  • Miami is one of the world's biggest cruise ports. Ships from Royal Caribbean, Carnival, NCL, Virgin, Disney, and more cruise from the harbour close to Miami Beach. There are a few good reasons to cruise from Miami, but many, many more bad reasons to stay on Miami Beach / South Beach. Check out all the things that happened when trying to enjoy my stay at the Bentley Hotel on Collins Ave. #miami #cruise #cruise ship

Morgan... last weekend, I stayed at a hotel in Vero Beach, Florida with a friend. The bathroom door was a barn door style with gaps even when it was closed! The first thing I said was "NOT Morgan approved!" He had no idea what I was talking about, so I showed him your channel, and you now have a new fan. 😂

As a person who works at a hotel, it’s difficult to give a refund to someone who books through third party websites like Expedia. Because technically you paid Expedia not the hotel. So I’m a lot of these cases there’s not much the hotel can do as far as refunds or discounts.

I have to tell you. Your videos are worth watching from start to finish. I'm starting to skip through others that I watch because redundancy. Your content is always fresh and unique. I was staying at a hotel in Orlando before a cruise. I got an email before we got there that informed us of construction that would be going on. It was starting 2 days after we were to check out. They sent it to EVERYONE who had a reservation. This is the way.

A very similar experience happened to me in Ft. Lauderdale - I took photos of the room condition (just nothing like what the website showed, as well as being in B-A-D- shape) and emailed Expedia with the photos. I was stunned when they refunded my money for my stay (one night, pre-cruise). You might give that a try ~

Expedia are great, I recently had a bad hotel experience in Alicante, Spain. Stayed one night, called Expedia, and within 10 minutes they had called the hotel and advised me the hotel would be refunding one night, no argument. I will always book through Expedia for this reason, at least you have a 3rd party to assist when things go badly.

As a Miami Beach REAL local. I totally understand your frustration and I'm so sorry you had these predatory experiences they're such an embarrassment to real residents. However, I promise our whole city is not a scam :( Businesses that are geared towards tourists (commonly known as tourist traps in ALL cities) will price gouge and use shady practices to bring in bigger sales. Which is absolutely gross. But please don't stay on Ocean Drive and don't eat in chains or tourists traps and think that's all our home provides 🙈 Stay South of Fifth and eat LOCAL. The beach, South Pointe park, cafes, world class dining, and very nice locals are all here to be enjoyed. Ocean Drive is architecturally beautiful but it's not a true representation of SoBe. Pls come back 🤍

The exact bar drink scam happened to us in Miami Beach when we went in June. It made me quite mad and the service was bad too. It was very pretty but we learned Miami Beach was not our scene.

Yep us too. Miami is a huge scam. Duped on drinks - Bacardi Coke $25, mug of Miller Lite $15. And the food menus are monstrously overpriced. It was cool once to see the Art Deco District etc. but now we avoid Miami and stay elsewhere.

They pushed you to your limit!😤 They should have notified you as soon as the pool etc were closed! Or even better they should have warned you about the possibility at the time of booking, that's just the expected level of customer service! I should know, I am a Senior Customer Service Administrator for where I work, we make sure clients are aware of any problems, and still delivery a better service than expected. Luckily Miami is not a place I have ever wanted to go! Love you insight. 💖

Last time we went to Florida we couldn't decide between 2 hotels. We reserved one, then hubby started reading reviews and found out there was construction. He called and they did it was "just in the lobby". He still decided to cancel. Any construction is too much. Last year we stayed in a hotel in Quebec City. There was a fire a few buildings down and we lost power for 3-4 hours. Of course hubby complained to get a discount! Many people just left after 2 hours

Went to London this summer with a package on Eurostar & I hated our hotel. It was hot, noisy & we were there 5 days with no housekeeping service. I was going to complain on their website afterward but in order to email you needed their reservation number but I only had the Eurostar reservation number. I was miserable but oh well. Lesson learned.

that happened to us at the sheraton grand salzburg. the hotel told us we could not hear the constructiion because they weren't putting anyone in rooms near it. um, we could SEE the construction from our window - it was just a few rooms over. they were adamant that we couldn't hear it. we took video, still they said it couldn't be from our room since it wasn't near the construction. so frustrating.

Looks like it's going to be a beautiful hotel once they get it completed. So sorry you had to deal with all of the construction. We have stayed at a hotel in Gulf Shores AL twice this past year and while it is brand new and a great place to stay, they are building a new huge condo across the street. Our balcony looks over this construction and me being the nerd that I am, can sit on the balcony and watch the work being done all day while at the same time, enjoying a gulf view. When we booked this last time in September (we were there in April) I asked for the same room and told them I wanted to check on the construction status (LOL!). She said at least I wasnt complaining that there was now a huge condo blocking the previous wide open gulf view. I will have to say that I hear very little construction noise from there. It may be a different story if I were to have to deal with alot of noise so I understand what you're going through. I think that should be a given that the hotel refunds the "resort" fee seeing as how the pool and terrace are closed. Thats the least that they can do.
It helps that the staff was willing to work with you for a satisfactory outcome. Hope you and your sister are enjoying the cruise!

