After hours of being frustrated about why I couldn't seem to get a straight line to be super clean, I am SO HAPPY to have now found this video and I wish I would have looked sooner. Thank you!
I know this is an older video but I wanted to comment and say thanks anyway - I just used this technique after seeing your video and it's a night and day difference compared to the silliness that I'd ended up with after previously trying to paint the edges freehand on my walls with knock down texture. I used DAP Alex trim caulk and yellow Frog tape for delicate surfaces. The edges came out perfectly. Thanks!
I'm a pretty good freehand trimmer but I did freehand trim between black and white paint and it shows no mercy for mess ups. Not only will this look 100% better but be EASIER! Thank you!
Thank you, I used this method to paint an accent wall and it worked great! Takes some time but very easy for a beginner to get a straight edge on knockdown texture.
Great video!! Just to save you some time... put the tape first, a little bit of caulking along the edge, paint right away, before the caulk and paint dries pull the tape....same results and you don't have to go through all these steps and drying time 😉
Super super helpful, I should have watched this before painting my textured corners. Such a simple way to get straight lines between contrasting colors.
O. M. G. GENIUS!!!! We are on the second room of completely redoing our house and repainting walls and this is a game changer! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!!
Watching this in 2022, helped me out a lot. I tried painting with tape and even though i made sure to buy good tape a stick it really straight and well, paint seems to find its way to get under the tape. With this method, i learned to do it fast and easy and ONCE. haha - Thank you
My ENTIRE HOUSE is builder's beige with knockdown walls and ceilings. It's like living in a mud palace. I've been adding accent walls over the years, but it's so slow every time because the corners have always been such a nightmare. There's also an amazing amount of conflicting advice and online demonstrations of how to do it badly, lol...this is the first video I've seen that provides both an actual long-term solution AND an excellent-looking result! I think my next project is to go caulk every corner of every room in the house, LOL.
one last 'item'...or 'step...you could do, to help achieve perfection with this method, is...after your caulking is dry...and you place your tape down the caulk line, take some 'clear caulk...and run a very, very light bead, down the edge of the tape... don't let it dry!...and then...paint down the edge. what this does is offer even further assurance that..'paint won't leak under' the blue tape! then peel! works like a charm.
There's a better way without the caulking. Paint the tape over with the lighter color on the dark wall. This will seal the tape. When dry, paint over the tape with the darker color. You get a perfect seam with no dark paint seeping under the tape.
I tried this but the paint still leaked through cause the bumps wouldn’t keep the tape closed. 😭With the caulk, it’ll give me a smooth surface to do it now. 🙌🏽
thank you for this tip, I always paint with nice straight lines or at least kind of straight but recently painted on a textured wall just like this and it came out looking freaking horrrrrrrribbllle! I guess I will go back and caulk my corners its worth it I suppose with how bad it looks :)
Thank you for this video. Perfect demonstration!! Any ideas on type of roller to use on heavy sand textured walls. I don't think I'm getting enough paint on the roller and I'm seeming roller marks everywhere. My OCD says bigger nap roller ...
I’m gonna make this easy for everyone…..the color of the existing paint that you taped over(simply paint the lines with that same color if you have any left and it will seal the paint line). Then paint over the new paint line that sealed and covered the tape line with your new paint and you will have perfect line…..any questions?
Think its just too much extra work using the caulking, painters tape is ok to use though the edge of tape that is going to be painted up against must be securely fixed to wall after paint is applied then remove tape immediately slowly many recommend the caulking but is really waste of time & money.

Currently having a meltdown over my fresh, poorly painted edges because of the textured walls. I will give this a try and let you know what I think!
Thank you, I used this method to paint an accent wall and it worked great! Takes some time but very easy for a beginner to get a straight edge on knockdown texture.
I guarantee it's 1000x faster than going back w/ a teeny tiny fine art brush and fixing every divot and dribble by hand!! Ask me how I know!! 🤣
Great video!! Just to save you some time... put the tape first, a little bit of caulking along the edge, paint right away, before the caulk and paint dries pull the tape....same results and you don't have to go through all these steps and drying time 😉
Awesome Tip!!!! Man, TX has nothing but Textured walls and I couldn't get a straight line to save my life!
Best explanation/demonstration I've seen so far, thank you!
Sir you are a saint thank you so much. Been searching for years and this is the only technique that works. Thanks again

