  • This vlog episode catches up on the last couple of studio sessions that I was hired to play on. The first artist in the vlog is Ben Becker. He’s a talented singer and all of the songs you hear during the session at Blue Grotto Sound were written by him. I want to also thank James Hatem and Roland for loaning me a Roland SPD-SX sampling pad to use. The second artist I played for is Laura Sawosko and she’s the writer and singer on the second session songs. I thoroughly enjoy being a session musician for these and other artist and I actually feel quite comfortable in a studio setting. Recording songs is something I’ve done just about every week for a couple of years now and it’s a process that I find completely rewarding.
It’s been two weeks since my last upload and I’ve been using the Community tab on my channel a little bit lately to do a poll and touch base with some subscribers. If you go to my home page on UA-cam, there are several main categories on the top. One of those tabs is called Community and it’s an area where I can post unlisted videos, polls, pictures and other things that are just for Subscribers. I will continue to use this section so if you really want to know what’s going on in-between videos, that might be a good place to look. This link should take you directly there if you’d like to take a look - / miamialynn
I’m 14 years old and I want to be a professional musician when I grow up. I try to play lots of instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend some of my time trying to learn the magic of songwriting. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 4 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing it, keep loving music and keep getting better.

:) I wondered if that would be boring so I'm glad you liked that section. It was a unique gig to be basically covering drum machine parts which is part of the reason I took the job. Thanks John.

Thanks! I've been thinking about what might make a good video, (which is always tough for me) so I can go ahead and release that song. I'll think more on it. I play with 5 country artists every Monday night and I think it's live on Periscope? If she's really into that sort of thing, she might find it by searching The Song Suffragettes. They usually have some pop in the round depending on the week.

I know the whole "holy crap she's 14?!" thing has been done to death, but if there weren't videos of her when she was 10 and actually looked at least close to 10, no one would believe she's not an adult pretending to be young for popularity or something lol

This is a very cool Vlog! One thing I noticed, When you're in studio reviewing the song, about the 2:22 mark, the comment about the "808 hit on she's already doing it" and your comment "Really?" just shows that through your talent, hard work and countless hours of practice You've developed good musical intuition and "You're already doing it!" Hey Mia, I wanted to let you know that you're awesome. A lot of people in the world like to push the idea that you can't follow your dreams. But don't listen to them. You're going to get people wanting to tear you down because they're disappointed that they aren't reaching their full potential. I love your humility, but let 2019 be the year that you boldly and fearlessly pursue your passions.
I've seen you say that it was a long shot to be a professional drummer. I've seen you say that you're hopeful that you can do drumming for a living. I want you to throw those thoughts away. You are good enough, and not to mention you strike me as an incredibly easy person to work with. Hi Mia. Thanks so much for this vlog! I love seeing the adventures you get up to. You must know by now how big a fan I am of yours... I hope so, you are magnificent!!!!
I hope you enjoy being in a studio as well as on stage, as you can expect so many more jobs and offers. Get use to it!
That was really lovely of Roland to help you out with the loaner. Do you think its something you will add to your instrment collection?
Ben Becker sounded great and anyone who offers you work sure has a great ear for music. So knowing you are on the recordings means I am going to have to do some listening when those tracks are released. Who buys music just for the drummer? Well heck yes I do! With the future ahead of you, I think I'm gana end up broke! haha. But so worth it to hear you play. I love all you do with music and you got me hocked big time on anything you do with music. Keep your own music coming too please if folks leave you enough time. Its more than the drums that has me hocked on your music. Its the whole music package.
I am also truly thankful for the times you reply. Never expected, always appreciated, and I know the day is coming where it will be impossible for you to reply to fans. So thank you ever so much MIa. You made this fan so happy and you have my support for life!

I love the studio work. I told the Roland rep that all it would take for me to want that set up was a call from Ben saying he's got some live shows to do. I hope it happens because his songs require a very unique sort of playing. I'll let you know if I hear about Ben's project. Don't worry, I've been working on some of my own stuff during this holiday break from school :)
