I quite agree with you bubba mike. If you consider that the history of the past has consequences today most of western Europe are not even slightly aware of eastern European history. I only knew about Novgorod from the perspective of its dealings with the Mongols.
The Deutschritter-Orden, it's original name, organised for the entire European nobilty bounty-raids, officially crusades, into the Baltics and Belarus. The simple trick is the religion. The term Slawes comes from slaves. These eastern germanic tribes, like the Poles, were all heathens. The church, means the pope in Rome, allowed it, to enslave them and to take their lands, easy business. Germans are a mixture of Celtes and Germanics ( in the EDDA called Wanes & Æsir). As more as You travel to the east of Europe people get more germanic and less celtic. My statement there are no Slawes by race will bring me a lot of enemies, mainly in the pan-slawian Russia. Iceland became a Christian island by Snorri Sturlusson to avoid the invasion of the King of Denmark and Norway. It was not allowed by the church to conquer christian countries.

Was there a use for the horned helmets? It seems like more of a disadvantage for you to have a headpiece with more area space away from the center. If it were to catch a swing from a weapon, it could jar the helmet loose or skew it. Was there a purpose other than the visual?
Last Templar makes sense, and I figured so - seems more detrimental though considering a helmet usually has limited space for vision. It would be bad to catch any contact to the crown that might distort the balance, blinding the wearer.
The kind of forgotten history. but I grew up in Estonia 🇪🇪 and was told the history of the crusades against the pagans and the creation of the kingdom of Livonia. And the failed invasion of Novgorod. So happy to see this story being told

These bad boys just got +2 melee armor.
That was very well put together man I really enjoyed it
Unfortunately You not mentioned the Hungarian episode with king Andrew II before Prussia. Because the order not subordinate to the kingdom of Hungary, they were expelled after a battle, where they defeated from the army of the Hungarian king, who was also fought in the Holy Land.
yes, I was waiting for the part with Hungary
too bad Polish Prince didn't hear about it or what... that he invited teutonics over... but who really knows how it was...
As far as I know Konrad I of Mazovia learnd about Teutonic Order from Henry the Bearded of Silesia, the most influential leader of Polish principalities of the first half of XIII century. Don't know whether he was informed about what problems Andrew II of Hungary had with the Order. The rest is history
This historical account is extremely entertaining to me! Great job!
Awesome and very informative video, I couldn't stop listening. I sympathize more with the Old Prussians and their ancient pagan faith and practices (except for polygyny), but I have a lot of respect for the men on both sides who fought bravely and gave their lives for what they believed in.
Glad you enjoyed it
To be honest, although I sympathise with Pagans, much of the history we know is the one that was chosen to be written.
We don't really know jack S about what truly happened. And this goes for 2000 years of European history.

Ah yeah the noble savage, i also believed in that when i was a child.
Hard for girls to sympathize with them when we wouldve been the ones enslaved and gang raped by them.

@@nebojsademir739 But you can't download!
@ NewPipe allows you to download. But it's not in the play store for obvious reasons.
@@marcorc5167 I don't know what NewPipe is but I simply record everything on to my dvd as I watch on HDMI connected smart TV. I got an output hooked up to a DVD player and I just record whatever I want when I watch, then do a "send to" on to my computer, it's more versatile and reliable, this way I download stuff even if it's blocked from downloading.
Saudações do Brasil
15:33 don’t sound like ideal warriors to take with you in a hostile land
I'm very impressed with how this is presented..Well done.
Was there a use for the horned helmets? It seems like more of a disadvantage for you to have a headpiece with more area space away from the center. If it were to catch a swing from a weapon, it could jar the helmet loose or skew it. Was there a purpose other than the visual?
Intimidation, it makes you appear taller and a more striking opponent
Last Templar makes sense, and I figured so - seems more detrimental though considering a helmet usually has limited space for vision. It would be bad to catch any contact to the crown that might distort the balance, blinding the wearer.
The kind of forgotten history. but I grew up in Estonia 🇪🇪 and was told the history of the crusades against the pagans and the creation of the kingdom of Livonia. And the failed invasion of Novgorod. So happy to see this story being told
I know what I’m gonna watch at 3:00 AM tonight!
Great video, i really love the artwork you use.
One of my favorite civilizations in Age of Empires 2.
even as a german from brandenburg (former prussia) i am astonished about the local history, for we dont learn anything about it in school.
Martin just needed 20 good men. Lol
when you live by the code of Sun Tzu, you don't need many men ;)
Hi 👋
Thank you. Great channel.
Thank you too!
Age of empires they dont rixe horses. They infantry
Thought the same thing. XD
Historically inaccurate😂, they should be able to mount/dismount
Your work is amazing, very grateful to learn and enjoy from your work
Many thanks!
Where is the part when they got kicked out of Hungary (before the moved towards Prussia)?
This is a missing part.
@Nautical Miles You're wrong. They were invited by the Duke of Masovia to the pagan lands of west Baltic people called "Prussians".
The story ultimately ends with with a Polish/Tatar/Cossack coalition kicking the Germans out because they over stayed their welcome
@@pol.andphl.wankery7627 haha, how would you characterize German history in a nutshell?
