The Leeds game was fantastic entertainment played with passion in a time when players played for the jersey, were loyal to the club and fans, without earning more in a month than I've earned in the last 46 years. Even after the heaviest of tackles they just get up and get on with it, the fact that every single player was born and bred in these isles is a bonus. Thanks for posting, brilliant stuff 👍👍

Loved the contrast in playing styles between Crystal Palace and Leeds United. Joy to see Bremner and Giles in Midfield and big Mick Jones up front with Alan Clarke constantly pressing the defence to deny them space and time. Loved that Palace played with what I remember as 3 wingers, Hughes, Cooke and Rodgers but obviously in a different shape. Great game for those of us who remember how good football was then.

Love the dynamic camera work and real-time production that went into this. Miles better than present day, maybe I'm in a minority though. Seems to bring a game alive.

Because the pitch is part of the battle rather than the insipid one they use now, the ball that they use now is quite different too. They hardly hit & it whizzes thru the air & hit into the goalmouth it's like a giant ping pong ball. This is real football but come the 21st Century it's now completely different. I have no interest in it, but this is gold with the Mighty Leeds Utd who generally didn't get many wins in London in this era. When Leeds Utd paid you a visit it was like a FA Cup semi final & sell outs, Liverpool was another club that had this effect.

I started going to games in 1968 and still attend regularly. There is no comparison between the experience now and then. The standard in these games is roughly that of League Two now. The players are bigger, stronger, faster and fitter. Technically they are far superior. The game is far more physically demanding because of the relentless press. It is light years ahead tactically. The pitches are immaculate and the stadiums a pleasure to be in. There are far more women, children and minorities at games. The terrible violence at games in the 70s is no more. What you are missing is not the football but your youth.

You're thinking about footballs from the 1930's and 1940's which was like kicking a medicine ball around the pitch. Footballs in the 70's (and I still have mine from 1972) are as light as footballs today.

@@christybyrne5195 Me too and I have to agree with you. Having said that, it was the way a lot of centre halves played back then. Uncompromising and brutal at times, but I wouldn't go as far as saying GBH. ABH perhaps.

@@christybyrne5195 Roy Keane another on Man City Haaland pay back, when Haaland had verbally abused him, well verbally abuse him back, but as we know next derby he deliberately broke his shin with a 'tackle' like Hunter's & it ended Haaland's career, so it wasn't like for like. Police should have charged him. Keane at this stage had become an skinhead animal.

      Police? 🤔
Didn't a police officer go on to the pitch at Highbury and warn a player about his behaviour? Anyone recall?

Sounds mad Brian Moore saying Leeds are all in yellow if you have a black and white TV Leeds had a great team back then I love watching these old games a time when you had to realy battle to win the league because every team was equally matched backed then these days you can almost tell who will win the leauge it's a pity no other team outside the top six pl teams will ever win the PL or the FA cup that's a part of the game that's gone for ever the best thing anyother team can hope for is a long run in the FA cup ir the league cup these rich business people have ruined football money has bought the pl same teams winning the pl and FA cup it's a shame

Money has always been a significant factor - do you not remember the “Chequebook Champions” Everton in 1963?
Clough spent bucketloads (for the time) to make Derby champions in 1972 - it’s just a question of scale

Weird thing. In 1970s you could fight, throw elbows, scissor kick but the referee would wave play on, but heavens above, push down on a defender while heading would be a yellow card. In 2020's, You can push down on defenders all you want, but you so much as brush a player with a feather, the player drops like an anchor and its a red card.
