Saint Fernando: History's Greatest King? | Córdoba's Fall, 1236 - RECONQUEST OF SPAIN
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- As a young man, Fernando III, King of León-Castile, successfully navigated the tumultuous landscape of his family’s internal conflicts. He was a valiant general, and a dedicated Christian, who led many crusades into al-Andalus. His most determined opponent was Ibn-Hud, a former mercenary who claimed to be a descendant of the old emirs of Zaragoza. A gifted commander and courageous warrior, Ibn-Hud rallied the Muslims of al-Andalus, and stood in defiance of King Fernando. Ultimately this battle would culminate at Córdoba, the one-time capital of the Umayyad Arab conquerors of Spain.

I saw his tomb in the Seville Cathedral two weeks ago. Very solemn place.
I went to Seville and it's cathedral too nearly six years ago, and may have visited his tomb.
The Hispanic World recognizes him and his son as two of its greatest Monarchs
There is no such thing as a Hispanic world. Yet there is one Spain. As for the word Hispanic that is made up word from the United States Of America. The US government Anglicize the Latin word Hispanicus dropped the u and created this word. In my day we used the correct term Iberian. And I am retired from the Federal Government.
Latinos as usual sucking up to their Spanish masters 😂
It's nice to see a video like this, it feels like the reconquest is overshadowed by many other events and doesn't get talked about very often.
It rarely gets talked about unless you're of Spanish decent, it's common history is Spanish speaking countries. Since without it not only would Europe likely have been conquered by Muslims but without it the Spanish empire would not be nearly as impactful or powerful. The reconquista was one of middle ages Europe's most important events.
@@alexcavazos3341 I know, Portugal and Spain both are very important to history of the world. Without them the world will look so different
@@reygonzalez4719 And standing on top of the shoulders of the Romans and Visigoths.
Saint Fernando was a true hero.
True Coward*
The Reconquista is underrated. The Spanish and Portugese monarchs, the crusading orders, the aristocrats and commoners deserve more credit.
Is there a video covering the Battle of Lucena 1483?
Longest lasting war in world history, 700+ years with an estimated 7 million casualties.
What Muslims conquered in just 7 years, the ✝️umor conquered in 800 years! Pathetic 🤣🤣🤣
Saint Fernando, ora pro nobis.
He's burning in hell, how can he pray for you? 😂😂😂
inspiring stuff, La Reconquista rocks
I am a fan of the Cordoban Caliphate though...
Yes, thievery ,murder and slavery and extreme torture must rock for you while it just sucks for clear thinking people. You people are hilarious.
A Reconquista, the L is just for Castile
@@frank-ko6de You are peddling fake news nutcase. The reconquista was the resistance against your islamic colonisers..
@@frank-ko6de You might be confusing it with the Muslims of Al-Andalus.
San Fernando nearly completed the Reconquista. He was at it's last steps. I have been to Sevilla and it's cathedral, and may have seen his tomb there. A true hero of Christendom, and the fact that he's one of the only kings (along with King Louis IX of France) to be christened as a saint is testament to that. He makes me proud of my Spanish heritage (I'm Mexican of mostly Spanish descent).
Why wasn't Granada reconquered till 1492
@@baha3alshamari152 I think because the Muslim rulers there were already paying tribute to the Christians. Also because Granada is surrounded by mountains so it wasn’t as easy to reconquer.
@@baha3alshamari152 Granada became vassal of the Kingdom of Castille
@@abcjuniormilton It’s actually because it was a tribunal kingdom that was paying off to the kingdom of Castile, basically making them filthy rich. It would’ve been conquered much sooner but there was setbacks of disease, infighting, and of course the tribute money was too good.
A proud heritage.
Whats the best way to watch in chronological order? I feel lost when I watch these as ive been skipping forward and backwards in time. Thanks for all the hard work, enjoy these very much!

