It's true. Looks like a million-dollar-production, it really does. The shots stay new and interesting throughout the video, and the whole thing is rockin perfectly in sync with itself. It's awesome.
This proves again that creativity and determination are more important than million dollar budgets. (not that this was cheap to do, obviously) I love the song and the clip is amazing!
I've been an ok go fan for several years but just found these videos. I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately linked them in my mind for their amazing attention to detail and drive to create visual imagery. They are so creative. I love smart talented people.
After watching Fear and Delight multiple times I decided I'd try searching for the making of in hopes someone maybe did a short documentary or something. Imagine my delight when the official channel itself already had it covered.
This could be achieved with any set of identical cameras. They all roll video at the same time. The footage then goes to an editing software which keys out the green, which nowadays is like a press of a button or two. What remains is multiple video tracks of the guy dancing with a transparent background. These tracks can be overlayed over each other, changing the layering order to match the positions in the room (back vs front), and that's most of it. Reveal a track to add a copy, hide it to remove a copy.
@@lforlight what editing software should i use when it comes to this kinds of editing? All i know was shitposting but now i am curious as to how they do those amazing editing.
@@coconutoil1614 Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effect are great for editing videos like this c: You can also search for cheaper options, all you need is a software intended to edit videos, for this effect you need mostly software that can key out green. So great to see this idea realised, especially after having had several discussions with colleagues about whether or not something like this could ever work. Clearly it does, and kudos to you :)
I’m absolutely obsessed with cinema and the process of filmmaking. It’s a delight seeing the ins and outs of this masterful music video. I’m incredibly disappointed I’m only just discovering your work.
I've been finding so many amazing musicians, performers, and entertainers lately All so freaking talented The use of dancing with the visual effects really make everything seem so smooth and impressive
This is an amazing music video and an unbelievably cool filming process. I'm however sad to see a lack of explanation as to how you combined the cameras into one shot.
I can't believe I thought there was none else in the room but the dancer and the actress, but finding out that there was ONE more person in there, that's amaizing
Great stuff! I had an idea how it was done, but it's great to see the amazing effort that went into creating the mechanism that created the wonderful video. Thanks for sharing.
I was just telling my coworker I would love a 90s style pop-up-video or something about how this was made. Brilliant job on the video and it goes perfectly with the song.
I really appreciate the behind the scenes on this. It should honestly be illegal to make a music video this interesting and creative and *not* also release a behind the scenes
Didn't know this existed, spent way too long Captain Disillusioning the music video myself, very tired at half 2 in the morning, and I'm vert happy to say I was spot on!
First I heard the catchy song, then I saw the video and after that question emerged "How did they do that"? And now I found the answer :) Good work, guys!
I honestly don't know which is cooler, the video or the making of. I figured you used some sort of weird cgi image filter technique but this manual approach is just amazing. Now I want to see the kaleidoscope video you mentioned.
Awesome! I was really wondering how you guys made such effect! Really cool! Just unfortunate I couldn't hear half of what y'all said due to the audio :/
Only came across the music video yesterday and was very curious about how it was filmed. Turns out that I was close in my train of thought as I was imagining a setup similar to how certain scenes were filmed in the Matrix using multiple cameras to get the slow motion pan around effect.
ive seen fancy camera trickery where you have a ring of cameras and a person in the middle but id never before thought to have a ring of cameras and a person circling them, thats the only trick in the whole music video that i saw through tho
This is more or less how I figured that you guys did it. I was 95% sure you used one camera per singer/dancer and 5% that it was some sort of woodoo magic and 3D. However I also always thought about: But if it's edited, then how did they get all those ankles? It must be cameras.
Imagine how difficult it would be to get 10 people to do the exact same moves and the exact same time in a circular room with the exact distance between each other
I do a youtube series called "Thing of the Day" and I'd like to feature this video for one of the videos. Can I use footage from this video in it to help motivate my audience to check out the whole thing?
you’re trying to tell me that it WASNT 10 identical, perfectly in-sync silly men dancing in one room?
It's true. Looks like a million-dollar-production, it really does. The shots stay new and interesting throughout the video, and the whole thing is rockin perfectly in sync with itself. It's awesome.
ikr
This way of filming is so surreal and genius. I was shocked that CGI wasn't used! So creative...

took me a moment to realise how this worked even after watching the bts....wow that is brilliant

I want to know more detail about the cameras and the editing behind the video!

Ever since I watched the music video I have been baffled on how it was made, now I know, and it’s still bloody impressive
Visually one of the best music videos I've ever seen. Love it.
Fascinating technique, terrible interview sound.
It doesn't hurt my ears...at least.
Why....
it’s just an echo and some background static
