    When I feel dysphoria because of my school uniform (girls need to wear skirts) I would just look in the mirror and say "MAN, CHILL NOT EVERYONE GET THE CHANCE TO CROSSDRESS!"
    It made me slightly happy most of the times. :')

      I’m on the non-binary spectrum and I sometimes wear my binder under my one piece jumpsuit, and the suit has spaghetti straps with a v-neck, so when I wear it like that, it just feels very stylish, like I’m a stylish enby.
      Also, I bought some new summer stuff recently, including a red bikini top, a pair of men’s swim trunks with a striped sunset color scheme on it, and a short sleeve summery yellow button up shirt. I layered it all together and looked in the mirror today, and…..wow. That was the first time I ever thought I looked hot. EVER. It made me soooo happy! I'm a happy enby ready for summer! 😁😁😁

My advise though, if you are going through something similar that is , too get a gender counselor (admittedly this might be hard considering the current state of everything atm) . Also possibly just take it one step at a time, talk to your friends about it maybe even a relative (I understand though if you don't feel you can). Honestly theres no timer on these things its gunna be confusing for a while but eventually everything will turn out alright. 👍🏻 i wish you best of luck 😁

    I definitely find black, dark grey, or bold colours like green or red to work best for binding. Even if the skin colour ones match your skin perfectly (which is unlikely), there's still the fact that the fabric is a different texture and sheen than human skin, so they will never be invisible. If you've got a black/grey/red/whatever full tank, it just looks like you're wearing a singlet (undershirt/tank top/whatever it's called where you're from) under your clothes - Which helps with the inevitable lines they leave as well. Hide it in plain sight =D

    • @bryntendo
      @bryntendo 6 років тому +14

      Waffle _ Yeah I get what you mean, but in my experience the skin colour ones are way more noticeable. I work in a pretty hypermasculine field and am cis passing, it's always awkward when people notice the straps or top of the chest hem under my uniform when it's a skin tone one; but no one thinks twice when it's black or grey. I wear full tanks so it doesn't look like I'm wearing a sports bra, even under t-shirts or business shirts. Nude colours will still be noticeable and leave lines, but at least if it's a full tank it won't look like a bra. Grey or white works fine too, just skin colours make it obvious it's 'not supposed to be seen'. You can still see them, white blends better under white shirts than nude colours, and in general t-shirts + binders aren't the greatest mix. Maybe a dark shirt, white is unfortunately a bad option if you want to hide a binder.

    To all: Trying to get hormones on the NHS is disgustingly slow. The GIC believes it’s fine, because most people get the relief from simply coming out not the hormones. IF you cannot wait 2 years for hormones on the NHS (yes, it likely takes that long if not longer), I recommend getting the ball rolling with a private clinic and setting up a shared care agreement with your GP so that you can have the injections administered locally and at no cost. I instigated that NHS GIC referral in August 2016, had the initial appointment in June 2017 (they had a cancellation) and the second appointment is Feb 2018! Be warned, you will need to divulge how you know you’re trans, stories from your childhood and your teens over and over and over and over. BUT, hang in there.

    For getting T in the US, Planned Parenthood has expanded their HRT services to more locations in the past few months. I don't think it's offered at every clinic, but the chances that there's one in your area are much better now. They use the informed consent model, so as long as you understand the risks and your bloodwork comes out ok, there aren't any hoops to jump through. For me it was 2 weeks from making the first appointment to doing my first shot. They also will do sliding fee scale if you need it or don't have insurance or whatever.

      A man with long hair is generally assumed to be secure in his masculinity. If your face, figure, and clothes pass, your hair shouldn't be a problem.

