      Sean, this plane would be a great "First plane"...but just keep in mind, the 1.3m Bigfoot is also another great RTF plane. It's not a TON more money, but it's a LOT more plane ;)
      Bigfoot 1.3m RTF - bit.ly/30mYdOq - ua-cam.com/play/PLXTH0DstRDc7elVLLXihkLRs_J4QQ0Hm-.html
      Pioneer 620mm RTF - bit.ly/2YotgbY - ua-cam.com/play/PLXTH0DstRDc5DZarP-qgPO3IEliNvnPuP.html
      Both are excellent choices, given they're being sold in RTF (ready to fly). You just need 4 AA batteries for the Transmitter, and a few minutes to get the battery charged, and you'll be flying. Pick a calm day when you decide to take the plunge!

    Hello, great review as always. One thing about the transmitter. It does what it needs to do to fly the plane w authority. Although it can be seen as a hinderance to some, it is a great size for children to learn to fly. A full size transmitter can sometimes be to big for small hands. Most kids take to something this size much easier.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому

      Yeah, I agree - smaller is good for kids. My son could hardly fit onto an NX8 until very recently. The "Batman" controller was always a better fit when he was young...same here on this plane.

    Great video Brian. Unfortunately, in Upstate NY old man winter seemed to come out of no where and curtail my flying. I like this better than the Sports Cub S2. A lot more "solid" than the Sports Cub and better performance. Same price as the Turbo Timber which is better with flaps, and as of today 11/29 on sale for $129.99. I feel Arrow makes great RC planes and will certainly purchase soon. Thanks.

      I hate winter ;( As for this VS the Turbo Timber UMX....I agree about the basic plane, but the RTF makes this a GREAT choice for the newb...HH needs to get the Turbo Timber UMX in a RTF package ASAP ;)

  • @Jack-gy7cs
    @Jack-gy7cs 3 роки тому +2

    A brushless motor, wow. I would like to see all planes come with brushless motors. Megan had a bad day on the video following your flying. It made me realize just how stinking GOOD she usually is. Megans 'bad day' was very much like most others good days. She really has me spoiled on the videos, thanks for doing that. Those ailerons would make great flaps and use the end of the wing for outboard ailerons, not that it needs any modification. The UMX Turbo Timber has flaps and lights and is less money so I'll stay with mine but the Arrows Pioneer is a good plane.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому

      Yep - all these RTF's ought to be using Brushless now-a-days...and for the prices we're being expected to pay, DEFINATELLY need Brushless Motors.
      I noticed she missed the plane twice or three times, and that is SUPER uncommon!!!
      As for Turbo Timber UMX vs Pioneer, I agree - if you have a DSMX Tx, the Turbo Timber is probably a better option, but if you're new and have nothing yet...the Pioneer is an EXCELLENT choice!

    People just know that this plane is really nice I'm new and flew it the first time it was amazing and I was really excited to share this with my grandson but it broke on a minor landing crash . What broke was the servo horn for the stearing wheel and rudder so if you can get some spares or it's going to break on your plane also. I guess I could epoxy it?? But I shouldn't have to I know it's only 160 bucks but it's a lot of money for some of us. Just know the cub s at least has the parts for the repair. Good luck guys it is nice to fly but no parts listed for the repair.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      You can 100% sure fix it. I have fixed them with heat (flame), believe it or not. I'll take a paper clip, and then melt it into the two pieces of plastic, and then cover that with CA or some other glue (like epoxy, if necessary)....gotta just find a REALLY small one, or even a push pin you don't mind sacrificing. You can also make a plastic "alloy" and feed in a straw or stir, into the melt, and MAKE UP for the gaps....kinda like tig welding.
      Either way, I almost NEVER buy replacement parts, but I crash ALL the time - LOL ;)
      $160 planes are the hardest ones to find parts for, very unfortunately, but follow our link, and you can see what parts are actually available if my suggestion leaves you underwhelmed. Some guys will get TWO for their grandchildren or children, but I've always found I just can't bring myself to kill a perfectly good plane to fix another one - I just kill BOTH then have to fix them both - LOL ;)

    I bought this plane when it first came out and I absolutely love it. I'm a noob though. I've flown this plane in 20 mph wind gust and it handled it like a champ. I have to say now I'm eyeballing that new 6s habu with flaps but then I need a controller and I don't know how to link it to the plane But I digress. This pioneer for the price and has rudder control too has been great for me. I only got into rc planes in 2020 sitting at home during the rona going off.

