  • What's the best way to setup your low profile air cooler in the Cooler Master NR200? Unlike with tower air coolers, the difference between an average and a downright amazing setup is huge. In this video I'll cover some of the many iterations that are possible with a Noctua NH-L12S in this case. The testing with this low profile cooler is applicable for different low profile air coolers as well. I will also investigate how a solid side panel performs, such as in the NR200P.

    Superb info again, I'm building my NR200P when they come back into stock in the UK, already got the P12's (5 pack from Scan with free delivery was £16!) Ordered 2 packs..
    Now I've got to decide between these 2 coolers.

    One of the best essays on aircooling and optimized air flow in SFF cases ! FWY I have a 3900X in a Streacom DA2 aircooled by a NH-C14S in push - pull config and it is incredibly silent (not OCed but PBO enabled) while it manages to tame the beast ...

    The cooler I'd suggest which I'm thinking about for a 3600x or 3700x top, is the Noctua NH-U9S. Maybe you'll cover it too? I have plenty of time until I can by next gen GPU (under 3800 category for sure, 3700 or 3600). Cheers

    Is it possible to have vertical position of GPU with these low profile coolers in NR200 (mesh panel)? And then arrange push/pull configuration of fans? The GPU would suck the air both from bottom and side mesh panel and CPU would get the air from bottom? But is it possible to fit GPU in vertical position?

I am thinking to push pull with one fan under the PSU at the bottom as intake.. and one exhaust above the cpu. Glass panel side. I am only running a 1600 on a b550i so I think it will be fine. I migrated my build from a silverstone ftz01 to a n200p. So I kept the noctua l12s low profile cooler. I'm cooling a 5900X with acceptable thermals using the mesh panel. This video convinced me to place an additional fan on the side. I'm running an asus rog Strix 3080 (reason to change the case), which has a massive cooling solution and bleeds some heat to the top. The side panel fan makes sense to mitigate this. Question, one or two side panel fans? I didn't found test data on this, more would be better (since I have them already), right?

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  3 роки тому +1

      Awesome! First time builder, love it! In a few weeks I'll be doing a full build from start to finish so perhaps that will be helpful.
      Depending on your GPU, you might be able to fit two 25mm fans under it, or two 15mm fans. Those should always blow upwards into your GPU fans (look at the arrows on the side of the fan case to check). With an SFX power supply, at the top, you are able to mount one fan blowing upwards, this is directly over the PSU cage. You might not get another fan over your C14S, unless you have something like a ASUS board and get a slim fan to mount.
      The simple configuration is just to mount the 140mm fan at the top of the C14S heatsink, to blow air towards your motherboard. That's it! You really only need three fans in that setup, if you feel like you need it later on you could always get another fan that works well on heatsinks, and mount it under the heatsink to blow more air at the motherboard (look for "Static pressure" optimized fans). HTH and good luck!

      I'm also building my first desktop pc and want to go with the C14S on the NR200P (gonna use the mesh cover). Still not sure how many fan do I exactly need. My case comes with 2 stock fans both 120mm. I'm thinking of mounting them at the bottom of the gpu but not sure if they fit.
      Did you use slim fans (12x15) on the bottom? How about for the top as exhaust, did you use a slim fan there?

    • @hangizon
      @hangizon 3 роки тому +1

      @@marieantoine It actually went pretty well! I ended up with two up top as exhausts (not slim). It fits perfectly for me. I used 2 fans in the bottom also but took them off. I ended up using the se224xt as the cooler so am using 2 fans (also not slim) on the cooler. So in total I'm using 4 fans (and I'm using the arctic ones since noctua is much more expensive). You should be able to fit in slim fans in the bottom. The top exhausts works perfectly and is highly recommended. Machines & More videos helped me a lot for my final build.

