    Many sentinels were also relegated to the Jedi service corps. Yoda and other masters arrogantly believed them largely unnecessary, untrustworthy due to their focus on rooting out the Sith, or as lesser Jedi. Had there been more sentinels during the time of the Clone Wars it is likely that Palpatine would have failed.

      @muhtadialbandar9549 3 роки тому +112

      I highly doubt, given what we know about Yoda, that he would look upon the sentinels as lesser Jedi and make decisions based on that. The council weren’t really aware of the extent of the threat until it was too late so it’s a bit unfair to call them arrogant for not using the sentinels.

    • @emeraldcoastarcher
      @emeraldcoastarcher 3 роки тому +189

      @@muhtadialbandar9549 Well, Ki-Adi-Mundi believed the Sith to be extinct and says so in episode 1. In episode 2 Obi-Wan and Yoda discuss how arrogance is becoming a more common trait among Jedi, particularly the older ones. I do not think Yoda was above such arrogance either, but did recognize it in himself and tried to combat it. This is also showcased by the fall of Count Dooku to the Dark Side, who was Yoda's padawan.
      However, remember Yoda was over 900 years old. He was alive shortly after the final fall of the Sith, during the time of Darth bane. He and all the other Jedi since him had been raised to believe the Sith were gone. The primary job of the Sentinels was to root out the Dark Side. And, with the primary practitioners of the Dark Side gone, the Sith, there was no further need for most of the Sentinels. Also, because of their focus on practical knowledges, such as slicing, engineering, droid construction, etc., many Jedi Consulars and Guardians believed the Sentinels to not be as capable as Jedi Knights as they were; think of it like conflicting Chinese schools of martial arts within the order.
      What I am saying is this, if there had been more Jedi Sentinels around before the Clones Wars, then it would have made things very difficult for Palpatine and the other Sith; because there would have been more people looking for them. We can see that there were far less Sentinels around during the final years of the order; only a handful in comparison to the other two groups. This is evident by the legend and canon material.

    • @emeraldcoastarcher
      @emeraldcoastarcher 3 роки тому +50

      @@jamalalqassem8747 Well, at that time there were no Sith within the Jedi Temple, with the exception of the very few times Chancelor Palatine came to visit; which was rare if ever. Also, there is a Dark Side nexus under the temple that aided in clouding the vision of the Jedi in the Temple. Traditionally most Jedi Sentinels, besides the Temple Guard who rotated their positions, spent the majority of their time outside of the Temple; so their vision wouldn't have been as clouded. As for the betrayal well, that happened after they were captured and subjected to Dark Side brainwashing and torture techniques, which happened to them after they watched the deaths of pretty much everyone in their order. So, they were already at a emotionally unstable state at that point most likely. Also, Sentinels weren't taken seriously by most of the Jedi during that time period; even as respected as the temple Guards were they were there to guard and been seen, not heard generally. The rest were kind of outcasts that lived on the fringes of the galaxy where the Council sent them; they couldn't be of much use out there. That's like putting the alarm system for your house on your neighbor's house that's ten doors down, and then wondering why it didn't go off when someone broke into your house.

      @bragnir 3 роки тому +31

      It was a bit too late to train a new generation of members of a rare discipline within the order by the time the Clone Wars had started. By that time, the Sentinels were too few in number, their technique rusty from the peaceful years and had obligations to fulfill which others would not take. They had strayed from their original Sith hunting to the by then more common guarding of the temples and provably just plain weren't in any position to be deployed like during the old times anymore.
      Now, if they had maintained their numbers and original position... Yes: they'd provably have been able to do a LOT for the Order and the Republic, maybe even enough to grind Palps' plans to a halt. Jedi Sentinels, as per their Old Republic doctrines were, after all, the ones most suited to both oppose Sidious' schemes and survive post-Order 66.

In truth it was the Jedi Sentinels and their secretive nature that allowed for the Jedi Order survival. They are trained to root out the dark side from beings trained in its use. Bariss didn't have the aura of a full dark side user due to her only recently harboring the beliefs and had yet to fully turn. They wouldn't have been able to so easily find her growing connection, and even if they could they wouldn't expect one of their own.
      The bounty hunter incident wasn't a failure so much as an oversight. The temple had security measures that were more than enough for most intruders. Bane was the most skilled bounty hunter in the Galaxy at the time, being second only to Jango before his death.
      The Vader point isn't viable. No amount of training would make them able to stand up to him in his rage. The only Jedi who stood a good chance against him at the Temple was the Battlemaster Cin Drallig, who himself was slain with relative ease.

    "As was the case with the Grand Inquisitor in Legends." Correction: Canon.
    The Grand Inquisitor in Legends doesn't have much background or description and, due to the nature of the Imperial Inquisition in Legends being essentially a secret agency of operatives recruited from various ranks of the Galactic Empire, it's not very likely the Grand Inquisitor in Legends was a Jedi Temple Guard/Jedi Sentinel, or a Jedi at all. Whereas, in canon, The Imperial Inquisition is almost exclusively made up of former Jedi who were repabled as brothers and sisters with various numbers in place of their names.