Very is disappointing. Anyway, I really dig on your channel. I watch your unboxing and build videos on planes I probably won't ever get just because of all the info. Like I said I'm new to hobby. Hey Brian, I'm glad to say that I panicked over a easy fix thanks again for your suggestions on how to repair my broken servo horn on my pioneer cleaner. Moving forward I was testing my sugar before I had a meal last night because I'm diabetic of course and the test strip that I use is plastic with a strip of metal infused in it so I pulled out the plane pulled off the wheel from the tail started measuring can it hit me hey suggestions Brian gave me were great but I have something here that might work let me try and learn how to fix things with things I can find at home... So I said hey Jackson my grandson look what I figured out with Brian's help give me an idea to use my sugar test strip to maybe repair our plane 😁😁😁 he was very happy which made me very happy and I told him about you Brian. And how you encourage me to try and repair it so now I'm encouraged to encourage you to learn with me so when I'm not here anymore maybe you can do this and remember me okay so anyway I started measuring and I pulled your tail wheel away from the plane made a few bends in my plastic test strip dry fitted it heated up a small finishing nail and melted a few adjustment holes like in a servo horn for adjustments if needed. As I looked at him and was explaining what I was doing curiosity look on his face was priceless and I kind of think he understood so I pulled out some 5 minutes gorilla glue epoxy put a small amount on a piece of cardboard and he said ooh that stinks LOL as tears poured down my cheek. Happy ones but the same . Anyway we mixed and mixed and mixed and mixed and laughed and left and then I explained to him that this was an epoxy and what it was for so we took the fitted test strip and fitted it onto the tail and then the tail wheel under it with a small amount of epoxy. So we sat talked and left together and I explained about it it needing to set up and dry boy he didn't want to wait LOL I love this kid I hope he remembers me anyway today and grabbed him grandson let's go check out the plane OMG He was like a bullet so we went to the field where we took our maiden flight ✈️ and oh boy his eyes lit up his smile grew bigger and bigger and all I was worried about was hurting his feelings if I crashed his plane again. But it's okay I explained to him like you did to me and many others like me that watch your videos that we all will crash even after we're good as Brian Phillips it just happens sometimes and told him if I'm not here pick you up and fix it that I want you to fix it yourself and no you can do anything that we did together if I'm not here he did not understand what I was saying but he will one day back to the repair it works like a dream the metal and the test strip gave it some rigidity and I think it might be stronger than it was we flew it for about an hour and we both had a great time together so thank you Brian and film crew your wife of course me and my grandson will be watching you and your wife film more videos together as long as we can. It's just funny how I panicked and got upset over and easy fix and what came of it with my grandson and me it was priceless and for that I thank you Brian for the encouragement to try to repair our plane with anything that could have possibly help. Keep up the hard work you guys my grandson Jax and I will be watching and learning and hopefully getting better so I can get our Cessna HSD 2000mm before I go so we can fly it together 😁✈️😇

    Great video! I've been scrolling through the comments and it seems like you answer just about every one, so hopefully I can get some input to a question I had! Do you think you'd be able to use the floats from the UMX timber on the Pioneer? Looking at the underside of both, it looks like you'd just need to cut some slots into the Pioneer fuselage for the floats with an exacto knife? And then wrap some tape on the wire inserts for the floats to ensure a tight fit? I'm not sure if you have a set of UMX floats to check, but the UMX timber and Pioneer seem about the same size...
    For a first plane (I have 3D heli and quad experience, but no planes yet), the EPP foam Pioneer looks A LOT more resilient than the UMX timbers which are supposedly pretty fragile. I want to learn over grass, but I have a large pond in my back yard, and my main goal is for a small float plane... I have a multiprotocol radio, but the RTF Pioneer looks like an idiot proof, capable, and durable plane, but only if I can make the UMX floats (or some other float set from another micro, if there is one?) work on it - what do you think?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому +2

      You could also just make a plastic pocket with some old pop bottle material, then they'd be removable...
      Cut about 1" X 1" piece, and heat with low flame, then drape it over your steel float support. Then pinch it and allow it too cool...then you'll make a flat spot, then just glue this into a pocket you cut into two spots on the bottom of the fuselage....take care to keep this mechanics maintain the CG!!!!! Should work like a champ, or just steal part from an unfortunately crashed Timber. More than one way to skin that cat, to be 100% honest, but I think you can handle the basics.
      Good luck!
      And yes, I do try to reply to all comments, except for the super rude ones - I just block those and or the commenter. I have enough problems in my life, than to deal with jerks on my hobby channel. Thanks for being a part of this wonderful group of like minded rc addicts ;)

      Pioneer is a very good, but CLOSER to toy grade. The UMX Turbo timber is a more expensive choice with LED's and FLAPS...two features that I generally demand on a STOL plane, BUT this Pioneer is more resilient to damage do the foam choice. It's light, but still strong, and it had plenty of power! As for RTF vs BNF - I prefer BNF only because we have the gear to make this plane fly right now...but if I were a newer RC pilot, this would be a large cost issue to overcome. RTF means I can get it as a gift for someone that has nothing (well, 4 AA's)...so you have to weigh this into your decision.

