That was my dream job 😢😢 3 12 hour shifts then off 4 days have always sounded so amazing compared to 5-6 12 hr shifts and only 1-2 days off, that I use to do at my old job at a shelter for minor unaccompanied children. I always say maybe I could go back to school and finish who knows 🙏
I love your videos! I have always wanted to be a nurse and work in the labor and delivery unit. I am finishing my degree right now then I will be going to nursing school,(hopefully.) I just had my son 2 months ago and the nurses truly helped me SO much and had such a huge, positive impact on me. I appreciate everything you and all the nurses do! Thank you and God bless you!❤️❤️
Hey Amie! Awww this is such a great comment. I'm so happy to hear that a nurse made a huge impact on you. Us baby nurses are a different breed of people and have a special heart for babies and their families. I would love to hear about your journey if you do end up going to nursing school and I wish you the best of luck 😊 Also enjoy the little one! They grow so fast. I have a baby sister who is almost 10 months..
I'm a midwife in Australia and we don't even have a job description like this. Sadly. You as the primary midwife have to do the birth (unless the doctors need to intervene for fetal distress/lack of progress etc). Then when the baby is crowning you get the mother's support person to press the call bell and then a second midwife will come in to receive the baby. They do the apgars and stimulate the baby. If you're lucky they'll also do the first set of obs and help the support person cut the cord. Then they leave and all of the other things that you described have to then be done by the primary midwife while looking after the mum as well. Such as attaching for breastfeeding and baby's sugars, weight, injections and all of that. All within 2-3 hours before both mum and baby are moved to the postnatal ward. It would be so good to have someone to look after the baby while you get all of the stuff done that you need to get done because it's a lot. Just interesting to compare the two countries, loved the informative video
I’ve been a nurse for 10 years and I am fixing to start my new job as a nightshift nursery nurse. I throughly enjoyed your video and I look forward to watching more content from you on nursery nursing. ❤️
Hi Renee! I’m so happy to hear you will be working in the nursery. Congratulations on the new job. It is a very different world from what I experienced in clinical, but I LOVE IT! I hope you enjoy every moment working with the little ones ☺️ Keep me updated for sure on how your experience is going.
I am in nursing school and my just got told that my first preceptor is a nursery nurse!! It has always been my dream and I am GIDDY!! I loved watching this video to give me some insight into what I'll be learning/doing soon. Thank you!
Thank you so much for providing all these details I am a nursery/postpartum nurse. I am not in the role of catching babies or transitioning newborns but in the future I might. I love the details its helps understanding this role.
Hey Nancy 😄 I do plan on making a newborn assessment video. I need to buy the supplies first before I can film this video though, but I will be filming one in the future.
Thank you for the video! I did not know about this position and I am so happy that I came across it! Thank you for opening my eyes to a new position that I could see myself in!
Hi Kristen, can you do an in depth newborn assessment? Also what tips do you have for trying to listen to the RR and HR on a baby that's crying non stop. Thanks.
Hey We're Snuggle Buddies Club Friends I Have That Cup And Work With Patient Care and Environmental Services In A Hospital. Just Had My Second Grandson Yesterday Too So Thank You And Others For Caring For New Life. ❤
Question! What is the difference between a mother baby unit like you described, vs. a hospital with a nursery? I’m interested in switching over to nursery, and when I interviewed they told me the ratio was 1:6. I’m just curious as to what the difference was as far as responsibilities and whether those nurses go to births too
Is a newborn nurse a position you can have as an RN? Thank you for your videos! I’m thinking about going into nursing and discovering this is a position is so exciting. It really makes me want to pursue it.
Wow 😯 how do you get all of these really important things for 3-5 babies… do u have like another nurse helping you finish all of your tasks. I would love to get into the NICU once i bridge over for my BSN. I just think i would get a better feeling at the end of my shift as opposed to med surg where Iam currently working now.
I just spilled all my water in it hahaha it is currently drying. I had to use over the shoulder bag this weekend and I didn't realize how much I would miss my backpack.
Hi, does the hospital train you for all of this because as new grad nurse you learn so many things coming out of school and do not get to practice it. Also how long did it take you to feel comfortable with what you are doing?
Honestly this is a HIGHLY COVETED position, so getting this job right out of school is EXTREMELY unlikely. You would need to work in labor and delivery, postpartum, or a NICU/SCN setting to eventually graduate to this job when one opens, and getting into those areas as a new grad is pretty tough, I am not saying it can't be done, but it isn't easy. It took me 13 years in my area to get into maternal child health., I do work in a saturated area, but still....
I like your matching bags. But girl i be so late all the time i just take a pen, water bottle stethoscope, badge and my brain. Anything else gonna weigh me down on the way up.😂😂😂😂😂😂

AWWWWW as a fellow transition nursery nurse this is such an excellent summation of the job! Thank you so much for the content and nice to meet you!

Usually there is a nursing assistant that helps with smaller task to help the nurse on the unit.. like there bottles etc.
