I only need to change ttL when using a router with nighthawk????? Or when using a phone sim period?
@@tyressy01 any device you connect to your m1 will be seen as using hotspot data unless the TTL settings mask the data usage
@@profitgee1 thanks so much love the content
@@profitgee1 the plan that I choose has to have hotspot data?
@@tyressy01 ideally it should have unlimited hotspot data then there would be no need to change TTL settings
Fantástico video , very Happy fron Spain, and you experience of LTE, thanks.
Great video thanks for the info , I love the way you break things down Vital Information you're the only one I found that does this thank you 👍
I’m about 10 days from closing on a rural parcel. You’ve become part of my research, thank you for your time.
You're very welcome!
Very informative ...
These are great videos. Thank you for breaking it down so much, especially for someone like me who doesn’t know much about how all this works.
Educating myself to put a modem in my camper for traveling before I retire so I can watch Netflix and my girlfriend can remotely work.
I have 2 directional antennas but I’m not sure I have them angle the right way at 45•degree angle. I also use T-Mobile by Metro. Should I get actually T-Mobile or should I activate this visible SIM card that I have. But I know these sub carriers don’t get priority 4GLTE speeds. These a few so get like 50mbps but i think I need a stronger antenna like the Parabolic Antenna with the 10miles gain I know the like 5 antennas near me and Verizion I think is the closest buy I am surrounded by trees. And John Barth video are really good. He explained a lot. But I seen you build that router so I’m like I could just build one and get the parabolic antenna and use the 7x carrier agrr. I feel like I’m so close to having the speeds I need out here.
If you have towers close (within 2-3 miles ) you don’t need a parabolic antenna and the 7x carrier Aggregation is only useful if you have multiple towers/bands to take advantage of ..in other words don’t spend a lot of $ on your setup a simple cat 12 modem will do the trick 50Mbs down is not bad at all. If you use the visible sim I would go with the mofi because it’s the only device I know for sure that can bypass the 5Mb bandwidth cap visible has and yes I would go directly with T-Mobile rather than Metro and see if their home LTE is available in your area it’s $50/month for unlimited data. I’m excited for you guys and can’t wait to see the progress on your homestead! Godspeed
I've been using Cyberonics Fixed Wireless for a little over a year.
Not all has been smooth without a lot of reading and troubleshooting on my end.
As of 3 days ago I finally have it running excellent!
Without going into it all, I will just tell you what I have for my setup that works well in my trailer out in the middle of the woods.
2 Yagi Antennas setup in Cross-Polarization (Antennas mirror each other at 45 degrees).
1 Antenna runs straight to the modem via LMR400 cable.
1 Antenna runs into a Wilson Pro iOT 5 band Booster via LMR400 cable, and then into the modem.
Since getting this setup where it is I average 25Mb down, and 6Mb up.
My Signal Strength averages -100dBm and my Signal Quality averages -8
When playing Guild Wars 2 (WvW) I average 90ms ping
When playing COD MW my ping averages 70ms ping
It's great to have a stable connection to game on again!
Good luck to all those out there in rural areas that want good internet!
Thanks Man ! That's quite a setup you have!
@@profitgee1 Thanks. No thanks to my isp that gave me the original router and yagi with no other information about fixed wireless and the struggles. lol

Very well explained. Thanks!
I have ZBT WG3526 with EP06 Modem and Unlimted LTE from NoLimitData (T-Moblie) cost sim card $10.00 And $100.00 monthly. I have upgrade the router firmware to Rooter Firmware and presently getting Avg DL 40+ and UL 7-14.
You should look at some cradlepoint gear. I have used them for public wifi on busses and they get great speeds.
Will do!
Thanks for the great info. Just to add, another UA-camr has discovered that if you use a MOFI router with an unlimited data plan, there is a setting available, set this way by default I believe, called ISP TTL. If this is set to a value of 65, it makes the carrier think that all data coming in and out of the MOFI is streaming data only and not hotspot data. Good for people using this as their primary home internet source.
