influence! Besides id prefer if people I subscribe to and trust provide me their perspective on new gear! Don’t hate the players!!! 💪💯🗣️
Thank you Terry for a truly honest take on WHO this camera is targeted to!
Im getting one because as a Lumix user I know what it is and I know what to use it for. Let the haters hate.
Thank you for creating this video. It is terrific.
What camera does this replace in your camera bag?
Terry Shillfield bowing down to the Lumix god... JK, solid video brother. Not the camera for me, but I can see why it's here.
I follow you because #1 How REAL you are. #2 Your content is A1. Keep up the great work bro. Stay Real !!!!
So how does it compare to a phone in the same price range?
I have no any doubts that this Panasonic reelase is not gone work for street photographer. After 40 years of doing it on daily base this ain’t gone cut it.
Well said bro! It's your job as long as you're honest it doesn't matter.
does this camera offer phase detect auto focus in HD 120 fps slowmo?
If this was 900 dollars with the pancake lens, it would be the best-selling camera of 2024. It still looks like a great camera but just a tad bit pricey for its limitations and I'll be looking out for it on the used market in the near future.
yep
I think $900 is too cheap in 2024. I mean it’s a full frame sensor & dont is charging like $2000 for a similar camera (zve1). I think $1500 w/ lens would be good
@@dominicgray2187 The issue is the F8 manual focus lens is pretty worthless to most content creators and to most people and the other issue is that the S5ii is only 300 dollars more. They're too close in price.
One thing you didn't mention is the lenses. There's not really great small size lenses right now. The 26mm f/8 manual focus lens is not it.
In today's episode of weird things that little boys on the internet cant stfu about lol. @@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Cool story bro
Truly spoken, Terry!
i want to see this camera challenge companies to make fun cameras again. I dont always need a swiss army knife.
Heck ya! More real talk! So glad something finally broke and we can finally have real talk! Preach!!!
You can't say this camera is made for social media to get your audience to set lower expectations and then in the next few minutes brag how it has 6k open gate or anamorphic. Seems like you're trying to find angles to boost its appeal. Kinda odd....
I sure can say whatever I feel like. We have differences of opinion and neither is more valid than the other
I like what you can do with the camera, the creativity aspect is very interesting.
A secondhand S5ii is the way to go.
Take care.
I’m totally cool with differences of opinion! I respect yours
Much love brotha!
man, then scratch every single camera release in the last two years...
@@chcomes Exactly. The camera industry is ripe with payola. Let the buyer beware.
You might as well say the majority of people (in my house, and that I’ve read UA-cam comments that I agree with)
For example, it looks like lots of people on UA-cam would like a rangefinder style flagship Panasonic m4/3 or S camera.
@@natureredux1957But I am a paid Photographer and I'm not crying about gear all day. My mere existence proves your statement invalid
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Well it doesn't. But if that makes you feel good, go with that.
It sure is … add videographers to that too
Hi Terry, important video to emphasize your personal view in that dicussion that is heating up more and more.
Anyway let's discuss:
The shoe - every day no big deal.
What I don't see in these videos:
Audio meter?
As we say in the motorcycle community - you can't ride a spec sheet. I love my S5ii's, and would still love to try this camera. Well said, Terry.
Man working around the roadblocks and figuring out how to make the camera work for your use case is part of the fun!
My A cam is a Sony a1 and I have as much or more fun shooting with the Zv-e1 because on my A1 I have the availability at the press of a button to change settings. With the zv-e1 I have to think a bit more about what I’m doing because there aren’t all of the dials and custom function buttons.
That being said, I reach for my A1 when I am shooting professionally because of its ease of use which is exactly what you’re saying here… I don’t get the shade…
