West Ham v Leicester - Commentary by Brian Moore
Huddersfield v Man Utd - Commentary by Keith Macklin
Wolves v Southampton - Commentary by Hugh Johns
The Big Match with Brian Moore & Jimmy Hill 68-73 seems better than the late 70s episodes with Moore alone. Better camera angles, interviews & theme tune.
Funny, Brian sat behind a really stylish set up, yet 4-5 yrs later he had a basic MFI kitchen unit & a propped up board behind with a picture on it & 2 seats for guests.
I was at this game in the northbank down the front. Greaves & Weller were my favourite players back then. Everytime Weller came to the byline i kept shouting out 'hello Keith'. I must've got on his nerves because after tenth time he quickly looked at me and said 'Hello' back to me. I was so chuffed!! I was only 11.
Long after everyone on the park had retired the outstanding Peter Shilton plays for England in the World cup semi at Italia 90. Then plays club football until season 1996/7. Absolutely incredible.
Thanks for posting this! I remember seeing that WHU v City match as the second game ( just brief highlights) on our ATV ' Star Soccer' show. Never seen it in colour before. Great stuff!
Not surprised there were only brief highlights on Star Soccer, ATV usually thought there were only 4 or 5 clubs in the Midlands, Leicester City weren't one of them!
38:39 amazing snapshot of the crowd when a throw in is taken , all adults are wearing suits !
As an old Ipswich fan lovely see Danny Hegan again after all these years
Fabulous
Shilton was outstanding in this game. He won the point for the Foxes
Funny to hear Brian Moore say "Wolves are in the plain shirts" because in 1971, not everyone had colour TV!
95% of the country had bw TVs, the colour sets were very expensive, no working class families could afford them & most of us rented our bw TVs then as if you bought one they would have faults every year costing a lot out of our meagre wages. We were quite happy watching bw TV, we knew what colour everything was, so what's the point. Different world.
I wonder if Frank Worthington & Georgie Best went for a little drink together that night in 'Uddersfield.
No V.A.R heaven😊
Love it Brian Moore says the team in plain shirts for them watching black and white tellys
You must rmbr that this is 1972 when 95% of the population only had bw TVs. Colour sets were very expensive at the price of a good second hand car & also we had been watching bw TV for 20yrs, it was just normal & actually I preferred it. TV then was more about what was said or happened than what colour was the grass, we knew it was green. Telly, like Footy was better then (I miss me ol' tube!).
Give us a twitch 'Arry
That's the foundation of the classic Leicester City squad of the 70s, how they never won anything is still a bit beyond me. They should at least have had an FA Cup in them. 🦊🦊💙💙
Both teams had small tight grounds with great atmospheres. I rmbr one bad winter it was so cold that Keith Weller went out with a pair of black wooly tights on under his shorts. Brave man.
Further, Leicester sold their best young stars unlike West Ham, their best players stayed, hardly any left that club which says a lot about the club & they went to Wembley twice in the 70s, winning once.
Did any of yo youngsters notice the tackles, hard but clean, also players had to actually kick the ball to make a pass, not like today with todays ball. I didn't remember how close I used to stand to the player in the east stand till watching video, Shilton was always my favourite goal keeper.
I'll get you Butter, I'll get you!
Always nice to see Southampton get beaten (I'm a Pompey fan).
RIP Bobby Charlton
Yeah, we know. A lot of the players there are dead, it's called getting old. He had a great life so RIP is superfluous.
Not sure why the foul in the box was given as indirect, but I wish we had more of those. Too many garbage fouls given as penalties when the player has his back to the goal and it’s never a scoring chance.
Indirect free kicks were given for obstruction, an offence which seems to have disappeared.
now forwards push the ball past defenders and run into the and are awarded a penalty. Ruled to day suck.@@f0urstr1ng
On 36:31 why an indirect free kick and not a Penalty , and when did the rules change ?
Why did Dennis Law pass it when he had an open goal , odd .
Because he was an ex-Huddersfield man and he was being kind to them!
Yeah, I thought that, it wasn't a miss hit & it was well open, even a back heel would've done, it was typical Denis Law territory.
Bests gial should've stood v banks
Wrong match.
Banks save better
Funny--Not ONE of these players would even make a Championship team today. Much too slow and technically not there. Not enough upper body strength either.
Do you talk sh**efor a living? Yes Charlton, Best, Law, Kindon, Jennings. Shilton etc etc the goalkeepers are also far better
Rubbish, today's players have these awful sterile grass/artificial grass pitches, a ball that seems to be filled with helium that they hardly stroke it & it zooms across the field or ping pongs in the goalmouth. There's zero tackling & wages of half a million quid every month. This wasn't the greatest match but watch Liverpool from here to 20yrs hence for sublime beauty. This is real football not fake football.
Don't talk rubbish
Charlton, Law, Morgan, Bobby Moore, Jimmy Greaves, quite a few more would be well at home in today's game. If they were good on bad pitches they would be a million times better on decent pitches, lighter boots, better diet and fitness. Malcolm Macdonald could do 100 metres in 10.3 seconds, that's pretty quick by any standard especially for a footballer
Thanks for your considered OPINION Paul. By the way, what are your qualifications in Football? The ball these guys moved around would be like a medicine ball to modern players, kicking it would break their ankles. One tackle from these guys would put a modern player out of the game for 3 months. Best, Law and Charlton only fit for the modern Championship - you really have embarrassed yourself there, sweetcheeks, I don't know whether to laugh or cry- oh wait I'm doing both, I'm CRYING WITH LAUGHTER. 😝🤣😂
