You are so right!! Led Zeppelin. Boston.. Journey ( Steve Perry) ..Shit I forgot Pink Floyd;! We grew up in the free era!! Hell I'm still an old hippie!!
It seems around 1995 human beings forgot how to make music. And it hasn't come back. In fact every year it gets worse. What do you think happened? We went from everything to nothing in the blink of an eye. Any thoughts on the matter you would like to share?
Brad Delp had a voice that was truly unbelievable. His range was just amazing! So sad he passed the way he did. Thanks for taking me back with this Boston series!!
Boston is driving music...roll your windows down and turn it up! Just drive. Doesn't matter where...better yet it's best to have no real destination...just drive, listen, feel and experience euphoria. We have just one life. I could listen to Boston forever.
I had the pleasure of seeing Boston 8 years ago. On the chorus where they sing "I finally see the dawn arising" and "i can see the road I'm driving", everyone in the crowd sings the "I" part. Fantastic!
Fun Facts about Boston's "Don't Look Back" album . There are 200 edits to the drum track on the song "Don't Look Back" Keep in mind, this is recorded on tape. Editing is done by cutting the tape and splicing it back together. It's very tedious. After the massive success of the debut album, Tom Scholz built another basement studio at a different location . Recording the new album was plagued with delays do to the new basement flooding. Between that and touring, Tom had little time to record the second album. Even worse, Epic records was putting intense pressure on Tom to finish it ( On average it takes Tom 6-8 years to complete an album. The Boston debut was 6 years in the making) It got so bad, Epic records literally took (stole) the master tapes from Tom. Then they filed a breach of contract lawsuit against him and released the album ( In the 1970's, most recording contracts required bands to put out albums around every 6 months. There was a two year gap between BOSTON and DON'T LOOK BACK) During the lawsuit Tom and Brad weren't allowed to record so Tom kept busy by designing and building the ROCKMAN amplifier thru his RS&D company. Tom ended up WINNING the lawsuit and changed the way record contracts were done . In the end, Tom wasn't happy with the final results of 'Don't look back" He felt it was under produced. He also swore he would never be pressured into finishing a project.
I’m glad another younger generation sees……….. I mean, hears the homologous sounds of Boston. Here’s one for ya: Queen, One vision! That’s a powerful band also!!!
This reaction is too fucking cool, man! Thank you ! Jesus Christ! Thank you! I've been binjing on Boston lately listening and re-listening to the music I love with all my heart. It was so much with me as a teen. Now after an unexplainable time away, I'm loving it more than before, if that's even possible! And I'm getting off on your reaction, your respect for the music, the way you let it play through. It's like hello, cya later, hello again, you makers of the finest music that rock had to offer, then and now. Thanks again, brother!
It's massive because the album is amazing! Brad Delp's voice is instantly recognizable, and instead of having one instrument more prominent in their songs all of them are hard and strong. I would never fail to recognize that a song was theirs even if I'd never heard it before.
Tom studied how the human ear hears music and what it like and designed the Boston sound based on what he learned. He’s a pure genius in numerous ways.
It's funny because Boston in 1977 was my first real Rock concert and indeed it was at an arena. There was a really small Arena where I lived which I saw a lot of great shows at, including Van Halen on their second album tour. But then they built this bigger one outside of town which by today's standards would be fairly small. Boston just destroyed it. In fact I've made the comment many times that when you get that wall of sound from really low base all the way to the crispist top fidelity and those towering vocals and harmonies just bouncing and ringing off the walls of this Arena and completely filling its space with all these people screaming and yelling, it's an amazing experience. I never heard the arena Rock term until quite later. It's just funny to look back because I saw so many shows like that during that era at arenas. It was just the main thing. And I said also say that Boston concert in '77 was a ticket price including all the fees and extras of $7.50.
