Usually I cannot enjoy metal flute together with strings, especially in Baroque music.
But in this Telemann concert Pahut plays his instrument (a common Boehm-System
flute made from gold in high quality) so different, dynamic, warm, tender, and
when bright not too dominant. He enriches the slow movements with brilliant subtle
ornaments, even well adapted to the strings, so that I'm really charmed. The whole orchestra is styling very well.

Such an exquisite rendition (sighs), thanks for sharing this Video !
Emmanuel Pahud never disappoints me, though he's not playing in an original instrument, his interpretation of Telemann's Concerto in G is so tender that he undoubtedly confirms us he's among the best flautists in the history of music.

You've noticed Telemann's influence on Bach, but listen to this passage from 7:23 to 7:30. This is the music of ENNIO MORRICONE the man with the harmonica

Worth noting that the Opening>Andante of this ravishing Flute/Oboe Concerto was taken/slightly modified by JSBach for his famous Keyboard Work in f-minor!! BWV1056/2= (156/1) Also for quite some time this Work was considered without Bass Part, yet enough of it survives to make a good editorial reconstruction(Severinus Press SUTE95 of 1998!) Back to this Performance Emmanuel P & the Berliners give a very fine rendition in this Japanese Concert! He was the very First to record this Piece(Reconstructed) and I was luck to get a signed copy!☺

It´s true... I cannot hide my first thought: Oh my God that is classic example of stealing. But perhaps Telemann wanted in a modern way demonstrate his love for music of Bach, by putting one of his beloved melodies in his concerts.

"Slightly modified" is a huge understatement. There is actually very little Bach's and Telemann's version have in common, apart from the first 2 bars. Form, harmony progression and melodic contour are simply way apart. In fact, it is a perfect example of what a genius can make out of a good idea, as opposed to a fine craftsman. Bach has a very clear sense of form, balance, direction and melodical expression, while Telemann moves around using forumulae of the emerging galant style.

Thank you so much for posting this excellent filming.

+Paul Jacobs and Barbara Logen It is the other way around. This concerto was composed 1716 and surely is one of the earliest solo concertos by any german composer, so impressed Telemanns friend JS Bach that he modelled the second movement of BWV 1056 on its opening andante.

Please look what I have posted today. It is mainly not the instrument but the skill to play
it, which makes the difference within the modern Boehm flutes. But there is a real difference in the coulor of sound between the wooden flute of Baroque, the wooden flute of early 19th century, and the Boehm-System flutes. Sincerely Dietrich
