Hey thanks for this video, I've been waiting to find such for a long time. It looks like a very useful and worthwhile modification !

Great. Just got my HF mill. Look forward to the x and y axis mods as well as DRO mounting.
    Thanks!

I will be getting back to finishing it up soon. Other side projects came up. Really need to get dros mounted. Makes work much faster. X and y mods are worth the time. That extra inch or two of travel saves the day sometimes.

Thanks, I was looking for the dimensions so I can figure out a plan of action before I actually take the head off my mill.
I think I'm going to do a four inch block with thick six inch plates welded on top and bottom; probably with some vertical gussets also from thick plate.
I don't much fancy anything bigger/heavier on my lathe not to mention the cost.

Bolt pattern is 4.58" or 2.29" from center.

Riser block height is 6". You can do whatever height you want. Up and down travel on the knee is listed as 7" from the factory but it is really closer to 12" of up and down.

I went with 6" riser height. I have a couple tall projects to do. 4-5" riser length might be better for most folks. After I do my projects I can chuck it into my lathe and make it shorter if i need to.

I did do the mod to increase x travel side to side. Just using a 4 1/2" angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. Quicker and faster than milling it. Will show that in next vid. Working on method to increase y travel. Making a jig to drill it out. Next vid should be out in a week. Maybe less. Might even have my dro and power feed mounted. If nothing else comes up.

I did this to my Chester 626 which looks the same mill, mine is 170mm tall, but I will lower it to 6 inch in the future, what I had to do was make a new screw for the knee, as it would disengage at the top.

It's better to make a riser a little taller than you need. Easy to shorten one. If you make one shorter than what you need kinda hard to make it longer. lol I might actually shorten mine one inch if I need to.

Doubleboost has good vids on these. I did the x axis mod to increase travel. Need to finish mod to increase y axis travel. Still have to mount my dros. Have to finish working on a truck. Once thats done. Will get back to finishing mill. Hope to have vid of my x and y axis mods in a couple months. Got a power feed for x axis. Need to mount that. I have idea to adjust nod for y axis to be able to trammel that. But that is not critical for my work so it will be last thing I try to do.

Do you have a finished video of your riser block?