Sorry you had to experience that!! Just went on a music themed cruise and loved it and I booked for the cruise going in 2025 once suggestion, I have the score of the Fort Lauderdale area again is it take the water taxi, it’s about $30 for adults has multiple stops you can get on and then get back on later. The boat pilots are funny and entertaining. I’ve had bad experiences at hotels when there was a leak and the floors were filthy. We were tired and two which is a hassle to move. I always read 😮 gone downhill just after I booked. Another place I booked was just old and tired and I didn’t do enough research. It was not close enough to where I need to be close to. After the cruise in 2025 I want to go to the Everglades.

Hi Morgan! Wow! It definitely doesn't sound like you had the best stay!
The saddest part, is that it all could have been avoided by hotel staff (Sales too) being transparent and forthcoming.
You are 100% correct that it has everything to do with the hotel management! The staff may be awesome, but problems start from the top-down.
Ask to speak with the GM, no one else! (I pray it was a supervisor or FD Manager that you dealt with) you can do this even after you leave.
Play the recording for them, and if they have any hospitality, etiquette, or simple business (or even common) sense at all, they should empathize with you.
It seems like you were not being treated with the hospitality you were led to believe you would be receiving!
Also, did you say you booked through a third party? Complain to them also.
In fact, I'm not sure of the hotel ownership there, but you can escalate with them too.
I have no affiliation with this hotel, or any hotel, per se, on Miami Beach - but I am a hospitality professional, and it's so cringey to me when I hear of nightmare scenarios like this.
It's a poor excuse for hospitality, and an absolute embarrassment to the hospitality industry at large!
The problem is, all too often, hotels think they're going to hurt their bookings if they announce any work that may be in progress.
But this is a naive, short-sighted and greedy mistake that will pay out poorly in the end.
It's propelled by an instant gratification approach, that doesn't fair well long term.
It won't take long for them to realize that, having a low occupancy for a couple of months - is nothing - compared to the revenue they'll lose once those disappointed guests leave their beds and hit the internet!
Bad reviews will lap any dip in revenue loss, that they might have suffered by being more transparent and honest.
Now they have a reputation to repair too, and that can linger for years if you upset the wrong people, as exampled here!
Also, "Only cash" is... LOL! Way-y too sketchy! What in the world?! 🤨
    (sorry for my venting here...)

I think some of those demolitions are old buildings. The new codes are the need to be hurricane safe, and the base of buildings is not safe. In the last hurricane season, some buildings went down. In some cases, half of the buildings around the coast of Florida

    Hey Morgan!!
Just wanted to let you know - no ad 🤷🏼‍♀️!
And - several years ago I went to San Francisco with a group of friends (we had planned on 4 days in SF before heading to LA to board a cruise ship) & the hotel we stayed at was undergoing major renovations- BUT - we were told about the construction before we booked the hotel & we got a really great price for the hotel & the hotel was just a few blocks away from Fisherman’s Wharf (we had to walk through Johnny Rockets to get to the street where the pier was). 1/2 of my group were in a room that had already been renovated & the rest of the group were in the area where there was construction (luckily - no noise at night) - and I was in the newly decorated room, but I was with a friend who snored soooo loud (my other friend kept saying she was going to kill the snorer -lol)!! Anyway - we had a fantastic time in SF - there was an excursion desk in the lobby & we were able to get a bus to visit Muir Woods (so beautiful) and a boat trip to Alcatraz (so creepy) - and I’m not sure if I was able to get any sleep thanks to my snoring friend, but we did get to ride the cable car, visit Ghirardelli’s, spend time by the waterfront - enjoy the incredibly steep streets in SF before flying to LA.
And as far as Miami & the constant construction- after that horrible apartment building collapse many of the older buildings have had to be rebuilt!!
Guess you can always stay in Ft. Lauderdale if you’re back in south Florida- or one of the really nice hotels in West Palm Beach (near me)!

