The story the woman is referring to at 5:00 is about a woman who ordered a Lyft to meet a man in a park that she had connected with on an escort-like dating service website. She was never seen again, and until the real killer was captured, the Lyft driver who dropped her off was suspect. That's why for something like rideshare, dashcams are incredibly important. This video was shot with an Vantrue N2 Pro Dashcam (and if you use the code "Eddie17" at www.vantrue.net/ you'll get 17% off your total order).
This is such a great channel, love the narration as much as the clips themselves - one of those rare cases in which a UA-camr adds something from themselves that actually isn't redundant... appreciate your work ethic and view on things, keep it up man!
Bravo; a seemingly-rare instance of patience and reasonability arresting and neutralizing fear and the intoxicant of enabled power to reach a sane, mutual understanding…
I'm a young(isn, lol....eh, I'm getting old) woman living in a very large city, and I've taken a lot of Ubers (not even just in the country where I live, but other places too - and yes, all over the United States). I have NEVER spoken to a cab driver like that. Ever. In fact, I always make an effort to be nice and friendly. It's not that hard. I manage to do it even though I actually was assaulted by someone years ago (not an Uber driver though), and even with the trauma from that experience, I've still never found it unnecessary to be rudely suspicious of my Uber driver. If you're that worried about being kidnapped or assaulted, just make sure that the guy matches his picture, and that his car is the same make as the one your driver is supposed to have. The Uber app gives you a description of your driver's car, their name, and their photo. A potential attacker isn't going to match all these details. That being said, I don't think the woman was a bad person - she was just following trends, and I think she realised what she did wrong what you pointed it out to her. We all make mistakes. What matters is how we react when we realise that we're in the wrong, and she reacted fairly and maturely.
Oh please, she's hardly a karen. She did what she thought was right even if she wasn't being super cordial at first, and she also was very good about seeing it from another perspective. Come on.
Agree, I think the friend was being rude and a "Karen" but they also seem to be drinking by how the friend was slurring her words. I don't think they should be talked to that way by a driver for a company that specifically gives people rides. And as she says in the car, customers are told to ask the driver if they know their name. Both the driver and passenger were initially rude to each other, in my opinion, but the driver should've been a little more courteous no matter what. He is providing a service to paying customers. Asking if he knows her name isn't that rude and if I was spoken to by an Uber driver that way, I would've cancelled and asked for another driver or go with another company.
She was receptive and empathetic when you explained your situation to her. She was a nice lady. Most people don’t even want to listen to alternate points of view
On the app, on the phone IN YOUR HAND, look at the driver’s license plate, name and photo BEFORE you get in the car, people. When you see that the license and person match, you can get in and say, "Hi (driver’s name), I’m (your name)". The vehicle make, colour, license plate, driver’s name, photo and phone number appear on the UK Uber app, so it MUST on the US one. Why do stupid people make even the simplest interactions a problem?
Welllll being aware that you have a hard time imagining what it's like to be in someone else's shoes is a huge step most people don't take - never underestimate the difference!
You’re all warriors for doing this line of work. Dealing with no many assholes. Your Uber driver’s not your personal chauffeur, treat them and their property with respect.
another thing that could be a factor. its a tough world out there, especially for older people like my parents. people are wired to run a certain way, to get through life. they seemed pretty stressed out about that ride, weather it was a friend, or a teenaged grand daughter who told them how to treat uber drivers because of a recent murder, or a tiktok, or whatever. im not really sure how to explain my thoughts on this. but I blame society once again.
@@alexiskitchens yea it makes no sense how people end up in situations where they get into the wrong car.You have 3 different identifying factors to verify if it’s the correct car.Not to mention a GPS showing you exactly where the car is.z
For me, I always thought it was weird that when I got into Uber's they would just say: "Are you Patrick?", and I'd just say "yep", an they were cool with that. Me saying yep proves... absolutely nothing. They've got the whole pin system now which makes sense, but it was crazy how little verification there's been historically. I never really felt unsafe getting into an Uber because like you said, I just have to check the license plate and then I know that you're the right person.
the people getting defensive about the "say my name" thing are entitled sociopaths that dont even see you as a person because they lack basic empathy. Im on karens side honestly. You're employed to be the driver, her asking your name is verifying that they aren't getting into someone elses car pretending to be their driver.... I think "Whats your name?" is perfectly rational.

