- This is a full independent review of the Pevex Serenity range, we test the stoves real world performance in:
Clean glass
Fuel economy
Ease of lighting
And controlling
I also give my views and a bit of background information. The videos are designed to be quick with only the "must know" information, they are independent and I'm not paid to make them.
If you would like any further information please feel free to drop me a comment or you can check out the manufacturers page here:

looks a bit like the Arada insert i just fitted , i just got a pair of Gauntlets with that , not a helping Hand like that has 😁
Many thanks for this very helpful review, and your other videos - a great resource. After a long wait(!) we have had a Pevex Serenity 40 installed to replace an open fire. As novice stove users we can confirm your review that it is indeed easy to light and to use. Regarding the glass clouding you mention in your review, are there any tips for minimising this while achieving reasonable efficiency/run-time? Thanks again, Iain
The hotter the stove is run the cleaner it will stay, but generally if the stove is lit you don’t notice the clouding. I think it is generally just part of this and lots of other stoves, but not all of them. I’m still trying to work out what the contributing factors are, but my feeling is that it has to do with efficiency figures. Generally stoves over 80% struggle with this and get steadily worse the higher it gets, stoves under 80% generally don’t have a clouding issue. I am generalising though.
@@TheTortoise Thanks for this which is interesting. First day of running it was spotless but second day was getting more clouding, but not a major issue as you say. For information, Pevex seem to have modifed the tool since your review - it is now only for removing the ash pan i.e. there is nothing on it to adjust the controls.
@@user-ci3hd2lj9h I think that’s probably better, the control adjusting was never great with the tool, easier with the gloves!
Great! I couldn't find a review on the efficiency of an indoor rocket stove in your channel. It would be great if you did one!
Do you know an example product? Most of these are home made or not for indoor use.
can you review a Penman Savona inset
I’ll have to have a look at one!
Please do a review on castec couger inset multi fuel .
I haven’t spoken to them, I’ll give them a shout.
Excellent videos, I have a stovax View T5. Will you be doing a review at some point on this stove
I do want to try out a vogue or a view. When I get a chance I certainly will.
Your reviews are great. One question I have is how do you fit and test all of these, are they in your own home?
Mostly I fit them at home, but I have a big family who almost all have a stove or some link to stoves so there is always access an out building with a stove or some other iteration of stove related product.
We’ll grow out of it one day, hopefully 🤞 😆
You mention a couple of times that it's really controllable, but only 7/10.
What else would you expect to see to raise this to 10/10 ?
It has reasonable control, but you can definitely achieve greater degrees of control. This is also about the controls themselves which could be nicer finished and open and close more easily.
Im considering an inset stove, an ACR tenbury t400 as i have quite a narrow standard fireplace opening and it cannot be widened. My question is how well do these work, im nog looking at heating the whole house just combined frontroom and attached diningroom. Seen many reviews saying inset do not work.
Insets work fine if you understand what you’re getting. An inset stove that is tested as 5kw, will probably run at between 3-4 when it is installed (as they are tested in a room rather than in a fireplace), so in your case you’ve got 2 rooms to heat, but this stove will have to work hard to heat 1.
For people who don’t use other stoves this may not be a disaster because whatever they have is exciting and gives some heat, but a Tenbury is very unlikely to heat that area. It will however use lots of fuel if you attempt to, so I would be buying it as a back up and focal point. Or buying a much larger inset, but requires the building work you’re trying to avoid. The final idea is to fit a freestanding stove infront of the fireplace, block the fireplace and run the flue into the chimney breast. This would swallow a lot of space, but would give you a much more functional solution.
@TheTortoise ok thank you for your reply. I calculated the heat required for both front room and dining are as being one room due a big opening into the dining room. The calculation for heat required worked out at 3.57kw. I'm in a dilemma as I always realised the inset would not provide the heat output as a freestanding but then I like the aesthetics of the inset over the freestanding stove. But also read others with inset stove get virtually no heat from them which I find odd. But I agree I would not expect the inset to push as much heat as an equivalent 5kw freestanding. Dilemma or what
@@pwynn14 it may be worth watching my video on working out outputs, because online calculations miss out a lot of aspects of the calculation and the information they find can be unhelpful. You can imagine put this log on and then that one and the stove will do very different things, so being too exact with output calculations can be a mistake:

Hi, don't know if I'm too late to this but I had a Stovax inset in my last house and it was fine heating a large living/dining room but did need plenty of fuel. In my new (smaller ) house, I'm going for an inset again as the fireplace is perfectly good. I'm looking at the Ecosy Hampton 5 inset. Looks attractive and is considerably cheaper than the Tetbury or anything else it seems and no multi-fuel ashpan which I think may help with the clean burn and efficiency limitations of insets. Would be great if Gabriel could do a review of that one. I notice he seems to like the Hamptons he's reviewed so far.
I’m open to trying one out. Insets are a little hit and miss at times and the Stovax does have a relatively good reputation. I’m hoping I can do a few more insets next year.
Have you got any reviews of charlton & jenerick pv5w2 ? What do you think of charlton & jenerick products ?
I’m in conversation with them, they were struggling with stock last year, but are sending me one as soon as they have a gap.
I’m keen to try a PureVision because I’ve heard loads of good things, but I’ve never even seen one in the flesh yet. The baffle seems very clever, but I’m keen to hear and see how that continues to work into the future, is it servicing issue or no problem???
Can’t wait to have a go with one either way.
@@TheTortoise thanks for your reply, your video reviews have been really helpful in choosing a stove, l didn't realise there was such a massive choice, it's mind blowing 🤣
👍👍
Can it handle car tires?
Well I’ll try anything once. 😬
