  • Today, I made a shepherd sling with a leather pouch using 3/32 paracord for the strings. I like this simple design so I can replace the strings easily when they wear out. It also makes it easier to release your ammo with this pouch verses the one I made like a dreamcatcher. it is my theory that using this thinner cord will help me get a faster throw when I get good at using the sling.

    Thanks Brian. I recently made a Staff Sling (Fustibalus) using a Sycamore as the stave/staff simply because it is strong enough and grows upright. Anyway, the type of sling you made in this video would be fine for the job, but I personally used thick, corded cotton on mine because the sling is meant to launch larger stones, more like fist-sized stones. If you find that your stones are throwing downwards with the staff sling, then that means the sling is too long. Mine is short as staff slings go, but I have found that a 4ft (120cm) staff with a 1ft (30cm) sling, throws a fist sized rock a good 50 foot.

    I made one almost identical using your video as a guide, only diffrence was i used 2 ply reverse wrapped twine for my chords. Really tough design that throws like a dream

    You'd probably have better luck with an overhand swing. It's a more natural motion. Also if you keep hitting to the left rotate your body slightly to the right by moving your back leg to the left.

  • @AmericaFirstNow
    @AmericaFirstNow Рік тому +1

    I've never worked a sling before, but , watching you throw it naturally goes left. Don't fight it. Turn your body to the right a little.

    Your shots constantly travel in line with your feet. May I suggest you line your feet up with target.

    instead of drilling the primer out, open your vice up about 1/8th of an inch, set your EMPTY cartridge case on top with the primer over the gap. then take a 1/16th inch punch, stick it down into the case through the flash hole and tap with a hammer. the primer will pop right out. or find someone who reloads, whatever caliber, and have them punch out a few cases for you.

    Ok what's the threaded hole in the hatchet head for?
    Soon as it hit the table I jumped up!
    I've never thought about that but having had so many axe and busting maul heads come loose while in the woods. That would be handy. A threaded hole with an alien set screw/ bolt what ever you call it run into the head and against the handle.
    And lock tighted.
    As secondary tensioner.
    I usually keep some dry wall screws in the chain saw tools bag. And just run one in when the handle gets loose as quick fix. Looks like hell though.

      Lol You’re right, it is for an allen set screw. Personally, I don’t like using it because I like to be able to tap the handle out easily. It drops in from the top and can be tapped in tight without a wedge

    Hello, I use the same sling as you with leather bands and it often shoots to the left too, while with another made of rope I shoot straight, I don't know if it's because of the leather bands

    Before I "steal" your idea. How good is the accuracy and consistent release of ammo with this design?

    • @BriansAmericanMade
      @BriansAmericanMade  2 роки тому +1

      Honestly, it seams pretty consistent, but I can’t really say on the accuracy because I’m just not that good with a shepherd sling yet.

    • @BriansAmericanMade
      @BriansAmericanMade  Рік тому

      The leather pieces are 3/4” x 4.” However, I found out after the video that 3/4” x 4-1/2” might be better for golf balls.
