This was the most simple and AMAZING recipe I've found for bread without yeast! Love it! Because I'm vegan I substituted with Almond milk & 2 tbsp of lemon juice. I also included a separate bowl of 1cup of water in the oven while it was baking. It came out PERFECT... crunchy in outside and soft on the inside. Thanks again & God bless you!!!

@@sparijat dude. Let me save you the hassle. Half flour and water. Leave on counter top for a week. mix and add flour periodically. in a week it will smell good.(Smell everday so you get the idea of whats good and bad). In a week you will have a vat of yeast which if you use as much as i do, you can just put it in the fridge and feed as it needs. The yeast is in the air, not in the flour or food.

With other recipes, I've gotten great results w/ creating "buttermilk" by measuring 1 Tablespoon of cider vinegar into a 1 Cup measuring cup & then adding whole regular milk to that cup. Works every time w/ all recipes calling for buttermilk. If more than one cup of buttermilk is needed, fir example--1 1/3 cups buttermilk, just use portion of 1 tablespoon for portion of each cup=in this case, 1 Tb. + 1 tsp.

@@KMWeir Zero delivery on the internet. I'm serious, even Amazon lists it in stock but isn't delivering, same with Peapod, and other companies like King Arthur are giving priorities to markets. I am still able to find in big supermarkets, but you may have to check daily where you live as it's limited. I luckily live in a city that has supermarkets every 2 blocks in either direction, so food is plentiful. It's the disinfectant and sanitizers that we can't get anywhere. Overseas (I'm in U.S.) is worse because they do not even have it in stores. Complete lockdown, so no deliveries.
Having said that, look for my original comment and be sure you want to make it. I think she made an error, and I would hate for people to waste 4 cups of flour.

Thank you soooo much. Went to the store---no yeast and of course no TP. Lol. I'm in northern calif. Store limits 1 loaf of bread per person, so went to make my own but no yeast in stores either. No flour, but i have my preps of flour. Crazy crazy crazy times shopping. Days of just walking into store are gone along with their many supplies. They are not even delivering seasonings to many stores--you have to shop around. Lots of junk food available. Yuk. So i used your recipe to make artisan bread, but my yeast was too old...bread came out too dense but good. Which I've used your recipe since your video of it was made and fam loves it. Grateful for your teachings. They came in handy when store bread was limiting 1 per person. Lol. I left the store with the attitude that I will make my own!!! Cause I know how. I tried it, maybe last month or so, as I was preparing it, I was kind of mad as I thought I had made some mistakes (maybe over-kneading for this kind of bread, which is more like no-knead or just-incorporate-and-shape-it type), thinking a lot of flour would be wasted, but it ended up surprisingly good. I'll do it again in a few moments, now paying more attention to not knead too much and maybe adding more vinegar to the milk, it looks like 1/3 of a cup or so.

I had the same issues. Will adapt my recipe and hopefully the next effort will rise more than my first, though the taste was quite good. I've tried three different recipes, and this one has the best taste (for us) so far. I was using white bread flour. According to a comment left on another cooking site, bread shouldn't be cooked under 375 deg F, so that any unwelcome bacteria in the dough are killed off. Uncooked dough in a loaf can apparently harbour issues for anyone eating it.

Tried this for the first time today but it did not turn out. Not sure what I did wrong. I did end up using the whole milk and vinegar so not sure if that is why. The dough was very dry and would not come together. I did add a splash of milk a few times and ended up forcing the dough together but it remained very stringy. When I baked it it did not rise or spread very much and looked like a hard puck. When I cut it open the bread was very dense with no air bubbles. Any suggestions as to what I can do better next time.

I used this to make calzones in my air fryer. Put some garlic butter on it before I cooked it. It was delicious!

I live in VietNam and some ingredients are not to be found so I really, really appreciate YOUR RECIPE TIP for MAKING BUTTERMILK.
These homestead/hillbilly/farmhouse recipes are SO GOOD as they have easier to find basic ingredients instead of some exotic named herb.
Fruit and vegetables people in the West regard as "special" are common or garden here - how about ginger or vanilla fresh from the garden whereas Brussels sprouts or specific potato types are not.

Made this today and it was a total fail. I had to add a lot more milk. I think 3 cups flour would have worked better for me. It was very dense and didn’t seem fully baked and I let it bake a lot longer than you said.

I tried this out today, it was pretty good! It is kind of more like a dense biscuit on the inside (I might have over mixed?) and crunchy on the outside. Over all it hit the spot.
I did have to add a few extra slashes of milk to get it all to mix. I think next time I will add some spices to the dough to add flavor (rosemary and garlic).

hey! I myself just made the recipe, and it also tasted a bit like a biscuit. Did the rosemary and garlic go well? I am thinking of mixing in cheese as well

sydney rogers the rosemary and powdered garlic and shredded cheddar was pretty good! More dense, but better flavor
