First let me say I thoroughly enjoyed this synopsis, it does make me feel like actually watching the show. Please keep up the great work. The TV show is named Silo.
As I remember Plato's Cave, it is closer to a choice between the normally accepted blue pill (whereby usual expectations are reenforced) and the red pill whereby the actual real world and life are seen truly.
@@CarlosSpicyweiner-iv8mq yes, I have watched this summary of this movie. You were correcting someone concerning Plato's Cave. My memory was bad. This is Hugh Howley's Wool series.. kinda annoying that isn't mentioned.. it was a well written book series Juliet Nichols was the main character. Each book in the series happened on a a different timeline
Yeah. City of Ember did it better. A simpler story, told well. The basic premise of City of Ember is that people had to wait 300 years for the Earth to regenerate, but somewhere over that period of time, both the exit time and the box containing the instructions of what to do when the time came were lost and forgotten. It's been a lot longer than 300 years and the city is beginning to break down. Then a young girl finds the box, which has now automatically opened (via a timer both powered by and timed by atomic decay).
Found this a few month ago on Apple tv, never heard of it, never seen it advertised, didn't know it existed. I bing watched the whole series in one day! I got fallout vibes the whole time, this is better than fallout, and exactly what Id expect from people in real life! This Series is Amazing!
The first book in the series, Wool, which this show is based on, was written in 2011. The City of Ember book was written in 2003, so Hugh Howley definitely could have been influenced by it.
In the book it was a bit less of a surprise because Juliette see the screen size dimensions for the video but only when she puts on the helmet does she figure out why the video was set so small. Anyway, the books are wonderful read
*Spoilers* So to answer some people’s questions about the ‘why?’ I will try and keep it somewhat brief to not completely spoil everything….but from what I can recall, the basic premise is that the ‘Silos’ are actually controlled by a sort of ‘quasi-AI’ programme. The reasoning behind the projections in the suit are to give the participants a reason to clean the lense, because if they were to see that there was a wasteland they may not have the motivation to actually clean the lense for the Silos. And from what I can gather the reason for artifacts of the old world being forbidden is to quash the ‘hope’ of living outside for the Silo dwellers so that they want to stay and survive and then if/when they go out to clean they have this artificial revelation that the outside world is alive and they clean the lense and go to explore…but the suits are intentionally sabotaged so that they die ‘peacefully’ rather than trying to survive outside
For anyone curious, if you look at the Wikipedia page of Silo (the book series) there’s a very good and ‘brief’ summary of every book. Everything is explained there and all your questions will be answered lol

Puts me in mind of an old 2000AD "Future Shock" where a guy in a bunker insists that "Earth is a garden!", he goes out and... immediately dies to the radiation and chemicals left over even centuries after WW3.
It’s almost exactly like an old episode of X Minus One from 1955 called “universe” where an entire population live in a spaceship and are forbidden to question what is outside of the spaceship and two people try to get people to rise up question what is outside the ship. Instead of tremors there are mutant instances. In a sequel it’s revealed the outside world is filled with radiation.
Excellent story As most stories you find the deception of mankind Is always in the story. Lies will be told to the masses So they can get what they want Isn't it always like that?
They always make the plots so convoluted. The premise is good but all the twists and turns are hard to follow. So in the end, the Earth is still a wasteland ... or not?
The book series is several orders of magnitude better than the TV show. Hugh Howey released the first book a couple chapters at a time because he was interested in feedback from his readers. These are some of my favorite dystopian fiction books that I've ever read. I highly recommend reading them before you watch the show.

I enjoyed this show but found the central theme conflicting… everyone does know ‘the truth’ - that is, that the Earth is still a wasteland and only habitable with a highly protective suit. I don’t get what’s being ‘hidden’. I also didn’t understand why it was so provocative to see how the Earth used to be - the children’s book - that is entirely consistent with the truth; that is, the Earth used to be like that, and now it isn’t. What’s wrong with people knowing this? I hope a second series will answer such questions!
I agree. After we find out that the Earth is indeed not habitable, why not teach everyone why and how Earth used to be? It makes absolutely no sense to hide it. If anything, it creates even more conspiracies and craziness like Silo lol
Not sure how close they will follow the books but, this series is one of those stories where there is always another layer to uncover. All I will say is there is people out there that would prefer for humanity to forget everything about the past.
You sure about that? Because the outside still looked radioactive to me. I don't even know why they put a hologram of a lush green landscape for people to see. If anything, it's the rebels that are tricking people into going outside to get poisoned.
not really, the gov need most of them to believe, and need some of them to not believe the gov. If 1 silo have pandemic, goes crazy or out of food etc and if everyone know there's other silo they'll try to invade the other silo. but they still need people who doesn't trust government just so that they want to go out and make them want to clean the lens but the people going out have to die in order not to raise curiosity of the other. because if everyone goes out they will die or worse, cause other silo to die. so the government telling the truth about the outside being toxic, but doesn't tell about other silo, and spread some conspiracy to make someone goes out every couple of years to clean

Assuming that everything is on target, ETA for Season 2 could be as soon as 4th quarter this year or early 2025. Excellent show, great cast, visuals are great. Yes, there are cows.
This all seems so pointless. Why not simply let them out, with a safe suit, no holograms or whatever, and when they see that the world really is a shithole, let them back in? Burn or disinfect the suit, further disinfect the person, then let them back in. They’d come in and say, “Damn, everything really is gone. Thanks for letting me back in.” And then everyone would be 10x more happy and content.
Very long story short, they do, in fact, find other survivors AND the Eden they are looking for. The bunkers were part of an experiment that went on longer than it should have.
