    Thanks! I've had an MC 3.1 on order since I first saw them. Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks mine will show up. I have a Drawmer MC2.1 which is sonically excellent even though it was missing features I had in my Dangerous Monitor ST system (which was very good). You're right - transient response is outstanding. The features on the 3.1 are quite advanced and complete.

    Cool stuff, really. I'm using custom design one for this purposes, analog part is good, but knobs are cheap in mine. Also I miss those low/mid/highs/mid/side switches so much. Have to do it in plugins.

  • @gavmurray7398

    i guess the option to run all speaker outs at once allows for 5.1 which is pretty cool. putting some crash ab switches on out puts 3,4,5,6, would allow to have 3 sets of stereo monitors, hit the crashes then you could be in 5.1 mode.. pretty cool

    I'm sold! Thanks to this video now I know all the things I can do with it that I hadn't thought. My only concern is; I'm already using all of my analogue outs of my interface so for monitoring I would need the AES/SPDIF in of the MC3, Hve you heard how good is the D/A converter in it??

    The mix controls sets this apart big time.
    I'm looking at the smaller DMC3 , but that is missing the low. mid and high.
    I think I would really need that.
    I feel like it can give the mix cube effect on the more precise speakers as a extra option of monitoring that I know will defiantly be helpful... then the high and low obviously does not go a miss

Also, I read some reviews that said there was a hiss when you pushed it, and they also said that the headphones have interference. And I ask you if you had that problem when using the headphone outs?

    I own a dangerous dbox as my main monitor controller.. and I also own a HEDD192 and the apollo 8...
    I always thought that Avocet the best option for monitoring at maximum quality. Mostly because it has a top DA inside (recently upgrated to even better converter, quantum) my desired gear for monitoring.
    BUT
    Crane son offers and update option to upgrade hedd's DA to the same one included in avocet.
    So, it supposed that if I upgrade my unit, the new DA should sound as Solaris or avocet (They are sharing the quantum processor)
    So, if I use hedd's analog output (it's the analog version from the digital print)..for monitoring, I have the first key point (DA) covered with top quality.
    But man... I'm following you since a lot of time ago, and I trust on you completely. You have help us a lot sharing your time and experience. The truth, and just the truth.., facts, no marketing campaigns...
    So I'm seriously considering the new dreamer mc3.1.
    In the analog domain, it has so many and really really useful and unique features (most of them are not available in avocet) PLUS everything I read about mc3.1 analog quality is top..active and clean from you...
    But
    Once you have the analog signal for monitoring....I'm not sure if avocet will beat this alternative in the analog domain including all the features..
    What do you think?
    Thanks

    • @Hessencemusic
      @Hessencemusic 7 років тому

      Thanks for the answer.. My feeling is that ..base on workflow.. Mc3.1 wins.. But, do you think that in terms of sound quality (the analog path), will be so much difference? BTW..In gearslutz there is a thread where I receive an oposite opinion about quality.. www.gearslutz.com/board/12477749-post932.html

    Hey, nice review, now I need this!!
    I have a question. For example, if I have 3 active pairs of monitors, should I buy an audio interface and this, or I need just this MC 3.1? Or it can be somehow connected ( but what I will gain if I have both?) I'm trying to understand all this. This MC has almost everything that an audio interface has.
    I was checking and considering a UAD apollo audio interface for monitors (It cant have 3 pairs of monitors) with SPL Goldmike Mk2 Premium for mics and instruments before this video, now I'm confused. Thanks
    Btw, after using for 4 years, do you still advising this monitor controller?

    What are you using for your DA? In your recent studio tour video, we heard that you were using the Dangerous Convert 2 even though we couldn't see it. Are you using the AES and running the Line output to your mastering chain? Have you upgraded your monitor control since this video? I don't see this on your desk in the mixing position. How do you adjust levels? Is it set up with the Behringer controller?

    Shit, I'm glad that I found this. I never saw this video yet. David, are you still using this controller? I ALSO am using the Presonus Central Station STILL (for about 12-15 years). Looking for a worth-while upgrade. I have the same issues as you were having with the Central Station (I always have). The sound shifts from left or right at low levels. Drives me crazy. I know that my sound is being degraded as well (slightly, but still there). It's time for a change. You still recommend this controller being the way to go? I love the Mix-Check functions. I've been dreaming of being able to solo out or drop bands to fix issues in my mix. Obviously, sound quality is important too. Is this translating properly for still? I don't want anymore issues tacked on!! Lol. Looking forward to your reply. Thanks man! :-)

    David, you’ve taught me SO much over the years. Thank you. If I have 3 pairs of monitors, 2 subwoofers, and 1 mono auratone (I know, overkill) can I still use this monitor controller? Or would I need a controller with more outputs, like the 2400 audio imperium 2U?

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  2 роки тому

      You're short of a sub and the one auratone, altho' you can connect that one to a hp out or something, you're still short a sub. You can have 3 pairs and a sub that you can share with each pair (on/off) with this, but the matrix on board is priceless and beats any other controller, hence I use this one

    Thanks David for another great review. I was quite impressed about this unit! As you are using 2-bus processing, at the end you will be creating a "digital print" of the 2-bus analog stem. I've was told lot of times that we should be monitoring not the analog print, but the converted digital print.., because the result of the AD the sound could be different from the analog version. Are you the digital input of the drawmer? what´s the quality of that converter?(I couldn´t finde any useful info about that).

    • @Hessencemusic
      @Hessencemusic 7 років тому

      mmm..So, you have all your analog gear directly connected to your 48 i/o within protools ? You are not summing in the analog domain? So when you want to do 2-bus , I asume you are using external patching between your 2-bus processing units , aren´t you? Then, how do you monitor your final digital print after that 2-bus processing? using another i/o from daw to the monitor using analog outputs (that'd include another audio convertion-DA)? or are you using a digital output from DAW to MC3.1 digital in?

    • @Hessencemusic
      @Hessencemusic 7 років тому

      thank you david for sharing that with me.. Now I understand it. :)
      I though that you were using analog summing units to have more headroom. I pretty sure, you have tested it...is there any audio degradation for using analog processing I/O from DAW (as there is a DA-AD every time you do it)? what patchbay are you using to ensure 0% audio degradation between all top class units & cabling?

    • @Hessencemusic
      @Hessencemusic 7 років тому +1

      thank you for your time a patience David. May be in the future you could make a video about your converters and I/O..or when analog summing became "a myth" ... Every single video you've uploaded contains lot of learnings :)

    Just a short comment on your impression of a passive monitoring controller. If the said monitor controller is truly a passive design (pure resistance with very little capacitance or inductance in the path which is physically impossible to get rid of) then it is not possible for the circuit to make any changes to the signal passing through it apart from attenuating its amplitude. opamps with slow slew rate or misplaced capacitors will degrade the transients of an incoming signal but they are not found in passive designs. Therefore it is most likely that the monitor controller that you were using before was not a truly passive design or simply the circuit wasn't well designed. Try out coleman audio's product sometime if you can, then you will understand what a well designed passive monitor controller is capable of.
    Anyways, ignore what I've said as it's just an electrical engineering major mumbling to himself trying to justify his choice for using a passive monitor controller.
