Shinhan gouache is sold out on Jackson's, however it is available on Amazon (US): amzn.to/3VcPwjh Alas, my wait for set A continues lol I hope you enjoy the video x
Sketches, I wish you lived on this side of the pond, you could have a full time side job just spotting & notifying us about Sales & Deals for Art Supplies! You have my total Love & Respect 😘
Loool, thank you so much Nancy :D deal spotting is a hobby I enjoy loool I do sometimes share them in my community tab on youtube and membership when I find really good ones. x x
Buggar! Just went to Jacksons to add the ShinHan Set B to my (ever growing) cart but they've sold out and so I've gone on the list. That said, I doubt very much if they'll stand by the Black Friday deal when they get them back in. The Set B has been on my Amazon Wishlist for over a year now but it's never gone on sale there. Anyhoo, another super ab fab vid. Cheers x
I'm jealous and not used to how quickly you receive your Jackson's orders! 😂 Glad you snatched some great deals! Oh yes the shinhan pass full set has like… 6 or 7 colors that are fluorescent, and you absolutely cannot tell from the name. As you probably already know, I love my set! So much so that I created yet another landscape with it after the session. Yes most of them are lightfast ratings of just 1 or 2 stars, but I saw a blogpost where the person mentioned they did their own lightfast test for 3 months in a south facing window and only the pink had some discernible color change. So it might not be as bad as we imagine. For me though I got them at ~half price and it was ~$2 a tube, so that made it super worth it, and I can accept the lower lightfast rating at that price. The colors are actually nice and complete in the full set, like I wasn’t left wanting for more. Loving it and super glad I semi impulsed purchased it!
Maybe the binder is what left the thicker strokes drying shinier. I wonder if it's gum Arabic or something else. Honestly it sounds like Pass might not be what you're looking for. But that's just how it sounded to me. That you have watercolour and gouache for when you feel like one of those mediums and their uses/finishes. Instead of going for something that tries to do a bit of both. But the colours are definitely very fun and vibrant.
Hahaha, you're definitely not talking to yourself. Also, I'm afraid I love the lemon yellow. I'm always on the lookout for a fabulously neon yellow 👍🏻Bye 🇦🇺
Some artists seem to love it, and that’s great! But it doesn’t sound like it’s the one for you. You have a few to play with already, so, in my opinion, no need to get the full set when you can stick with what you love! You have so many lovely supplies that you can enjoy 🫶
For me, like with most mediums, I find if I approach with low expectations LOL😋 and just try to figure out how the paints etc work with what paper, what technique I have more fun. Then again, I am spoiled by Holbein & the designers Shinhan gouache. I’m sure I’m also influenced by cost. I bought the full set of Pass last Black Friday after using many open stock colors and finding them fun…I luv that opera & is worth it, lightfast or not 😎. I hope you get lots of gouache fun outta your holiday haul 💜😊🎉
Yay! So glad that you have some Shinhan gouache and pass paint! They’ve become my new favorite!! I loveee the pass paints. I’m actually painting with them right now as I watch your video! lol
Thank you so much for watching and sharing! Did you have the shininess I noticed too or was it just a random odd event? Alas, they are now out of stock lol but good for me to know for next time a deal comes around x x
@ these paints are not meant to be used straight out of the tube. They are meant to be watered down and layered. It’s very hard to describe in the comment section, but when you add water to them, it changes the consistency like you wouldn’t believe. These paints are an absolute dream! Try going from watercolor and then layering up to gouache opacity. Using the paint straight out of the tube allows the paint just to dry as is, without diluting the binder. So the shine that you’re getting is dried binder essentially. Does that make sense…? I hope it helps. I’m actually a friend of the brand, they recently sent me a set. And I had the benefit of talking with them extensively about how to use the paints before they sent them to me. But there’s lots of videos out there so have a look about how others handle the medium. Becca Hilburn did a great one several years back, so did Lindsay. Becca does such extensive videos too, so she really went in depth. Watch a few videos, and then give them another shot. I’m sure you’ll fall in love!
Just started watching and wanted to add that you totally made me want to try the Shinhan gouache set but it was sold out on Jackson's. I thought I'd try on Amazon US and actually found it there for 50$. Set A was also available so definitely worth checking in different places! Ok, watching on 😊
Nice Black Friday haul! I would say lean toward getting a 12 set of the Shin Han Gouache to complement your B set vs getting more ShinHan Pass since you got a nice palette of colors in this haul. The Shin Han Gouache 12 set has Black and White and other colors that are in A. (Carmine, Scarlet Red, Permanent Yellow Orange, Permanent Yellow, Permanent Green Light, Viridian, Turquoise Blue, Ultramarine Light, Violet, Burnt Sienna, Ivory Black, Permanent White which i think is PW6)
Uh, oh. Amazon has set A for $45 and set B for $50 today. Guess Ill have to wake up Santa, and feed him before I show him what a good deal these are...lol! Wish me luck!
😂 i got the shinhan and both holbein sets too😂😂😂 thank you for this video😊(and i got some khadi because i love that and when you are paying for delivery....😅)
This is timely. I have eyeballed the hybrid set a few times. I think it's a no for me. I will get gouache or get watercolor and not try to double-dip in one product.
Fun video! I’ve had the ShinHan gouache set A and B on my Amazon wishlist for quite a while, still hoping Santa might bring it to me for Christmas🎅😆 I don’t think the combination gouache/watercolor paints would be for me. I really dislike watercolors that go shiny.
@@ElleWhyBeeI know I keep looking but really shouldn’t spend the money. 😆 I’ll keep them on my Amazon wishlist for my UA-camrs and see what happens. I keep telling myself that I have tons of paint and really can live without getting more 😄
Thank you so much Marie Louise! Lol :D Always nice to know :P Oh no! I'm sorry, I hope more come on Friday hopefully! The Shinhan pass has sold out lol so I guess I'll have to decide on whether to get it the next sale that comes round :D x
And, the way you describe everything is exactly the way I'd want to if I had your talent, and the only difference would be the same word order but with my American accent. Yours is much better, so I won't even try!
@@artandmusic09 when I started my watercolour journey I bought many tubes of Holbein ( I was so new, that I didn’t know what I should have… didn’t have the internet back then ). Have over 50 tubes & only a handful are lightfast. Live & Learn 😏
@@nancylemon4120 Good to know, Holbien's set of 60 is living in the back of my mind, but I may be better off with just hand picking a few colors! Thanks again!
I have a full set haven't had any issues. That said I do multi layers and mix brands and plan for fading so work colors deep in case. Many colors in any company fade even if they say they are lightfast due to tests done in mass tone when tested and not deluted. Daniel smith sleeping beauty or moonglow and some genuine line is said to be a prime example by some.
@@twk8520 True. You never know what tests brands are doing. Holbien ratings just seem to be pretty poor on average. Of course, I'd have to do my own testing. I also work in minimum layers, so I guess it's personal as well. thanks for your input!
Holbien is on sale for Black Friday at pretty great prices....15ml tubes being %35-45 off...got a 15ml tube of turquoise that retails for $11, got it for $6. Some are as much as $10 off!!

I love the Shinhan Pass paints, but they're definitely more for sketchbook work. Although, they're most likely meant for prints!
Thank you Sketches - nothing seems in stock near me! It doesn't surprise me you have even more bright pinks 🤣
the Opera looks super-bright on camera, it must be blinding in real life! I'm still not convinced I need this, that makes a nice change :D

Anyone who owns Holbein can correct me>>>>>is it just me, or does the Holbein brand just not have very lightfast colors????
