    Ha! I was ready to say you were off base, but you redeemed yourself with the Woolly Bugger!

    If we’re talking about top, TOP, all-time patterns…I would actually replace the hopper with a muddler minnow (preferably a smaller one, size 10-16). There is no better water-covering, “looking for fish” streamer on the planet, imo. You can float it like a terrestrial (imitating moths, caddis, hoppers, crickets, everything)…you can dart it just under the water like an escaping baitfish…you can weight it and imitate a sculpin. It represents so many different trout forages, I would go so far as to tie it with the black/grizzly/whatever woolly bugger for “best streamer on planet earth”. I’ve caught more trout on a small muddler minnow than probably any other fly, including the parachute adams (the greatest dry fly pattern on earth, imo). If all you had was a box of muddlers, buggers, hare’s ears and parachute adams, you could catch fish anywhere in the country, no questions asked.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! Check out some of my other beginner videos and congrats on getting out there with a fly rod! It's a steep learning curve, but all it takes is time.

    Nice, first time seeing you, enjoyed every moment, especially your slightly warped humor (takes one to know one!). Your fly choices are on the money and honest, soooooo tired of all the "fly snobs" ...
    if it looks like a bug? Good chance it will get hit!

    Not enough peacock. Zug bug, Prince Nymph, Diawl-Back

      I do love a peacock and prince nymph, but a lot of times I'm the only one tying them on.

    Pheasant tail nymph? Surely that has to be on the list if not nearest the top? I suppose the hares ear one is similar? - just found your channel so will be subscribing :-) BTW - I see someone else mentioned checking out @DavieMcPhail - did you check him out - one of the best fly tiers ever 👌👌🎣🎣

    • @RoadandReel
      @RoadandReel  Рік тому +1

      Pheasant tail nymph is tried and true and could have easily made the list, but I've had Hare's Ears outperform them more than once. I did check out his channel and he is extremely knowledgeable and easy to follow. My goal this year is to tie the majority of my flies including bass, carp and saltwater. We'll see, lol and I'll have to do some sort of vintage flies that still kill it on the water. Thanks for the comment and for subscribing!

    I saw your Flybrary hook pads and thought it would be nice to set one up on our local trout stream (the Hokendauqua Creek, in Northampton, PA). How can I obtain one of those pads?

    • @RoadandReel
      @RoadandReel  Рік тому

      I bought some from trailertrash.com. It's a part of the flybrary project. Last time I checked, their ordering site was down, but you can try to contact them. If you can't find one, email me your address. I should have an extra one here somewhere. roadnreel@gmail.com

    Midges? Where are the midges? I don't go anywhere in Colorado without midges size 18-24, midges save the day all the time here.

    • @RoadandReel
      @RoadandReel  Рік тому

      Well, technically there was a Zebra Midge in there 😆. Midges do save the day. I also throw a lot of gnats and mosquitoes, but I had to draw the line somewhere. I appreciate the comment!
