    Sir, I have installed Daikin AC and it's Model is DTKP50QRV16.
    It's cooling was irregular till yesterday for past few weeks(edit: cooling way below set temp or not cooling at all). It showed L5 error.
    But now the cooling is slightly back to normal as it takes upto half hour to cool the room at 22℃.
    But, now it's showing error of U2.
    Please help me figure out what is the likeliest problem with my AC.

    • @maracservices
      @maracservices  2 роки тому +2

      It sounds to me that your compressor was faulty and has now taken out the Inverter PCB. If the Compressor is faulty then it won’t cool the space and can show up as L5. However, if you are now getting a U2 fault, it sounds like the Inverter PCB has been damaged.
      So I would test the Inverter PCB with an inverter checker (I assume it’s faulty) and then test your Compressor with your multi meter (possibly faulty).
      If the condenser fan plugs into the inverter checker, replace that too. If not then just leave it.
      Good luck

    Is there any way to test a mechanically seized compressor?

    • @maracservices
      @maracservices  Рік тому

      No as there isn’t anything mechanically wrong with it but the Daikin unit will sense over current and cut out on a fault to protect itself.
      In the case of an L5 error. You can only test the compressor windings and the board output. Let the customer know that there’s a slight chance it might have a locked compressor but chances are low.

    Install the thermal paste like you would install it on your pc.
    The surface of the ipm chip & the heatsink should be cleaned properly using isopropyl. Then a tiny amount of high quality thermal paste like the pc thermal pastes from brands like noctua & coolermaster should be used. Do not use your fingers on them once the surface have been cleaned with isopropyl. Apply the paste & use a clean plastic bag or spreader that comes with the paste to evenly spread it out only on the copper surface. Same should be done for the other recrifiers & igbts of pfc.
    Adding too much thermal paste will reduce thermal conductivity & increase temperature of the parts.
    One more important thing everyone should get is a surge protector.
    I have 9 inverter units 2 of them are 11 year old hitachi models & not a single one of them had a failure other than rats chewing wires causing a short between the coms & mains & blowing up indoor pcb.
    I have 5 panasonic, 2 Hitachi & 2lg all inverter mini splits ranging from 18k to 24k btu models. The lg ones are less than a year old.

    Sir, this video pointed me the right direction so im leaving a comment so our fellow techs wont have to waste days googling like i did.
    Outdoor unit: RXN50 with L5 error
    A lot of people here asking how the pcb is tested in a possible overcurrent scenario. With a tester obviously, but i found this gentleman making one for nearly free and it works like charm:
    ua-cam.com/video/hgBsa_j86Qk/v-deo.html
    I brought this unit back from the dead last year. Some other machanics said they couldnt repair it because the discharge pipe was broken into the compressors head, took me an hour to solder it but managed to and it worked well until 2 weeks ago when the 4 way valve started acting funny, got stucked between modes and clogged the lines, it is possible that the unit worked half a day like that as i got home in the evening, Managed to free the valve by switching modes back and fort and worked well for like another week and then broke down with L5. I did suspect this outcome since it was rattling from day 1 however i wasnt sure if its the compressor and the pcb or just the compressor.
    Its now time to find a compressor and a 4 way valve, or at least a compressor. I might just gonna leave the 4 way valve out and make it heating mode only due to economical reasons.
    Keep up the good work and thank you for the informative contents!

    Hi Mitch thanks for the info you are providing! My 6 year old Daikin system (RXM QVMA) is showing L5 and not blowing cold since the 24 th December of last year. A Daikin installer confirmed my suspicion of a dead PCB board for a $200 call out fee. (didn't make it on the day it was booked in, wasted day off work). He did not use an Inverter checker, but confirmed the board was not sending a signal or power? to the compressor. He suggests to replace the Board and Fan. The Quote is $1998...
    I have confirmed the part nr (DAIKIN AIRCON OUTDOOR MAIN PCB-RXM60QVMA
    Part Number: 4016709
    $438.96)
    Is this an ok price? Hasn't been the best year so far. A smiley face will do.

    Hi mate, very interesting vid to see how you go about this. We've had three Daikin Alira X reverse cycle split system units installed. One big, 7kw one works perfectly. However, both 2.5kw units don't produce air flow when in heat mode and the fan outside doesn't spin when in heat mode (temperatures inside and out are within the operating range). After about 15 minutes the units show code L5. In cool mode, one of the 2.5kw units works perfectly, and the other one just blows air pretty much at outside temperature. Any ideas? We've put in a service request with Daikin, but I'm interested to know whether you have any theories on what could be causing it. It seems mad that there could be two identical PCB faults on two brand new outdoor units. Cheers!