Yes, do a twofer reaction with 'The Journey' and 'It's Easy'. During the time of vinyl albums, many bands had compositions that spanned 2 tracks. Boston has more of these on the 3rd album, Third Stage, and the 4th album, Walk On. Styx did one on Paradise Theater; 'A.D. 1928' slides right into 'Rockin' the Paradise'. The Kings did a fantastic twofer with 'This Beat Goes On' and 'Switchin' to Glide'. Jackson Brown has a stellar twofer on the Running on Empty live album, 'The Load-Out' & 'Stay'. That was a great thing about vinyl albums; if the artist wanted you to enjoy a twofer, they cut the actual vinyl record so that there was no break between the two tracks. For that matter, many albums have a distinct theme between the sides of the album. Yes, albums had actual sides. Each side could hold about 22 minutes of recording, at 33 rpm. WARNING! The Don't Look Back album is excellent, but it is not the first album. Do NOT expect another delicious serving of the first album. Allow this album to stand on its own; it's a damn good album. Don't compare it to the first one. EXTREME WARNING! The following album, Third Stage, is very different from the first 2. Again, allow that album to stand on its own. I enjoy all 3 albums, but they each speak to me differently. For that matter, the 4th album is even further from the first 2 albums. I wasn't a fan at first listen. It took me a couple of spins on the turntable before it grew on me.
I was a senior in high school when this album was released. I had waited two long years for this second album and wasn't disappointed. Imagine being 17 and having this playing on your car radio as you're cruising with your friends. I guess we never really understand when we're experiencing something like this at the time how important it will still be to us when we're older. There's nothing out there now that even compares to Boston. Nothing even comes close, though a few have tried. Loved your reaction!
Boston.... we played these albums front to back so much in the 70s I still know every word. LOVE me some Boston!! Thanks... love to watch your reactions. You seem real, are informative and appreciative. We old rockers appreciate this. ✌
This is my favorite album by them. I’ve owned the vinyl, cassette and CD of this one, and darn near wore each out. Don’t Look Back became a mantra of mine in high school and college. This album, especially this song, got me through a lot of hard times over the years, and it’s still one of my go-to songs when I just want to escape into music. This song is an incredible, defiant shout of joy that he’s found his way, implying a hard road behind. He sees the things in his life that are holding him back. He sees where he’s going and understands that all the past was leading him to finally seeing where he wants to be, and he won’t dwell back there anymore. Love your little giggles of delight, too. (This one is even better live, if you can believe it.) The Journey is kind of a lead-in to It’s Easy, much like Foreplay/Long Time. Best to take them together. This whole album is amazing. You’re in for quite a ride!
Helene her. Hi Sal! I bought the first album when it came out on cassette and played the living daylights out of it. Loved it. So much so that I never bought any of their other albums. So this will be interesting for me to hear what they did after that.
Wow! I love that you are listening to and reacting to one of my favorite bands ever...Boston!!! Those guitars though! I can't get enough of them, and I have to listen to them at least once a day. Lol
Hey Brother! Great reaction! Your facial expressions just remind me of the ones I would have had when I first heard this album in 1978. "Party, It's Easy and Don't Be Afraid" are great ones! Thanks for keeping great music alive and vibrant!!
I distinctly remember the hype and anticipation for Boston's follow up album(s) and after hearing their first album for so long and dying for more the sales zoomed!
“The Journey/It’s Easy” is a combined song kind of like “Foreplay/Long Time,” so they should be listened to together. Really another excellent Boston song. “A Man I’ll Never Be” is one of the best ballads you’ll ever hear anywhere. “Feelin’ Satisfied” is another great Boston rocker. Boston could do no wrong with their first 2 albums. Tom Scholz, the creative writer and song meister was not as happy with the second album as the Studio was pushing him to get it out the door asap while they were hot. For any other band, their “Don’t Look Back” album would be the pinnacle of creativity. For Boston, it was merely a terrific 2nd album (7 times Platinum!) compared to their truly legendary debut album - one for the ages.
Their best song is AMANDA on their 3rd album- Third Stage. It was number 1 for 6 weeks. Were ready, the 2nd song has the classic signature boston sound.
My anticipation for the third stage is unabound! Thank you for including me on this journey I took a long time ago. It's good to retrace your steps sometimes. Just like it was with STYX.. plenty of music ahead young man. Put on your seatbelt.
