That circuit works as follow: The resistor of the solder is always on (provided you don't press the switch )There is a rectifier diode bridge and Capacitor circuit that converts AC to DC needed to power the inner solenoid acting as an electromagnet that feeds the pump . When switch is pressed, the piston is attracted to the solenoid and creates vacum sucking the soldering the rod of the pump pusses the arrow that opens that spring loaded switch at the end and opens the AC circuit turning off the solder heat. When you release the switch, the inner spring put the piston back spitting all the solder inside.

Given the red and blue wires are different colour to the red and blue going to the switch then I would imagine that the mains is being full wave rectified with a smoothing cap to take out the ripple. No earth is required given that all the parts are insulated from the mains. The handle switch is used to provide power to the solenoid, whilst the other switch at the back, removes power from the solenoid once the solenoid has been de-actuated, by releasing the button. A simple plunger at the back of the solenoid provides this action by the looks of it, probably driving the solenoid in the opposite direction by back EMF action of releasing the button. Pointy looking bit of plastic at the centre :)
Effective by its simple construction, just a tad fiddly when it comes to cleaning. Thanks for the video as it gives an insight into the operation of the desoldering iron.
Just got mine today. Only 7 days after ordering (a small miracle coming from China)
It has 4 tips (3 spares and 1 installed) and it has the same Euro plug and a really cheap adapter. I plan to change the cable out for an Australian plug. This is why I came to your video.
Just got mine on Saturday. 4th connection I tried to desolder and I got yellow sparks from the element area and it caught fire. Lucky I hadn't left it on and walked away.
The air that comes down tube as to go somewhere. But if someone fills the outlet with glue.
I wonder if these are worth buying, and improving/modding them.. they're a tiny fraction of the price of the next tool up in it's category
I found this after looking at this item online and this videos awesome! Your very entertaining and your little rants were gold, but sadly true for the most part. A lot people don't want to know because they think its to hard haha.
I do think this is a good idea, and i still use it from time to time, but it gets extremely hot. Obviously failed any safety checks, but still a good little product
I just ordered what looks like a newer version of this on aliexpress that doesn't seem to have the strain relief issue. How has yours held up over the year or so that you've had it? Is it still working?
Surprisingly, Yes it has.
Ive had no issues with it, except for it getting too hot when using it for more than 15 minutes.
I know i had a go at it for safety reasons, like other videos have done, but it does the job. Unless you want to shell out a stack load more cash for the desolder station, then its as good as you need.
@@R_T_Ralph I'm hoping the one I ordered will at least last a while..I'm not too worried about it getting too hot as it will be rarely used for for more than 15 minutes..I'm on a budget so spending almost $200 or more on a tool I'll rarely use is unlikely anytime soon. As long as it does the job it's good enough for me. Thanks for the reply.
I heard you ramble over there about youth havin' no clue. Well, I might have to agree. A thing in my room short circuited and it blew the fuses for the whole floor. and I hadn't even had the chance to find WHAT short circuited in my room and unplug it, and the other guys on the floor had already turned the breaker on again! As if it's just a joke.
Breakers break circuits for a reason! You DO NOT just turn them back on! It seems to me that so many people are never told about the significance that electricity has. The facts. How basic stuff work. Were they never told to reason, and think "Hey, why did the breaker go off?". They turn the breakers back on like they open a window when it blows closed; maybe they grew up with electricity the same way as air: it was always there. It was never new and taught about.

To secure the cable clamp and cable, use some super glue..
In the back there is a thermo switch for the elektromagnet! The cable tie blocked them. Dont play with electric!
Hi, I would like to ask you for a small favor if possible. When disassembling my desoldering iron, which is the same as yours, the four cables that go from the tip and the switch to the motherboard came loose and I don't know how they were soldered. Could you tell me or send me an image? and thank you very much for your videos keep it up (sorry for my English I'm from Spain)

I'm considering buying a desoldering pump like this one and I was wondering how this thing kept up over time. Do you still use it? What's your experience after almost 3 years. Thank you for this great video.
Honestly, its still a poorly built death trap, but can be useful for small projects.
However, it gets far too hot and not very easy to clean.
I stopped using it when i bought a Duratool Desoldering Station - D00672, which you can pick up for less than £70. A lot more safer and a breeze to use.
@@R_T_Ralph Where have you seen it for less then £70? On Amazon, CPC and eBay it costs much more than that.
@@captaincorleone7088 i bought my desoldering station from farnells last year for £72. this video was made a few years back now, but still, this pump isnt worth the money.

The pump is working on DC? The diodes form a full wave rectifier with a little filtering and the heating works on direct AC.. It seems. The wiring looks flimsy and unsafe. They've stuck no earth because its all plastic case. Under fault conditions provided you don't touch the heater... Metal you technically shouldn't get a shock. For the sake of making future videos please completely unplug any devices 👍 personally I would use a separate soldering iron and make the pump work on its own. If that was a British item, it would have the correct safety markings. Too many items coming into the UK just AINT safe.
No links? Also, those wires are brown and blue. Standard colours in Australia, and possibly China for Active (Live) and Neutral (respectively)

Link posted in description. His was more poorly made than mine. I honestly do still use this, but its as hot as hell and will just do enough to help me. Also, ive just bought a proper desoldering station which is safe and will do the job better. video to make on that soon.
I had ordered one and it has a US plug and the plastic is black and not blue. It still says it is 220V, but I live in the USA? How is that going to work?
There are a lot of problems with this device. I assume the voltage regulator would work from 100v up to 240v, then step down to its operating voltage of maybe 24v without issue.
Where can I buy a replacement heating element for this extractor? Please
no idea, its really not worth the effort. buy a sensible desolder station, you will thank me for it.

I watch a few videos before i bought this, and knew what the problems were, however, it is pretty good for the price, but still a death trap.
@@R_T_Ralph That spring at the back and copper contact, is that not for when the solenoid hits it, it cuts the power to the solenoid ?
Your cable tie and glue is stopping that contact from moving.
The other guy use this and removed ic fast. You took it apart before you even tested it now yours don't work. When I get home , I try mines, if it works right away , I assume something you dis was a mistep. Can I trust your work?
this review was 4 years ago, this device is a cheap version of a very good idea, but is not earthed or regulated. I have a lot better solder station and would not recomend this, BUT it is ok for small jobs.

I had one before, totally rubbish.
I think you just got into too much of a faff and worried too much about the plug not being earthed,I came here to see if they were any good,you were faffing about too much and read darkstatehk's comment and found another video instead.
To be honest, i still use it when i need to. Its ok, but there is no voltage or thermal regulation on this, and with no earth, its a matter of time before i get a shock, or burned from it. Good idea, but needs more safety.

I wish I would have watched this video before I bought the very same model. It's a complete pile of shit. I've never fired a handgun before, but the recoil on this contraption when you press the red button is horrendous and probably like firing an actual gun.

There is a reason for the 13A fuse.. If you didn't mess with it before you tied it out, it would've been working 🤷
