These intro jams are just getting to the point that people should just watch the videos just for the music even if they aren't guitar people. Great stuff guys!
Already the best quality tones you’ve ever achieved on UA-cam. And well played Captain - showing off some new scale licks in a very tasteful way. The Murphy Lab LPs aren’t bad either.
@@andertons the second one that Pete played - you pulled a face when he hit the first lick and I think I was making the same face with nice headphones cranked. I’ve had a Collector’s Choice for some years and I think these Murphy Labs are giving that series a run for their money (quite a lot of money as it turns out). My fave sounds from an LP are the middle position with both volumes rolled off a bit, or the bridge pup with the volume backed off a touch and tone rolled off as far as 4 or 5 (TM J. Bonamassa). You get the clarity of a clean note at the beginning with the warmth of the overdrive to fatten it up, almost like running the two sounds in parallel. And if you get a great rhythm sound with those settings, you are guaranteed a great lead tone to pop through the mix when you roll the volume back to 10. Really great video, and chapeau for the tones and playing, gents.
Wow that were some wonderful tones !! We all know that Pete is a monster player - but it must be stated that Lee has turned into such a tasteful player and toneformer through the last years. I call that a true Captain !! seriously motivating !!
@@AndrewPRoberts Absolutely. While it's been something of a meme, it's also awesome when a player has a signature lick that's instantly recognizable. Here's how you do it, fellas. Each check set aside about 5 to 10% of the check in a secret fund. It'll add up quicker than you think. Once you get close to the price you tell your woman that you're getting a great deal on one and that they're letting you put it in layaway. She'll have no problem with a couple of hundred in a layaway. She'll think you've matured because you're getting what you want without looking selfish by blowing a large chuck of money. She just won't know that you've been saving that large chuck for a little while. It'll still take a little while to get, but at least you'll get it. 🤷♂️
I think it makes a great point to have the blindfold tests, shows if they are consistent and that it is more that player that is inspired or not. The looks add in the “pick up” factor afterwards. Great vid guys!
I think it is really interesting to see, how Lee transforms when he demos a guitar. When someone is sitting next to him and observing while he is playing on his own, he seems self conscious and a little bit stiff in his playing style. Almost like he doesn’t know exactly what to play, and maybe he worries about what the other person is thinking about his playing. But as soon as he’s jamming with someone talented or playing on top of a good backing track, it looks like he’s forgetting about everyone else around him, and he suddenly looks so free and confident! And it impacts his playing a lot - he sounds extremely good and his technique is amazing, when he’s jamming with Pete or a backing track. I know the feeling from myself. When someone asks me to play something for them, I feel shy and self conscious. But as soon as nobody is around or when I’m in the zone, I can play much better and more confident. The Captain and Pete are extremely inspiring to watch/listen to, and Lee’s transformation is amazing and a grear motivation for many players out there. Myself included!
I tend to think a thick neck on a guitar makes me hold and fret differently which gives me a better tone- it forces me to be more deliberate. But then it must be different for everyone- if you like the feel then you’re going to play better.
What an intro!!! There’s something about the neck pickup on a Les Paul when it starts to compress and ever so slightly pushes the amp to breakup. My all time favourite tone 😊
I'm aged.. I have a 1966 Marshall JTM 45 that has been around the block and is still stock but is battered from a life on the road. It'll make a good template for a new aged Marshall...
Some guitars just have that mojo, whether it's the wood, or pickups or a combination of both. Some guitars just sing more than others and just sound great. I have a strat like that, just sounds amazing.
These guys should start making CD's or tracks with full Tabs as collectibles for all of us fans out here! Blues, Rock and Solo lessons for easy fun and quick learning.
Those guitars are amazing. The DP models just sound more open, with more note definition and clarity without being too pokey. I've got a 2017 Les Paul Classic HP coming in from the Gibson Demo Shop today, and if it sounds even half as good as those things, I'll be overjoyed! Hopefully one day I'll be able to get a custom shop. Maybe even the DP model if they keep making it!
Love your videos, that and coffee wakes me up every morning. A suggestion...if you are looking just for a tone difference, it may be better to have the playing done by one and the blindfold on the other to eliminate identifying the guitar by differences in necks, actions etc. Cheers from the US!
I do not know what you guys are going on about but that PLAINTOP is gorgeous! and the real ironic thing is that it is the closest to a 1858 standard since "flamed" 58's are not that common. I love a flame top as much as anyone but with 1958 Les Paul's i always visualize one like that plaintop one.
