The Other Small Block Engine Rebuild
The Other Small Block Engine Rebuild for when you're tired of every single LS, Coyote, SBC, and SBF video on the internet today!
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a Magnum? Nope this is part 2 of rebuilding my LA Series Small Block Mopar (Dodge 360). This engine is currently in my 1978 Dodge W200 Power Wagon in front of the 727 3 spd.
In part one we tore my bone stock 360 apart. WATCH THAT VIDEO FIRST HERE: ua-cam.com/video/QFgVtLgD3Zc/v-deo.html
Now it's time to fix the leaks, address the timing chain, beef up our cooling system, and add some horsepower via a Professional Products intake manifold and Edelbrock AVS2 carburetor.
Is the 360 worth saving, or should you swap it for something more modern and common? Stay tuned and learned some tips along the way.

Small Block Mopar Tear Down
Переглядів 7314 днів тому
Watch me tear down a classic small block Mopar in under 5 minutes! The Mopar 360 LA is the older brother of the classic 5.9 Magnum found in newer trucks and SUVs. However, this old Mopar 360 has seen some hard miles and has some issues that need addressing including oil leaks, look timing chain, compromise gaskets, and an extremely restrictive 2BBL intake. In this video we set up the camera and...
Rebuilt Carburetor Tune Check

Rebuilt carburetor tune check with AEM Wideband AFR gauge. I was curious after rebuilding my Holley 2BBL carburetor to the factory specifications whether it was actually tuned to run optimally. To confirm whether the stock specs are ideal I decided I would install an AEM Electronics 30-0300 X-Series Wideband UEGO AFR sensor controller gauge with x-digital technology and take it on a road test t...

Dead battery woes, accessories staying on after the car is off? Here's how to prevent a dead battery with an accessory kill switch. When I installed a boost controller on my twin turbo Mustang Mach 1 I thought it was as easy as finding a 12V switched source. Unfortunately, new cars aren't as simple as those old muscle cars and trucks we love. Often times when the car is turned off power remains...
I Put Off This Project for a Year CLASSIC CAR Edition

On this edition of TruckandRoll we tackle a project on my classic car that I put off for a year! About a year ago I purchased weld in subframe connectors for my 1964 Mercury Comet. However, I've been procrastinating this project severely. You're on your back, grinding, cutting, welding, etc. Plus you know they probably won't fit without some modifications. However, today is the day! I'm finally...

just do the gasket right the first time
@@adairjanney7109 if you have the engine on a stand this is a no brainer. Trying to do a front timing cover on a Mopar in the car means you have to cut the oil pan gasket and install 2 cork ends (cut to fit), main lip seal, and then try and slip the cover on and align everything without it moving. Its not like a SBC. Sometimes you gotta work with what you have
no timing cover wants to go back on you are not special
@@adairjanney7109 lol i dont think i was trying to be special, just share a product I was pleasantly surprised with ;)
@@truckandroll989 fair enough I guess what I meant is that truck aint differnt, hell every timing cover ive ever messed with made me want to die, reapplying gasket stuff over and over cause it wont fit on right thats what I was getting at but worded it a bit dickish it seems
@@adairjanney7109 lol all good my dude :)
You are a good man I’ll be doing this and your bullet points about all the little details that I wouldn’t have known are super thank you
Hmmmmmmm. I'm skeptical. Wheres the remnants of the oil leak?
@@clayton9136 so truth be told I put this on expecting a massive oil leak from installing my timing cover. I don’t think it would’ve sealed up as well if you had already had oil in that crevice but there’s no way that thing should have not leaked. The fit up when you dont drop the pan is truly abysmal. So in your defense, it’s not a perfect test, but I’m still super stoked that it doesn’t leak at all.
What a pansy.
Damn, too bad it won’t work for my rear main seal 😂
@@coleregan7115 yeah that’s a tough one. You could always try it, but you’d have to get the surface super clean and oil free.
Going to prolly Need this for my 86 cressida
@@mmzero562 I was on the phone with Permatex asking them about the right rtv for my intake and was like “do yall have something to put on after a leak has started” and i was surprised to hear the answer was yes.
How she supposed to leave you love spots now though?
@@samthekashman the old girl will find a way, trust me. This transmission has more leaks in it than the Iraqi Navy. 😂
So you saying you sealed up a leak that you didn’t have with a product your not sure really works??🙄
@@dannyc1657 hahaha if you would have seen the install of the timing cover and the way you have to position these cork gaskets independent of the front seal, block, timing cover, and pan it looked like a guaranteed leak. I agree its not a perfect test but i had no faith in the cork. They were cut to fit and squished out when I torqued the timing cover to pan. Still a cool product
@@truckandroll989and still not a real test
Thanks!
??? Why did you sale the Mach 1 Beast
@@richardruiz6812 :) it was time for something else and I’ve got a pretty cool new project in mind that’s going to be a total 180 from this car but I think I will learn a lot from it. I’m gonna try and get some new videos soon.

