  • 2nd Look & Custom Barrel Update - Dan Wesson 715 6" Co2 Pellet
    • My ASG Dan Wesson 715 ...
    ==================================================
    This is fairly long and hopefully informative video review of my new ASG Dan Wesson 715 6" Co2 .177 pellet revolver.
    It's also a bit of an ongoing rant on my disappointment on an erroneous misleading technical specification on the pistol's actual rifled barrel length. Aside from talking about and sharing my thoughts on the gun, I compare it somewhat technically and aesthetically to a real Dan Wesson 715 .357 Mag firearm. I also run 4 different pellets variations through the chronograph, and also accuracy test it as well. This rehashes the rant on the 'too short'/'wrongly' spec'd rifled barrel length. I also add some last minute vid footage of a newly purchased Crosman Vigilante Co2 pistol with a longer (correctly spec'd) rifled barrel to compare accuracy results from the dismal Dan Wesson performance. As a true air gun replica of it's firearm counterpart, the DW 715 is truly got to be the finest aesthetic example, but as an accurate pellet revolver in it's cost and class, I haven't seen or experienced a worse example. How ASG could switch from a 5.5" rifled barrel to a current 2.5" in this large replica Co2 model is unbelievable... What's even more unacceptable is they ASG currently still spec it out as a 5.5" rifled inner barrel.
    So is it "Bait and Switch" or "Smoke and Mirrors"?
    You can decide for yourself.....

    Some finnish dude modified his dw 715 to shoot .25 cal pellets, and modified the valve and hammer spring, he got it up to 16fpe (22J)
    This gun would be best, to use the ASG hpa capsule and fill it +20, 30% more presssure than regular co2 and modified hammer and valve, so it would make the power its supposed to and mabe put a .22 or .25 cal barrel too

    Thank you very much for your video. I also saw the same gun in my location yestaday, but I noticed that the barrel length was less than half, i have some concerns so didn't make the purchase. Then I started searching for this gun. However, in some videos from 2016, it shows that the gun indeed had a 5.5-inch barrel. Perhaps the ASG made changes to it in recent years. Hi there! I own the ASG 6"chromed,in 4,5mms. The barrel is NOT rifled. I've watched here on UA-cam, that the rifled versions do NOT have the entire barrel rifled. Only the first inches. So the rifled barrel ones do have the same rifled barrel no matter the length they have. Only part of it is rifled.😮😮😢😢 I believe that this channel shows this too. With replicas not made in Japan, we can (and have) to wait bad matters. And by the way: to me they are all made in the same place. Watch closer please for example: the Umarex models 29s S&W and the ASG Dan Wesson 715. Look how they are made, look at the materials... Look at their cylinders, for example... Drop me a line if you want.

  • @archiemmiller

    Me personally, I enjoy the finish of the turn marks with the contrasting view on the cylinder, but that’s just personal preference. I have very limited metal working experience so that’s natural. • @VipersVideos

      I totally understand the contrasting view and actually it's not a bad look to me either. Just like anything though in manufacturing parts will vary, and some turn marks will be deeper and some more shallow. Deeper ones you can actually feel and will pick up dirt and grime through use is what I was more griping about. That with the short rifled barrel sent me into a nit pickey rant mode..lol

    In the UK we have the same issue with the Da Wesson 6inch barrel only having an effective 2.5 inch rifling. It leaves us feeling cheated. There is guy on UA-cam who adapted his gun by replacing the rifled barrel with a full 6inch insert. The accuracy was vastly improved.

    Very interesting vid. I have that pistol and was not aware of the rifling issue. Does the accuracy matter though? It's a great looking gun and lovely to handle. That spread at 30 ft. will still hit a tin can. I have a Weihrauch HW110 for when I need accurate shooting . As a previous comment noted; the Crossman does look pretty crap. My verdict, the DW is the better buy. Greetings from the UK, where this is the only type of pistol we can own!

    • @VipersVideos
      @VipersVideos  2 роки тому

      Greetings and great question. The only actual (two personal) reasons it bothered me are: #1.) I was really torn on which 6" model to buy as I actually wanted the Nickel plated smooth bore barrel (BB) version more for the looks but not wanting a bb accuracy gorgeous replica, so : #2.) I begrudgingly bought the dark steel grey version due to a stated 5.5" rifled pellet barrel figuring the accuracy would be more befitting of such a well made replica. Thus, I messed up my purchase as I didn't buy the "Looks" version I wanted and instead the 'Accurate' (5.5" spec'd rifled bbl) pellet version I thought I was getting turned out to be misrepresented with a short barrel and sadly inaccurate ironically enough even compared to the bb version**, and of course a 1/2 $ priced budget Crosman V pistol.
      - ** Recently I found a good deal (oddly lucky chanced obscure one time offer dealer, gone now) and got the 6" nickel bb version which has a longer, more appropriate ID barrel, and shooting at the same distance is just as accurate with bb's as the darker steel grey pellet version. But yeah, it's a fantastic well built, aesthetically accurate replica for sure!