@Cosmic Lawnmower Thanks for the info. TTL settings are good to “hide” hotspot data but also keep in mind these carriers can also detect that the SIM card is not in a phone and in a MOFI by it’s imei # and completely stop the service all together for violating the terms of service.
Nice house G
On visible you can get a travel router and it will allow you to use more than one device at a time
@Jason Huey you are correct! You can also put an activated visible sim in a Mofi or nighthawk M1 or other cell routers change the apn and use it to connect with multiple devices
@@profitgee1 I got a 4g router being sent now. It's not the mofi or Netgear but I'm going to see if it works.
@@jasonhuey8524 I hope it's not a kuwfi. I had a bad experience with that one. Good Luck!
@@profitgee1 this is the one I ordered. In the comments they said it will work for Verizon so I'm hoping it will work for visible. If not I will send it back..

OKAY LTE internet seekers do I have a ton of info for you! First off, great video it gets the key turned for a lot of people. Second, there are a couple of other options that aren't pushed to the front I can discuss. As far as the router choice, you aren't necessarily limited to just a MoFi or a netgear device. YOU CAN BUILD one! I am currently running a WG3526 router with a Quectel EM20 modem inside of it. It's a category 20 modem so it supports 4x4 MIMO (4 antennas) unlike any of the routers here! It costed me about $400 (just $100 more then the Mofi) and has WAY better speeds and waaaay more CA options. (Also has band 66) I use 4 Wilson Directional antennas vs the traditional 2. It basically doubled the speeds my mofi would traditionally get so I am happy with it! I built 2 identical custom brackets (each hold 2 antennas) to allow me to fit all 4 on a old dish network antenna mast laying in the garage. Just with band 2 on AT&T, I see speeds that average 70-80 mbps and can go as high as 100mbps! That's without any carrier aggregation. My plan is only $20 a month and I keep a T-Mobile plan in another device for redundancy in case something were to go wrong with my AT&T plan! The T-Mobile plan is through a reseller called Traveldata.page (Google it to see it for yourself!
You are probably wondering where I got all my information to achieve such an accomplishment and I really had a lot of help with a group called LTEhacks. They have a facebook group and an online forum. They also have a store in the center of it all that offers all the products you need to get going and make a bang for buck set-up that is almost always cheaper then getting things from other sites online! The group is full of others like myself who do with all the time and are willing to help you get up and going and even troubleshoot any problems you are having! Feel free to come by and learn some stuff and get yourself a working LTE internet solution!
This stuff can be a bit overwhelming at first, but you can save money and learn a lot if you do the research first! I personally will help anyone I can from here (and especially the facebook page) to get you guys some internet that works properly for your home! SHOUTOUT to bERRy gOOd jUICe for making this calm and informative video! I wish I had seen it when I started!
@Steve Thanks for the info LTEfix.com is temporarily not taking orders until they build their inventory back up but Jim and all the others @LTEfix/ hacks will definitely help anyone that wants to build their own device I built one as well and will post. Video soon.
Gonna join that fb pg thanks for all the info. 👍
@Ben Lewis Join the LTE Hacks group on Facebook. It will come up there....regularly.
Ah... a í beautifull your home
Thank you!
Great video!! You are so to the point instead of having a lot of garbage in there. My brother lives in a very remote area northwest of Poolville, Texas. I am trying to find the right setup so he can get a better cell signal. He is currently running a hotspot on a Samsung Galaxy S7 and he has terrible signal strength. So.....regarding the sim card in the present Samsung he is using for a hotspot, I cannot just take that card out and put it in a cellular router like the Nighthawk or Mofi right? Thanks so much.
He may be able to switch the sim from the phone ...it depends on the data limit on the hotspot data and if he uses a mofi , the TTL settings, if he uses the nighthawk he will need to attach a router with TTL settings. Good Luck to your brother!
@bERRy gOOd jUICe
I enjoyed your video. I am trying to plan for Internet service for my rural business in a barn and home that we are building in Montana in Spring 2021. We are in a rural area where CenturyLink DSL is the best option, then I saw your video. We are about 14 miles to the nearest cell tower. If I want to install a Verizon wireless service as a hotspot for Internet do I need to install one of those antennas on top of the roof our barn and house that you showed in early time stamp of your video?
