My Grand Seiko is such a charming, simple, elegant watch. I love the shape of the hands. I love the polishing and the flawlessness of the indicies. I love the depth of the dial. Yes, they have too many. If they'd just simplify the catalog and put watches in front of people, they will go far
@@canadianwatchmonkey3992 I got the call today at 6am. Helm says I won a 50 number draw on a titanium Vanuatu. I'm feel giddy, I just put my money down a couple hours ago. It's no Scametti but I think it's a nice watch.
Please do quartz vs mechanical episode! I work as a firefighter/paramedic. During the past years I've come to the conclusion that quartz just makes to most sense for the job. Besides accuracy I also need shock resistance, water resistance and some sort of a timer. The watch should also be easy to operate with gloves on, and easy to read in the dark. G-Shocks are the obvious choice for the job! However, I really like the idea of being able to service and repair the watch - to have something long-lasting. I wish to have a watch that is eventually a memento of the years spent in the fire rescue service, and maybe even to pass on to somebody. I'm currently wearing mostly my Seiko Tuna, G-Shock Mudmaster or Mudman. I've currently been flirting with the idea of buying something more premium, a high accuracy quartz, such as a Grand Seiko with an F9 movement. I've been also browsing different mechanical divers, mostly Breitling and Tudor, but eventually always get doubtful about the compatibility with my job. Is the watch accurate enough? Is the watch shock resistant enough? I've also been thinking about just saying "f*** the specs!" and getting a cool diver, without overthinking the compatibility with my job. There is something romantic about rocking a Breitling diver as a proper tool watch, and just wearing it no matter what. The wrist watch is eventually only a backup, and there are no actual rules on what to wear. Most guys wear Garmin and G-shocks, but it could be whatever that aesthetically blends with the uniform. This message has become already way too long and sinuous, and I'm glad if somebody had the patience to read this far. The topic of quartz vs mechanical is super interesting to me! It's obvious where they differ from another, but what I find interesting is where they meet. Are there quartz watches that have the same service and repairability as mechanical watches? Are there mechanical watches that have the same accuracy ja shock resistance specs as quartz watches? Ps. Thank you for the show guys, great stuff!
"Every new watch has to promise me a new life" - That's the best statement on this channel so far! I can absolutely relate to that, thanks Andrew! 🥇🏆 It's all about re-creating your own image by means of an accessorie which is for one reason or the other meaningful to you...
What a nice surprise to see you again, guys! And this episode throws me right back to the one about milestone watches that I happen to have just listened to, literally a day ago, ha! I was just asking myself what happened to the grand finale of that episode, where you all agreed how much more important it was to talk about our memories and experiences with the watches than calibers, materials, and in general what's the newest new. Glad to see you're right back at it here!
Can't wait to watch the new episode this evening. Hello to everyone. Congratulations on reaching Season 4. Great episode. The Q&A was really enjoyable. Thank you.
my heart literally skipped a beat! it is AWESOME to have you guys back! my answers to the questions (and they are somewhat personal as well): 1. You are a freaking champion. Great answers from your end here and great that the show hits the right spot for you. Super glad to see you here in the comments. !
As someone who doesn't have many fellow watch nerds in their life, AET is like sitting down with some old pals to talk bollocks about this weird and wonderful shared passion. Congrats on Season 4 chaps, appreciate what you're building, keep up the effing good work 🙏
Having my question answered was the highlight of my week! I recently bought a Grand Seiko and have been impressed by the quality of the watch and the customer experience. It has kept my Omega and Tudor off the wrist for a while.
I respect your opinions but I don’t agree that Grand Seiko has no “boring” simple designs. Take a look at the SBGN027. A monochromatic beautiful yet simple design.
Andrew you should try moving your NATO strap Buckle so it sits on the bottom of the rest it just looks a lot cleaner and you've got such really cool straps it just in my opinion makes it look even cooler
I know exactly what your talking about. A wile back I got offered a White dial Rolex dayjust fromthe boutique. I tried it on, felt nothing. Went over to Omega and tried on the Bond 60th. Anniversary and I fell in love. Waited 8 months for it but I’m very happy with my decision.
Interesting questions. And the new feature about getting wound up is great - 100% with Andrew that placing a watch on food is an outrage. Maybe next to the plate or just on the wrist held over it. Jealous of George’s chrono. 👍
Great episode! Congratulations on the new season. George, love your Zenith. Can you please let me know the reference number or more information on this timepiece. It’s absolutely stunning!