Thanks for making justice to the incredibly underrated San Fernando, patron saint of my city Sevilla!! This year I went to see his uncorrupted remains in the cathedral, which are exposed only once a year, and it's truly mind blowing, he's so well for being a thousand years old!
Thank you!
Is it on May 30?
@@lucillebonds2196 Yes it is!
Seville, Cordoba, Barcelona, Granada, Cadiz etc.. and even Spain itself were named by the Semitic Phoenicians and Carthaginians and were civilized by the Semitic Arabs, give credit where it's due
As for Fernando, he's burning in hell 🔥
Looking forward to this, don't often get to watch live as I work nights.
God Bless Saint Fernando. The Holy warrior King of God!
Unholy. The crusades first targeted Christians. The people who protested the biblical antichrist the papacy.
Feast Day is May 30.
@@lucillebonds2196 Thanks and god bless you!
God bless.
He's burning in hell 🔥
St Fernando de Cordoba, pray for us.
the way Fernando is ignored is simply criminal, I hope you make videos about other great Iberian crusaders, talk about Dom Duno, Dom Gualdim Pais, Geraldo "without fear"
Massive warrior!! Please, more about Dom Gualdim Pais, Dom Duno and Geraldo the fearless.
🇵🇹🤝🏼🇪🇸
Both of them were destroyed in Morocco, lol 😂😂
Portugal in 1578 and Spain in 1921
@@julia2k8 For what I heard, Moors used to live better under Portuguese and Spanish territory 🤭
@@salazarway it was the opposite, it was Spanish and Portuguese who lived under Moors for 800 years 😂
@@julia2k8 You got information from the Falsebook aswell?

Definitely the Greatest King! Wise, brave, magnanimous and Saint! His son, Alfonso, the highest IQ King, the most intelligent and intellectually develop of the Middle Ages.
Thanks for sharing this.King Fernando 16th great-granddaughter, Maureen
San Fernando ruega por nosotros
Sancte Ferdinande, ora pro nobis
El Cid was a total badass
From a tiny kingdom persecuted by invaders, to a massive global empire. What a run in history. If I were Spain (yes, a country) I would retire forever.
What men and women were the Spanish Catholics! Viva Christo Rey!
Fernando is to Spain what Richard was to England. Not just a man but a full blown folk hero.
Great Episode!
Absolutely fantastic! Gracias amigo 👍🏻
Finally some good content on this subject !
Would be amazing if we had more content about the Order of Christ!
Southern California, where my people come from, is full of place names deriving from the long history of the struggle with Islam. The northern half of the City if Los Angeles (itself named after the Virgin Mary - El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora La Reina de Los Angeles aka The City of Our Lady The Queen of the Angels) is the San Fernando Valley, often called The Valley. It is named after the hero of this program. So is the Franciscan Mission at its heart.
South California was Spanish n Mexican territory. That's why, same with Florida, anywhere where the Spanish touched they left their culture
Islam is here to stay and there's nothing you can do about it 🏴
@@JonsJonesing no I'm just sick and tired of this christian hatred and obsession with Islam
São Fernando rogai por nós!

Thanks, will do!
Chévere video caballero. I hope you also cover other lesser known cruzades like the Baltic ones and specially against the Hussites🧐
Thank you for this video!!!
AWESOME AWESOME VID. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT
More to come!
Saint Fernando, glorious Holy King! Pray for us sinners!
That is why the Cortes of Madrid must retrieve, arrange and codify the Royal Charters of Castile which is the basis of the secular authority of the Spanish Monarch being the living embodiment of Spain , that is, Spain personified ....
excluding our Blessed Lord, wouldn't King David be considered the greatest king? and then behind him perhaps Saint Luis or Fernando?
I think he's definitely in the running.
Is there evidence of King David?
@@fortunatomartino8549 Yes. Some people believe his story in the bible is exagerated though. There are different opinions, of course. Some believe the history in the bible is accurated.
Great video!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Fernando was a great King❤

Well done 👍
Incredible!

I'm here because he's our patron saint in our Barangay.
The Mesquita is awesome and the old roman bridge. Cordoba is great.
it's a cathedral, not a mosque and it was built as a church (though smaller) before the islamic occupation of Spain.
Lo facilmque que es hacer historia hoy día desde el extranjero mejor aquí hay muchos
de que estas hablando tu?
Great content
His feast day is coming up! Let's do a Novena for the the big project that the Hispanic Americans are working on to tell the full history of the Catholic Church during the time of the Conquest in America.
What is your source material?
It's all listed in the description box.
Recently found out Saint Fernando was my 22nd Great Grandfather!