LETS GOOOOO SALVOG IS THE KING 👑 AND I SAW MY COMMENT THIS DUDE IS THE BEST UA-camR AROUND Salvo, don’t look back, the journey, and it’s easy are like bridge songs, which mean they bridge to each other perfectly, so you’d have to listen them one after another in that order, and it’ll sound really cool! The first album came out in '75, as I started my senior year. Disco ruled the airwaves. But a few bands, Kansas and Foreigner showed that rock wasn't dead. Boston had the biggest impact... then nothing. I joined the AF and was stationed at a radar site in Alaska. No local radio station. Armed Forces radio was a little behind. We had a quarterly sports competition with radar site, still remote, but closer to Fairbanks. After the competition, we all went to the NCO club, and I heard a song... the sound was familiar and the vocals were unmistakable... I went to the juke box to see what was playing. It was Don't Look Back. Made my way to Fairbanks to get the album the first chance I got.
A man I'll never be is on the softer side, but really good.Have you done my favorite Boston song yet? Give a listen to Let Me Take You home tonight.🎛🎹🎸🥁🎤🎶💋👊
I saw them in Portland, Maine in late 1978 at the outset of the tour for this album. As enthusiastic as the crowd was, the band seemed even more pumped to get it out on stage.
Spectacular ! Wonderful memories of "Boston" ! Thank you SalvoG ~ peace. ~ By the way, have you reacted to "The Doors", The Police/Sting(solo) or "The Cars" or Tina Turner(solo after Ike ) yet ?
Boston's 2nd album was delayed in release because the single reel to reel tape of the album was accidentally exposed to heat and the tape was fused on the reel. Tom Scholz (MIT Graduate/genius)spent weeks peeling the tape off slowly, one inch at a time using liquid silicone lubricant, to recover the album!!! He continues to invent music related devices to this day!
yes and no. The tape did stick and Tom did have to peel it off however, it happened on the song "cool the engines" from the Third Stage album. Tom didn't have a backup copy on the song. that's why he did what he had to in order to save it.
Oh man, this song was the bomb! After Boston not being able to play in the United States for 12 years, for reasons I cannot remember, I got to see them in person at the Texas Jam, Utterly amazing!!!
This is another great album, wasn't disappointed when I got it in '78. You've reacted to Queen, and know Freddie's range. I'm suggesting "Save Me", from their live Montreal 1981 concert. You won't be disappointed.
I've been to nearly 100 concerts throughout the 70s and 80s. I've even been to McCartney. While AC/DC remains my favorite act to see, the Boston concert was the best concert of them all. I've never seen a band and the crowd feed off of each other the way that happened at this venue. Incredible. This was the song that brought the house down. You could tell from the band's faces that something very special was happening. Symbiosis.
I was 17. You have to realize we had no internet, analog hard wired phones. Long distance calls were the equivalent of 10 bucks a minute. For music we had am radio which was huge and records. An album cost 10-12 bucks. Today that would be like 75- 100 bucks. We all worked summer jobs to buy music. A week or 2 boxing groceries or mowing lawns to buy one album. We cared for them like a new born baby. We met at each other's houses and spent hours listening to music, with parents pounding on the wall," turn it down"! Ahh. Great times.
It would not be possible to top the debut album, but this is still an excellent one. As you listen, keep in mind that Scholz was under heavy pressure by Epic (the record company) to churn it out. He stated in interviews that, at least production-wise, he felt like this album was incomplete; ever the perfectionist.
The more of your Boston reaction videos I watch, the more I realize I know and love all these songs, yet have never owned a single one of their albums! Time to fix that! 😅
Tom Scholz MIT graduate designed and engineered their music and some equip. It was 1978 Me and my Santa Cruz skate boardwith this music literally evveryday
Don't look Back, The Journey and It's Easy is basically one big concerto. One leading into another. So now look into finding the Journey and It's Easy together as one file. This album rocks even if the Production was rushed by the record label. It's what led to Tom Scholz lawsuit against them and why Third Stage didn't come out until 1986. The following albums are all far apart in release time. He's doing it all himself.
I remember when this album was released. It felt like three years, instead of two, between the first and second albums. The first album is a masterpiece, with every song a classic. The second album does contain two or three classic tunes, including this incredible song, and a couple of other good songs, but the rest of the album is mediocre, IMHO. The band had a couple of other hits in follow up albums, but they never maintained their success over the long run. However, when they were hot, they were the hottest in the land. I love them.
If rock vocals was an Olympic event Brad Delp would have a room full of gold medals 🎖 R I P Brad
Maybe silver medals, behind Steve Perry. And thats not an insult.