    Good tests, thanks a lot! I wonder what would be the best possible solution if I need to install my 3,5" WD Red 4TB drive - an L12S with the fan *under* the cooler (so low profile RAM), and the drive on the power supply cage? Or the drive on the side panel, would that still be possible with an additional intake fan? Is it possible at all to use such a drive when combined with a C14S? I'm thinking about a build *without* any graphics card, either with Ryzen 5600G/5700G or with Intel i5-11500 (without K, no overclocking).
    Thanks and cheers from Germany,

    Thank you for your vids. I actually have a Noctua L9A Low Profile Cooler but I can’t put a bottom fan because of the my thick 2070 Super GPU from Inno3D. One sickle flow fan on the top of the cpu as exhaust and one sickle flow fan on the side as intake bringing air directly to the cpu. I can’t place another fan at the top since my PSU is an SFX-L. GPU is around 78c when gaming at 1440p in Warzone and RDR2.
    What would you suggest for this build to reduce temps? Should I add another fan at the side? Or switch to vertical with two exhaust fans at the top + 2 intake fans at the bottom?

    First off - Great reviews!
    I ordered a NR200P + 5600X + Gigabyte B550I Aorus AX. I'm worried about the stock cooler and noise. I like it quiet. I watched your review of the NH-L12S in the NR200 and am very interested in quietness with glass side panel setup. The Mugen 5 rev.b is currently about the same price and quietness comparing your reviews. So basically the NH-L12S is simply more compact and gives similar performance to the Mugen 5 rev.b. So it seems like a no-brainer to get the low profile NH-L12S or am I missing something?

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  3 роки тому

      One observation- it sounds like you got the glass panel version, in which the airflow of a tower like the Mugen 5 will be much better than an L12S (which really works well when a vented panel and intaking side fan can help it)

      If you can fit it, go for it. Mine would not with the L12S.

    On Noctua website its says that the nh-l12s is not compatible with a gigabyte x570i mb. Did you have to take off the I/O shroud? Also does 25mm fan fit for dual top exhaust or should we go with slim fans?

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  3 роки тому +1

      No, it was compatible at stock. What it might be implying is more restrictions with fan on the bottom, and it does lack the ability to be mounted where the overhang would hit the I/O shroud, although you can go at least 1 way for either fins horizontal or fins vertical, and there will be a RAM height limitation. I didn’t have issues with fan on the bottom plus LPX RAM, for what it’s worth.

    im liking this setup , would 2 side panel fans be a negative over the one in this situation ?

    • @MachinesMore

      Performance wise, no negatives, but it won’t help much either, so noise/cost is a small factor.

    Is it possible to run the NZXT Kraken M22 on the CPU, with decent temps?
    I'd love to be able to keep the glass panel.

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  4 роки тому

      You can- but it requires side/vertical mounting your GPU and then bottom mounting the rad, I’m not sure I would go through that trouble unless I had the M22 already, since most of the towers will beat a 120mm AIO with no difficulty.

    Will the Noctua U9S fit with a side panel fan? I already have a U9S on hand and wonder if it'll be good enough for a 3700x with a side panel fan instead of upgrading to a Fuma 2 or Noctua C14S.

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, absolutely you can since the U9S is only 125mm or so. You have plenty of space for the side fan- although- I don’t know how useful it will be, blowing air on the closed side of a heatsink. And anecdotally speaking a U9S is plenty for a 3700X, even with light OC.

      @@MachinesMore Oh that's great to know!
      I was planning on putting a low RPM 140mm to reduce noise on the right most slot of the AIO bracket (facing the PSU) so fresh air can be blown into the intake side of the U9S.

    • @jandalight1598

      I have a U9S with push/pull exhaust fans in the NR200, and a 25mm thick Noctua A14 fan mounted on the side rack doesn’t fit - but it would fit if you mounted the side fan directly to the panel (as I’ve seen done on Reddit)

  • @DanIsNotHome

    If you're running a L12S in a top fan mount configuration, is there enough clearance room left to mount a GPU AIO radiator with fans on the side bracket?

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  3 роки тому +1

      If I recall correctly it will have to be in low profile mode, I did this with a Big Shuriken 3. The fan will be right up against the rad too so realistically you need to exhaust the cpu cooler into the radiator (don’t intake the rad exhaust into your cooler). The better way is to use a 120mm AIO if your GPU is low TBP enough.

    Did you run into any issue mouting the NH-L12S with the Gigabyte X570 I? The Noctua actually website says it is not compatible. ncc.noctua.at/coolers/NH-L12S-17/motherboards/Gigabyte/AM4/?q=570
