  • What is the life of a 22-year-old? For Aqilah, it's taking on a job on the night-shift as her family's breadwinner, and playing "dad" to her six younger siblings. She doesn't see it as a sacrifice, though, to secure their future - with some outside help.

      Affection, gentleness, warmth, concern, and care are words that are associated with kindness. While kindness has a connotation of meaning someone is naive or weak, that is not the case. Being kind often requires courage and strength. She's the embodiment of all these! I wish her nothing but the best!

    I think it's pretty terrible. As a mom, I would NEVER rely on my children as a source of income. She could start planning a family of her own, have fun and enjoy her life, but she has to raise the family of another woman. I know it's easy to judge... But honestly it makes me sad. She didn't ask for this. Even if her mom was "helping", she shouldn't be helping in the first place because it's her job, as a primary care-giver, to look after her children's needs. This really angers me.

    On one level, this is noble and admirable, but on another level it’s unfortunate for Aquila. Being forced into the role of their family’s husband and father, provider and protector is a sacrifice that might cause her not to want children of her own if this continues for years. The story makes it appear that their mother does nothing to help, though I doubt that’s the case. I wonder why her father didn’t teach his wife how to manage the bills. There is too much left out of the story to make sense of it.

    The problem is the father, keep making babies like there's no tomorrow then leaving his kids and wive. I've heard a lot of similar stories from my friends. The Malay community (not all but most) need to change their thinking as a whole. This kind of problem will affect a person's life and their future. Why do a child need to work to support their siblings when their parents are still there? That is ridiculous. If you dont want to have a lot of kids just use protection.

    • @wemuk5170
      @wemuk5170 5 років тому +14

      shagufta bilal Why did her mother lied then? Her mother absolutely & definitely said that he left the family & went abroad. Most people are more confused 🤔rather than judging the family. They are trying to understand ‘how come’ the father is, in effect, giving his family such a hard time? The daughter has to support the whole family! The mother might have an invisible illness (like lupus/anything that cannot be seen from mere appearance & in need of support herself) so, where is her husband?
      If he works overseas & sends money home, then, his daughter would not need to be the breadwinner. You follow? This story doesn’t make sense unless the father has something to hide. Why go overseas to work/train without sending any money 💰 home (even work trainees are paid), leaving 7 kids(7!) plus an elderly mother, for the young lady to support & care? She is no doubt amazing. 👏👏👏
      Finally, [no one is assuming anything since the father’s departure was what the mother said] IF the father is supporting the family from an overseas job, then, CNA Insider would be exaggerating or misleading viewers by portraying her as the family’s breadwinner: she would just be someone who is mature minded who happened to be forced to help contribute financially to her family’s upkeep - due to her parents’ (or father’s) choice to have so many children.🧐

    Wts up with ppl who commented about ‘why have 7 children when cannot afford’. Watch the video and understand it. The family shared good habits and positive values since young. They work their way to stay financially stable yet enjoying everyone’s company. Hey I know lots of children who are mostly a single child, get full financial support from parents but are still unhappy and spoilt.

    if this is in Malaysia, the mother can sell nasi lemak or kuih for breakfast or banana fritters at the small stall in front of her flat/apartment..at least can get RM200 per day enough to cover daily expenses like food and bills. But singapore has strict regulation on such small businesses..thus restricting the mother's choice of surviving.

    • @cptknuckles669
      @cptknuckles669 5 років тому +1

      Actually Singapore is quite flexible with home based businesses. I also do home cooking. The only regulations are that you can't have stall and paid promos, but you can do delivery or self collect, and can advertise on free platforms like facrbook groups. And there will always be people who want to buy.

    This is a regular occurence to most Asian families. I have been a bread winner myself starting at age 14 helping my Dad meet ends meet while our Mom is in the hospital. All of my siblings graduated college. I had to leave it for awhile and only finished it 2 years ago at age 36. Only drawback, I am fast becoming an old person and due to the damages it caused my psyche of the hardships of life, I have become a lonely person because i avoided relationships that could have made me better. I don't regret anything. But I guess we all become damage from the things we experience...I just miss my Dad, I wish he was there when I finished bachelors degree, I know he would have been happy because I didnt give up on his dream for me.

    This is ridiculous. We see this all the time happening in the Philippines. It is what keeps millions of Asians in poverty forever. The concept that the eldest sibling is financially responsible for the entire family, siblings, parents, and even grandparents. They work 12 - 18 hours per day for very little pay and they send that money back home to their families. It is a ridiculous mindset.

      @@kelana2825 invest in yourself for a start. Buy books about financial education. I highly recommend Rich dad poor dad among others. And there are a number of low-risk investment such as government bonds and perhaps even property to start with and start building a portfolio from there on. Start small if you don't have plenty as long as you start doing something about it. Never underestimate the power of compounding. Even a small interest on a fixed term deposit is a good way to start with. Furthermore, a small interest of 3-4% interest is enough to offset inflation.
      Financial education is not something we learn in school. We have to seek this education by ourself and act upon it. That's the hardest part.