    My Pioneer arrived yesterday. Unfortunately with the standard time change, it's dark by the time I get home from work, so I'll have to wait until this weekend to fly it. A couple of "duh!" questions if I may:
    1 - Am I correct in interpreting that the SAFE stabilization feature is engaged when the switch is flipped to the rear as you're looking at the face of the transmitter? I don't see a reference to it or markings on the radio. I see you marked it with a black marker, so I can't see it on this tiny screen.
    2- You mention two bind buttons, but I don't see you use them. It appears to bind by just turning on the transmitter then plugging in the battery. If so, then what are the buttons for?
    Thanks

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому +1

      1) There are TWO bind buttons on the transmitter - why??? I can't figure out - LOL
      2) Daylight savings time is so dumb...I want them to make the daylight savings adjustment the OTHER WAY!!!
      3) Stability mode (like SAFE) is back. This will auto level the plane. If in DOUBT please take the plane, get it powered up as usual, then throttle at 0%, and be careful...then flip the plane over in Stability mode (like SAFE) and see if the ailerons are trying to flip the plane back to level ;) This is a test you need to get used to doing every time you're in quesiton. You will need to do this when you advance to more sophisticated planes too, so start learning how to do it now, while it's easy ;)

      @@BrianPhillipsRC The funny thing is, I wish we'd stay on daylight savings time. On standard time, the rising sun is in my eyes driving to work in the morning and the setting sun is in my eyes when I'm driving home. Plus, it's dark by the time I get home so that nixes flying on weekdays until the time changes back to DST. Ugh.

    Hi Brian and the beautiful Megan
    How would you rate the arrows Vector against the Spektrum Safe which do think is the best OR are they both as good as one another ?.
    You could always glue a small cover on the landing gear anyway.
    Thumbs up anyway.
    Steve

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Steve
      Arrows Vector is one of the best alternatives to SAFE that we've used. We have used a LOT, btw....but they usually do TOO much or NOT enough. Vector seems to be a great balance of angle demand (auto-leveling) and limited bank and pitch angles...which makes the plane STILL FLYABLE.
      Is it BETTER than AS3X/SAFE - no.
      Is it worse than AS3X/SAFE - also, no.

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383 3 роки тому +2

      I was thinking the same thing, but I guess it really depends because this model is a ready to fly that comes with a battery, charger and transmitter, while the UMX Turbo Timber does not but it has flaps. Personally I'd buy the Turbo Timber if you're already in the hobby and have a transmitter, batteries and charger, otherwise buy this model as it comes with everything needed to get started.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому +1

      Turbo Timber is BETTER, but it's a BNF (bind and fly) meaning, if you don't have the Spektrum (or at least DSMX Transmitter) then you'll be into this UMX for probably 2-3 times what you're into the Pioneer.
      THAT BEING SAID - if you have the Transmitter, you might actually prefer the Timber UMX.
      I only say this because I wouldn't by a RTF for myself...BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO A NEWB - they won't have all that other stuff, so it quickly turns into a frustrating and expensive exercise in futility.
      Horizon NEEEEEEEEDS to make a RTF for the Timber, or they'll keep getting crushed by these RTF offerings, even if they are inferior in some ways.

      Your comment went to "Held for Review" due to this... " Guys.im " ....google thinks it's a link.
      Okay, I understand you're on a budget, and I don't want you to get discouraged...this is not uncommon to be frustrated after having a crash or issue that takes you out of the sky when you're all excited to fly. The plane you got is GOOD, but it's still SMALL...and you have to be super careful with them, even if they're better for strength than say, the Sport Cub S2 UMX (a great flying plane, but far less capable than you're, and way slower).
      I don't think you "should have bought the Carbon Cub SS 1.3m" - this would have been a lot more money.
      Based on your issues, you just need to get this plane flying. Thin control horns are always going to be an issue on SMALL planes, so I don't want you to go into this with unreasonable expectations. Planes are delicate...all of them, but you're still learning a lot and new, and this will be hard to hear, but you need to be SUPER careful with them. You're going to crash, and possibly break them (EASY) but this is one of the hard realities you'll face as you progress into the hobby. The feelings you're having are not out of ordinary, but you will have to start figuring out what you need to do to these "stock" planes to make then live a bit longer, if you have certain bad habits.
      Not sure if you got my reply the other day, but if you take a plastic bottle, you can really easily make a better, more strong control horn. It's not hard, but where you feel there's a weakness, you can improve upon these weaknesses with mods. I did TONS of this when I was new to the hobby.
      Anyway, I'm going to reply with my standard "Beginner planes" again, since there's links to the videos too, and maybe you just need a BIGGER plane that's going to give you a bit better chance at success, but don't be too hard on yourself...flying is HARD...it takes a lot of work and persistence to get where you want to be. Don't give up. Don't let your frustration cause you to quit. Focus your frustration into resolve and make use of it. You'll get there. Keep at it.

I was wondering are they made this way to take away some damage from the rest of the plane when they come out? You know like NASCAR are designed to come apart and take up energy to save the driver anyway what I'm saying is he said to glue a piece of foam and to hold the landing gear in you said put a piece of tape on it to hold it in a little tighter you think if they wanted it to be permanent they would have made it permanent do they make it to where it came out for a reason like NASCAR does she take up some energy instead of trashing something else on the plane thank you looking forward to your input and answer my grandson Jackson says what's up LOL
