I'm hunting around and can't seem to find a clear answer, in that you said setting custom fixed resolution in OpenXr overrides the game and everything else stopping it from jumping around then you said you recommend 60- 70% in the game?? Why would it matter what it is in the game if its being ignored?? Which is it? are they two different things perhaps, is it 60-70 rendering OF the custom resolution you chose? but then that leads me to thing why would you want to just set the appropriate res and render 100% of it??? ahh, I'm confused haha
@@bournejsn hi, the difference is open xr sets the render scale for the system. Just setting it in flightsim does not stop windows from adjusting the scale. So when testing out your various MSFS settings you don’t get misleading results as windows is changing parameters in the background. Happy holidays 👍

We've got the exact same CPU and GPU.. Just received my Pimax 5K Super and haven't had a chance to set up MS Flight Sim in VR, but having someone with almost the same exact setup is good to see. Hoping this runs great

It worked great for 2 months, then suddenly stopped working.
I'm getting 3 dots in the headset, I've done about 8 hours worth of troubleshooting and I've been exchanging emails with oculus support for 3 weeks and still no further forward.
If it don't get sorted soon I'm gonna be sending it back to amazon for a refund or replacement.
Very poor service from oculus, my warranty is running down while it's out of commission......

Might be a little late but for the FPS not showing in VR try use an virtual Desktop in VR might help if u just open it for a few sec to take a look at it
I flew Falcon3 on a 486 and it was less painful than the last three years of VR.
great vid I am really having problems with the VR I have Oculas quest 2 When I change settings and go back to VR it just makes a mess. Also I find it so difficult to set up Do i need to have both oculas software and VR steam installed. Just seems to really slow things down,. I can run FS in normal mode in ultra on my rig. I must be doing somthing wrong

You can get a single view to record, use the vr window / view option in WMR and record that screen. Regards

Excellent as always, thanks for sharing. I have an RTX3090 AND the G2 and will try out the VR in MSFS2020 soon. If I ever have to lean in to read the instruments then it’s a waste of time. I’m back to the only other VR headset I ever (briefly) owned nearly 4yrs ago. The Oculus Rift was in my opinion useless for flight sim because of horrendous screen door etc. But most of all leaning forward to read big instruments was a killer. I seriously hope this is not the case this time around. Your video has raised some concerns I thought had gone away. Let you know. 🥺😱
Even Reverb G2 owners with excellent inbuilt resolution have to dial this down to 60% to get a performance somewhere near 20 to 30 fps ^^. Don't want to disencourage you, but for sure you'll have to lean forward to read instruments. I really struggled with my Valve Index, and gave up on this until they release a acceptable VR implementation. And I will never complain about DCS's performance in VR again 😂
Ooops. Not what I was expecting. If you can’t read the instruments without leaning forward the you can’t see in the distance either. Bugger!

I know this is an old entry but just wondering how you get outside views in VR. I press the tab key select outside view it goes outside but there is no return to

Great video, thanks for sharing! I noticed you mention you had the HP Reverb Pro. I understand I have the same headset (the name in amazon is 'HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset - Professional Edition') but I cannot make FS2020 run in VR despite having tried many configurations. The headset runs well in WMR portal, but when I switch to VR in FS2020, main main screen splits into two, sound starts going through the headset and I can see some luminosity through the headset, but no image. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks a lot in advance.
When you say the screen splits into two....is it the separate lenses showing on screen, because this is normal for MSFS. Check your settings in windows via control panel MIXED REALITY then headset display...change to default ( let windows decide). I assume your not going via steam but directly through windows mixed realty. Does it work with any other application other than the WMR Portal?
@@SimHangerFS thanks a lot for your reply. When I was saying 'the screen splits into two' I understand that each smaller screen correspond to each of the eyes in the headset. Didn't know that was standard FS behaviour, I would have expected the main screen to remain the same. I checked the settings on the WMR portal and all of them are in 'Let Windows Decide'. Regarding other apps running in WMR portal, I was able to use the headsets in VR and open apps that come in the portal by default (such as the under the sea app). I can not discard the possibility of me doing something stupid with Windows as I'm a Mac user. I bought the PC and headset just to put together the sim (I'm a PPA student). Don't have experience with other apps. Once again thanks a lot for your help.
how can i check my fps when i play in vr? if bought it in ms store and im on a g2
Probably a silly question but I've not seen any reference to this anywhere. I have a honeycomb yoke and soon (hopefully) a honeycomb throttle set. How does VR work with these peripherals? I worry they are not usable (switches especially) unless you memorise their position in space as you can't physically see them with a headset in place. Or am I missing something?
Hi Alan, not a silly question at all. You can not see the peripherals with the headset on, this is not an issue using the yoke, but can be for switches and throttle etc. Many simmers use the mouse etc in the cockpit for these controls. Regards
Wow your game looks really smooth. I am running a 9900k at 4.ghz and a 2080TI however I notice a lot more choppiness. From what I can see in the video, you have your VR settings quite high. Are those your settings from 2:21?