    I've had the 4" model for a while and just today got the 6" model. Both have full length riflings. So apparently there are different versions floating around. I bought both of mine used so have no idea when they were made. Maybe the short rifling versions are made for countries like UK where there's an energy limit for license free airguns? Where I live, everything up and including .25 cal and uses air as propellant needs no license, no matter how fast it shoots.

    Great review. My newly acquired Umarex M29 .44 Magnum 8 inch barrel revolver has some of the same defects that you show here (I suspect they're both actually manufactured by KWC of Taiwan), with the lathe turn marks on the cylinder, and the much shorter inner barrel (about 6 inches instead of the full length of the 8 inches of the external one). But, at least the electroplating is perfect on it. You'd expect better quality from such specialized items? I love the fact that you took the time to compare it side-by-side with the real deal! To be clear the advantage of the longer barrel is increased sight radius. This induces less sighting error and improves accuracy. The longer barrel also allows for higher velocities letting the gas work a bit longer on the projectile. This is true with powder burners as well but there is a diminishing return based on the cartridge and powder burning rate.

    • @VipersVideos
      @VipersVideos  Рік тому

      1.) Yes, my DW715 pellet version came with slightly larger ID (a few thou's) cartridges, while my BB version came with slightly smaller ID cartridges.
      In the case of this model brand, ASG differentiated the cartridges due to pellets being 4.5mm/.177" on average, while bb's run about .171 - .174" on average. So yes, pellet and bb versions are different cartridges.
      2.) No, they are not the same guns barrel or cartridge wise. Pellet version gives you a small section of steel rifled barrel. While the BB version gives you a small section of smooth bore bb barrel.
      -----
      Lastly, I know very little about the airsoft version, but assume it would be a 6mm version with larger ID diameter cartridges and a larger diameter barrel bore. But that is only my assumption.

      Oddly enough I do know, but it is of course based on an actual one (the silver bb version I should have bought in the first place, lol) I bought last fall after this rifled barrel version fiasco.
      - What I found on my 6" bb version is: The Inner Actual Smooth Bore Barrel Is 5" Long. Then there is a slightly larger tube over that which is .510 longer but it is a larger diameter the actual barrel is slid into.
      - For whatever reason ASG calls it a 5.51" bbl, which is not correct!
      - Then the extra fake firearm bore looking thing which is just about .5" to make the total outside gun barrel/shroud 6" total.
      -So no matter what you read in sales marketing specs, the actual smooth bore barrel length is 5" Hope this helps. Good luck with you decision making!

    I've also heard this about the barrel mate, the 2.5" snub nose is the best 1

      Yep, I imagine it's the same barrel they would use in their 2.5" DW 715 model.

      @VipersVideos  2 роки тому

      Nope it's not. But it is a very budget friendly co2 pellet pistol with very decent power and accuracy. I like the DW 715 replica way better visually, but until I put/mod a longer (like specified length) rifled barrel in it, it's just a display piece at this point.

      I thought about sending it back but it was a real nice gun otherwise, so I ended up making a proper (actually over spec length) rifled barrel for it. Now It's a great gun! Here's the video: ua-cam.com/video/NT1PHdcJUmw/v-deo.html

    Lots of design issues on these due to trying to make a pellet gun look like a .357 revolver, which it is not. Forget the corny "realistic" looking barrel bore and just do a full length rifled .177 bore. Dump the STUPID "cartridge" style loading system and simply use a .177 bored cylinder or a rotary magazine design that simply inserts into the cylinder which could then be at least an 8 shot and not have to bother with the fake cartridges. Why limit the thing to a 6 shot to make it look like something it's not? AFA the cosmetics the video creator complains about I understand his annoyance but at this price point you can only expect so much. It would be a lot better if they focused on the functionality rather than trying to replicate $800+ firearm cosmetics. The Diana Raptor revolver is really a much better design because it doesn't waste time and functionality trying to be something it isn't, although it is rated at a little less velocity. But you get the full 8 round capacity that will fit in .177.

      No "design issues" that I noticed or mentioned. I talked/complained about my opinion on some "manufacturing issues" with this particular model/version.
      - I guess it's my opinion verses yours on what quality level of cosmetic finish/appearance you can expect for the cost. Overall, this issue wasn't a deal breaker.
      - My major complaint/frustration was the 'misrepresented' specification of the rifled steel barrel length. A manufacturing revision on this version as the original version had the specified length. Not a design issue at that point after the fact.
      - Not sure why you're mentioning the Diana Raptor (which I've not seen or heard of until now) but I wanted the DW 715 co2 replica to go with my actual real DW 715 which holds only six rounds/cartridges.
      - Sounds like you have it all figured out and prefer the Diana Raptor so I hope you have one to enjoy as much as it seems like you would. thys...

      The "stupid"cartridge cylinder has its purpose. When you are training to use the real gun, you get to use the proper method with cartridges as well. You get to train use of speed loaders, and manual loading.
      Yes, it does first hand sound stupid, but that is part of the revolvers to be bought...