The full synthetic is not hard to find. Your local Ford or Lincoln dealer has it. I would recommend always using full synthetic in that type of vehicle
"Less pedal effort" this dude weak af. Dude buy a modern car with electronic start so u dont break your fingers. Turning the ignition key is dangerous.
@@apocolypse11 well well well if it isn’t the neighborhood troll. Its not about not being able to press the pedal its about being able to modulate the gas. Think of driving a stick shift car where the throttle feels like its stuck closed. Not fun for you or the passengers. Anyways thanks for watching and either way i appreciate the comments ;)
How to reset? Did some work & tried unhooking the battery
awesome videos my guy
@@5Star-e7y thank you sir!
Seems like the modified system sounded more aggressive on acceleration which to me sounds pretty good. Performance wise i say it gain a few ponies!
Yea it was maybe a touch throatier and for sure worth some extra power but certainly wasnt too loud. I try to tell people all the time you can have a good performing exhaust without waking the neighbors. In a newer video I ditch the quiet muffler and go for a Flowmaster 10 series. The change js dramatic :)
Seem like a proffesional , i have 22 inch rims.on chevelle looks , great , how can i get a lift? Do you recommend spacers or certsin springs i could use?
@@Theundisputedtruth im not super familiar with Chevelles but yes taller springs, if they make such a thing taller spindles (or if your car was previously lowered on drop spindles install stock ones). Otherwise some sort of plate between the spring and perch would do it like you said.

if your vehicle has true duals and no cross over pipe do you need tow seperate 02 Sensors (one for each side) or i one good? if you do need two is that a different style gauge ?
@@airell47 Modern cars use multiple (sometimes up to 4) oxygen sensors (either one or two per side before and sometimes after the catalytic converters). On an engine dyno ive seen oxygen sensors installed in each primary tube to understand variances cylinder to cylinder. However in this application one is likely sufficient but it does mean there could be a variation between each side of the motor. Since a carburetor really doesnt allow much tuning for side to side variation I recommend picking the easiest install location (on one side) and using that. You could always weld in a second bung on the other side, plug the original bung, and check for differences. If you had a y pipe that was pretty close to the manifold collectors that could be another good location but then you are only seeing an average. So the short/long answer is more would be ideal but thats added cost and likely not worth it unless you are racing or getting really serious about tuning.
@@truckandroll989 perfect that helps allot. i normally drive and tune EFI vehicles started working on a old 81 f150 with a 71 "5L" i got it running and driving great but i would like to start trying to squeeze a bit more out of the motor. im going to try one of these setups and see what happens. my thought is its the easiest way to track a base line ( what its at now) and see changes made.
@@airell47 good call. If you check my other videos I actually have a few discussing tuning on a 5L Ford. Ive got playlists for my videos and those tuning videos are for my 64 Comet. Could maybe be helpful :)
@@truckandroll989 thanks, will do, much appreciated.
Hey I got a good tip if your cam is to big that just requires some time, at least on a sbc. The stock stamped steel sbc rocker arms are never actually 1.5! If you check them They can be anywhere from 1.43 to 1.47 But never 1.5. So if you buy two sets of stock rockers and test all 32 of them your bound to find 16 that are close enough you can even play games with it and put bigger lift ones on the intake and smaller lift ones on the exhaust to improve low rpm performance. Another benefit is because the rocker ratio is decreased it puts less pressure on your valve train.
@@The0utmode thats a really good call!
Mine runs pig rich 😂 It’s usually around low 12s when cruising. I’d imagine down sizing the jets would solve that.
@@jacobpitts3645 if its an edelbrock or another style carb that used step up springs your issue could be load related and you could change the spring vs a smaller jet. But yes if you are at light load cruising you engine can tolerate a leaner AFR and you should pick up some mpg and avoid fouling plugs.
@@truckandroll989 the crazy thing is the plugs aren’t fouled. The carb is a Holley 750 vac secondaries. However, the carb was manufactured in 1985. Soooooo haha
Very cool I want to do the same to my 81 is it reliable dependable that is what I want, to be able to jump in it and not have to worry if I’m gonna make it home. 😂
Just upgrading your radiator fans will improve your ac because it also cools down your condenser
As someone new to the Holley efi what r somethings u could tell me to be aware of or things I should do
@@Kidchevy88 id say the biggest improvement/thing you should do (if you dont have the new holley sniper) is the modification I mention to improve throttle feel. Beyond that keep an eye on sensors. I had a new coolant temp sensor fail which makes vehicle run super rich/basically undrivable. Also, if you want the most out of your sniper, even though they are self learning, plan a dyno session with a reputable tuner and he/she can dial it in faster/better.

