I’m a 71 year old dewd that was in three garage bands around the neighborhoods and all played Doors covers, Windwood, Clapton, Animals, Zeppelin, …so much great music written by the artists not some Pop-top chart fakers. 50 years later still groovin. Play this at my funeral.
The year is 1971 and I invited some friends over to my house for some poker and underage drinking. My cousin Steve (16yo) is the first one to pass out in my basement. After some time passed Riders on the Storm starts playing on the record player and Steve gets up off the floor and says "I gotta walk home in the storm?" He lived five doors down from my house. I miss the 60's and 70's !!!!!!!!!!!
Saw the Doors in ate June 1967, a week or so after high School graduation. We were familiar we the album. But the live show was un-freakin'-believable. Little did I know that it was part of the lure that got me into music as a living. Still play out. The musicians were fantastic. Blues, Jazz and rock all in one song. Killer!
I am from Bangladesh. I think no band has come yet like Doors in the world music history. Along with Jim, their Drumers, key boardist all are playing are damn genious. Rare combination.
Hello, music is timeless, I were also starting to listening to the doors when I was 25jears..now iam 37j. And still enjoy the doors but also black sabbath, deep purple, the stones, led zeppelin.. And and. Love the 60s and 70s. Keep on rockin, don't let you to tell you what you have to do or which music you have to hear in your age, just enjoy, and do your own thinks if it makes you happy🤗✌️☮️🎶🤘🎵🏵️😊
I will never forget seeing The Doors at Madison Square Garden. I had just been discharged from the army. They were preceded by The Chamber's Brothers who were a fantastic show in themselves. Then came Morrison and the band. They lighted up that Manhattan skyline like fire on the mountain.
Beautiful song. Jim Morrison was one of the best vocalists ever. His posters were pretty amazing too. My husband and I saw the film version of his life many years ago, and he most certainly had some strange visions and opinions. Didn't matter in the 70's and doesn't matter now. I still love the Doors and their music. I "loved him madly".
On the section that's "too long" the interplay between the electric organ and the guitar is superb. I've always been amazed with the definite atmosphere this song creates. The best time to hear this is when you're out driving at night in the rain and it unexpectedly comes on the radio. it's that feeling I love.Like being alone on a light aircraft, flying through a thunderstorm. Perfect isolation. (here behind my wall) lol
It’s 1970. We get to go to the the felt forum in New York City and Jim sings all night until 4 am . We are among about 50 people left in the audience lining the stage. Jim is amazing. We get evicted from our house the next day . Mother’s Day.
That beautiful moment when you just clicked this song and feel all the goosebumps at once even before this song starts. My friend, this is one of the reason I thank internet.
It reminds me of the good old days. Summer barbecues at the lake. Filled me with wonder and yearning to wander and be curious. At the same time, it filled my 'gut' with caution, a light sense of dread, a warning about trusting strangers. It brought visions of my future, gave me an awareness, a sneak-peek, a life-long yearning for my soulmate. I almost feel the same when I hear it. This time it brings up the greatness of my childhood, and dread for the future. What a song!
1971 was one year before I was born, however my story begins in 1991 when I saw the Doors movie and started to listen to their music, Olean NY is home of St. Bonaventure University and the Bonnie's basketball team! I was a senior in high school and I got word that John Densmore was coming to promote his book Riders On The Storm it was an amazing night listening to his stories and he even did some drumming, and I got his autograph! I'll never forget it! 😎👍
I can't even believe you would say "this part is too long". That song is sacred, you don't mess with the classics that part is far out and gets me every time.
Fuck off, I'll correct whoever I want to…besides; you are being a huge hypocrite…."I'm gonna complain about YOU complaining" WTF... are you dense? Writing this tune is "to long" is bad spelling AND a super dopey comment.
I remember coming out of the surf at Bondi Beach many years ago just as this started playing over the loudspeakers, the thunder merging with the sound of the waves... a perfect moment in time!
Not sure if most people know this, but Jim wrote the part “there’s a killer on the road, his brain is squirming like a toad, take a long holiday, let your children play, if you give this man a ride, sweet memory will die, killer on the road”based on a young man Billy Cook who hitchhiked from Missouri to California back in the 50s and killed a young family of 5 with 3 young children ages 2, 5 and 7. And the video or movie based of this song, Jim acted as the hitchhiker
Just a kid, not even half of of ten, this tune gets added to our family run drive -in restaurant's juke box. How very cool it is the intro, recall as trickling rain, . .perfect🌹☀️
It's just a honor to be a long time Doors fan for over twenty years since I was in the 10th grade when I was in high school and now I'm going to celebrate my anniversary of listening to the Doors real soon as I can get the chance to do it right
Oh gosh I love this gem of a song! Jims voice and lyrics are deep a.f and the moody atmosphere created is so cruisy and perfect! the genius use of the real storm and rain sounds in the background were such a great idea and sound so effective and the sound is so ahead of it's time! But to be honest, I mainly came for the treasure that is Ray Manzarek's input - such talent, his two hands playing both a bass line (Yep, The Doors didn't have/need a bass player) and that iconic, beautifully melodic solo always will BLOW MY MIND to pieces!!