    • @maracservices
      @maracservices  2 роки тому +1

      Hey mate, that’s very odd that you have two units that are both doing it. I’ve been a tech for 15 years and only came across this error code once (although after reading the comments it sounds fairly common). The unit that works perfectly in cooling will have a faulty Inverter PCB like in the video.
      The other unit that doesn’t produce cold air could potentially have a faulty compressor but most likely a faulty PCB as well. It’s a bit of a worry that two out of the three units you got installed have issues. For what it’s worth mate, the unit in the video has not missed a beat since replacing the PCB and it’s been a year so hopefully they get it sorted for you asap and that’s the end of it. Good luck!

      @@maracservices Thanks so much for that, really helpful to understand it. Yeah, can't get my head around the odds of that happening in two devices, on something internal (I E. It's not even like mishandling would cause that particular issue). I've been coming up with weird theories in my head, but they are all improbable! Daikin are meant to be all about the quality so it's pretty disappointing. I take a lot of comfort from your comment though that, once fixed, it should stay fixed! Thanks so much again

    • @maracservices

      Hey mate, I've got an Inverter checker.
      So basically, I disconnect the compressor terminals and plug the terminals into my inverter checker instead. Then when the system runs I can see if the PCB is sending a signal to the compressor or not. In this case it wasn't so I knew the PCB was dead. I also tested the compressor with my multimeter and megger but everything seemed fine.
      If you don't have an inverter checker, I'd put my money on that it would be the outdoor PCB without even looking at it. If the shaft on the fan motor looks rusted, I would definitely replace that as well. If it isn't rusty, then just replacing the outdoor board should be fine. Let me know how you go!

      @@maracservices hi mate,
      Thanks for replying. So on inspection I noticed the liquid line Schrader was faulty and letting refrigerant by. During this I also went and checked the Compressor pins and got 0.8 across each of them which meant it was fine. I then check the EEV’s on the ports which were connected to two indoor ducted units. Received 0.47 between red and each cable on the connector which meant it was electronically okay.
      I then recovered all the refrigerant knowing there was a leak on the liquid service port. 1/4 of refrigerant low. Changed the Schrader and pressure tested all fine no leaks.
      System evacuated and put the 2.4kg in that was factory charge however when I had the system running the indoor cooling temperature was very high on 1 indoor unit however the other was cooling okay.
      Further investigation and turned system into heating and working fine on both indoor units. Further visuals and could see frosting on the pipe work just before the EEV and high temperature on the other side of the line causing a pressure drop when it was In cooling I also only had 3.5 bar on suction. Very low.
      So suspected failed EEV however the internal mechanical part…. Let me know your thoughts.
      Thanks!

    • @maracservices
      @maracservices  3 роки тому

      @@taylorhewitt5621 No worries mate. What exactly are you working on? For example, is it a Multi Head System? Are the indoor units wall mounted splits or ducted units? The reason I'm asking is, you might need to add refrigerant to the base charge for each indoor unit. That info should be inside the condensing unit cover. If the compressor is running, thats a good sign because the L5 error code simply means there is excessive current pulled through the transistor module (at least you know the compressor isn't locked). If it has wall controllers you can look at the thermistors and see if there is 6K difference roughly over the indoor coils which indicate its running fine and gas charge is right. I normally just hook up my bluetooth daikin service checker to get these readings to be honest. Also if its a VRV, you'll need to add the correct refrigerant charge and then hold down the test button on the outdoor unit so the unit can calculate how much refrigerant is in the system and run the EEV's correctly. I'm interested to know what you come up with. I'd just make sure the system has the correct refrigerant and the EEV's are working fine then if it still happens, I'd replace the Inverter PCB.

      @@maracservices hi mate, good to hear from you, so it’s a Daikin 5 port 9kw Multi condenser. I have to systems connected to it. 2 x 5kw ducted units serving one room. I definitely have the correct charge as I weighed it in yesterday. I had to add some trim as it was only pre charged to 30m I was around 35m. We have spoke to daikin and they have also said what we have done is correct and that it sounds like a faulty EEV, which is the brazed connection on the line of flare ports and they will be sending a new outdoor unit. As mentioned in cooling set at 17° on the controllers one indoor unit was showing 11° coming off the grill. The other was sitting at 26° of the grill however in heating both heat great. Set at 30° I revive 50° of the grills. I was told that the units bypass the EEV in heating which would identify the EEV as the issue. I do not have a daikin service checker unfortunately however I just use my infrared to get that information or Bluetooth to the Madoka controllers. When you say about 6k difference is that between the liquid and suction pipes? Cheers mate 👌

    • @maracservices
      @maracservices  3 роки тому

      @@taylorhewitt5621 Yeah mate, 6K difference between the liquid line going into the evaporator coil and the suction line coming out of the evaporator coil. The VRV's have thermistors on the either side of the coil so you can see exactly what the temps are from the wall controller if you go into the daikin menu and go to thermistors section. Unfortunately the standard ducteds don't have thermistors on either side of the coil. I'm surprised that Daikin are sending you a completely new outdoor unit. That's way easier for you which is good!
