I just ordered one thanks to this video. These are a LOT cheaper than the vacuum desoldering irons (easily >$200, whereas this one can be found for $30-40) and appear to do just fine for small jobs/hobbyists.
One thing I noticed, and I read it in the Amazon reviews, is that you actually should keep something nearby (a cup or something, or if you're using a silicone work surface, that works) to drop the sucked solder into. Click the solenoid, then move off the work piece and hold the iron vertical over your "trash cup" and release the solenoid. Otherwise it just shoots a blob of solder back onto the board somewhere. Not a huge deal if you're just salvaging parts, but definitely worth considering if you're say replacing a capacitor or basically want to reuse the board.
I hope I'll be able to order extra tips and keep mine well maintained, I've struggled with desoldering a lot and I have a feeling this will make all the difference!
Hi, interesting comment. As you can see in the video my unit does not spit out molten solder when the solenoid is released. When I open the unit to clean it all the solder is contained within. One of my favorite means to un solder provides a thrill for the day too. I heat up the solder joint and when the solder is fluid I shoot it with a blast from DUST OFF can. Molten Solder flying mostly in places you really don't wish it too but the parts will just lift right up and out devoid of solder. Also works good for cleaning solder out of Via ways. Yes, I should really buy one of these. LOL Dangerous as hell but does the job like nothing else could or would. Yes I have a old school Solder Sucker.

@@mmols9904 I think the nozzles are particular to this tool, I have not seen them for sale separately. They are very tough nickel plated and I would think practically indestructible!!

Way back some 15 years ago when I study basic electronics, thats my frustration everytime I desoldering then I wish I have 3 or more hands to do that or it just came to my mind that someone may invent a devices which can melt the tin and suck away at the same time. Hi, I am not aware of any difference other than one is blue and costs more! Cleaning is simple just unscrew the "knurled" part and the solder residue can be easily removed. The inside of the tube has a chrome plated disk that the solder just rubs off. If you have any other question let me know. Please consider subscribing if you have not done so already!

Hi have you tried it for removing solder bridges on SMD IC's? When I solder in an SMD IC I often get a bridge across the legs. I use a manual sucker but its awkward - you really need 3 hands.

I would not use this for SMD work. I use "solder wick" desoldering braid : bit.ly/SolderWick This with a "knife blade" style tip works well for me. Please consider subscribing if you have not done so already!
How does the action work? Do you reload the plunger like with a normal desoldering pump? Or is the pump electric?

You need to hold the button and only release it above a garbage bin or something because it will spit out the solder when you release the button

Its pretty interesting there is a similar version of this on amazon and all the reviews complain it never gets hot enough so i wonder if they just put a US plug on the 220v iron and sold it in the states.
It's funny that you should say that, if you look at the product photos here : bit.ly/Solder_Sucker You can see it is fitted with a US plug! Mine came with an adaptor for Europe. Also there is no voltage marked on the unit itself.

Wondering if the tip has any high voltage separation issues , like if i use another soldering iron along side it to assist in higher temperature joints will it explode in my face in some horrific mess?
I don't believe anything bad can happen. The suction is provided by a solenoid in the handle of the sucker, worst case it will burn out. Please consider subscribing if you have not done so already!

So for microchips its not a good tool.
Personal i do not use on microchips electrische iron with out eart ground
For some i use a gas iron to work with.

how well does it old over time? other products stop working after a few month, the tip deteriorates badly.
The one I have still works fine. It is a solenoid in a tube, there is not much that can go wrong! The tip on mine is chrome plated, unless it is abused badly it will last forever!

@@lnbabz Still working well, not something I use everyday though! The tips are chrome plated and tough, it operates by a solenoid so really there is little to go wrong.

Does this need tinning like soldering tips? Sorry I'm new to this things.
It does not need tinning. However I usually add a little solder to the component to be removed especially if it has been soldered with lead free solder. Adding a little leaded solder helps the "flow"!

I got a way cheaper and much more simple version of this for about 3 dollars. It also has the interchangeable nozzles, but how do you remove one to put the other? Do you unscrew it?

That thing is terrible I had one and it never got hot enough to get the solder molten
Maybe you had a faulty unit? As you can see mine works well. Also adding a little solder flux to the job may help. As always non -leaded solder is more difficult to remove because of its higher melting point. Please consider subscribing if you have not done so already!

i bought it and guess what stop working after 10 minutes , its dead , only heat is working now
