What she has is more than her teachers. Luminosity, talent, creativity and attitude. Any good teacher would happily be proud to acknowledge that about students who are destined to excel them.

Nina you are simply wonderful !!!
I appreciate strongly your viedo and performances.
I would really to know who are the idiots that clicked over "not like" ... How could not like this fascinating Woman that's playing wonderfully flute and a virtuisist piece as the one here of Telemann!
If it's not your type of music: leave the site but don't click on "not like". Respect who is working!

I share your position in imperfection (as a "recovering perfectionist" I've become almost passionate about being imperfect!). Raw music, unedited, has such a natural beauty versus the gorgeous but synthetic music that is so pervasive in our culture. Thanks!

So I've been playing flute for..9 years? I have never been able to double tongue, not that I've spent an incredible effort trying, but I watched one of her videos and tried it..amazing how fast it's starting to work! I'm impressed by all of her solo stuff so far as well. Big kudos and thanks. :)

    Hi Nina,
Thanks for watching my videos and your comments are very encouraging. I love music and am lucky to have worked with some great musicians this year in UCC (University College Cork, Ireland) I have responded here with a video of a Telemann cantata. Your flute playing is a pleasure to watch - Best Wishes.

Hey Nina Perlov. You inspired me to not quit the flute. I remember seeing this video for the first time in 2008 and being moved by this song. It's stayed with me, and 3 years after high school I'm still playing the flute. Thank you for playing so well and sharing it on UA-cam. That was so cool when you went on here with the beatboxing flute guy!

Beautiful performance yet again Nina. Your playing is really something to be admired. I got my grade 8 and diploma back at college, yet was never as confident in my playing as you so obviously are. Lovely rendition of a cracking bit of Telemann... I always did love his stuff for woodwind!

I am a clarinetist myself (well, I former one) and I totally understand what you mean. I have heard some slight clarinet vibratos, though, but I can not remember any references. Vibrato in oboe, clarinet and saxophone (but specially in clarinet), are very hard to achieve and control!

I took private lessons for years before I began marching band. As a solo or concert flautist, I was still taught the "proper" posture. I used to get yelled at when I didn't stand straight. So, I had to learn to create a good tone that way and never learned any other way.

hi Nina.. you´re absolut right that the tempi is a matter of taste.. but rampal is famous for his very fast tempi´s specially on baroque music.. that is what aurele nicolet told us at a masterclass... but that olour of your tune is for me a little bit too much for Telemann... but you play really really good and i love your d minor .. that is really awsome !!!

Funny thing about the Telemann...it doesn't LOOK that difficult on the page, but to play it right takes a lot of work. The hardest part about these Fantasies is figuring out where you want to breathe, and where you think the melody goes ie where to stress certain notes, and being careful NOT to stress them in places that break the motion of the piece. Maybe Nina will record a CD of these someday. Her Telemann is much better than some I've heard on Itunes, that's for sure.

  • @ericoschmitt

@lizzierocks114 theres no easy or hard instrument, it depends on what you want to do with it. but if you refer to fingering, its one of the easiest blow instrument, cuz if you close all your fingers it makes a C, if you open one by one you get D E F G A B C, very linear, and change octave on the mouth. Blowing it is like blowing a glass bottle(beer bottle). the sharps and flat notes have extra keys for them, that makes scales out of C major or A minor a little different(like black keys on piano)

  • @jrbrook76
    @jrbrook76 17 років тому

We all have to play with a posture that works for us. You should see Fenwick Smith play...practically hunched over sideways, but has one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard. What might be a suitable posture for you might be damaging to the wrists and arms of someone else, or may need to be in a different position based on the way our mouth/teeth/lips are shaped so we can direct the air better. If you're a marching band flutist, I can see why you would say something like that.

  • @PridefulPassion

@ericoschmitt I can play with the mouthpiece upside down too :) One day when my high school band was playing at a basketball game I declared it "play your flute upside down day" and we all played like that for most of the game. We probably sounded terrible, but it was so much fun! ahhhh, good memories :)
