- Hello Music Lovers, I do hope everyone is well! This episode is a fun one, I finally got myself a Gibson Les Paul! Its a Murphy Lab 58 and its fantastic! I wanted to tell you the story about why its taken me decades to finally get a Les Paul and share some tones and talk about a few of my favorite Les Paul players. thanks to Sweetwater for having such a sick array of lemon bursts to choose form in their inventory! Who doesn't like Bonamassa?!? The last time I saw him play, it was fire and tone from start to finish.
Anyway, beautiful guitar. I dig the chirp of a Gibson with both pickups engaged.

Just seen a couple of videos from this dude for the first time ever and already it’s very hard to not love this guy. Love his playing, tone and information
Two weeks ago i finally took the plunge and bought/traded towards a 2018 Historic R9 in honey lemon fade.
I have ZERO regrets about this guitar. Love the look, the neck, the tone of it , just everything about it is flawless.
I am sure there are ones that come out of the Custom shop that are not up to par but when you do finally find a
58-60 Les Paul re-issue that delivers the goods meaning that the guitar is everything you wanted it to be then all you can do is smile,
Oh and of course play a lot!

I just spent 750 USD on a 1978 Greco.
Fairly certain it doesn't come close to a ML but I can tell you I love it as much.

Andy- Congrats! I started playing on my older brothers Les Pauls when I was 8 years old. I moved out at 18 and primarily used Fenders for all of my gigging life. I'm 52 years old now and just bought my first LP a few weeks ago as a birthday gift. 50's Standard from Wildwood. Great instruments. After being such a Fender head my whole life, it's really a cool change of pace. I was almost laughing out loud at many of your intro riffs because they were the riffs I played when I first got it. Maybe the Les Paul is actually playing "us"?
That R8 of yours sounds magnificent! As talented as you are, it's a shame Joe B doesn't just gift you a real deal burst.

I’m in total agreement with you on what you like on an LP. Fat Neck, lemon, with a nice but not outrageous maple top.

I have a few les paul guitars I love them all... I finally decided to get a heritage custom h150 in dirty lemon burst & it's amazing....the headstock was always an issue for me but after you see it in person it's not bad at all

I am always amazed how some guitarists (not me) are able to play shred neck guitar and play a fat Les Paul a minute later without any disappointment or uncomfortable feeling in hand 😮!!!! Cheers from France

congrats! i have exact same lemon burst color but mines a historic makeovers from 10 years ago and ive bought and sold a lot of guitars since then but thats still my best playing guitar.
That lemon burst sounded pretty righteous. That would also be my choice. That slightly girthier 58 neck is right up my alley.
I just ordered a 2013 LP Traditional. It will be here in a dew days. Crossing my fingers hoping that it's a keeper. It has a 50s neck, '57 Classic p/u, and a FLAME top!!

You can spend a life time in search for the holy grail, looking, buying, selling just for the right Lester … You Sir have found it, might of taken you 20 years but man you’ve got it. Just the right amount of flame “in the right light” just like the originals and man l can hear the woodiness that tone is true vintage and finally that dark fret board “perfect” for a while the 2019 reissues had lighter rosewood fret boards c’mon that’s as bad as using automatic tuners like you said “l don’t like” ….. well done sending you warmest regards from Australia , Nick…

Nice sounding and looking Les Paul. As for your comments, I agree 100% about not needing to deal with the deep details of pickups and such. I've been playing for over 50 years and have learned many years ago, tone is produced by the player and his fingers. Great video, keep up the great work!
I also have a Murphy Lab R8 - best sounding and playing Les Paul I have ever owned (and I've had a bunch over the years).
Congrats Andy, I thought it was hilarious about the robot tuners as that is the second reason why I haven't owned one yet. Hope to get one as pretty as yours one day

Andy, better late than never, now you can take the Paul off yer bucket list Bro! {Al Dimeola} Lots of us had the same situation, just could not pay that kind of Moolah, back in the day, I even had to borrow my buddy's Hondo Les Paul, for gigs, How is that for down and out? Hey wait a minute, didn't Uncle Ben Eller [four eyes] just get a Black Custom? I smell endorsment cash! Anyway, you and Elenor have a sweet Honnymoon! By the way I just bought a knock off version lemon burst, sitting on my lap, trying to mod it up, never put truss rod cover back on, lets trade, LOL!! As usual you always knock it out of the park.

That dirty lemon burst is one of my favorite burst colors. Looks like a gold top from a distance :P Sounds great

I love the chunky neck. Even though I have medium sized hands, the chunky fits for me. Tone for days!
PS: When I was a kid I always wanted a 59' to say I couldn't afford one is an understatement lol. I also for years couldn't afford an R9. I've owned many Lesters throughout the years including a Jimmy Page signature that almost fell into my lap that the store was going out of business. Right place right time. Sadly, I had to sell it years ago for personal reasons. I could never find one like it. Fast forward, I was back in the market about a year ago and tried out R8, R9, and an R0. The R8 worked out best for me. So, its a Mick Taylor my other favorite Les Paul player. Question is: Is it as good as the Jimmy Page I used to own? no, it's better. No one can tell anyone anything when it comes to guitars. If it smells good, looks good, fells good, and most important sounds good? take her home with you period.
Congrats you’re like the opposite of me….my 1st guitar was a fake LP at age 7, then real LP custom in 7th grade….I bought my 1st tele at age 48. haha Love that 1st face melter run….rock on bro🤘

You bastard! 🤣 I quite literally had this *exact* LP in my cart, because it was the only 58 lemon with figuring. The other 3 were plain tops. Payday came, I was ready to checkout, and BAM - she was gone. Enjoy brother, looks and sounds damn great in your hands!

I love my gold top tone for days I found the classic way to play it is the easiest since it’s so back heavy.

Love that Les Paul tone but hate the weight. Getting thru 4 hour gigs 6 nights a week plum wore me out. Bought a mahogany/set neck tele with a Humbucker/SIngle coil switch with a little help from the pedals It was hard to hear the difference
Congratulations! I'm saving up for my first EVH Wolfgang. However, my Suhr Modern Plus is easily my favorite guitar I've ever played. I'd also like to have a Frank Marino Gibson SG. Maybe Gibson will make them some me day.
Dayuuum...at a loss of anything more intelligent to say. She's my dream for sure. I have the Tribute Les Paul, but that's just a glorified Studio. I want the real deal. This is it. Even the color is perfect. Either that or the lemon burst are my choices.
The best guitar sound I've heard in recent years was Uncle Ben's Saturdays with the Les Paul

What’s always been interesting to me is that most Les Paul players insist on playing their instrument overdriven…I’m pretty certain, that when the guitar was designed, then endorsed, by Les Paul, they we made to be played clean…right? Les and Mary Ford, didn’t have distortion pedals, or amps pushed into overdrive. Just something that crossed my mind, this week…
Dude you playing on that les Paul sounds fucking awesome. There’s just something about a les Paul that’s so good. I tried a strat for a few months it was a suhr actually. I loved how it felt to play but I just went for the les Paul every time because I preferred it so much more than the hss suhr. Maybe I could’ve meshed with it with a different pickup set, I don’t know. Nothing hits the spot for me like a les Paul though. Reckon I should try a tele?

I went to sweetwater's site and ALL the Murphy 58's are plain tops? not a one on there has any tiger striping or
flame pattern like yours at all? you got the only one?
I almost got one of the plain tops- I was soooo close to going that direction.

god damn it that playing was just ridiculously good, made me wanna quit the guitar and pick up painting or drawing. I got a little joy in my heart when you didn't quite play the Whole Lotta Love riff correctly, hahahahaha how miserable of me , dang!