Good morning everyone . I’m just catching up now . We stayed in the Lowes Miami Beach and although it is a very swanky hotel and was an absolute one off treat for us after we had been on a cruise, I would have to say that I was a little disappointed with it. I felt like it was more like a conference centre with a pool on a beach. There was a teachers conference going on when we got there and it was very very busy. I think if we had of been told that there was a conference on we might have stayed elsewhere as the pool area was packed and the pool was “people soup “ I didn’t want to sound grumpy to my family so I just said that it was lovely but honestly I was a little disappointed seeing as it is supposed to be five star. You just want to be made to feel special and I felt like they didn’t even do that, which is a shame.
I can’t believe the manager said that to you with a straight face that he was surprised you could hear the construction. I think my husband would’ve dragged him upstairs to the room to hear it for himself. Ha ha

Happened to us in Port Charlotte, FL. Hotel under renovation. No carpeting in hallways. No pictures or headboards in the room. It was a weekend so no one was working, but everything was up under construction. Knew nothing of it ahead of time. The clerks at the desk could do nothing about it. We waited until we got home and called corporate. They gave us something….I don’t remember exactly what it was now. Not our money back but something. Point is…hotel employees can do nothing, but maybe corporate. You have a great video to show your bad experience.

If it was me, I'd be checking out the next day!!!! The hotel manager's attitude is INEXCUSABLE! Actually, we DID have this happen to us when we took a summer trip to Montreal (in Canada). Our hotel was undergoing construction, and back then, there was no yelp or many travel websites, so we were able to call around and get a discounted room for the rest of our trip at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Montreal! So we went from a 3-star hotel to a 5-star hotel for about the same price. We had a fantastic rest of our trip after that! Oh, and those appliances are pronounced "kwisinart". But then again, you have trouble pronouncing Cunard, so I'll forgive you on that.... 🤗

So many times we’ve booked villas in Orlando and they haven’t been up to scratch but we have just lived with it apart from one particular time we went into a five bedroom villa which really was only a three bedroom bungalow with two almost cupboards as bedrooms the air-conditioning unit was so noisy and banging all night. The beds were creaky and the swimming pools Jacuzzi wasn’t working. Also the swimming pool was dirty. They said they could come round and put chemicals in it but that we wouldn’t be able to swim in it for a few days and for me that was the last straw so we checked out and I booked another villa. We ended up losing a lot of money as it was my decision to move, we did eventually get a message back from the letting agents who said they would give us a discount if we wanted to book the villa again, but you can imagine no way

I'll do everything in my power to avoid the entire county if I can....to the point that I haven't ever been able to get to the Keys yet since I'd have to drive through Miami-Dade county (I was supposed to sail to the Keys in 2020, but that obviously didn't happen). The second pronunciation of Cuisinart is the way I have always pronounced it here in New York. If I was there -- I probably would not have cared about the pool, as I might have gone into the ocean or not gone swimming too much, and hopefully the noise is only in the daytime when you're outside somewhere else. When I am in Miami Beach, I usually stay at a hotel on the beach near Lincoln Road -- about half a mile or so North of where you were. And I don't think I've ever had any desire to stay in Miami for four days.

Just got to enjoy you new video today. You should complain to Expedia about the pool & the construction noise. Both of those things should be very obvious on their site from the second the pool closed, most sites put it on before it closes & the dates so people know ahead of time. The noise is not acceptable nor all the dust. I would not have stayed I would have got on Expedia immediately & got switched, don’t ever let any manager bs you or desk clerk. The hotel should have been closed during refurbishment.
I don’t waist my vacation in places that are not what they claimed they had.
Love your channel & the book, also I stream you so Bella & Clara watch too, they were appalled at the noise. Anytime there are loud noises they spend their time under the bed. Also both would have packed their bikinis & been upset no pool or patio. You are always so sweet & nice but still you should get some compensation for all of that.
Sadly you are seeing what is happening all over the US right now prices have skyrocketed & everyone is trying to make money due to price increases in food, services etc. never ever pay cash that is a way of scamming & I would worry about the atm right there also. Sorry you are seeing Miami like it is we hope/wish things will change but the way our country is going it probably won’t.
Good for you getting upset & yes it’s bad it takes that just to get what you should have gotten to begin with but things won’t change if people don’t say enough!!
    Thanks for another great video.

Expedia has you at the balls. I would have complained to them, and ask to be moved. I was stuck in Vegas once, and it wasn't pretty. But finally they managed to get me booked in a lower-class hotel, but it ended up being a good trip because I met some amazing people. We shared Dominos Pizza in the parking lot, haha. But yeah. Expedia was wrong to you.

I am sorry you had a bad hotel/travel experience. I recently had a great one. I stayed at Galatas Hotel next to the cruise port in Istanbul. It was a great hotel in a great location and the prices for food and excursions were great. I think the United States tourist areas are crazy expensive. Miami and Las Vegas are WAY overpriced.