Anyway we can see the part that was cut from the video? The part where you actually switch from normal to VR mode. I've made all the setting changes and used the same key bindings but the game does not respond to the key bindings. VR still works with other games so not sure what the deal is.
I have reinstalled 3 times now. when I choose the vr mode where you get the tab and shift+ tab keys for you to change if you wish. Recentre pilot seat etc I have nothing. just the list. Dosnt show the defaut keys and I cant change anything ?
Before you activate VR mode go into options, then controls, choose your input device, on the left side filter "all", collapse all. Under "Camera" and "VR" you can setup a binding for all you need in VR

Will MSFS support Varjo headset? I want to use a green screen for outside visuals but still use my physical cockpit with G1000. I need to see my hands, make notes, look at approach plates. I need the correct haptic feeling of actually turning knobs etc
It will support WMR based headsets only, and not controllers at this time.
I have noticed that with aircraft that have the Garmin G1000, there is a noticeable frame rate drop. Same for you?
Yes I have, turn the instrument refresh rate down to medium helps. Regards
A great start for VR for MSFS, but some way from being a finished product. It is not as demanding system wise as feared, but none-the-less if you want to use it with add-ons and high density areas you are going to need a reasonably powerful PC. Microsoft recommend a minimum GTX 1080 graphics card and an i5 processor, but to get full use of VR I would recommend something around the 2080 super upwards, ideally an RTX3070 and an i7 processor. Stay safe and have a great holiday season. 2021 has just got to be a better year for all.
Is there anyway to get the tutorials to show controls for VR hand controllers. I can't find anything online that says how to get the game to stop showing the GUI for mouse and keyboard.

The one thing I wanted to know isn't covered in the video: How do the additional ingame windows (weather, map, communication etc.) work in vr?
They work fine, and can be resized (Reverg G2).

is the OpenXR Developer Tools for Windows Mixed Reality also for my "old" HTC Vive? because after installation, msfs says: No HMD found!
Hi, no Vive have their own modified version of the VR software that is installed when you first get the machine plugged in. The Open XR tool will not work with it. The Vive can also work vis SteamVR. Regards

Does this work with Oculus Rift S? I've no problem running other games but Flight Simulator never works, even when launching it through VR and trying to active it with ctrl+tab in game.

I downloaded a free version of this game. It was Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 only. Unfortunately, when I go to options and then to general, in the list tab, I don't see the last option called VR mode. It is missing in the game I downloaded it in. This means that I can't play this game in immersive VR.

I got a Rift S last night. Flight sim wont switch to vr and in the goggles, im just sitting there on the oculus home screen. Does anyone know of a video about actually connecting a VR headset to Flight Sim? (first time VR user here)

I did not realize that the VR headset hand controllers could not be used. It is soooo much easier to just reach out and move a lever than to assign buttons and blindly try to find them to fly...

I agree. Just tested it and hoped it would be like X-Plane 11's VR which is by far the best out there, where you can interact with the cockpit using the hand controls. For that I have one VR controller on my right side, usually placed on a chair next to me when not in use, as well as a real flight yoke + throttle for actual flying. Oh and rudder pedals. Best of both worlds. Really disappointed that MSFS doesn't even see the VR controllers. :/ Mouse is so clunky.
@ziher123 If you are just going to fly around I can see using a joystick. But to me if you intend to try to be the most familiar with the plain, using the motion hand controllers force you to know where each lever/button are in the cockpit.
@@pauldefaire MSFS VR blows away Legoplane Vr out of the water. Best VR of any flightsim out there.
for the people without this expencive cable , this is hell tryna get this to work, i got my oculus quest 2 yesterday and i've done nothing else than downloading the one software after the other to try and get this to work properly. I've spent 16 hours now since i got this headset to make it work with steam vr and microfost flight sim and subnautica. It's hell! And a very complicated software !

