Let me share a short rant. Once I was in one of those "prestigious" JCs. I was told that people who attend poly's and ITE are somewhat inferior. I was told that they are not smart, that they don't work hard, and that somehow they are not worthy as humans. That was how the society works, even among us students. Then I graduated, the straight A's made me feel so proud of myself. I got offered great courses from multiple Sg universities but chose to reject them to get a university education from the West. Fortunately, I got it, and then the next thing I knew my entire worldview came tumbling down. In my university marks do not matter nearly as much. The key question, instead, is "do you know how to make an impact on the world using your skills?" Well I got straight A's from many H2 A levels subject but that is about it...no application, no impact whatsoever. It took me such a long time to pick myself up and completely change how I think. Watching this video now, I really do respect all students who may not be "studying material" but are nonetheless working hard for a future, even if the society rejects and looks down on them. Entering university has made me realize that often, these are the very people who will in fact change the world for the better, not the people who think they are smart just because they can memorize things better, or because they have a very fortunate background that allows them much privilege. These "inferior" students are those who learn practical skills they are passionate about while we are cramping mostly impractical information. They are the ones who will often be more employable, unlike graduates from university who may struggle even more to find a job because they only know the theories but nothing more. You go you Pei Ying, the future is ever so bright!
I prefer JC A LEVELS are universal. Meaning you can use it anywhere in the career whether you want to be a accountant to chef to electronics and engineering etc For ITE and polytechnics. You are fixed into a course subject You cannot change it unless you go study from the beginning to get the certificate
You can even become a certified MOE teacher or tuition center with high distinction of grades in JC. The pay is pretty awesome From each student cost hundreds per session. I have a friend is teaching O levels, A LEVELS and work as a computer network analysis. Both using the same JC certificate Later he got the money in just less than a year and study in NUS. The pay is insane
Got bullied? No problem kamarad! We will send the Luftwaffe Airplane coordinates to your location and SPRITZEN THE FUCKING SCHEISSE OUT OF THE BULLY! OUR NUMBERS ARE NOW MANY AND OUR STRENGTH IS VISIBLE! >:D
From ite to poly..nothing is impossible.I was like you,frm a repeat student taking N levels before going for my O's hoping to get into poly which i did badly and went into ITE..in ITE,all you ever need is focus..and determination..getting a GPA 4.0 in ITE is easy if you put hard work into it especially into all your assignments and projects..im not trying to brag abt my grades in ITE,in fact,i did not even study that much during term breaks etc but what i did was put in alot of effort during projects and assignments..and little did i realise,i managed to get GPA 4.0 thereafter..Nanyang Poly rejected me coz i was from ITE but Temasek Poly open its arms wide for ITE students like us..you can go far,you can still achieve your dreams to where you want it to be thus dont give up on hope..I wish you all the best Pei Ying!!
Pei Ying, if you are reading this.. I wanna share with you my journey. I was from ITE, went to poly then Uni. I didn’t have a GPA of 4, in fact I did quite poorly. After ITE, I went on to do my part time diploma at 1 of the Polytechnics. Again I didn’t excel in it, but that engineering diploma became a key to a local university. I went on to do part time degree and graduated with a social work degree. That’s something I have always wanted and I couldn’t do so, because I was from engineering in nitec, and had to take engineering in Polytechnic. So what I’m trying to say here is if you like social work, don’t give up and keep working towards that dream. I’m a living example. Trust me, it is achievable
But the problem with singapore. They treat ITE like " its the end " ITE graduates that have good grades unable to attend polytechnics 100%. Which is absurd Singapore MOE need to improve this to allow them to excel further. Private schools are garbage in SG so dont bother
Thats why i hate this kind of pathetic stereotypes in Singapore. All they thought of, if you ended up in ITE, there goes your future which of course is untrue. How I wish Singaporeans will be more open minded and aware of the potential that each of us have.
@Moonface00z I think you're the one making stereotypes here. Students that have good or decent grades from ITE can actually go to polytechnic, I know a lot of them including friends and family members that do. It's just how much effort and passion you put into your work. It's actually quite easy to get into poly from ITE provided it meets the requirements.
To be honest, you need to realise as you are adulting, everyone is competing for a spot. I am from RP. There are a lot of intelligent foreigners here and most of them deserve it because they work really hard for it. Bottomline is, learn to enjoy life like how the young lady in the video does. Learning continues beyond school. The government may be shitty but the people cannot just complain without having solutions!
I like how optimistic she is. At least she has goals in her life, while there are still lots of aimless student in university including me just studying for the stake of studying and have no idea of what to do in life .
Pei Ying is like a quiet "bud" that had been subjected to a lot of pressure (bullying), but has now blossomed into a Beautiful person, who had also found her Purpose! 😀👍👍👍
we should not think that people who attend poly's and ITE are somewhat inferior. You as an investment banker do a lot less impact then they people that doing social work. They are the one that make this society more livable...
I think we should give a chance for people like her to bring out the best in them. If we don't at least give them a chance, they'll lose their way in life. And I don't think that's something they want. So we should play a part in helping people like Pei Ying by not ostracising them and giving them a chance to show their full potential.
Your organic/digital friends are not going to pay your bills when you are bankrupt, homeless and/or sick. Will you empty half of your life savings to help a digital friend? Yet we spend most of our time and energies on social media and internet thus neglecting our familia and not spending time to build our technical skills. As a sociopath, there are many systems and mechanisms we put in to retard our competition for beautiful humans, money, jobs, businesses and resources. For you will do the same for yourself and/or your familia.
haahah i was left out by alot of jc grps after they found out i was from ite even after i entered poly i was very ostracized. AHHA suck to be them now look who got into med sch :p

You go you Pei Ying, the future is ever so bright!
ITE you can learn hands on practical skill. Go higher learning is for knowledge all the theory. Its good to combine both and apply what you learn.
Which jc you go to only need to memorise?? So good? U sure u from jc?
I prefer JC

JC offers internship with popular companies. So the hands on and practical issue are irrelevant to point out
You can even become a certified MOE teacher or tuition center with high distinction of grades in JC. The pay is pretty awesome

@Heinz Wesley two hundred sadly we have to accept the fact that if we are not in prestigious schools, quality of student in school tends to be poor

Good job Pei Ying! Giving back to the community and society is the best joy and most fulfilling job one can have! :)
What an inspiration, I'm sure she will be able to achieve her dream in animation industry.
All I saw was an intelligent girl trying to inspire the world around her. Circumstance may pull your down for a while, but not for a lifetime!