@Geri Sunderlin 1st Thank you for watching! And 2nd yes at 14 miles away you will definitely need external antennas there are several videos on other channels to assist you with purchase and setup also keep in mind Starlink may be a viable option for you by that time before you invest money in a LTE setup , either way Good Luck!
Yo you saved my job with this one. Thank you
This is the best no nonsense (well maybe a little) description of my problem and solution. However, I am 11 miles from the tower.
@Joe B get a parabolic grid antenna and go check out John Barth's channel for a more detailed explanation of setting up LTE antennas but don't listen to his WiFi advice lol (half kidding)
Will changing imei number stop them from recognizing hotspot?
No it will only make them think the sim is in the device that has that imei # . You will need to use an attached router that has TTL settings to mask hotspot data usage.
@@profitgee1 can you recommend a router or how to see if it has ttl?
You encouraged me to do research and i bought a plan through a reseller and a lb 1120. Thanks for the info too.
Astr0e hope everything works well for you! keep me posted on your internet experience!
You have a nice house. Thank you for posting this very informative video, I am sure it will be a big help to a lot of people.
I got t mobile home lte internet, it's very good so far, I've gotten speeds of over 100 mbit, upload is usually 10 to 15.. 50$ unlimited!
@Ty Demaree I’ve heard good stories about T-Mobile’s home internet I wish it was available in my area!
@@profitgee1 also Verizon has lte home internet also.. same hardware, I'm hearing there will be a 5g version of tmobile later.. sounds promising, starlink is looking good in northern usa, check youtube for speed tests, and unboxing!
@@tdemaree I know about Verizon’s LTE home internet , of course they say it’s not available in my area also. it’s whatever for now I’m good until something better and cheaper comes along
I have nighthawk m1, AT&T satellite and a yagi antenna. Any recommendations to make it better I get max 2-3 bars nothing more. 3 mps download and under 1 mps upload. AT&T says it’s not available for internet in my area only Viasat internet. But it does work three bars max on the wireless hooked up to the yagi and 2 bars max on the m1 nite hawk. I can use any advice you have.
@Alecx Ciulla for LTE data you need 2 antennas to make use of MIMO and bars are not really helpful for indicating speed potential you need to know the signal strength and quality measured in decibels. Lastly I’ve found that for me the nighthawk doesn’t work well with external antennas ( I don’t like the TS9 connections ) the internal antennas are 4x4 MIMO and when you use the external antenna connections they turn the nighthawk into a 2x2 MIMO device. You may want to look into parabolic antennas and another device that has better external antenna connections
I really dont understand why the carriers dont offer a hotspot plan for folks with maybe a 1TB soft cap, then 3g speeds or something.. it could be expensive, like over $100.. im sure folks would jump on it.. obviously there is a demand that is not being met. The carriers could be making the profit, rather than the joe schmoes, reselling grandfathered plans.. also Godzilla would kick that apes butt! Haha.. great video!
Ty Demaree I agree. These carriers have an opportunity to capitalize on the fact that most regular ISPs refuse to run cable or fiber to rural areas so they would gain so much business by being the only decent internet option. I guess they can’t figure out a way to offer that type of data to only rural customers and don’t want to congest the urban areas with too many unlimited data plans
@@profitgee1 yes they are worried about getting bogged down, and dont want too much congested im sure..
Best info i found and but been on the topic for about 50hours now sadly!
Thanks ! I hope it helps you find an internet solution!
The tower is about maybe like one or two miles which antenna you recommend for a Nighthawk M1 do you think I need 50 ohm
Or which antennas you recommend for a mofi
I've been having issues recently and am wondering if anyone else has also. I live in SC and have the lb1120 with at&t. My internet keeps going down and now I'm only getting the red bar and no service. Anyone know what's going on?