They probably got so much Hassel they changed the website quickly so they didn’t have to compensate
But not realizing that some might have booked before the change 😅.
I would do exactly like you Morgan There is only so much you can take specially with noise .
Looks a fantastic room space for what you need it for , just a shame that the construction work doesn’t make it any easier.
friends had a similar problem many years ago in miami there was construction work going on a round the apartment/ Hotel
They were staying in , the work men could look straight in to their room ( not a nice thing at all ) sitting outside on
Their Balcony was ideal option was very uncomfortable situation.
Personal didn’t see what the problem was, they too took evidence on their phones , but it was shrugged off .
They did after a few days get given a new room ,😮 for them an other member of staff heard the story went to take a look, they saw straight away the “ situation “ and changed the apartment .
Have a Great time on your next cruise 🥰

Yeah, we don't go to Miami Beach, it's like Times Square or Fremont Street. Realistically, if you want to visit the real Miami, stay in the Gables and rent a car.
And if you're in Miami for a cruise, wait for the beach at the private island.

We had construction work once in the lobby and breakfast room in a Holiday Inn near Bush Gardens. But they wrote it on the website and it was not that bad but we were in the park the whole time anyhow. We stayed at the Franklin hotel in Miami beach after a cruise which was good. We had a nice dinner and breakfast in 11th Street Diner close by where prices were really o.k. We did not go elsewhere because of so much scam. Funny to watch all the "rich" people presenting themselves and their big cars. But there are much nicer and cheaper places to stay.

I don't trust places that only take cash. Yes, if they accept cards, they have to pay a small percentage to the CC company, but it really is a small percentage.
When you look at the cost and the amenities and said "yes, I'm willing to pay this amount for this hotel," it included that rooftop terrace and pool. Anyone in hospitality knows it's not cool to still charge the same price when a huge draw is no longer available. I'm glad it was at least a great room but they should have dropped the price without even being asked.
I'm really looking forward to volume 2!

I am shocked at what you are experiencing in Miami Beach. Used to live in Ft. Lauderdale 23 years ago and rarely went to Miami Beach then because it was loud and sometimes dangerous. I can't believe the required 20% tip for drinks and food regardless of where you go. The city must have passed an ordinance allowing that because it just does not make good business sense to do that without some sort of "official approval". And I'm sure the hotels and resorts have lots of sway as to what happens on Miami Beach. I know when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale we had tons of problems every Spring Break on the beach. But the hotels couldn't care less until just before I moved. That particular Spring Break the college kids basically destroyed Ft. Lauderdale Beach including most of the hotels. So right away the hotels went to the city and said we have to do something about this because suddenly our own properties were severely damaged. As a result Ft. Lauderdale stopped all advertising as a place to spend Spring Break with the blessings of the hotel industry.

Did you get a discount or refund from Expedia? I was not happy with an overpriced hotel in Dubai and then saw it was €70 a night cheaper on expedia to what we paid and it included breakfast. (Our booking with expedia which was €70 more expensive did not include breakfast). Our room faced a construction site. Needless to say i spent 2 hrs in a chat with expedia. They said they would refund but i dont know if expedia will keep theor word!! I think the customer service has gone down on expedia and they are doing cash grab (in miami and Dubai) for hotel rooms which are not worth the price. Dubai is equally if not more a rip off to Miami

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it in Miami Beach where an appartment building fell down for no apparent reason a few years ago? That could be a reason for the amount of construction.
The amount of scamming/adding on of tips and costs is horrific. You should be able to trust the prices advertised, without having to read the print so fine that you need a microscope! I wonder if Covid hurt the tourism business too hard there, and everyone is just scrambling to get by?

Tips: Miami is caca with glitter on. It may shine, but underneath, it is what it is. If you are debating where to sleep, choose the cheaper, decent option. You will be scammed either way. Try a local bodega, cafe, or Trader Joe's for healthy/organic meals. The food will be IG-worthy at a fancier restaurant, but that's about it. Drinks are another story; they are overpriced. Pay attention to your bills MOST and repeat MOST places automatically add 18% (or more) gratuity to their bills. (Enter "Pura Vida Cafe" at your own risk. A sandwich + coffee is USD 53). You will potentially be drugged up, not for sex but to steal your things, at times just to shut you up. Finally. Casi nadie habla Ingles. Learn 'Miamian". This place is weird AF.

Morgan, you are a very nice guy. I'm afraid I wouldn't have been as polite as you have been. I live in So Fl and I avoid going to Miami Dade County as much as possible...Im sorry you guys have had such a horrible experience...inflation in FL has been causing businesses to increase prices for everything...or reduce the size of the product..the construction could be a combination of the need for housing, ie apartments. .because Jeff Bezos is the only person who can buy a house in Miami these days..and some older structures were found structural unsafe and had to be razed and rebuilt...there was a building collapse in Surfside a couple of years ago and that got the city looking at existing structures. I will apologize for the poor treatment y'all have received and hope your remaining stay is uneventful...🥺
