It’s amazing how huge Tom Anderson is with these California makers. Tyler and Suhr both owe so much to Tom.

I have a Tyler bass that has pickups that Jim and Tom wound together. It’s unreal.

I loved when you gave me the tour Rich. It was very illuminating how much is involved with making a Tyler. That is why they are the best guitars in the world.

Hamer also used a single specific press for Serial Numbers for all their guitars post 1988 - the press is still in use as it happens by a Hamer associated custom maker!

Really enjoyed this. I'd love to spend some time playing a Tyler, I'm pretty intrigued by them. They're very expensive compared to Anderson and Suhr, I'd like to find out why 🙂

James Tyler did a strat type back in the 90s called the RAT! It looked like it'd been run over by a tractor, wish they made more of them, id by one

Need to do a video on neck construction I’ve heard the roll there fretboards a lot but can’t tell unless you have it in your hands how much work goes into completing the neck

I tried staring at those guitars headstock for the longest time but still I can’t accept it. 😝. How are those guitars costing that much?

  • @GraniteSoundtrack

So does Tyler guitars argue that thin nitrocellulose finishes are not the only thing that sounds good? I’m just curious because you hear so much about that being a reason to buy expensive Fender/Gibson Custom Shop guitars. But here is a totally custom maker with an epic legacy that clearly doesn’t do that and still has great sounding guitars. It’d be fascinating to hear what they think on all those points.

I don't understand why James tyler guitar was light and pickup signal is week for single coil.😅

  • @AndorMatus

All details influences the sond of instrument. Wood, glue, paint, wood filler, truss rod, fret material, pickups, wires, caps, pots, nut material, tunning machines, neck angle, headstock angle……. Some of these things doing more, some less with final sound. James Tyler dont liked stainless frets because His guitar vision was perfect with nickel/silver fretmaterial. John Suhr is opposite, He prefer stainless frets on serial Suhr guitars. Its question of personal preferences.

He just said jim refused having stainless steal frets because of tone..then someone refretted there guitar with stainless so then he desides it doesnt matter much?...lol..thats because it never mattered much...and how about not putting so much paint on the guitars so they dont wiegh as much..silly guitar companies..sell what the customers want

Let's be honest here, the world of guitar is full of snake oil and pseudo-science.
From power tubes to nitrocellulose lacquer to arguments over fretwire, all completely ignorant that the guitar amp is still based on pre 50's technology and is so full of noise, distortion (excessive noise in the signal results in distortion) and so far from neutral that it would smother the guitars natural "tone" if it ever existed.
