Shepherd Sling Backdrop

It's amazing what you can do with just some paracord and a painter's drop cloth. I made this shepherd sling backdrop so I can practice my slinging without loosing ammo.

Easy Leather Pouch Shepherd Sling
Переглядів 17 тис.2 роки тому
Today, I made a shepherd sling with a leather pouch using 3/32 paracord for the strings. I like this simple design so I can replace the strings easily when they wear out. It also makes it easier to release your ammo with this pouch verses the one I made like a dreamcatcher. it is my theory that using this thinner cord will help me get a faster throw when I get good at using the sling.

My brother and I took a weekend canoe/kayak trip on the Neuse river from Raleigh to Smithfield. We navigated some rocks, paddled as much as we could stand and found a place to set up camp. We had a blast! Hope you enjoy the video! #NeuseRiver #Canoeing #Kayaking #camping #fishing
Alaskan Adventure Part 7 - Fishing for salmon out of Wittier Alaska
Переглядів 562 роки тому
In this video, we take a charter out of Wittier, Alaska to fish for Silver Salmon! We all caught our limit by 11:30 and made it back to shore just in time to beat a storm. It was an amazing trip and I even caught a halibut!
Alaskan Adventure Part 6 - The "Other Shenanigan" - Buyers Lake, Denali National Forest
Переглядів 342 роки тому
In this video we drive up to Buyers lake in Denali National Forest. We rented a few boats for a pretty decent price and spent a couple hours on the lake. We saw some swans, ducks, and loons. It was pretty cool to hear the loons call out on the lake. That was one of my favorite parts.
Alaskan Adventure Part 5 - Alaskan River Trail

This is one of a couple "shenanigans" we did in-between "big" days while we were in Alaska. This was one of my favorite spots because of the view. I wish I had more time to explore it!
Alaskan Adventure Part 3 - Montanuska Glacier Tour
Переглядів 413 роки тому
In this video we take a trip to the Montanuska Glacier! It was an awesome trip and seemed like we were walking on another planet. I highly recommend you check it out if you ever get to visit Alaska. They used to let you walk around on the glacier without a guide, but that is no longer allowed. It is guided tours only now.
Alaskan Adventure Part 2 - Boat tour of the Kenai Fjords
Переглядів 483 роки тому
This is the second video in a series of adventures in Alaska. In this video, we traveled to Seward, Alaska to take a ride on a tour boat. We saw otters, porpoises, jellyfish, mountain goats and whales! We also got a chance to see many of the glaciers that Alaska has to offer. It was the biggest boat I have ever been on and it was great trip.

    Ok what's the threaded hole in the hatchet head for? Soon as it hit the table I jumped up! I've never thought about that but having had so many axe and busting maul heads come loose while in the woods. That would be handy. A threaded hole with an alien set screw/ bolt what ever you call it run into the head and against the handle. And lock tighted. As secondary tensioner. I usually keep some dry wall screws in the chain saw tools bag. And just run one in when the handle gets loose as quick fix. Looks like hell though.

    • @BriansAmericanMade

      Lol You’re right, it is for an allen set screw. Personally, I don’t like using it because I like to be able to tap the handle out easily. It drops in from the top and can be tapped in tight without a wedge

    You'd probably have better luck with an overhand swing. It's a more natural motion. Also if you keep hitting to the left rotate your body slightly to the right by moving your back leg to the left.

    Thanks Brian. I recently made a Staff Sling (Fustibalus) using a Sycamore as the stave/staff simply because it is strong enough and grows upright. Anyway, the type of sling you made in this video would be fine for the job, but I personally used thick, corded cotton on mine because the sling is meant to launch larger stones, more like fist-sized stones. If you find that your stones are throwing downwards with the staff sling, then that means the sling is too long. Mine is short as staff slings go, but I have found that a 4ft (120cm) staff with a 1ft (30cm) sling, throws a fist sized rock a good 50 foot.

    • @BriansAmericanMade
      @BriansAmericanMade Рік тому

      It’s actually holding up pretty good. I’ve had it hanging in the back glass of my pickup truck. After making it, I realized that the paracord I used was not not true 550 cord. True 550 cord would be a little stiffer and probably better.

    • @BriansAmericanMade
      @BriansAmericanMade Рік тому

      Mine doesn’t quite seem stiff enough to feel like a traditional lasso or riata. I didn’t learn that traditional riata makers pull really tight on each strand periodically as they braid it and I didn’t do that. If I were to do that and use the real paracord, I think it would work really well. I will probably make another one one day to test the theory. It’s not bad though. It is still throwable.

    Great vid! I liked and subbed! I've got the axe but not the machete (yet) and love the heck out of it! I choose not to throw my weapons, but that's just me and I find it's too blade heavy as a defensive tool unless I had no other options. What do I love about it? It's cool as f**k It chops better than any hatchet I've owned in that price range (but I don't own an Estwing hatchet to compare) If I dull it chip 1 blade on a job, I've a second one so I can continue/complete the job. Did I mention that it's cool as f**k? Lastly, it's shaving sharp and attached to my headboard along with my Cold Steel Trench Bowie as my self defense tools. Amy chance at seeing a video with these 2 tools doing other things besides throwing? Have a wonderful day!

    instead of drilling the primer out, open your vice up about 1/8th of an inch, set your EMPTY cartridge case on top with the primer over the gap. then take a 1/16th inch punch, stick it down into the case through the flash hole and tap with a hammer. the primer will pop right out. or find someone who reloads, whatever caliber, and have them punch out a few cases for you.
