      Spain was like the wild west and the Reconquista was like the Western Expansion in the USA.
      Christians, Kings, city-states, mercenaries, Bandits, Arab Muslims and much more. Very interesting part of history.

      Reconquista is the longest war in human recorded history. It lasted almost 800 years! I am so proud to have Garcia as my last name and Spanish blood. From the humble beginnings of Pelayo to Queen Elizabeth as the most powerful woman in the world with her husband Ferdinand. Queen Elizabeth of Spain deserves better recognition and respect than Columbus.

Though you miss some facts, for instance Recaredo s army lost in 711 facing the muslims due to half his army, the sides siding with them, high treason, due to a dispute for the right to be king, either the one then or the son of Witiza. Anyway Don Pelayo is our hero. Stands above any other one.

    amazing video, but I don't think "arab" is the best way to call the muslim invaders of Spain, because they were mostly North Africans and not from Arabian Peninsula

      Visigoths referred to their Kingdom as "Spania", derived from Hispania. Hispania, Spania, Espania. The majority of Iberia is Spain.

    Please...Don't confuse Spain with Hispania.Or just call with the Iberian Penisula...I hate when you call it all Spain.

      I understand that this bothers some people, and I am sorry for that. However, this is the common language used in the English-speaking world and therefore I use it so that people will be able to find these videos. If I make a video called the Reconquista of Hispania, that will get far less attention in the English speaking world than if it is named Reconquista of Spain. My use of the term Spain is in no way meant to detract from the independence and value of Portugal or the many distinctive ethnic groups within Iberia. Remember, back in the medieval world Spain was made up of many kingdoms. The terms Spain is really just a modern translation of the term Hispania in terms of the context I'm using it.

      I understand why you use it, but I don't really think why would the english viewer turn away by the term of Hispania or teh Iberian Penisula.

    • @RealCrusadesHistory
      @RealCrusadesHistory  10 років тому +2

      ff fuu It's not that I think they would turn away from it, I don't think they would find it in the first place. Spain is a commonplace term in English, Hispania and even Iberia are more obscure terms.

      Most Americans at least are not taught European geography or history very much except in college courses maybe. Much like people in Spain don't know the geography or history of Arkansas or Texas. Then again I know a great deal of European history and geography. It's all relative.