This is genius! I wish I watched this before we started painting 😂
I cannot like this video enough. Just so simple
I will def be trying this technique and not that masking tape and utility knife technique like that handyman video. Thanks! Looks good 👍
Interesting trick. I was looking for a good one for a while, THANK YOU
Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! This video is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much. Great idea. This will save me a lot of time!
This was easy to follow. Straight to the point. Will try this and I’ll let you know how it came out. Thank you
So how did it turn out? 😀
Thanks man! I painted one bathroom at work, now the second one will look great!
Awesome tip! I'm going to do this on my wall and textured ceiling cut line.
Hmm, nice and simple solution. Thanks!
Thanks, quick and useful!
Very helpful. Perfect for textured adjoining walls.

Thankyou.... Working on an old house driving me nuts 🤪
Awesome tip, thank you so much!!
You should advise that they need to use a paintable caulk
Jacqueline Bond good to know! 💬
Everyday is a skill day
thank you for this tip, I always paint with nice straight lines or at least kind of straight but recently painted on a textured wall just like this and it came out looking freaking horrrrrrrribbllle! I guess I will go back and caulk my corners its worth it I suppose with how bad it looks :)
Tape first then caulking. This works best when you are only painting one of the two walls
Very helpful, thank you.
Nice method,thanks!
Good idea i am going to try this, thank you posting
Love it! Thank you sir
Great tip! Thank you 😊
Best demonstration on textured access wall, thanks now I know what to do to please the wife.

OMG thanks for the great tip!!!! Gonna make me look like a pro. lol
Great tip 😎👍
...and my caulking gun collecting dust! 😞 (Good vid!: short, informative & to the point)
Thanks Man! Much Appreciated

Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
Thats crazy straight! Found what I'm looking for :D
Oh, what a great idea!
OMG thank you!
Thank you!
Genius!
Awesome!
Very helpful!! Thanks
Awesome job. Do you have ant tips to paint a edge from top to bottom?
Very Good!!
WOW!!!! Thank you so much
Good job buddy.
Thank you for this video. Perfect demonstration!! Any ideas on type of roller to use on heavy sand textured walls. I don't think I'm getting enough paint on the roller and I'm seeming roller marks everywhere. My OCD says bigger nap roller ...
3/4 nap or maybe 1 1/4. Quality woven.
Roller marks like lines?
You're not supposed to paint up and down
Yes!! Thank you!!!!!
Awesome!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!
Tim can you use this same technique between the wall and ceiling?
This dude legit looks like teddy atlas the boxing guru lol
if you lightly paint on the paint edge works a lot better
Great, thanks
Curious as to what happens when the caulk dries out and cracks?

You are a G!
My frogtape (delicate surface), pulled some of the caulking off, when I removed it. What am I doing wrong?
thx for the video.
omg YES!!
Same tape what I normally use
How do you do it on a bull nose outside corner??
Let caulking setup or tape will pull it away from the wall
What do you do about the white caulking showing on the light colored wall??
Use clear (colourless) caulking. 😉
If only I discovered this before painting a wall in my room.. :(
thanks for the tip
And now you got 3 lines a white one caulking one on the middle
Smh 🤦♂️
Brush is too soft! Something much stiffer with Chinex. Bristles. I probably could fix that wall with Arroworthy Chiseled brush, 3/4 wide.
TAPE NAME?
But now you have a white line in the corner….
Invest in a great "cutting-in" brush. No tape or caulk required.
great idea, it saves your butt.
Think its just too much extra work using the caulking, painters tape is ok to use though the edge of tape that is going to be painted up against must be securely fixed to wall after paint is applied then remove tape immediately slowly many recommend the caulking but is really waste of time & money.
LOL you have obviously never painted textured wall to textured wall.
Not quality work, shitty people that I’ve painted ther houses they hv square corners not radius corners they want the 90 degree look
What the hell is on them walls it’s disgusting lol
I think is to much caulk cuz you still can see it at the end
Great tip, thanks!