Well said!!🤘🤘🔥🔥

My high school years...wouldn't change it for nothing our music was the best!!
You are so right!! Led Zeppelin. Boston.. Journey ( Steve Perry) ..Shit I forgot Pink Floyd;! We grew up in the free era!! Hell I'm still an old hippie!!
Me too. The music , man, we were blessed.
Heck. I grew up in the 80s and early 90s and still listened to way more of this generation than I did my own.
Yes!! Cruising and blasting in 1976, for me!! I would love to relive those days....
@Jodi Mae I was 14 years old when this album came out, was fantastic 👌
It's great to see you rocking out to the great 70's music we loved back then! Nothing today gets close!
It seems around 1995 human beings forgot how to make music. And it hasn't come back. In fact every year it gets worse. What do you think happened? We went from everything to nothing in the blink of an eye. Any thoughts on the matter you would like to share?

1,000,000 copies in 10 days. Their first album was the best debut sold in History. We were hungry for more.
Boston is very special and your face says it all!!
"A man I'll never be"...simply perfect ❤️
The vibes from this album are amazing.
Third Stage is Awesome also The Launch/ Cool the Engines is a must off of this album.

You’ll love “Feeling Satisfied”, “Party”, and “ A Man I’ll Never Be”
Crisp is the way I describe their overall sound.
Always liked Boston as one of my favorite’s.

The only word to describe Boston is magical. Only Journey comes close in that regard.

Thank you for checking this out!!!
Hey Brother! Great reaction! Your facial expressions just remind me of the ones I would have had when I first heard this album in 1978. "Party, It's Easy and Don't Be Afraid" are great ones! Thanks for keeping great music alive and vibrant!!
My absolute favourite Boston tune!! 😀
Boston is great guitar rock,,,,💥💥💥👍😎
The next two songs flow, one into the other, so by all means play them together.
A worthy follow-up to a monster debut. "Feelin Satisfied" is my fave from the album.

Salvo, don’t look back, the journey, and it’s easy are like bridge songs, which mean they bridge to each other perfectly, so you’d have to listen them one after another in that order, and it’ll sound really cool! So you could put the ending of don’t look back, the journey and it’s easy on the same video, that’ll be a nice one. Just a suggestion for the king 👑 ❤

Journey and It's Easy must be done together. Journey is like the intro to the song
“The man I’ll never be” is a beautiful ballad

Iconic guitar solos and vocals.
I wish I still had the feeling of when I heard it for the first time. Nothing better its fun seeing it threw you.
And through him too 😊
They kicked ass live!
The more of your Boston reaction videos I watch, the more I realize I know and love all these songs, yet have never owned a single one of their albums! Time to fix that! 😅
One of my faves in High School! ❤️♥️😊😎
Yes don’t look back the follow up mostly great can’t wait to watch love you
Just as fantastic as the first album love every track
Sounded just like this live too, so good
My first concert! Check out Feelin' Satisfied too.
Wall to Wall sound perfection 🇺🇲👍🎸🎙️🎵
Tom Scholz MIT graduate designed and engineered their music and some equip. It was 1978 Me and my Santa Cruz skate boardwith this music literally evveryday
Don't look Back, The Journey and It's Easy is basically one big concerto. One leading into another. So now look into finding the Journey and It's Easy together as one file. This album rocks even if the Production was rushed by the record label. It's what led to Tom Scholz lawsuit against them and why Third Stage didn't come out until 1986. The following albums are all far apart in release time. He's doing it all himself.
A man ill never be' is the perfect song!!!! Please give that a shot....
Dude! You’ve got to watch the live version of “Don’t look back”!
Yes, do both songs in one video
Gotta shout out Tom's bass playing
Some good songs on this album!!
Best emotional song rock old school
Def do The Journey & It’s Easy together. The Journey pretty much connects the DLB & Easy.
What instrument makes the click click sound ? No other band has that. If it's guitar - what a guitarist.
For me Boston are the best Harmony rock band of all time.
Ironic that a song titled "Don”t Look Back" is one of a handful of songs that instantly transports me to my dorm room in 10th grade.
OK! Next stop Chicago!😊
Epic song! 🎤🎼🎸🥁
SG, does it seem to you as it does to me that the first album had a more powerful sound?
Youvhave to know thatbpeople were different back then so the music shined !!!
Brad Delp’s voice is unbelievable… However, the story of how/why his life ended, is a sad one… 😮