      @Fitzroyfallz Рік тому

      If you’ve got other things like masculine clothing/binder etc I think it works. Lots of men like having long hair too! Facial hair (minoxidil hair growth cream can help with it) is a good way of passing too

    Binding is so insanely frustrating for me, I know the 'better' way to put them on is to pull them up but I also have really wide hips, way wider than my shoulders. FML as a chubby trans person uughghhgh
    Thank you for this! You brought up a lot of small things that I never really thought of myself. I'd like to personally vouch for menstrual cups being the Best Thing Ever if you're fine with them - I can't ever go back to disposable stuff. And THANK YOU for mentioning the needles, I am absolutely terrified of them and that is something I was _massively_ worried about.

      To me, I feel the easiest way to wear it, is to make sure my skin is completely dry, and I wear it slightly rolled up, and pull it over my head.
      Aft it’s reaches a level that’s...on top of my chest, I roll it back down!

    • @alexanderrosen4610
      @alexanderrosen4610 7 років тому

      I remember stuck halfway in the bathroom in the beginning.... I always go head first, and it will become a mess that all rolled together. Then I search for the bottom part of the binder (require certain level flexibility of course), pull the side out bit by bit, in the end you basically pull the binder out.
      Save as taking it out, I rolled it bit by bit. Once I get my head out, it just fall off.

      @@somekindofperson9766 hey dude, I totally get what you feel like, but PLEASE take a break. Even if you don't feel it, a binder can deform your ribs and will make top surgery either ridiculously difficult or in bad cases impossible. ESPECIALLY with self-made ones. For showering, I suggest showering in the dark, so you don't have to see your body, and making it a race (i.e. how fast can I possibly shower) because you'll think about something else.
      Take care dude and stay safe!

    • @beanvillus
      @beanvillus 3 роки тому +3

      @@somekindofperson9766 You could try and wear a baggy t-shirt or something when showering so you don't have to look at your body. It will impede showering a bit, but at least you don't see yoursef, if that makes you feel bad.
      And please, take it off while you sleep. It's so important. It's just that, a binder squeezes your chest together, and it's a little bit harder to breathe in it than without, that's why it is so important to take it off after 8 hours. If you sleep in it, you could (in the worst case) pass out from a lack of oxygen and now one would notice. You could really hurt yourself.
      I know it's hard, but please, take care of your body. You do no one a favour if you don't.

    For shark week: certain birth controls can completely or at the very least make it a lot lighter. One example is the IUD, the process of getting it and taking it out is uncomfortable, but the in-between times with no blood are great. Typically periods stop altogether after about 6 months and after 3 get notably lighter. I recommend this for anyone under the age of 18 because they are free at planned parenthood (w or without insurance) and you don't need parental consent!! It is painful to get inserted and when it needs to come out but other than that you can honestly just forget about it

      Tristan Bartholdi I felt like that too. I didn't know how to ask for that stuff. I would start by just bringing up the conversation of t. Don't say you want t at first just mention that t is an option. For binders you sorta have to toughen up and just ask. Say your chest makes you uncomfortable and that a binder will make you more comfortable. Definitely don't mention the health risks. I would definitely ask about binders before you ask about t and top surgery. Baby steps are still steps. What I told myself is i came out I can be brave enough to bring up these kinds of conversations.

    I came out as genderqueer a month before i came out as trans. It was definitely a faster process than i thought it would be. But, coming out as genderqueer/nb first gave me the confidence and comfort to explore how i really felt, and it didnt take long for me personally to realize that im actually a guy. It was very relieving to be able to start my transition in this way, but i still struggle daily with many things that have to do with transitioning(mostly being impatient). And already having depression makes my thoughts and feeling difficult to process. Watching your videos has really helped me in seeing that i will get past these awkward moments and i will have more awkward moments to accept as they come. The fact that I've found videos like this is really helping me look forward to the process of transitioning and being my true self :)

    Hey Jamie so the maximum time you can wear a binder for in one 'session' is 8 hours but how much time should you wait to wear a binder again?