If I recall the uber app also shows a picture of a driver, and also shares what kind of car they'll be driving, also you can track where the uber you're waiting for is. Which is how I once knew my uber guy was at a nearby McDonald's lol, and how I learned how an Uber Driver lives on the street behind mine.
Exactly! It’s up to the rider to get in the correct vehicle because they literally give them everything they need to know about the driver.
@@alexiskitchens i like your name
fr, for drivers basically all they get is a name and location. the name is the only way to confirm the passenger, whereas theres a bunch of ways that the passenger can confirm the driver

Why can't people be nice, especially to people that are providing a service to them?!
Dude you handled this so perfectly. They have our picture, our name, plate, car make, model, and color.
All we have to identify a passenger is 1 first name.

Uber drivers have also been killed by their passengers too. I remember having a 50 year old man play the say my name game with me and I encouraged him to check the license plate. I was picking him up from the waste management open with 200,000 people so I definitely had to confirm he’s my rider
I wonder what's more likely, a male uber-driver getting killed by a 55 year old lady, or getting killed as a 55 year old lady by an uber driver impostor.
Was typing "why dont they just check license plate?" Then you said it before I could 😂

Thanks for posting this so I can report you heckling customers for asking you your name.
Come on.
No, you misunderstood. The other woman is the Karen
Do you not see how respectful the driver is?
@@samuelsprings7245 bro
Basically: You can't ask for respect when you're being disrespectful to someone.

Took her about 2 minutes to put her damn seatbelt on😂
Not everyone I don’t act like that and never will. Thank you for sharing
another thing that could be a factor. its a tough world out there, especially for older people like my parents. people are wired to run a certain way, to get through life. they seemed pretty stressed out about that ride, weather it was a friend, or a teenaged grand daughter who told them how to treat uber drivers because of a recent murder, or a tiktok, or whatever. im not really sure how to explain my thoughts on this. but I blame society once again.
I like that she was cool enough to have an actual conversation and be open to understanding your point of view
You handled that well man. So stupid they'd email riders to say "say my name." Sounds like some Heisenberg type stuff.
Don’t they show the picture, name, and car model of your driver ? Riders have so much more info to keep them safe.
@@alexiskitchens yea it makes no sense how people end up in situations where they get into the wrong car.You have 3 different identifying factors to verify if it’s the correct car.Not to mention a GPS showing you exactly where the car is.z
for real, wouldn't "what's my name" be a little bit more polite than that condescending demand?
For me, I always thought it was weird that when I got into Uber's they would just say: "Are you Patrick?", and I'd just say "yep", an they were cool with that. Me saying yep proves... absolutely nothing. They've got the whole pin system now which makes sense, but it was crazy how little verification there's been historically.
I never really felt unsafe getting into an Uber because like you said, I just have to check the license plate and then I know that you're the right person.
She seems like she was drinking, then they get a little rude. I think they were ok.
oh for sure! I thought this was a cool example of how people can resolve a little misunderstanding like adults, ya know?

While Uber does tell people to ask for names, it doesn't mean you should replce a simple greeting with an agressive "say my name". That's just rude.

Im on karens side honestly. You're employed to be the driver, her asking your name is verifying that they aren't getting into someone elses car pretending to be their driver.... I think "Whats your name?" is perfectly rational.
But like, did it not come off as rude to you? Wouldn't have it been nicer to give him even a moment to say her name like a normal person? Talking to someone like they are less than you / a potential killer is not excused just because it's their job.
Thanks for sharing... I learned something today... and, yes, kudos to the rider for being open- minded.