Make sure to update your drivers... except when using AMD and you sometimes need to use outdated drivers xD
Hi, anyone know what the min specs are for running the game in VR, i have the following.
Intel i7-7700k @ 4.20Ghz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 -6gb
16Gb ddr4 4.2ghz
Oculus Rift.
The game crashes when i try to launch iv VR, other vr games run fine, skyrim, fallout4, Project Wingman, X-Planes 11, starwars squadrons, Elite Dangerous and War thunder all run ok

Does VR mode not have full vr controls yet? Im a VR gamer and Ive wanted this game for ages (I remember growing up with it in the late 90's!) But Im pretty hardcore into my VR now and I found it very hard for me personally to sit at the PC in front of screens with all my VR getup on too. If you still have to do all the main controls via the mouse keyboard I'll wait a bit longer, as im sure full vr support will hit this game eventually and ive waited a long time already XD so a little longer wont hurt.

Lets hope the VR software works better than the rest of FS2020. Before VR they would have been better sorting out many of the existing software errors first,
Mark, as the VR experience is engrossing but still suboptimal, after the graphic-setting adjustments you suggest, which hardware upgrade might show the larger improvement, CPU or GPU? UA-camr, Xcheck, has an RTX 3090 but still describes performance as so "terrible" that he can't use VR for "more than 10 minutes" without troublesome nausea, whereas he can use it on DCS for hours without a problem. That gives me little hope for improvement any time soon.
The key is to turn down the render setting to provide a smoother performance, even at 60% the visuals are still immersive. CPU ...needs to be reasonably beefy, but not extreme. Regards

Very true, but I asked AFTER the graphic settings you suggest, which hardware upgrade is likely to help more with VR, CPU or GPU?
@@Buddy308 both are important, depends where you are starting from, for me an RTX 3070 would be ideal and the biggest boost overall to performance is the CPU....i7 or upwards. Regards

If I have an RTX 3080 and a Ryzen 3600XT, and the sim plays great in 2D but poorly in VR, would it do much good to upgrade the CPU? It's probably better to ask whether, in general, VR seems to be more GPU constrained or CPU constrained at moderate resolutions like 1080 and 1440.
@@Buddy308 for your system the GPU is top end. Upgrading your CPU will give you the best improvement. VR is heavy on CPU perhaps look to a Ryzen 5000 series or Intel 10900 series. Regards
Would an RTX 2080 perform fine with this game at 1440p? I hear a lot of people complain about frame rate that have 30 series cards however they’re usually at 4K
Yes it wou;d be okay at 1440p with medium settings.

@@SimHangerFS thanks again, I found a similar view under Microsoft WMR it’s on the main screen where you see the Black VR picture. Just hit the play button to stream.
I have tested CV1 and Valve Index with I7 9700K, 32GB 3200 ram,RTX 2080 Super and 1T NvMe.
Valve Index is almost unusable even with lowest settings possible and render scaling between 60-80...below 60 is to grainy and above 80 there is a lot of sttuters.
CV1 is a better.It is almost fluid and usable on reccomended VR settings,but of course, base image quality of headset is worse than Valve.
Anyway,I am not sure if this can be additionaly optimised by ASOBO team or we realy need new expensive hardware...
I was under impression that I have HIGH END machine esspecialy having in mind how well its running MS2020 on 2K monitor (all settings are on ultra),but it looks like it's not enough for VR....very dissapointing...

You need to allocate this function to a key or button. In sim under option then VR mode.

What do you do to stop the 'strobe' effect on the HP Reverb G2 (v2)? Just getting annoying, flying with it! The whiter the colours, the worse it is. FYI, I run a Ryzen 9, 64GB RAM and a nice Radeon RX 6900XT graphics card - so should cope with the VR quite easily!
Make sure your headset is running at 90hz and not 60Hz. In windows mixed reality settings.

3080Ti is just chewing through this Sim in vr. i did try to take a 3090 out of one of my mining rigs but the performance between the two was not noticeable so 3080it it is!
Why won’t my ps5 or Xbox controller work in steam vr steam is detecting my controllers but when I load up steam vr nothing works.

@@santer4688 This means the sim does not see the headset. You can test this by using the shortcut CTRL - TAB with the headset connected in sim. You may need to reinstall your headset software.

How do you download it on steam with a code?
I’m not 100% sure, I purchased and downloaded direct from Microsoft. I guess you go to purchase MSFS on Steam, enter code to prevent being charged again and download. Regards

Happy Xmas my friend. 😁 once open xr is installed it runs in the background automatically with WMR so no need to have it open, windows does this for you.