      Watchmen would often stick around at a certain city or planet and play Batman there. A pretty cool ideal that feels more down to Earth than the duties other Knights had. With many pointing how easily they failed to protect the temple in the clones wars, I think it's important to point out this was largely to do their lack of use. The number of sentinels was few and far between and often sent to random places that didn't really need their service. In the process of not actually being active, they had nothing to really hone their skills or test them, so even the few they had probably weren't actually that great as a result of the order never actually using them. They worked with their hands tied so much they probably lost most of their abilities that made them so strong.

      You're thinking of morality as a + - scale. You should be thinking of it as 0 to infinity instead.
      The glass is either full (balanced), or it's empty and you go thirsty (the dark side). You can't fill a glas with "negative water".
      Though the Force has many similarities to Taoism on surface level, the morality behind it matches Christian philosophy most of all. It's a kind of Syncretism of different philosophies, but the Jedi idea of balance follows most closely the Christian idea that evil itself has no real being or existance. The Dark side (evil) is only a corruption of good, or lack of good. Darkness is only the abscense of light. The color black is not actually a color (since it does not reflect light for you to see).
      Think of the Force as a piece of pottery with a pretty artwork painted on. The dark side represents cracks in the pot, holes or missing pieces. The dark side makes the artwork worn out and hard to see, the broken shards can be corrupted and used to do evil. The shards can be sharp and cut you, can be used to make arrow heads and weapons. You can't appriciate or see what the artwork is with shattered pieces of the puzzle/pot.
      The Force is balanced, pure and uncorrupted... when the pot is completely intact, without any cracks or signs of wear and it is used exactly as it was meant to be used: to be filled with water (life) and appriciate the complete artwork.
      It was not meant to be shattered into pieces to make arrow-heads or be corrupted in any other way. No dark side = intact pot, no corruption, the force is in balance.

    The Temple Gaurd would be a specialty in the Order that very well could take decades to fully develop. Decades that during the Clone Wars the Jedi could not guarantee would replace their numbers to protect the ancient and massive Temple. Yoda and the High Council would know their history well of the times where the Temple had fallen. I don't think that during the Clone Wars not using their skill set to hunt the Sith was due to arrogance or fear but being practical. The Jedi Temple was ancient and massive and part of the discipline required by a Guardian was to know every level of the Temple. Dooku was a Jedi and had been able to erase Kamino from the archives without anyone being able to notice. What other secrets could he have and use to infiltrate the Temple?

    Wow. The Mighty most powerful group of Jedi known as the sentinels, bordering on being living angels with how powerful and skilled and utilitarian they are, reduced to skinny weak little security guards...
    Being a security guard is cool. But... Angel level power is kinda characteristic of sentinels.
    It’s sad to see them like that in the clone wars.
    Sentinels were supposed to be equal to vader more or less. Sentinel school training alone puts them above guardian in combat prowess.
    Their force training puts them just below or equal to consulate.
    Sentinels are supposed to be the best of both guardian and consulate.
    But the clone wars make them look like glorified mall cops.
    Based on what I know, my opinion is that sentinels should be able to go toe to toe with Mace Windu and Count Dooku and Anakin and Obiwan.
    Isn’t form 7 a unspoken requirement for being a sentinel?
    I’m assuming during the clone wars, the “requirements” for being a sentinel were lowered greatly compared to before in Jedi history?
    Long story short, I feel that they did sentinels extremely dirty in the clone wars.

      Don't think it's canon anymore but a handful of sith did turn to the light; one destroyed half their holocrons and ancient writings before his apprentice stopped him, and the one who revealed the rule of 2 was a dark jedi around 180 years before phantom menace who fell to the darkside but apparently learned during his studies that the rule of 2 existed from the cult on dromund kaas started by darth milennial, who left the order to start the prophets of the dark side just 2 generations after bane.

    If I was a Jedi this is the class I would want to be. When I look at them I see balance the balance lightsaber and force skills, as well as, Jedi skills and mundane skills. They are masters at infiltration, info gathering and espionage (at least as much as the Counsel would allow it).
    That being said I, wanting to be a Sentinel while using Jar Kai Niiman, would likely be picked on as a youngling as someone who was destined to be average.

    7:09 Did you mean Canon instead of Legends, because the Grand Inquisitor is a Canon only character.

    I was assuming that, given some characters such as Grand Inquisitor were only stablished as Guard, only some Jedi rotated as Guards while there was permanent members of that corp, now that I've seen this video, maybe that permanent group where simply Jedi sentinels that were bestowed that job again and again each time the post "rotated".

    Um I know also there were a lot of sentinels who kinda acted like green lanterns, and patrolled or "protected" a certain planet or parts of a planet. Also in cannon I don't think he is considered a Sentinel but because of his abilities I always think of him as such, but we know Quinlan Vos survived the purge and in legends at least it said he survived a lot longer than that.

    The light side is balance, having darksiders around immediately brings unbalance