A Man of Dust it’s At&t blocking the service with the LB1120 most likely ...what plan are you using ?...if it’s the data connect plan, then make sure you don’t use more than 3-400 GBs / month and even then if they detect the hotspot and not the tablet they can shut down your data
This is where I go to pay for service each month.
dcp2.att.com/OEPNDClient/pages/A-00T.jsp?version=0.532305034533211&version=0.7315389729567928
I usually use around 250gb per month. I've used this for almost 2 years now. Have any suggestions on what I've done wrong, or what I can use and not be throttled. I work from home and need this service
This month it says I've used 190gb. Makes no sense and this is the worst time for this to be happening
A Man of Dust I feel your pain bro, it’s the data connect plan , At&t has no compassion , really none of these companies do at a time like this , not one of them has stepped up with an unlimited data plan for hotspots or even bring back any of the unlimited plans they retired. Changing your device may or may not work if the sim is bricked then it won’t ...this happened to me last year when all I had was the lb1120 I did a hard reset the device and then set it to 3G got the SIM card to work again then reset it again and got back the LTE data. If you get a decent Verizon signal I’d recommend trying Visible or if not try an At&t reseller like Bix wireless ..good luck !
@@profitgee1 gave you had any dealings with Fire wifi? I'm wondering if they are truly unlimited like they claim. Also if I were to go the visible route, do I have to change my netgear lb1120 or can I just put the new sim in and be good to go?
Is there a decent reseller that does verizon? I've been reading about nomad but I'm really skeptical about their business practices.
Don't know of any that aren't over charging folks ATM you may want to try visible with a mofi for the Verizon network
Whats up Juice!! Great video and thanks so much man for these instructions! Quick Q, have you made a video of the best products to buy for Step 2 (Unlimited Data Sim Card) or could you please assist me in which products or places to look are? Are these unlimited data sim cards actually the same as the ones that come in a cell phone? I downloaded the Coverage LTE app by the mobile Internet Resource Center site you recommended and looks like AT&T, Verizon, & T-Mobile have the best coverage for my area.
I have a few questions for you
Clinton Roberts Great! If you have all three carriers in your area you have some options. You may have to dig deeper to see which of the 3 performs best for you and yes the SIM cards in phones are the same ones to use in a cell modem/ router ( though it may not be the same size so an adapter may be needed ) as far as unlimited data plans ...nowadays you have to be creative...Visible is a popular one right now but there aren’t many unlimited data plans for hotspots and routers right now this will change as plans come and go the trick is to grab one while it’s available and get grandfathered into it. I know people that added data only devices to their post paid plans then simply swapped the SIM card into a cell router that may work as well. Good luck hunting for a plan !
@@profitgee1 Oh yeah that explains a lot. I was just watching the Mobile Internet Resource Center you recommended and their latest video was all about mobil sims. They had Visible for unlimited @ 5 MBPS and mentioned a Verizon data only devices (not sure if that was the same thing, but had it at 15-30 GB High Speed Internet hotspot for $10-$15 a month. If I'm trying to make my set up specifically for work (which is all done online) 1) how fast does the data go in the visible or is that up to me, just depends on how much I want to pay for, and 2) do you currently have visible, wouldn't 5 mpbs not be very fast?
@@profitgee1 So if I were to purchase a plan through visible, which one do I choose exactly to put into the MOFI4500 or NetGear, so I don't have to by another smart phone? Or do I just choose the cheapest phone and make the plan unlimited data?
Clinton Roberts I have an unlimited prepaid Verizon hotspot plan that’s retired now. Some folks that use Visible have said they get more than 5Mbs down while others say that they are capped at 5 Mbs almost all that use Visible report higher pings than other Verizon plans ..to use Visible you need a compatible phone to activate their SIM card with service its $40 / month ($25/month with a party of 4)
LB1120, AND M1 NIGHTHAWK.. TWO 34.99 PLANS.. AT&T. Waiting for Starlink...i also have dsl, 6mbps/1 up frontier..
@Ty Demaree yeah I want to check out starlink when it becomes available too ...still a little skeptical because of how weather will affect service . That’s pretty good for DSL I never got above 3Mbs down and 1up
Fantastic video bro!