That Zenith Chronograph from George looks so cool. Although it seems vaguely pumpkin spice-ish, which is super basic. Which means that this watch should belong to Captain Boring! ( I keed! I keed! 😂)
Thanks for answering my question guys. I also have a ceiling on price. There is also the emotional side of the purchase. Love what Andrew said about “unlocking a new chapter”. I feel like I need a new chapter. Cheers guys ❤
Cool episode, exited for this new season, as for the question, yes, like 5 times but if the design alone is good enough I'll keep it but i won't wear it, especially if it's a hassle to resell
The comment about a watch speaking to you when you put it on your wrist, is a great point. I tried a Cartier santos on and was determined that it was going to be my upgrade from my Tag Carrera 5 and it just didn’t make me feel as special as my tag 🤷🏻♂️. Left me very confused at the time but it was a valuable lesson I learnt and has probably saved me a fair bit 💵
Great episode. So much to process. Interesting point of discussion at the end. I would say I am very much like Adrian in that I an content with my collection and downsizing. Because I'm not hinting for my next purchase or new thing I am more inclined to look at watches I wouldn't normally take any notice of and appreciate them (or not) for what they are rather than evaluating them for whether I want to own it or not. Looking forward to more episodes.
Thanks for answering my question fellas. To answer my own question, mine would be my Bamford customised Monaco - didn't think I'd have the opportunity to add one to the collection as soon as I did 🤘
Cheers guys🍺 George, the Bamford Milgauss in Blue was the 1st thing I saw on Pinterest. Hoping to one day get a Bamford Octo Finissimo for myself as well as a Serpenti for the missus. That's the dream 💪💪
Glad to see you guys are back at it! I have always lusted over the Rolex Pepsi Jubilee until I got it on my wrist and all the feelings I had prior just vanished. I wasn't sure what it was but it's not the watch for me anymore.
Have to disagree about Grand Seiko. Sure, they put out (too?) many models, but you can also appreciate that as a good thing to have plenty to choose from. The bracelets might not be their strongest point, but I really do not think they are as bad as some people make them to be. I think the bracelets looks just fine, and if you can find the perfect sizing, they also wear very nice. The nature-ispired dial theme's also seems to be almost a joke for many, but I just can not find anything wrong with taking the inspiration from nature, or whatever it may be, as long as the results are on a Grand Seiko level. I happen to love and appreciate most of the Swiss brands that operate on a same price range as GS, but still, my humple opinnion is that there's just really not a competition there, GS dials and the details are just so much nicer and well finished. Ofcourse one can like, say Rolex Explorer's black dial over, for example that ''snowflake'' dial, mentioned on the video, but if you compare those two, and the work and the craftmanship and the attention to detail, I don't think anyone in their right mind would think that Rolex takes the crown there (pun intented). And do I even have to mention the mirror polishing (Zaratsu ;) on the cases and hands, and the actual human touch that goes on to making a Grand Seiko watch.... With some minor problems, I still think GS kicks just about every other brands behind in that price segment.
About complaining about in-house movements: Once bitten, twice shy. If a third-party movement has failed me, I'm never going to buy another watch with that movement, regardless of how the watch makes me feel and regardless of the movement's popularity. But the greater reason for avoiding third-party movements these days is that they all have short power reserves and that sucks for anyone who wants to swap out watches and expects them to work. I'm not asking mechanical to compete with quartz, necessarily, but I do expect a baseline of competent behaviour... They have to earn the loyalty.
Coolest digital watch for me is the Hamilton PSR so retro cool in every way possible and the bracelet with its’ extreme taper is the best I have worn and seen. 😊
Love your show. Interesting I agree with George - Quartz is amazing. I might add, especially if this crystal oscillatory is under a Grand Seiko dial :)
4th Season, already?! Amazing how far you guys have carried on with such a great show and platform to entertain the watch enthused. Very happy you all are back. Some interesting topics you touched on in this episode. Hits a number of thoughts I've been having around my own watch collection journey at this moment. Collection reduction to focus on the watches that I have and really enjoy the most and I truly want to own. Versus the other watches I have or have thoughts about getting that may be more like watches that would be nice to have, but aren't a must... basically stuff that are best to admire but pass on buying if not sell if I already own such. Brands mentioned I've been more interested in as of late are Zenith, TAG Heuer and Grand Seiko... so, maybe at least one of these next in, hopefully, the not too distant future.
I agree this is the question I think we could all afford to ask when considering our owns collections. To finish up with a strong collection that each piece brings a level of joy to us worth holding on to witless eventually reveal the ultimate personal collection for you.
The Omega FOiS was also a great reissue - without fauxtina and gradients. George, didn’t know there was a Shinola x Bamford clock, nice. I generally like these giant versions of watches you have there. I think the Bell & Ross needs new batteries
Adrian with a Rolex on a NATO!? 😊 That's nothing new, but that combo is total 🔥🔥🔥! I might try that with my Tudor S&G GMT! It currently has the stock leather strap and I never have gelled with it! Excuse me as I head to the watch box . . . . .😊
We were recently in Glasgow. I had hoped to run in to Adrian while looking at watches downtown (I ran into Sam Chui, the plane vlogger, in London). But no. Good to see a new episode.