    • @legoduckie
      @legoduckie 7 років тому +25

      8 hours per day is the timeframe that most people use. I’d recommend taking days off if you can, like weekends or just whenever you can bear to. The timeframe can change from person to person though. My partner has asthma and a slightly fucked up back, so they can only wear theirs for about 4-6 hours at a time and they don’t wear it very often or else they have a hard time breathing. If I wear mine for too many days in a row, my sternum and ribs start to ache.
      Tldr; 8 hours/day, but pay attention to what your body says because it’ll tell you if you start to fuck it up.

    For periods, TomboyX has period boxer briefs/trunks with a floating gusset that you can attach pads to. A pair of these + reusable pads was a life changer for me!

    love your videos, pls do a life hack video on clothes. I am of pre-everything and very short in height, only 5 feet. It's very difficult to find shoes and denim and shirts from men's section, especially shoes.

      Have you tried teen sections? H&M have great stuff that aren’t too young, great for basics to build your wardrobe. Obviously you wrote this a year ago so this may have changed for you!

      You can probably find shoes and clothes that fit in the boy's section. Plus, no sales tax.

    I started talking to friends about it like. First day I started thinking about it and they were all like “Yeah. You’re not cis” and I was kinda like “Oh. Okay then” I did have a few hateful people though, which I got rid of from my life immediately. My friends are great. Haha

    I generally pass, but the depression of seeing the boys I grew up with become taller than me, gain facial hair and a deep voice, it's alway a reminder that I'll always be transgender. I'll never be a real boy. My mum is sweet but she doesn't know that her words have an effect on me, she calls me beautiful, says she likes my hourglass shape, and it should be a compliment but instead it embeds all my insecurities and confirms my self doubt. I'm so lonely, my friends don't understand, my family doesn't understand, I don't trust anyone enough to share how I really feel. I feel like a stranger to myself

    Late to this video but you're videos are always so random and so hyper. I kinda see myself as you in the future and it makes me happy considering the fact that I am completely unsupported by my family and friends. I see myself in you because I am energetic most the time and I'm told that I'm so random that nobody can predict me. (you're random cause you just throw random things in the video like the slippers because your feet are cold) Also I like really love your videos!

    in terms of binding, there is such a thing as transtape, which is supposed to be safe and less restrictive than binders.
    in terms of T, in the USA, planned parenthood is a great option, if there is not a HRT doctor near you, you can see someone through telehealth, and after informed consent and one blood test, you get a prescription.

    I know this is super late, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for the velcro hack.
    I have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, so my shoulders, neck, and back are often very painful. I sometimes need help getting into and out of tight or compressive tops / sports bras / swim togs / etc., because my shoulders don't work right. I've got a whole stack of tight sports bras in the back of my drawer that I can't really wear anymore because of it, but now I'll get to wear them again, and adding velcro is gonna save me SO MUCH PAIN!
    Thank you!!!

      Having spoken to my better half, who is also much more accomplished and experienced with sewing, they suggest a zipper or buttons may be better than velcro, just due to longevity. Velcro will wear out and lose its... cohesion (if that's the right word?) faster, which is why it is used less often in clothing than buttons and zips. And, it shouldn't be too complicated to add that little panel of fabric to protect your skin from a zip, either.

    For those who need changing rooms for activities, Im in dance class and I feel the struggle!! Although there is a boys changeroom in the studio I can go to since I'm one of the only guys in the class, Before transitioning I would just have my dance clothes/uniform under my outfit ready to go and I'd rush to the gender neutral washrooms to change after. That is assuming your studio or school has gender neutral washrooms tho

    I have never even thought about there not being trash cans in men’s bathroom stalls... do cis boys not... throw things away???

    • @lynn858
      @lynn858 3 роки тому

      There aren’t disposal boxes in the stalls, but, there -might- be a trash can outside the stalls - but only if they have paper towels. Even then it could be a large open can, and if there’s someone washing their hands when you come out of the stall holding something… could be awkward.
      If they have hand dryers and no paper towels, there may not be -any- kind of trash receptacle. The majority of trash people generate in public is food related, and (hopefully) you’re not eating food in the washroom then needing a place to put the wrapper when you’re done.