I just ordered a Nighthawk M1 with service through a reseller. Plan to use it as home internet plugged in without the battery. You mentioned a special plug to do that. That's the first I've heard if that. Can u offer some more info? Thanks!
Tim Rakes it’s just a 2Amp or 3Amp charging block usb C compatible or regular usb A if you use the cord that comes with then M1....The reseller may already include the upgraded power block with the M1 if not you can find it on amazon easily
@Ben Lewis I've been trying to do this and get 10 different ways to do it..I can't find the video. Can you send me the link?..do I have to have a static ip address? Like what exactly do I have to do specifically on the m1?
Hello I need help. I want to buy the netgear lb 1120 but I dont understand the sim card part. I want to use the Verizon plan but how do I get the sim card? When I go to the verizon store what to I tell them or how do I ask for it so I can get unlimited lte interner? Please help
Go to LTE Hacks on facebook... I just bought an LB1120 last night so I'm in the same boat. Also check out these options www.rvmobileinternet.com/gear/verizon-unlimited-rental-plans/
What did y'all wind up going with??
Also I live 10-15 miles from the closest tower
How did you get your prepaid to work? I’m getting (.98 MBps) on the MOFI. Need some help with setup.
@Charlie which model Mofi do you have ? The sim 4 or the Sim 7? From my experience if you have a regular pre paid voice and data sim card (meant for phone usage ) the data will be throttled once you put it in a cell modem. This happened for me when I tried a Verizon unlimited prepaid phone sim card in the Lb1120, Nighthawk M1 and the Mofi sim 4. However it worked in the Mofi SIM 7 model at LTE speeds. My prepaid sims are data only plans designed for hotspot or tablet usage not phones so they work in all my cell modems. SIM cards with post paid plans for phones seem to work at LTE speeds but may not give you unlimited data even if it's an unlimited plan because the data is tethered (TTL settings can be changed on the Mofi to make data appear like phone usage) but even then violation of TOS (terms of service) may get your plan canceled without warning. Its best to find a plan that allows for unlimited hotspot usage ie. Visible ( although I've heard the ping is higher with their service ) hope this helps Good Luck!
Do you have any recommendation regarding ubifi.net?
@@Charlie-sy3qg not really haven't heard anything bad about them but I think they require you to buy equipment (cell modem/ router) from them not sure if they will just send you an activated sim card for your Mofi ( hopefully they will ) but I honestly don't have enough info on them to either recommend or not recommend.
Wow, glad I came across your channel. I’ve been trying to dig up information for getting data in remote areas, and you answered a lot of questions that I haven’t found anywhere else. You explained important details most other people don’t mention. This equipment isn’t cheap, ordering the wrong item could be a very costly mistake. I just started watching but so far, awesome videos, thanks so much.
So far I’m most interested in the MOFI 4500. I like the SIM4 because it plays well with AT&T. The SIM7 has more bands as you mentioned, but apparently doesn’t work that well on AT&T. I wanted one device that has all bands, for all 3 carriers just to give me more options, but I guess that magical device doesn’t exist yet.
Stuart Stuart thank you & I’m glad the video helped .....check out my other videos I built a custom router that works with all carriers only band it’s missing is 71 but there are other modems you can use that have that band and it’s better than the mofi and cheaper depending on which modem you choose
I know this sounds like a dumb question, but after I get the sim card do I just call up the carrier to activate it?
Dexter Russell is not a dumb question. After you decide which carrier your gonna use you have to chose a plan. There are no current plans directly from carriers that let you get a SIM card and call to activate it without a phone that I know of ...the most popular plan right now is Visible (on the Verizon network) but you need a compatible phone to activate the sim then you can switch it into a cell router or you can use a reseller like Nomad for a data plan
@@profitgee1 thanks bro

You may have to give them 24-48 hrs to activate your sim card as far as I know they are still providing service but using resellers can have its risks
can you recommend/link a specific 2 amp charger for the Nighthawk please.