To answer your question on why I love watches is that it is a mechanical marvel. Name another tiny machine that has so many precision parts working harmoniously together in away that is able to stay extremely accurate for years and look so stunning while doing it?
In answer to what watch disappointed. I was desperate fora Glasshutte Original Panoreserve, but when I held it, just didn’t make want to run out of the shop😳 Think probably I had thought the dial was white, but the silver it is just didn’t do it for me.
Cheers, mates! Watching the episode now. With respect to AEPoe, here are my quaintest thoughts as they come to life and fade away… I want an AET wall clock, not watch, with date at 3 o’clock and the AET logo at 9 o’clock (sorry, Andrew). I’d never thought I’d own a G-Shock, but they’re wicked fun. I like watches because they’re engineering artistry. Andrew Morgan and Tim Mosso could visually and emotionally describe watches in a podcast without images. Non-negotiable: I must smile every time I look at the watch - I kicked the Kermit out of my watch box when I became frustrated with it (bad service experiences, bad association). Are we now drinking when George says “GP”? Healthcare watch: the St. Gallens Rescue watch can be tossed into an autoclave. Never stop BYOI - Ianos looks wicked cool!! Welcome back guys!!!
Also seriously glad you guys are back I mean for real as much as I like Nico Teddy and Roman you guys were a big part of my week. I really hope you can keep up at least once a week? At a minimum once every two weeks. I'm aware it's hard to clear three people schedule and get together. That said even a Skype call with the three of you doing the same thing that you normally do without it being a live comment thing would really be great it's it's the three of you and the way you guys interact together you don't need to take live comments honestly that just dilutes it. Again glad you're back really looking forward to more. Taking questions as kind of cool as long as it's not live the life component really takes away from what'd you guys do. Again glad to have you back cheers mates
Phenomenal Season 4 opener! I have a few wind ups that involve people "humbly flexing". Like when they post "my little humble/modest collection" and it's all rolex, AP, and other wicked expensive watches and watches that are hard to get....and I just think there's nothing humble about your TT Wimbledon next to your white gold blue dial day date next to your Kermit next to your pepsi next to your royal oak. I also hate steering wheel pix. #VentSesh
Great to see you guys back! Maybe a little more visibility about the premium content, I think a lot more people would be into it in order to further support this lovely show.
I think it's a phenomenon that we see popular watches as boring because we know the looks that well from seeing them a lot. They are not the craziest watches as they are reaching a huge range of people but still, a Sub as well as a Speedy don't have borring, plain designs if you imagine the watch world before and after them coming around.
Advice to someone who is new to this hobby: Unless you are super loaded, don’t buy a large watch box right from the get go. Trust me, you will thank me down the road:)😊
My Grand Seiko is such a charming, simple, elegant watch. I love the shape of the hands. I love the polishing and the flawlessness of the indicies. I love the depth of the dial. Yes, they have too many. If they'd just simplify the catalog and put watches in front of people, they will go far

👏 I’m an IT guy w a Mech Eng degree and this is how I feel. Esp when you get to the super thin pieces.
Get in line fellas. No pushing. 😂
Love the wind up segment!
In answer to what watch disappointed. I was desperate fora Glasshutte Original Panoreserve, but when I held it, just didn’t make want to run out of the shop😳
Think probably I had thought the dial was white, but the silver it is just didn’t do it for me.
Great video guys.
Welcome back 🫡

Goals
The paid pod is exactly that Skype idea, join us 😉

Phenomenal Season 4 opener! I have a few wind ups that involve people "humbly flexing". Like when they post "my little humble/modest collection" and it's all rolex, AP, and other wicked expensive watches and watches that are hard to get....and I just think there's nothing humble about your TT Wimbledon next to your white gold blue dial day date next to your Kermit next to your pepsi next to your royal oak.
I also hate steering wheel pix.

Ohhhh man I hear ya.
Great to see you guys back!
Maybe a little more visibility about the premium content, I think a lot more people would be into it in order to further support this lovely show.
Good to see you three back - the watch community is poorer without you in it!!!
Ohhh thanks
No poorer with them in it because they keep selling us on cool watches
How do I buy the watch travel case “tick tick mother..” and the captain boring shirt?
Here: abouteffingtime.net They may not be uploaded yet - stand by!
True true.
That is a badass gift to give your boys!!
I don't normally wear one watch for more than a week. I like switching it up every 4-5 days.
Advice to someone who is new to this hobby:
Unless you are super loaded, don’t buy a large watch box right from the get go.
Trust me, you will thank me down the road:)😊
Hey, I've got six cheap watches and no box, I think a 10-watch box will be fine for me. :D
Can you guys talk about Yema on BYOI, interested in your thoughts
Ianos seems interesting… but they seem to be 43mm with 51mm and above lug to lug which would limit it to some wrist sizes.
