I just pulled my oil cooler for a rebuild and had the EXACT same discovery you did; chunks of weird debris that looked like pieces of plastic, glass, and a couple of curled up ribbons of metal! I can’t even imagine how all that stuff could’ve gotten in there!
It has been a while since I did it but I dont think so. It was just a tight fit but it worked. If you tried to install an extra long filter that could be a problem.
Nice work. That cat really did quiet it down a ton. I stick with strictly Motorcraft filters on my Fords. Their media is one of the best compromises between flow and filtration, and it's a guarantee it has the proper bypass pressure. Plus they're so cheap, why use anything else? I read that same article years ago and it's quite old now. His testing methodologies are somewhat questionable, but it was good info to help make my oil decisions. QS has changed formulas a couple of times since that article was written and the API specs have changed since then too. Still, QS is good oil. I just became an Amsoil guy though for a number of reasons, which I thought I would never do. Thanks and have a good one!
SudsyCloud Will do. Have you messed with the instrument cluster. Half of my didn’t work. So bought another one now less works on it. Wondering if it’s bad cluster or wiring running to the cluster. That’s beyond my skill set.
I watched a UA-cam video last year where a guy compares top oil brands against Amazon brand oil and Amazon was top 2 overall and top in some categories based on his testing of various things
Dude I have that same brown stool! 80s special hand-me-down from my parents and their basement bar back in the day lol. Sorry for all the comments, just writing them as I watch
The only problem with full synthetic is the fact that it is thinner then conventional. It will over time allow your to end Expesually cama to wear and overheat
I dont think you are getting the right information. Oil viscosity should be very similar if not identical between convention and synthetic. Granted there may be minute variations between brands, blends, etc. but thats very likely not whats going to cause failure. For your average driver its going too long between changes. For racers its the oils ability to still provide protection at elevated temperatures. Synthetic allows you to go longer and supports high oil temps before breakdown.
Kiratpal Gill its getting tougher and tougher these days. So i think you have a few good options. First try craigslist, Facebook marketplace, etc. Second just take the car to a muffler shop and have them Make you one. I suspect the GT one may “fit” but not well
That filter looks really tight in there. Are the motor mounts nice and stiff? To avoid excessive engine movement that might cause the filter to come in contact with anything that might damage it.
I never thought about the motor mounts but thats a good point. Its got space but like you said it could use more. Ill have to keep an eye on it and inspect the filter for any signs of rubbing. The good news is these motors dont make a ton of “twist” if you know what i mean. Its not like snapping the throttle on my BBC

Thanks for the video. Does anything else have to be removed to get the cooler out of the car? Seems like a tight fit.

hey man - what size hose fits the radiator petcock on our Cobra's?
Honestly im not 100% sure. Somewhere around 5/16” to 3/8” hose i would bet

yooo congrats on the new mach 1 - that color is majestic. I don't suppose you have the link to these seals anymore?
