Not necessarily sure it's fair to cast stones at the cliffhanger where no cliffhanger was intended (2 Docs, Five Docs). I saw them in American syndication this way and they were a bit unspectacular.
I dunno why, but the Colin Baker credits just immediately kill any form of tension. You could have the biggest, most earth-shattering thing happen... and then it's punctuated by that giant grinning face zooming backwards. And I god-damn LOVE it X'D
@Petrolosis (Adjusts glasses and adopts Dr Who nerd voice) Well, actually, the composer, Carey Blyton, was a great expert in medieval music and instruments and decided that the crumhorn would make a suitably alien and disconcerting sound to accompany 65 million year old reptiles. He was wrong. It still sounds like kazoo.
It must have been on the video release I only had it on dvd so I never saw those. I wish I had now those are priceless! 😂 the hold on! hold on! had me screaming
These are extra hilarious if you know the resolutions to them. For example, for the 3rd Doc cliffhanger at 4:05, the next episode opens with the Doctor immediately karate chopping the button out of the Master's hand. Crisis averted.
The first episode of The Mind Robber is a weird way to pad for time but that cliffhanger is actually great. TARDIS in pieces, Jamie and Zoe holding onto the console for dear life and the Doctor just spinning out into the void.
Well, what I’ve learnt today is that William Hartnell doesn’t like sweets. Patrick Troughton is his own worst enemy. Jon Pertwee is afraid of the floor. Tom Baker doesn’t like being torn apart. Peter Davison’s friends wouldn’t help him if he was drowning. Colin Baker can’t finish his sentences. And Sylvester McCoy is just hanging about.
In my opinion, the cliffhanger from the second episode of the mind robbers is the best one, for both the insane editing and the absurdity of the unicorn
Choosing episode 2 of Kinda, one of the best cliffhangers in years, over episode 1 of Kinda, which is a guy snarling at the camera with a silly voice, is odd.
Remembrance of the Daleks - this is a fantastic story but yeh i do think the part 3 cliffhanger is a bit odd and instead it should have ended with the Doctor looking shocked rather than having the character say that final line directly into the camera (also known as breaking the 4th wall) - also that shuttle landing sequence would have looked even more incredible if they had managed to do it on a night time filming allocation. For some weird reason most cliffhangers in Trial of a Timelord end with a close up of Colin's face - that's why the cliffhanger to part 9 is absolutely fantastic because it's completely different and literally shocking (for Officer Edwards)
Yeah, but it’s not really that immersion breaking given how many times we’ve seen the console moved outside the Tardis. It’s apparently pretty modular.
@@ClunkerSlimAlso, considering the first Doctor and second doctor had the same tardis And it was constantly changing shape and proportion We could just cannon plaster that with something being wrong with the artificial recaffiguration The real answer is the whole set is on Wheels Which makes me wanna hop on. I'll honestly say that the first cliffhanger was a decent one, though strange. The only good Pertwee cliffhanger I know of was one from Inferno. There's all this tension. 20 seconds until the supposed end of the world. And it literally is just the clock ticking until the time is up, and then the episode ends.
To put is as succinctly as possible: The Master (the guy on the other end of the phone), is in cahoots with the Nestine Consciousness, a being which can make anything made of plastic come alive and kill people. The cord of the phone the Doctor was using is made of plastic, so when the Master activated that signal, it made the phone cord come alive and try to strangle the Doctor.
Terror Of The Autons. The Nestines can control anything made of plastic. The Master fitted an extra long phone cord whilst disguised as a phone engineer. He then phoned the Doctor and activated the phone cord using the small device in his hand. The phone cord started strangling the Doctor.

Correction: The Two Doctors is a 6-part re-edit, not a 4-part re-edit. Soz.
The Five Doctors Is Part 1 In The 4 Part Re-Edit
In The Trial of a Time Lord where is that the episode where The Master keeps saying "Die Doctor die, just die" then laughs?
Not necessarily sure it's fair to cast stones at the cliffhanger where no cliffhanger was intended (2 Docs, Five Docs). I saw them in American syndication this way and they were a bit unspectacular.

Combined with the Trial of the Timelord cliffhangers and it's comedy gold. I love it.
The Silurians cliffhangers are fucking hilarious with both Jon's mildly disturbed face and smash cut to credits
The kazoo music 💀

@DayOldMeat Typical. I should have known that the president of the Carey Blyton's Crumhorn Appreciation Society would see my comment.
The blatantly-tacked-on cliffhangers inserted halfway through literally every Season 22 episode are unintentional comedic gold.

the best is the vengeance on Varos part 1 cliffhanger where it's just the Doctor and Peri saying Hello and it dramatically curs to credits.
It's like the writers couldn't work an actual cliffhanger in those episodes and were just like "oh f*ck it, go to credits".
These are extra hilarious if you know the resolutions to them. For example, for the 3rd Doc cliffhanger at 4:05, the next episode opens with the Doctor immediately karate chopping the button out of the Master's hand. Crisis averted.
A lot of Third Doctor cliffhangers are like that
i love the one that resolves with him casually saying "oh hello, are you a Silurian?" and offering a handshake. very Doctor
I cannot take the Silurians seriously with that bizzare music
Nor the sea devils…
Or warriors of the deep…
Feel like it’s something you’d hear in Monty Python or something
Car horn ass music 😭
@Keykhosrau It's a crumhorn. Medieval people listened to it
for pleasure.
The past truly was a different place.
The Face of Evil one there is actually terrifying.
The Krinoid hatcing was pretty frightening too in context.
Yeah, the Face of Evil cliffhanger might be the best in the series.
Absolutely, this one puts the wind up me to this very day. "WHO AM I? WHO AM I?"
It could be because Tom Baker's face was actually kind of terrifying.
pertwee era is so unmatchable because the stories do not really call for cliffhangers but they wedge them in every 20 minutes regardless lmao
0:49 Me at 3 AM, remembering something absolutely childish I did 5 years ago:

William Hartnell doesn’t like sweets.

1:37 I'm sorry, the WHAT?!
The TARDIS fell off a cliff and ended up in the middle of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade
It’s a cliffhanger for The Romans. In the next episode they have shenanigans in ancient Rome and Barbara and Ian get kidnapped by slave traders.
The tardis falling over got me 😂
Possibly the best compilation ever
I like the cliffhangers with the 70's radiophonic scream and overdubbed two way echo giving the familiar rising / falling bubbling effect.

1:47 when you can't find your car keys
Its quite scary how DR WHO influenced so many big time artists . I see from Ridley Scott James Cameron to Marvel comics
The Star Beast reminded me of how many of the British Invasion comic creators of the 80s got started in Doctor Who magazine.
Truly the doctor who cliff hangers of all time.

BBC Radiophonic Workshop features well in this compilation 👍
The biggest enemy of this show:end credit & theme music suddenly show up & play right after showing a character/ 2 or more characters is/are in danger
I was about to comment, but then the title music cut me off.
Colin Baker and Jon Pertwee were always done so dirty by cliffhangers 😂