Fell in love with this song ever since I heard it during my childhood, in the early 2000s... The Snoop Dogg version.. from NFSU2. Dug up the original immediately and fell in love..
GREAT JOB ON SOUND AND LYRICS. INTO THIS WORLD WE ARE THROWN. REST IN PEACE, JIM, RAY, and PAM. MUCH LOVE AND APPRECIATION. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND TAKE CARE. THANKS FOR SHARING.
I dedicate this song to my grandpa who passed away from stage 4 colon cancer! This was his favorite song I was always hoping we could go on a road trip with this song playing before he passed.
The Lyrics go so much deeper than people think. For starters, "Riders on the Storm" is "humanity" (all of us)...continue digging (HINT: think never underestimate or take a blind eye from the Devil, and the importance of the rule of the woman to keep popping out babies) Jim Morrison back then was warning us about the threat of Feminism if the Man turns the blind eye.
Its not "actor out alone", which makes no sense at all! It is actually "actor out on loan". This has meaning! "An Actor out on loan” is a metaphor for powerlessness. It’s an old theater and movie term, dating back to the days of the studio system, when many contract actors had no control over their own careers, and studio officials could hire them out at a whim to other studios for parts that could be destructive of their own careers."
I can get the On Loan, but actor out alone means,,, the actor out on stage doing a solo monologue which is what jim did every show with no back up singers, He didn't have auto tune to hide behind,, the funniest thing is Jim telling the cops in florida on stage that they suck for staying in florida and then he is surprised they arrest him
Hilariously enough, I used to play Need for Speed: Underground 2 a good 11 years ago, which is were I first heard this song or for a matter of fact any Doors song. 11 years later here I am and The Doors are one of my favorite bands, and it all started from that one game!
Nobody said it wasnt "a long part", they said it was too long, which, if youre a true Doors fan, and understand the nuances and messages of their music, as well as the dynamics of the song, and the live performance of it, you would get my point.

***** You don't have to be a "true Doors fan", you just have to be a fan of great music. And everything here is perfect.
Agreed, but disagreed... You don't actually need to be a fan of Doors' to know and understand the trip it is, not only Riders On The Storm, but all the "too long" Doors music... It's just perfect, no matter if you are a fan or not Just sayin'
This song reminds me of my dad. When he was young he used to take his MZ motorcycle and he was heading out of the house in 3.00 in the morning. That's the way I wanna live my life.
My condolences to you. I lost my best friend in a car accident 24 years ago and we drove around listening to the Doors and all of the amazing great bands from the 60’s and 70’s
Well it doesn't matter how a young person came here or an old one,but that we are all here listening to "The Doors" a legendary band for the young and a childhood band for old resembling their past.
this one's for my uncle in memory of a badass uncle I never got to meet but he apparently loved the doors. This one's for the good ole days rest in peace uncle Earl
fantastic??? first of all it is way too fast (the original track lasts more than 7 minutes) and the lyrics are wrong! It is "an actor OUT ON LOAN" and "sweet FAMILY will die"...
This is a classic rock song, amazing, beautiful song. Than if you read the description, "If you like dubstep, check this out." I'm not making fun of the guy, but seriously, they're two completely different genres.
I used to have a night shift work in Panera bread and I use to play this song while driving and drinking hot green tea with cloves and cinnamon sticks and honey.. what was strange though is that this song use to make me happy and sad at the same time...! Maybe because it makes me remember my parents and my origin...
A song that, reminds me of the past, people I've met, lives I've lived, roads I've walked, paths I've chosen, mistakes I've made, roots, the person I was, fragments I have forgotten of the person I still am, makes me wonder that I'm still breathing, makes me longing.
As a 22 year old man, I listen to a WIDE variety of music, but I think I might branch out more into this kind of music, Jazz? Blues? I dont know but this is awesome
I am amazed by the beautiful mastery we showed back then, gorgeous. I am 61 and was hypnotized by the music selection back then. Best music EVER!!!!!! And I mean EVER, nothing like it. Actually Ray Manzarek played a Vox Continental organ.
Great bass line, great guitar work, great keyboard work, great drumming, great vocals from a great band
The bass was played on the keyboard. The Doors never had a bassist apart from a few in the studio