Believe it or not I got my fronts done without a spring compressor. Lucky I reckon.
That is lucky. With lowering springs that often happens. Avoiding using compressors is always a plus!
Check out sleeperdudes last engine build, (ford). He was saying with 302 ford block and bigger heads, that he had to go with an older timing chain because it is thinner than a newer timing chain allowing to run a mechanical fuel pump without leaking thru the bottom of the water pump housing. I don’t know if it is the same as a ford. Ok I gotta know, How did you get the undercarriage of your mustang so clean? I have an 01 roush and it is bad. Not horrible but far from looking like yours.
@@busarob3679 so depending on which video you watched I had to pull the k member on my 97 Cobra. While it was off I degreased and power washed it. That made a huge difference! Thank you for watching!
Yeah there is a worse oil change, the gm 5.3l (or any LS/modern LT for that matter) is worse, at least you can fully grip the hemi oil filter with your hand rather then on the 5.3l where your forced to do a balancing trick with your fingers with the risk of it slipping and dropping into the oil pan and making a mess because the god damn filter is so tight up against the oil pan 🤦🏼♂️

@@DentedDiesel didnt clear. Had to notch them 😩
I can't say enough good things about quick performance. I have called them 3 times so far, and every. single. time. I got someone who could help me out from beginning to end. No sending me to so and so who is at lunch and half to leave a message. I ordered my differential and axles, and two days later I got an out for delivery notice for the axles. It came 2nd day air which I didn't even request but it was a nice customer service assurance. I paid the extra money for a slight rush job, but the man said it should ship on July 10th. LOVE these guys. Very knowledgeable!
Did you have to adjust the target rpm lower after installing extension lever ? My car idles higher (1100 rpm ) now than it did with the snappy pedal without the extender (800 rpm ) Or will the sniper self tune and find the target rpm again eventually?.
@@spades262 it has been a while but i would imagine if you can slide the new arm into place of the stock one and it doesnt move the throttle blades there should be no change and you adjust it as you would stock. I think idle rpm is set with the screw. Also there were settings in the software for linear vs progressive throttle if i remember correctly.

Like that the last thing was to tie it all together... are you going to take it to the track to show us what the results are after 6 months of hard labor?👍 I'm guessing that you sold the c10 but I was wondering what your thoughts were on the 6 speed? I have an 83 GMC short box with a blown sbc and the Sniper guesstamating around 500hp kinda simular to what yours was ,and looking to pull the 700r4 for the last time...
A track day would be fun. The only issue is I have a nasty trans leak I need to sort out and it’s now >100F in Utah. I will one day though! Regarding the 6 spd I liked it a lot but wasn’t in love with the rebuild I received. It would pop out of first gear which was terrifying. I’d highly recommend a stick with an overdrive. Honestly maybe a TKX considering your hp, it’s size, weight, and cost

OMG, I've seen so many RAM oil change videos, not because I don't know how to change my oil, but because every time I need to; I think to myself, there must be a better way. It sucks so bad and think, this was RAM's 5th generation :). The key I see is to approach it with a humorous attitude. Thanks man.
Lol its honestly not the worst but the swaybar bit cracks me up. Honestly easiest vehicles to change the oil on have been my Corvettes when I had them. Drain plug doesnt hit anything, filter is directly on the bottom. Ugh why cant more OEMs make it simple or at least mess free!
@@truckandroll989 You are the first I've seen take the sway bar down. I installed a Fumoto F106N drain valve in place of the drain plug years ago and it made that part way easier. Sway bar was close to making contact with the nipple so I trimmed it down about a 1/4". Still plenty left to a little hose on though. Not needed but keeps the wind from blowing the little stream all over. Also tried the oil udder XL yesterday and punctured the filter and wow, cleanest oil change I've done on the RAM ever. Still not Corvette easy but tolerable.
Remember "the key is the nipple"
